DM Margo Alone Chapter 4
Later on that evening, El Macho and Bratt stopped outside Gru's house in their van. To them, it seemed there were people inside with the lights on and the sound of Christmas music and the shadows moving around too. What they didn't know was that Margo had constructed an elaborate silhouette display, to make them think the family were home again.
Over in Marseille, the remaining lot of the Gru family were taking it easy in the apartment. Gru was on the phone trying to call someone to assist in reaching Margo. But he was finding it hard to talk in French. ''Do you think Margo will be ok Edith?'' Agnes asked her big sister.
''She should be'' replied Edith, ''After all she's older than both of us and plus she has experienced far worse than this like surviving a plunge into the River Charles. If Margo managed that, then she can manage a couple of days in the real world''.
Later that evening in the apartment, Edith woke up and went to see Gru who was sitting by the window. ''Edith, what are you doing out of bed?'' he asked. ''Have you heard from Margo, Dad?'' Edith asked. ''No'' said Gru, ''You wanna sit down?''. Edith sat down next to her dad. ''Where's Mom?'' she asked. ''She got on a plane to try and go back and get to Margo'' replied Gru.
''That means she won't be here for Christmas'' Edith said thoughtfully, ''Margo won't be here for Christmas. It doesn't feel like Christmas at all!''. ''We'll just have to postpone Christmas a day this year'' said Gru. ''I think that's a bad idea'' said Edith. ''We don't have much choice sweetheart'' said Gru.
''Well families shouldn't be apart on Christmas'' said Edith, ''No matter what goes on the rest of the year. Us here. Mom and Margo there. It's stupid Dad. Christmas isn't about Marseille''. ''Then what is Christmas about honey?'' Gru asked. ''Christmas is about families being together'' Edith said. ''Atta girl'' smiled Gru, giving her a hug.
Meanwhile back at Gru's house, Margo had ordered herself a Hawaiian pizza on stuffed crust and a bottle of Pepsi Cola from Pizza Heaven. She sat watching another DVD, The Lion King while she waited for her order to arrive. Margo was about half way through the movie when she heard the doorbell ring.
''It's Pizza Heaven madam'' said a voice from outside, ''I have your pizza and Pepsi Cola''. Margo paused the movie and went to fetch the money to pay for her order. Then she opened the front door and paid the delivery guy. ''Thank you'' she said. After the delivery guy had left, Margo breathed in the sweet aroma as she went back inside and said ''A lovely Hawaiian stuffed crust pizza just for me''.
That night as Margo got ready for bed, she looked at a framed family photo and this made her miss her family even more. She wondered if she'd ever see her family again. What if they never came back?
Margo went to the bedroom window and got down on her knees and put her hands together to pray to her family. ''If you guys can come back'' she said softly, ''I'll do anything it takes, I promise, goodnight''. Then Margo turned the light off and went to sleep.
She didn't realize that Lucy had managed to get on a plane and was trying to get back to her. But now Lucy had another problem! The plane she had taken wasn't going to the same airport that was closet to Gru's house, it was going to another airport in America that was much further away!
''Looks like I'm gonna have to catch another plane to the right airport after this one'' Lucy thought to herself. The following morning, Margo went to the superstore to do the shopping. Margo went up and down the aisles filling up the trolley as she pushed it along. Then she took it all to the checkout to pay. ''That's $18.93'' said the cashier.
Margo paid for the items and made her way home. The next time Margo had a shower, she took care to avoid using the aftershave lotion again remembering how painful it was before. ''I'll never use that stuff again'' she thought wisely.
Meanwhile Lucy's problems were far from over. She'd landed in the airport, but once again everything was fully booked and there were no planes going to the other airport where they'd come to in the first place.
Then at last, it was Christmas Eve and Margo had plenty of adult work to do around the house. She put the washing on. She even gave the Christmas tree a few extra decorations. As Margo went out for a walk, she saw the burglars in their van again, they'd slept in there overnight. ''Today's the day Bratt'' said El Macho, ''Tonight we break into Gru's house at 9:00pm and steal everything we want inside!''. Margo overheard them from where she was standing and realized they had caught her out deceiving them before.
"I'm going to stop them myself!" Margo thought, ''But how?''. Margo racked her brains trying to think of a plan. But it was hard to think of a plan. That night, she went to the church to see a local children's choir perform. Margo knew her parents would have done just the same.
As the service progressed, Margo noticed Old Man Malvern come in and sit next to her making her nervous. ''Merry Christmas'' he said cheerily. Margo didn't know what to say. She hadn't expected him to be nice. ''Are you Margo the girl who lives on the same street as me who finds it hard to be brave all the time and tries to be strong her little sisters and those around her?''.
Margo nodded. ''There's my granddaughter up there'' Mr Malvern said, ''She's about your age''. Margo found out that Mr Malvern was actually a very nice man.
