The calls to Hughes and Alphonse went well, though both were worried about Ed. They should arrive in around a half an hour. Roy opened the door to the outer office and stepped in, taking note of the way his subordinates worked much more quietly than usual, minding the sleeping Ed on the couch. Ed hadn't once stirred since Roy had laid him down, and he wasn't sure if he should be worried or not.
"Havoc," At the mention of his name, the blonde perked up from where he was working on paperwork.
"Yes, boss?"
"You have medical training, correct?" Havoc nodded.
"Would you please help me change Fullmetal's bandages?" Havoc nodded as he stood.
"Sure thing, boss."
They both kneeled beside Ed as Roy set down a first aid kit on the table beside them.
"He's on some pretty strong meds, so I doubt he'll be very lucid, but he needs to sit up." Roy gently took hold of Ed's automail shoulder, shaking gently, eliciting a groan of annoyance from the blonde. "Come on Ed, wake up. We need to change your bandsges. You have to sit up." Ed's eyes fluttered open, hazy, bloodshot eyes peered over at Roy and Havoc. Roy slowly eased Ed up off of the couch, Ed grimaced a bit, but otherwise didn't protest. He swayed in his spot where he sat, body aching to go back to sleep. His eyes were half-lidded as he studied the men in front of him. Roy grabbed the bottom of the sweatshirt pooling around Ed, and gently eased it over his head. Havoc raised a hand to his mouth in alarm as he laid his eyes on Ed's battered body.
"Oh, god." Roy just nodded solemnly. Ed's brow furrowed in annoyance.
"S'cold." Ed slurred. Havoc frowned with sympathy.
"I know, chief. I'm gonna have a look at you and then you can put your sweater back on, okay?" Ed nodded lazily. Roy helped him gingerly lay back down onto the couch. Havoc pointed to the large bandage covering the sore skin where Rogers seared his skin.
"That the burns?" He questioned. Roy nodded. Havoc gently lifted the edges of tape holding the gauze down, easing the bandage away from the wounds. He had to look away from Ed for a moment in disbelief. "Damn. How could someone do this to him? He's just a kid." Havoc frowned. Roy handed Havoc a gauze pad and a bottle of saline, which he accepted with a nod. He held the gauze to Ed's side, catching the saline he poured over the wounds. He then began to gently scrub away the dead skin. Ed whimpered and tried to sleepily bat the hand away. Havoc smiled sadly at him.
"I know it hurts, kiddo. We're almost done." Ed squeezed his eyes shut and bit his lip as Havoc continued to clean the burns. With gentle hands, he slathered the wounds with a thick layer of burn salve before covering them with bandages. At this point, the whole team had gathered around the couch, watching Ed with concerned faces. Fuery even held Ed's flesh hand in a loose grip, being careful of his broken fingers. Havoc moved to the long strip of gauze running down the center of Ed's chest. He peeled away the bandage, revealing the 22 stitches holding Ed's skin together. He turned a bit green, hissing in sympathy.
"Poor Ed," Fuery mumbled. "That must really hurt." The others hummed in agreement. Havoc repeated the action with the saline and gauze. Fuery tightened his grip on Ed's hand whenever he stirred. Ed's breath hitched in his throat when Havoc's hand brushed against his side, bringing the cool metal of his automail hand to soothe the bruised skin laid over broken ribs.
"Sorry, chief. Hurts a bit there, yeah?" Ed just hummed, eyes still closed. Havoc dug through the first aid kit for a minute, pulling out a small blue pack. He smacked it against his knee and wrapped it up in a bit of cloth. Ed groaned as Havoc pressed the cold pack against the swollen ribs. "Hold that there, kid. It'll help." He placed Ed's automail hand over the pack. Havoc turned his attention to Ed's left bicep. Fuery lifted Ed's arm straight in the air, as Havoc unwrapped the layers of gauze. He tended to the stitches the same way he did for Ed's chest, then wrapping it all up again. Fuery gently eased Ed's arm back down again. Havoc smiled and put his hand on Ed's head, messing his hair up affectionately. "Alrighty, kiddo. We're all done." He pushed himself up off of his knees and clipped the first aid kit closed. "You want your sweater back now?" The only response he got in return were Ed's soft snores echoing through the quiet room. Everyone giggled a bit at that, bringing some life into the solemn situation they had found themselves in.
"Guess not." Roy chuckled, throwing the blanket back over Ed. He sighed and looked down at the head of blond hair peaking out from beneath the covers. This kid really had them all wrapped around his little finger.
