Snow began to fall on the lit city of Mitakihara. The bright lights of the city made it feel homey and the snow made it feel like it was a fantasy filled wonderland. Together, it created a strange sense of nostalgia to some. They can't quite put their finger on why they feel like they were reminiscing of their youth. Sometimes though, it was best to let things not be answered. For now, it seemed best to let the good times roll. To feel that odd emotion of happiness flooding during the snowy day. Snow doesn't happen much for many winters around here.
It seemed like it was going to snow for a couple of days. Being close to around 15 inches due to how big the snow storm was. Weather reports can be wrong at most times, but everyone believed that they were going to see more snow than they ever have. The citizen's preparing to stock up on food and water and supplies in case they were going to get snowed in.
Though tonight was just a relaxing moment for two girls who wanted to take a stroll down the familiar park they hang out at. The park was getting its share of snow just like the city. Everything was getting covered until it was all white and no trace of color could be spotted.
Mami and Kyoko were lucky to have extra warm clothing on them. The soft luscious fur of their inner coats helped them keep their upper body warm with their lower body having jeans to cover every inch of their skin. The only part of their body that wasn't covered was their face. The only thing that kept their face warm and not going numb was a cup of hot chocolate that they got from a cafe that was a mile away from the park.
The night quickly started to make the sky dark as the massive dark gray cloud loomed all around the city. The small snow piling up one inch at a time in it's own slow pace. The two girlfriends were wanting to spend some time together on this night. It seemed to be almost the perfect time to hang out and have a small date while strolling down the empty and lit place.
Mami took a sip of the hot chocolate as it made her shiver from the powerful taste that overflowed her taste buds. She had to know what kind of chocolate could be this good. In the meantime, she was busy being with Kyoko who was starting up a chat with her thanks to the same rich drink. Maybe it might be too sweet for the red haired girl.
"So...you're saying that those new idol group that are growing in popularity...are undead?" Mami took another sip as she looked at Kyoko.
"Yes! I swear those girls have got to be zombies or something!" Kyoko also had bought her causal brand of pocky in the cafe while she took a bite of one. "I mean, have you SEEN them? They just act like...they are dead."
"Well I don't actually care much for pop idol groups, but I am sure these girls are special."
"Pfft. Yeah. They are special undead with some weird zombie virus in their system." The red haired girl was positive with her statement, with her blond girlfriend just going along with her fantasy filled theory brained idea of hers.
The two kept walking with Mami feeling light snow lightly touching on her face. Feeling cold for a split second before the snowflake turned into water on her warm face. They both knew the walk wouldn't be long due to the cold temperature. It was just a stroll to enjoy the night of the snowfall while being with eachothers company.
It was Kyoko's idea for the two to go on a short stroll since she secretly feared the weather report would be right and they would get snowed in the next day. It would be the last date of theirs for a while until the snow and ice were cleared out of the way. Mami didn't really believe the weather reports much, only trusting her gut and looking at the weather and temperature. So far, it would seem likely the city would get fifteen inches of snow.
Kyoko letted out a groan. Having to complain of how her leg felt tired from walking. Only the left leg and not the right one. Maybe because she putted more pressure on it. Regardless of how it happened, Mami started to lead them to a place to rest as she too felt tired. There they both found a bench that was covered in snow. Mami went over and used her jacket sleeve to brush the snow away, showing the hard wooden material of the bench.
She brushed away the rest of the fluffy snow off the handles as Kyoko began to sit down with Mami sitting next to her. There, the two girls began to relax for a while. Placing their drinks next to each other while getting a chance to rest. Maybe after some time sitting on the bench and getting their strength back, they might just call it a night and head back home.
Either it was pure dumb luck or intentional by Mami, the bench was more than just a place of rest. It was a special spot that gave the person who chose to sit there a view that cost nothing but your time. A sightseeing of the city. The lighted architectures showing every nook and cranny of the area. Not a speck of darkness showed the city.
It was like a symbol. A hopeful one to point out. Mitakihara would never have been in this state if not for certain magical girls that fought off evil as the moon rises and the stars appear with the black sky. Kyoko and Mami watched the lighted city with a smile. A prideful smile. They had a reason to fight every night and defend the place they called home from Wraiths. To see Mitakihara thrive with life. No despair. No fear. Peace. That was all the magical girl group wanted. Peace in Mitakihara.
Kyoko took a sigh with her breath being shown from the cold air. She looked to her side to see Mami just gazed at the light. Mesmerized by seeing what her work had accomplished. Safety for her. For Kyoko. For Nagisa. For all of her friends that she has made along the way.
"Mitakihara is pretty wonderful isn't it?" Mami spoke out as her eyes never left from looking at the far away lights.
Kyoko nodded. Admitting that if she was to have made this place become her city, then she would love every single inch of the area.
"Yeah. I say it is the second best thing to happen in my life." Kyoko took a bite of a pocky stick after she said that.
Mami felt her cheeks starting to burn slightly. She knew where it was leaning at. She knew the answer right away. Though maybe she could try to make Kyoko say it. "What's the first?" Mami said with her being so innocent sounding that it was impossible to understand if she was messing around or being serious.
Kyoko felt her face starting to turn red like her hair. The pocky in between her fingers almost dropped from the words her girlfriend said aloud. She knew it was Mami trying to act oblivious.
Kyoko looked away and paid attention to the lights on the far city. "Y-you know which one is the first."
"Maybe? But what is it. I ain't a mind reader."
"You ain't, but you act more like a trickster. Trying to embarrass me like this."
"Commmoooonnnnn." Mami leaned over to Kyoko and got her chin closer to the red haired girl's shoulder. "What's the first one?"
Kyoko felt more of her face starting to be red. If the snow wasn't going to make her face burn bright, then Mami's teasing might as well be the one to do the trick on the girl who acts tough and acts all cool.
"...You." Kyoko had to say it to end the torment.
Mami grinned as she scooted herself closer. Kyoko refused to look at her to try to hide her own reddened cheeks. She grabbed her drink and sipped it with her hoodie still up and covering most of her face.
"It wasn't that hard was it?" Mami got her cup and began to start taking sips of her drink too.
"You're too sweet like your baked goods yet you like to act like me. Sometimes I wonder why you tease with me at times." Kyoko still refused to look. Mami would have a field day seeing how she was able to make her girlfriend blush this hard. She blamed the setting and tone being the true culprit of her flushed face. Mami was just the mix of it.
"Simple. It just feels nice to have someone that really loves you." Kyoko felt an arm wrap around her back and Mami's body being closer.
"You dummy!" The red haired blushing girl looked over to her girlfriend. "You know I'll always love you-!"
Mami's plan fell into motion. Being smooth as ice. The blonde girl quickly got her chance to move her head forward and give the shy girl a small peck on the lips. A quick kiss, but it's very effective to get a small shocked yelp out of Kyoko. Kyoko quickly turned her head away but this time having to duck her head to her chest to cover herself.
Mami giggled. Having to now lay her head on the somewhat shielded girlfriend of hers. Taking a view of Mitakihara while being with the one person she loved the most of all. She moved her head slightly to get a view of the hooded covered Kyoko who was getting all red-faced.
"Heh. Sorry for doing that. I'm just...happy to be with you Kyo-"
"Achoo!" Kyoko sneezed loudly while she covered her mouth with her gloved hand.
Mami got herself back up while still sitting down as she looked at Kyoko. "Are you ok?"
"Y-yeah!" Kyoko was playing it off as if nothing happened. Crossing her arms and going back to acting tough.
Of course Mami wasn't falling for it this easily. She took her arm away from Kyoko and took off a glove to place her naked hand on Kyoko's forehead. It felt very warm. A clear sign she was getting sick from the cold.
"You're burning up!" Mami said as she started to put her hand back in the glove.
"Maybe I am feeling a bit ill." Kyoko didn't want to admit it, but she might have just caught a cold or a flu being out in the cold. Worse, Mami might just have gotten herself sick too from the kiss. She felt more ashamed at that thought as she never wanted Mami to be in harm's way. If she got Mami sick, then Kyoko would be upset for months on end.
Mami got herself up and gently got Kyoko to stand as well. She asked if Kyoko could walk, with the red head nodding and putting her hands in her pockets. It was time to head back home. Mami grabbed the drinks and was ready to go. With the snow still falling and showing no sign of stopping with Kyoko starting to show the symptoms of a flu, it seemed to be the best idea for Mami to take both of them over to her place.
Kyoko tried to refuse. Saying she could find a place to relax and eat hot soup in. She figured Mami would still be stubborn as the girl still kept pushing for the stubborn girl to come over to her apartment. While Kyoko did want to spend time with Mami with her plan originally being that she would be so tired that she wanted to spend the night with her even though the chance of them being stuck in the apartment together was possibly high, getting sick from the cold was not what the magical girl wanted.
She accepted the kind offer regardless. She didn't want to get worse but also didn't want Mami worrying to death over her. The two girls started to walk with Mami being by Kyoko's side as Kyoko had her arms crossed on her chest. Trying to bundle up being warm to prevent her flu from getting worse by warming herself up.
"I'm sorry…" Kyoko muttered to herself.
"It's not your fault." Mami spoke in her caring tone. with Kyoko jokingly bringing up the nickname she made for Mami's kindness. 'Mami's Mommy Tone' she calls it when Nagisa or anyone else tends to do something good or bad around her. Mami rolled her eyes while slightly smiling.
"I wanted to spend the night with you, but not like this."
"Well, sick or not, you still are welcomed to spend the night at my apartment anytime."
"Thanks…" Kyoko looked side to side as if she felt someone was watching her. "I love you Mami."
Mami smiled. Hearing Kyoko saying it regardless if she was serious, was trying to act flirty, or wanting to make her giggle, Mami always felt butterflies in her stomach and the tingly feeling in her heart and smile. Her heart and brain still always kept Kyoko in mind. Always has, and most definitely always will.
"I love you too Kyoko."
