Comment: Thank you for your feedback, guys! :) Here's another little season 4 chapter, shortly before Robin moves to Japan. It alludes to their first kiss (on her couch) and their dinner in 4x01 when they toast to 'taking chances'. Hope you like! :o)
When she unlocks the door, her apartment is hauntingly empty and cold. He knows he's acting suspicious, bringing her all the way to Brooklyn when he lives just 23 minutes from the bar, but he couldn't resist. She's going to Japan tomorrow. He has to tell her now.
"Hey, I've got something for you," she says, beckoning him inside. She disappears into the kitchen, and he awkwardly stands in exactly the place her couch had been, a shudder running down his spine.
"I never got around to opening it, so I thought maybe you'd like it," she grins, handing him a bottle of scotch. He studies the brand, smiles down at the etiquette, then puts it on the vacant floor and pulls her close.
"Don't go," he says into her hair, pleading.
He feels her stiffen in his embrace, taken aback. "I have to," Robin replies in a small voice. "Taking chances, remember?"
Yes, he thinks, I remember. He's shocked he feels tears in the corners of his eyes, so he lets go of her quickly, thanks her for the scotch and leaves.
The drive over Brooklyn Bridge is painful, and he wishes he'd thought of something else to say.
