Chapter Three: Museum Trip

"Feel better now?" Aunt May asked, after Sarah had finished crying. With a shuddering sigh, she nodded. Smiling May glanced at her watch. "Listen, Sarah, I'd love to stay here and talk about...what happened. But I have a job I need to get to."

"That's okay, Mrs. Parker," Sarah said, her voice hoarse and tinted with an English accent. Whenever she was upset, her English accent became quite prominent, like now. "I could use a little alone time."

"And usually I would agree," May said, glancing over at Peter. He was standing off by himself, rubbing the back of his arm. Little did anyone know that he had stopped Sarah's wheel chair - he's seen the car and used a web shooter to stop her chair before she hit the car….and he felt responsible for the outburst from Carol. "But I have two kids now - and the looks of things you could both use some time alone - together."

"Oh. Right," Sarah said, wiping a few stray tears away with her hands. "I forgot about him. No offense, Peter."

"None taken," Peter said, blinking. May smiled at both of her kids, giving Sarah a hug, and planting a kiss on Peter's cheek before she started for her car. They were still outside, along with Sarah's suitcase of meager belongings. She didn't have a lot of stuff, despite having lived with 49 families in the past.

"Listen," May said, pulling out her keys and looking back at them. "I took this weekend off so I could get to know you better, Sarah. And Pete - I have Monday off too, so I can come to the Science Fair too. But right now - I really need to go...Pete, you know my number, if anything happens, or Sarah, if you have an questions talk to Pete and he can call me - or you can call me. My work number's on the fridge -"

"We'll be fine Aunt May," Peter said, waving. May nodded, smiling a bit nervously at Sarah and Peter. Today was not how she envisioned it. But, hey, that was life - it was always unexpected.

"See you in eight hours!" May said, sounding cheerful as ever. She waved before she got into her car and pulled out of the driveway, leaving Peter and Sarah alone. Peter looked over at Sarah, and she looked at him.

"So…" Sarah said, wondering what to say. She glanced around the now empty driveway, and her eyes landed on her bags. "Should we get these inside?"

"Probably," Peter said, moving towards the bags. Sarah had with her one medium sized suitcase with all her clothing, and a backpack with all her personal items. Peter picked up her suitcase, and was surprised that it felt...pretty light. Sarah smiled a little at his reaction, and rolled over to him. "You travel pretty light."

"Yeah, well, when you move as much as I do you don't get a lot of luggage," She said, picking up her backpack and putting it in her lap. She'd rather carry this bag...it held her most precious belongings, including the ribbon that was braided into her hair when she was transported here.

"Huh," Peter said, starting for the door. Sarah followed, going up the ramp that May had recently had installed. Peter met her at the door, and held the door open for her as she rolled in.

"Nice house," Sarah said, rolling well out of the range of the door before stopping. Peter closed the door gently and shrugged. The house was pretty nice, he guessed. It was fairly small, and only had two levels. "I don't...live up stairs, do I?"

"No," Peter laughed, nodding down a hallway. "You'll be staying on the first floor - just down the hall."

"Oh. That's...that's good," Sarah said, clearing her throat. When she spoke again, her English accent could barely be detected. "So...what do we do after I've unpacked?"

"You want to get unpacked now?" Peter asked, raising his eyebrows.

"I never said I did," Sarah said, a bit indignantly. Peter grinned and set the bag in the hallway.

"Then what say we leave your stuff here, and head to the museum?"

"A museum?" Sarah asked, hugging her pack tight to her. Museums were one of her favorite places to visit. Since she'd come to the future, she'd found there was a lot of history to catch up on - and in all seriousness, she could use as much historical information as she could. And besides, sometimes museums had things from her time in the 12th century - one time she'd even seen one of her mother's preserved dresses. "Would Mrs. Parker be okay with that?"

"Aunt May?" Peter asked, blinking. Would she be okay with that? Well, she was cool with him being Spider-Man so...why not? "Yeah, she's totally cool with it. So - you want to go?"

"I don't know…" Sarah said, glancing at the room down the hall. She had a strange feeling about this - the same feeling she felt whenever something was about to happen.

"There's a new exhibit from 12th century England," Peter said, and Sarah's head bolted up.

"Really?" She asked, not bothering to hide her excitement. "From 12th century England? What year is the merchandise from - do you know from what kingdom it comes from?"

"If I knew, then we wouldn't have to go to the museum," Peter said, grabbing the back of her wheelchair. He glanced at her to make sure it was okay if he pushed her, and she nodded. "Shall we take the bus?"

"Whatever transportation is quicker," Sarah said, as Peter pushed her out the door and carefully down the ramp.

"Subway it is."

A young woman, her long, dark hair streaming behind her, walked confidently down the street. Her outfit consisted of a deep red maroon skirt, a teal tank top, with a long sleeved see-through black shirt over that, topped off with a pair of black combat boots.

There was an air of magic about the woman as she walked down the street. The way she looked, as if she was looking deeper and further into the world than anyone else could ever see. In addition, whenever she passed by anyone, it felt like she had taken a look into their very souls.

A smile playing on her lips, she turned the corner and began to make her way to the Queens Public Library in Forest Hills. A swagger in her step, she excitedly put a hand in her skirt pocket, fingering her portal ring. With this, she could bring anything out of her pocket. Just as long as it existed somewhere else in the universe. But preferably on this Earth.

Slipping the ring on her finger, she cast a silent spell to disguise it as a common plastic ring. That way it wouldn't be recognized by anyone in the magical community. Because she wasn't technically supposed to have a portal ring, nor was she supposed to be outside in the real world - but these, like many rules she'd encountered in the past, were made to be broken.

As she entered the library building, she gave the librarian, a nice elderly lady named Gertrude.

"Welcome back, Ms. Rose," Gertrude said, stepping out from behind her desk. She smiled at the young woman and led her to one of the rooms used for shows and what not. She opened the door and held it while Rose walked inside. "The kids have been anticipating your arrival. They're all very excited for the show."

"I bet," Rose said, smiling and twirling as she entered the room. "Thanks for letting me do a show here, Gertrude."

"Oh, don't mention it," Gertrude said, waving away the compliment. "Too many people forget the library is a place for public events as well as for reading."

"It's nothing," Rose said, smiling as she saw all the people seated in the room. People were in wheelchairs, plastic set up chairs, and some sitting on blankets by the front of the room, where a makeshift stage stood. "I love doing these shows."

"You really make a lot of people happy," Gertrude said, closing the door gently behind her. Rose smiled all the wider and made her way to the stage, waving at the children who looked eagerly at her.

Then, with a flourish, she disappeared behind a small red curtain just behind the stage. She could hear the children outside murmuring to one another in excitement, and brushing a finger along her portal ring - she pondered what to bring forth before she went out on stage. What would bring these kids more joy - rainbow mist from Niagara Falls? No - that would be too wet. A flock of doves from a forest sanctuary? Perhaps...but only if she could release them back into the wild before they pooped on anyone. Parents did not like their kids coming back with poop on them.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Rose began, her voice strong, but not too loud. Whipping her ringed hand out, she envisioned a deciduous forest where a flock of doves was preparing to take off. Then she pictured a portal opening up around them, and then another opening near the bottom of her stage. "Prepare to be amazed by - The Illustrious Illusionist!"

Stepping out, she let her magic flow through her and into her ring. The image in her mind became reality, and a flock of doves flew out from the portal in the stage, amazed the audience below. With another quick burst of magic - the doves flew through a portal in the ceiling, returning to their home.

Taking a quick bow, Rose stood again, smiling at the crowd of people. Little did the audience know that she was not an illusionist - but a true magician of the magical arts. She could bring things from across the world here - could alter reality so it was unrecognizable - and she could do it all with her powers. Usually a magic user needed to use a crystal to draw power from - but Rose had magic running through her veins. She had no need of a crystal, except maybe when she was tired.

"Tell me," Rose said, smiling out at the crowd of people. "What place do you wish to see today? Perhaps the ruins of Aztec Empire? Or maybe you'd like to see the sunken city of Atlan -"

Rose's sentence was cut off as a surge of magic ran over her. Something had just entered the magical barrier her uncle, Doctor Steven Strange, Sorcerer Supreme, had erected around New York City.

"Are you okay?" One of the kids asked, bringing Rose back to here and now. Blinking, she realized she had doubled over, and around her a rain of black rose petals was falling. That wasn't good...it meant she'd let her emotions get a little out of control. Black rose petals always appeared when she lost control of her emotions...it was an occupational hazard of hers, thanks to her magic.

"I'm fine," Rose said, standing up and smiling, catching a few petals in her hand and blowing them out at the crowd. They smiled and reached up to catch the petals, which were softer than silk. Taking a few moments, Rose took a deep breath and calmed herself. She found her center of calm, and brought her emotions back under control. Once she'd done that, the black rose petals stopped falling. "Shall we go on with the show?"

"Yeah!" The crowd cried, and Rose smiled. She opened a portal stage right, right outside Niagra Falls - just far enough that a spray of water would sprinkle the audience. Closing it, she opened up another portal stage left, revealing the North Pole. cold air rushed into the room, and stray snow flakes fluttered in.

Before Rose could do her grand finally of twisting the fabric of reality - her pager went off. That wasn't good. She wasn't supposed to be outside the Sanctorum - both Wong and Uncle Strange were adamant on that. Her powers were "uncontrollable" they said, she wasn't "properly trained" they said. Well, she had control of her powers, mostly, and she was perfectly trained in her opinion. Besides, if she didn't know anything all she had to do was google it.

"I'm terribly sorry," Rose said, making sure all the portals were closed, and the fabric of reality wasn't ripped or anything. "But I have to leave. Until the next show!"

"Awww," the crowd said, disappointed. Rose gave them an apologetic smile, and knew she had to pull one last trick when she left. And she knew just the one. She'd let an ocean breeze blow through from Hawaii, and close it when she slipped through her own portal and back home.

With a bow, she opened the ocean breeze portal behind her, and waited until she felt the breeze move her hair - then she started closing that portal with one hand, and opening another with her other hand. The portal by the ocean closed a split second before Rose fell through her own portal to her room - and she could just hear the gasps and cheers of the children as the portal, now above her, closed.

"Rose," Strange said, knocking on her door. Rose wondered how long he'd been knocking...but figured it couldn't have been too long, since her pager, which was magical, had alerted her she was missed. "Are you still asleep?"

"No," Rose said, her mind going over the various excuses she could use. She didn't like to lie to her Uncle, but...she kind of had to bend the truth when it came to going outside. "I was, um, practicing my magic."

"You know you're not supposed to do that without me or Wong present," Strange sternly admonished, and Rose bit her bottom lip. If he knew where she'd been when she was practicing her magic...he would be livid. "What if you ripped the fabric of reality?"

"I'm not gonna rip the fabric of reality," Rose sighed, opening her door and giving her Uncle a look. "Besides, don't you do that enough as it is?"

"That's because I'm protecting the world from over a million interdeminsional threats at once." Strange replied, his green-blue eyes appraising Rose and her appearance. "Why do I smell an ocean breeze?"

"I was practicing making portals." Rose stated, rolling her eyes at Strange's aghast face. "Nothing happened, Strange. Anyway - why were knocking?"

"Something magical came into the barrier...or maybe something was activated." He said, and Rose nodded. She decided not to tell him that she'd felt it too.

"And…?" Rose asked, hoping that it involved something to do with leaving the Sanctorum.

"And I thought we'd check it out."

"Both of us?" Rose asked, feeling a surge of excitement. A few sparks of blue electricity sparked in air around her.

"Yes, well, I thought maybe we could check it out - but if your powers are too much -"

"Who said they were too much?" Rose asked, clamping down on her excitement. Immediately, the electricity disappeared. "I have complete control of my powers."

"Are you sure?" Strange asked, backing out of the doorway a little. He snapped his fingers, his usual Wizardly appearance changing to a business suit, dark blue. His red cape, however, had decided it did not want to be changed, and floated off to the side. "Museums have a lot of people in them…"

"We're in New York City - there's a lot of people anywhere outside the Sanctorum." Rose deadpanned, folding her arms. She liked the outfit she was dressed in. Hopefully, while she was out, no one from the library would see her...but, considering the museum and library were both so far away, she wouldn't' need to worry about it.

"Be careful," Wong said from his gaming room. Rose rolled her eyes one last time and ran a hand through her hair. Would they never give her a break?

"Don't worry, Wong," Rose said smirking at Strange. "I'll make sure Strange doesn't break reality or anything."

"He didn't mean me," Strange said, frowning at Rose. She shrugged.

"He didn't specify who was to be careful."

"She has a point!" Wong called, and Rose gave her Uncle a triumphant smile. Strange let out a sigh and grumbled something incoherently underneath his breath as he opened the portal.

"Lets just get this over with," He said, waiting for Rose to go through the portal first. "Ladies first."

"Age before beauty," Rose said, and Strange opened his mouth to say something else - but before he could, Rose jumped through. She knew when she pushed him too far.

"Where you get that sass, I'll never know," Strange said, stepping through the portal after Rose. She smiled sweetly up at him.

"Whatever do you mean?"

"You know what - never mind." He said, closing the portal and taking in their surroundings. They were in an alleyway, out of the view of the streets, and pretty close to the museum. "Lets just get inside and see if one of the new exhibits has been magically activated."

Finally got chapter three uploaded! I'm so sorry for the late update - but I have like, 10 stories going at the same time, so I update sporadically. Anyway, I am working on this story, and I have to say, I love this one a whole lot.

Also, I decided to make this universe a mash of the MCU Spider-Man and Ultimate Spider-Man, only different. It's like...my own sort of universe. Side note: Iron Man is like a dad to Spider-Man. Till next time!
