The sound of metal banging loudly on metal woke all the initiates in the transfer dorms up. Some of the initiates groan in a half asleep state. Harmony slowly opened her chocolate colored eyes and peered towards the door. She saw Four standing there with a metal pipe in his hand.
"Training room. Twenty minutes." Four told the initiates before leaving them to get changed amongst the rest of their morning routine.
Rather then complain like she could hear some of the other initiates do Harmony got up barely registering her new friends do the same. Harmony quickly changed not wanting to have her body revealed anymore then it had to be with the boys among the transfers.
"Why so early..." James groaned out in a half asleep manner. He rubbed his eyes trying to stay awake.
"Because we're initiates. Getting up early is part of the deal here. We might as well get used to it."
James said nothing to Naias statement. She wasn't wrong after all. He went about his morning routine.
Harmony and her friends head to the dining hall quickly to get at least a muffin before training. Once they get their muffins they eat them on the way to the training room.
The first thing Harmony saw when she entered the training room was Six and Four. With them was the Dauntless leader from the night before. All three glance over at the initiates trickling in.
"Some of you are late." Four said as he glanced at a clock. "To learn the importance of being on time all of you will be doing laps."
"How many?" An initiate Harmony didn't know the name of asked.
"You run until I tell you to stop." Four said.
Harmony and Naia were the first to start running. They didn't want to get points docked on their first day.
"Well? Get to it!" Four snapped.
The remaining initiates immediatly start running not wanting to push their luck. Tris and Four watch the initiates run laps. Sure enough some began to slow down after fifteen minutes of this.
"Keep running!" Eric barked out startling the lagging initiates into speeding up their pace.
Tris looked at Four. "I dont think they'll be able to last much longer."
Four kept his eyes on the running initiates. "I'll let them stop in five minutes. They'll need to get their stamina up just like your initiate class did."
Tris returned her gaze to the initiates without another word. After five minutes Four called out for the initiates to stop running. The initiates stopped running. Some initiates collapsed gasping for air.
I hope this won't happen everyday. Harmony thought as she bent down hands on her knees panting. She refused to collapse like some of the other initiates; she knew that there were some who wouldn't want a former Amity to succeed.
Eric let out a scoff that was in no way inaudible. Harmony held back a scowl. She didn't want his attention on her.
"Gather around initiates." Four called. When the initiates had done as he asked he continued. "You're all going to begin learning how to fight. Pay attention. Six here will be demonstrating the techniques you'll learn today."
A scoff was heard from an initiate. "Her? What can she do." The initiate sneered.
Tris stepped foward her eyes locked on the initiate who spoke. "What's your name, initiate?"
"Carl."
"Well, Carl, if you think that you, an initiate, can do better then someone who passed initiation...Give me your best shot."
Four smirked knowing full well what Tris can do in a fight backed up. The initates also backed up to give the two space. Eric had his arms crossed over his chest, his face remained stoic as he watched.
Tris settled into a fighting stance her eyes locked on the foolish initiate. She didn't have to wait long before Carl lunged in an attempt to end the fight quickly. Tris fluidly side stepped; spinning on the ball of her left foot she slammed her right foot into the side of Carls head dropping him like a sack of potatos.
"Get up. I thought you were going to show me up?" Tris stared down the initiate who only let out a groan of pain. "That's what i thought."
Tris motioned for two boys to help Carl to his feet. They obeyed and helped him up.
"Let this be a lesson to the rest of you." Four spoke. His amusement had faded and he was back to his stern instructor mode. "Six here ranked first in her initiate class."
"What rank did you get?" Naia asked curiously.
"I expect questions from an Erudite. I also ranked first. Now partner up. Six and I will go around to correct techniques."
After a couple different demonstrations of different techniques and how to use them the initiates paired up. Tris and Four went around making corrections until it was time for lunch.
"You're all dismissed for lunch. You have one hour. Meet back here when you're done." Tris said.
The initiates and Eric file out and Tris turned to look at her boyfriend. Four stood there looking at Tris with a smirk.
"Well done taking down that initiate."
"It wasn't that hard. He was all bark and no bite."
Four laughed. He and Tris leave to get some lunch themselves. They sat with Zeke, Marlene, Uriah, Lynn and Shauna.
~~Lunch Break~~
Initiates came into the training room. Harmony saw Eric was still there discussing things with Tris and Four. Harmony didn't know what they were discussing but she assumed they were talking about rankings.
Tris was the first to notice them. She began walking over to them. "Initiates!" She waited for all the initiates to have their attention on her before she continued. "Follow us up to the roof."
Tris led the way up to the roof while Four and Eric followed from behind the initiates. When they got up their Harmony immediately caught sight of the targets and guns.
Well..I knew the guns were coming. I just hope I dont completely screw this up. Harmony thought.
Little did I know me screwing up would be the least of my worries.
Harmony paid attention like the other initiates as Eric began speaking. "As Dauntless you will learn how to use a gun. Today you will learn how to disassemble and reassemble a gun. Once you've finished with that you will practice shooting."
Harmony took a deep breath, mentally preparing herself for actually firing a gun. She took a place in between Carl and a former Erudite named Jeff. Four demonstrated how to disassemble his gun and then reassembled it at a slow pace so that the initiates saw clearly what he was doing.
Harmony disassembled the gun she was given. It took her twenty five minutes to reassemble it. She grimaced at the time taken. If that was in the field she'd already be dead.
The Amity born initiate continued to disassemble and reassemble the gun, the initiates around her doing the same. After about a half hour Tris and Four told them to stop and practice shooting at the targets.
That's when it happened.
BANG. A loud gunshot went off as Carl fumbled with his gun. Harmony registered nothing but blinding pain that made her feel incredibly nauseous.
Carl had shot her in the leg. Four was immediately in the initiates face. Fury was palpable from Tris Eric and Four as Four yelled at the former Erudite.
"Tris." Eric said. Tris looked at him. "Take her to the infirmary."
Tris nodded and picked Harmony up from the ground. She had passed out from the high pain level that came from being shot. Tris left the roof through the stair exit with Harmony in her arms heading to the infirmary.
