Soma was really bored. It was currently in between terms during his 3rd year at Totsuki, so most of the students were at home for the break. This meant that Soma wouldn't have five Shokugeki a day to occupy his time, so he had to think of something else to do to occupy his time. Luckily for him, the blonde headmistress of Totsuki was still around.
Erina was pretty bored as well actually. She didn't have as many meetings during the school breaks and she also didn't have very many taste testings either. A few times she made up her mind to seek out the redhead and hang out, but her pride always stopped her. She didn't want him getting any strange ideas that she liked him or anything. But a week was too much for her, and she decided that she would find him before she went home for the day. However, Soma beat her to it as just as she began thinking about him he showed up at her office door.
"Yo, Erina. How's it been lately?" Soma said nonchalantly, making his way over to her.
"Hello Soma. I'm doing well. I haven't seen you for a while. I assume that means you've been taking care of your elite 10 work, right?"
"Um, yeah. About that…"
"Let me guess, you didn't do it. Do you always have to be so difficult?! Who do you think has to pick up the slack for you?!"
"Woah woah, actually I did do some stuff."
Soma pulled out a folder and slid it over to her, with a bunch of his paperwork actually filled out for once.
"I've got about half the stuff done so far, I'll get the other half to you when I finish it." He said sheepishly.
"This was supposed to be done before the term ended, but I guess it's fine since it was early enough to where I didn't have to do it for you. For once." Erina said
"Well how about I make it up to you."
"And how will you do that?" Erina asked curiously
"I was thinking that it would be really fun to go on a camping trip and just relax in the woods for the day."
"You want to take me camping?"
"Um, yeah. Was there something weird about that?" Soma asked confused
"You want to take me, Erina Nakiri, camping? From what I've heard camping is the far opposite of luxury. You should know something like that wouldn't suit my tastes, Soma."
"Fine, it doesn't really matter. Maybe I'll ask Megumi to come with me then since I'm sure she would like it."
Soma turned around and headed for the door and Erina's jealousy got the better of her. The thought of Soma spending all that alone time with another girl really irked her more than she would like to admit. She ran towards him and grabbed his arm and stopped him.
"Wait, Soma. I'll go. Sorry for sounding kind of mean when you went out of your way to invite me and all."
Soma turned around and smiled, and ruffled her hair, something he had been doing more and more recently.
"I knew you'd come around eventually. Make sure you pack appropriately, I'll pick you up at your place at noon tomorrow!"
And with that Soma headed out the door and left the blushing princess to herself for the night. Noon couldn't come fast enough for Erina, and she spent much of the night packing what she thought she might need. She had never been camping before, so she looked at several articles on things people would do while camping, and packed accordingly. Embarrassed, she packed her bikini as the last item. If they went swimming, it would be one of the few times Soma had seen her in her swimsuit, and she was worried what he would think. His opinion meant a lot more to her now than in the past now that she liked him. With a smile on her face, she dozed off quickly awaiting the next day.
At exactly noon, Soma had pulled up to the front of the Nakiri mansion, and saw Erina waiting for him at the front door. She threw her stuff in the back of Soma's car and hopped into the passengers seat.
"You never told me you had a drivers license, Soma."
"Yeah, I picked one up a few months ago. My pops had been telling me getting one would be useful. He even went out of his way and bought me this car. Don't you have a license?"
"O-of course not! The Nakiri family always has drivers on call that I can ask for."
"But hasn't there been a time where you don't want to have to wait for them, or maybe they're not available? Like that almost happened in our 1st year." Soma chuckled
"Well, that's what you're for now! If I'm ever in a pinch I'll just call you."
"I see you haven't changed. Always relying on me, Erina." Soma teased her
"I just allow you to show me what you're capable of, is all." Erina responded
After an hour of driving in a direction Erina had never been before, the two of them arrived at the campsite which seemed like it was a pretty old one, but nice. Soma immediately drove to a spot in the back corner of the place, so Erina assumed he was familiar with the place and had been there several times.
After they parked, they set up the tent in the flattest spot in the lot, making sure to do it before it got dark. They unloaded all of the stuff in the car which they would be using for their day together.
"Soma, I can't help but see you didn't really pack much in the way of food. I trust that you didn't just forget and I'm going to go hungry tonight, right?!"
"Relax Erina, We're going to do a camping classic which is we are going to catch our own food!"
"I've… never done that before." Erina admitted
"We're chefs, so we constantly use ingredients in our dishes, but there is still a lot we don't know about where the food comes from. I thought it would be cool to try catching our own ingredients for once."
It was true, though Erina knew the basics about all ingredients such as where they came from, she didn't know much about how they were actually caught and the amount of work that it took. From what she gathered she knew Soma knew more than her about it but was probably far from an expert on the topic.
"So what exactly do you plan on catching?"
"I was thinking fish, since that sounds easiest. I borrowed some fishing gear from Ryo that he says works really nice at catching trout in this area. There's a river and lake just down the trail from here so I was thinking we could go there and then do some swimming!"
"That sounds fun. I'll go get changed. No peeking, Soma!"
"I wouldn't dare." he chuckled
Soma was already wearing his swim trunks, he took off his shirt and was just about good to go, after a few minutes, Erina emerged from the tent in her purple bikini, nervous.
"Well… how do I look? She asked
"Beautiful as usual." Soma answered honestly, maybe a bit too honestly in his opinion.
"Alright, let's get going!" he continued.
He grabbed Erina by the hand and began to lead her down the trail to the fishing spot, with his fishing gear in his other hand and backpack. After a short walk on the trail, they reached a clearing which was an obvious fishing spot.
"This spot looks good!" Soma said excitedly
"I take it you've been fishing before?"
"A few times. Never really got much though."
"So I am going hungry tonight!"
"Well, if I catch only one tonight, that ones yours." he said while smiling at her
"And if you catch zero?"
"Then I guess I would have an angry princess on my hands." he chuckled
Erina couldn't help but smile at Soma's antics. No matter the situation, he always had an answer and proceeded with confidence, never second guessing himself. After 30 minutes of no luck Erina seriously thought she would go hungry but then all of the sudden Soma pulled out one, two and then three fish out of the water very quickly. She sighed a bit of relief knowing that Soma had taken care of her, like he usually did. Erina even tried fishing a little bit, but had no luck and had to have Soma untangle her from the line which he couldn't stop laughing about. Soma had the three fish in a bucket of water wanting to keep them as fresh as possible.
When Erina wasn't looking, Soma swept her up off her feet and jumped into the lake with her.
"Hey! At least tell me when you're going to do something like that!"
"What, its more fun when you're not expecting it." he admitted
"Well let's see how you like it."
Erina ran over to Soma, and tackled him, dunking him in the water completely. He stood up with dripping hair, not having expected that at all.
"Well how was it?" Erina asked smugly
"Really fun, actually." and Soma and Erina proceeded to take turns trying to soak the other person as much as possible. At one point, Soma heard Erina's stomach growl and that was when he knew it was time for dinner.
"Is someone hungry?" he teased
"N-no! You're just hearing things, commoner."
Soma just chuckled at her and threw her over his shoulder with one arm, and getting the fish and gear with the other one.
"What do you think you're doing?!" she protested
"Going to be making us some delicious dinner. I thought I'd carry you back since you seemed out of breath."
"Fine, I'll allow you to." she stated with her heart racing
Once they got back to the campsite, Erina changed into warmer clothes while Soma dried off and put his shirt back on. Erina was impressed by how handy Soma was, being able to start the fire with just flint and sticks he had found lying around the place. He cooked them a grilled Trout dish, one he had made for her before, but it had a bit of a different flavor with the smoke from the campfire.
"It's really good, Soma." Erina said genuinely
"You mean delicious, right?" Soma joked
"You still have a long way to go before that." she joked back
After they ate dinner, it was dark outside, and Soma got out a blanket and put it on the ground. He motioned for Erina to come over and join him, and the two laid down on the blanket and watched the stars together. After enjoying each other's company for a few minutes, Soma broke the silence.
"You know, they say you always tell a secret you've never told anyone under a starry sky."
"Really? I've never heard that one before. You first."
"My secret is that I've wanted to hang out like this with you for a while. Just the two of us." Soma admitted.
"How about you?"
Erina was debating whether or not to give some made up secret, or a real one she had indeed never told anyone. After waiting for a few minutes, she spoke up, deciding it was time for Soma to know the truth.
"Having the gods tongue, I thought that I had tasted every taste there was in the world. But I was wrong. Recently, I've experienced a new taste for the first time. And that is the taste of love. When I was younger, I was alone, and had no need for anything like that. I thought everyone was on a plane lower than me, and that I was meant to stand at the top. Then one day I met a certain boy. This boy changed my world, he showed me that other people had value, he showed me that you can achieve anything by working hard. He was the first person who had ever challenged me, and was the first person from the outside who truly cared about me. At first I thought he was nothing more than a lucky punk, but after seeing him put everything on the line to save me not once, but twice, I knew I loved this man. But then I started to feel like I had been taking advantage of him, thinking that he would always come to my rescue since he always did, and I began to regret how I treated him. There was a time I was really mean to him, but I hope he can accept me now regardless of that."
Erina turned towards Soma and grabbed his hand, and locked eyes with him
"Yukihira Soma, the man I love is you, and I've had these feelings for a long time. Ever since after our first year actually. I know this may be one sided, that you may just be being nice to me like you are to everyone, but I thought I should at least let you know the truth."
Soma stood there stunned for a second, but then put his hand on the back of her head and pulled her in for a kiss. It was a long kiss, one that showed how much passion these two had for each other.
"Erina, I love you too. I was actually scared that you didn't have feelings for me, or else I would have told you sooner actually. You're the one person in my life who has constantly challenged me and I would like you by my side forever."
They kissed once more before separating. After a pause, all of the sudden Soma started chuckling which made Erina confused
"What's so funny?" she demanded
"That part where I said that you tell a secret you've never told anyone under a starry sky. I just made that up actually."
"You what?!"
"Haha, it worked like a charm though."
"Soma! How dare you deceive me!"
Erina rolled over on the blanket and got on top of Soma, not about to let him escape. Instead of hitting him as he expected, she leaned down and kissed him again, which he returned gladly.
"Though I didn't like that trick you pulled, I'll forgive you since I'm glad we were able to get our feelings out."
"See, it all worked out. I was going to confess to you on the camping trick either way but it was a breath of relief when you went first."
After watching the stars and chatting for several hours in between making out, Soma and Erina decided it was time for bed and went into the tent.
"You're not going to be mad if I start calling you my girlfriend now, will you?"
"Nope, I want you to actually. I'm going to tell everyone I know you're my boyfriend now when I see them." she replied
"That's what I like to hear."
After twenty minutes of trying to sleep, Erina said
"Soma, I'm cold."
"You have a sleeping bag right?"
"Sleeping bag? I'm just under a blanket right now, I thought that's what you were supposed to bring."
"I see I still have a lot to teach you about normal people things."
"You can do that as much as you like tomorrow and onwards, but for now please warm me up!"
"Come over here, Erina."
Erina went towards Soma's side of the tent and he wrapped her in his sleeping back, pulling her close with one arm around her waist. In a matter of minutes, he dozed off, and Erina couldn't have been happier about her situation. Snuggling with her lover in the middle of nowhere. She quickly dozed off as well, finally warm.
When she woke up, Ernia noticed Soma had both his arms wrapped around her waist, keeping her close.
"Oh, good morning Erina." Soma said when he noticed she was awake.
"Good morning Soma. I see you've gotten comfortable with our relationship already, clinging to me and all already."
"You're keeping me warm." he stated while snuggling closer to her. After a quick cuddle session Soma looked at Erina and asked.
"So what do you want to do today? We could either head back today or stay another day."
Erina threw her arms around Soma's neck and kissed him passionately on the lips and replied with
"I think I want to stay another day."
How'd you guys like it? I really liked the idea of a camping trip and just went with it. If anyone has an idea for a topic for a Sorina oneshot, please let me know. I'll try my best with them lol
