AN: Just wanted to make a quick note before the beginning of this chapter. Obviously this isn't gonna be a cheery Naruto in my fic. You have to imagine that being killed has to take a lot out of you, so therefore, this is a more serious Naruto but he's also a kid. One of the problems I had with canon was NaruHina was so obviously forced. God you think the kid who saved the village would get some punani am I right? No awkward phases, no Naruto looking at woman like woman, only sakura. So, let's have fun shall we? – Kuco
To say there was tension in the air would be an understatement. Naruto tapped on the Hokage's desk repeatedly while the old man stared at the boy routinely taking puffs from his pipe. Naruto could say at least that he was dreading this conversation. In his former life he had always been the happy go lucky kid who always believed he could do anything he put his heart to. Failure changed him. In death, Naruto reminisced about everything that happened in his life. Or better yet, whatever pathetic excuse for a life he had. Sure, he had his friends, but he would never be normal. He did not get to live a normal life. Constantly ostracized by the village; to say there was animosity in the back of his head would be an understatement. He didn't get to go out with girls, for drink with shikamaru or kiba. Failure changed a man.
"Naruto" the man finally spoke. "Would you like to explain to me how you found the truth about the fox being sealed into you? A secret that is S rank and punishable by death." The boy couldn't help himself but chuckle. "Is something amusing to you Naruto?" the man spoke with a raised eyebrow.
Naruto leaned back into is chair and stretched out his arms. "If I told you, you wouldn't believe me so there's no point? How about this instead? I'll ask you a question, why did you abandon me all my life?'
The hokage's eyes widened in shock while the old man cleared his throat. "What are you talking about Naruto? I've always watched out for you ever since you were born."
"Then look me in the eyes and tell me who my parents are. If you are sincere then do not continue to lie to me?" Naruto stated while glaring at the man.
"Naruto, I do not know where this is coming from, but you are an orphan. I do not know what happened to your parents, but I took you in. I gave you an apartment, an allowance so you could get yourself food, the ability for you to start your ninja career."
Tears fell from the young boy's face as he bent his head downwards. He had really hoped the old man would come clean about his parents. Anger and frustration boiled inside him. He could feel the fox pressing against his conscience, begging to be let out and do harm against the old man. "You only gave me that apartment because every orphanage you put me into would abandon me or kick me out. You only let me start my ninja career because you knew I wouldn't be able to pass the henge test because of the Kyubbi's chakra. You only gave me an allowance because you feel guilty about the death of the Yondaime Hokage, his only child. Bearing the curse of the demon fox. I know things Hokage-sama. I've lived this life destined to fail and I only have once chance at not screwing up again."
Hiruzen Sarutobi looked at the boy in front of him in utter shock. He knew about the nine tails; he knew who his father was. The boy chastised him for neglecting him throughout his life and the man felt guilt for there was truth in the boy's words.
"The Naruto Uzumaki you know is no more Hokage-sama. The happy go lucky kid is gone. He died when I died. But fret not Hokage-sama, I will remain loyal to the Leaf. I am a ninja of the village and I will do my best to protect it. I inherited your will of fire, but things will be different for me."
Sarutobi felt pain as he was addressed by Naruto so formally. The boy was never formal with him. He looked down on Naruto as if he was his own grandson. Filled with ashame and regret the old man could feel his age in his bones again. He could not threaten the boy, Danzo yes, but he could never. He looked so much like Minato. The main could resonate with the boys words, while confused about his saying with a past life, the man knows what failure is like. Before he could muster a response Naruto stood in front of him and proceeded to walk towards the door.
"I didn't dismiss you Naruto." The main said while releasing a puff of smoke.
"There is nothing more I wish to say anymore Hokage-sama. Perhaps another day, I haven't slept yet." Naruto twisted the knob before stopping midway. "I do have a request though Hokage-same. Don't place me with team 7."
Sarutoi's eyes widened again. How on earth could this boy no so many secrets.
"Just trust me he said." Naruto finally opened the door. "It doesn't work out" Naruto firmly closed the door before proceeding towards his apartment.
He left the old man stunned. The room filled with nothing but his thoughts and himself. He couldv'e asked so many questions but the pain he saw in Naruto's face was too much for him. He needs to know more but the old man's age was catching up with him. It was going to be a long day and he would have to rearrange the future ninja teams would be. It's the least he could do, Naruto never asked for much.
