DM Margo Alone Chapter 17

''Well thanks for helping me'' said Margo, ''I thought I was done for. I'm in this mess cos I got on the wrong plane at the airport. My family went to Tampa and I ended up here in Toronto''. ''No problem Margo'' said Alex, ''Now I gotta go. I need to get back to my friends! Good luck on getting your family back!''. ''Bye Alex!'' said Margo. After her friend had gone, Margo decided to go and find the biggest Christmas tree as she had wanted to do before.

Meanwhile the police returned all the money Bratt and El Macho had stolen to Mr Turner. ''Well Mr Turner'' said one of the cops, ''It's all over. We apprehended the thieves and got your money''. ''I'd like to get that money over to the general hospital as soon as possible'' replied Mr Turner. ''I'll handle it'' said the cop. ''Thank you'' said Mr Turner.

''Excuse me Mr Turner'' said a detective, ''I found this note. Looks like a kid broke your window''. Mr Turner started to read the note. It was from Margo.

Dear Mr Turner,

I broke your window to catch the bad guys. I'm sorry. Do you have insurance? If you don't, I'll send you some money, if I ever get back home.

Merry Christmas

Margo Gru

Ps Thanks for the turtledoves. It said.

Mr Turner smiled. ''Turtledoves'' he said thoughtfully. At that moment long after Margo's family had arrived in Toronto. Lucy had spent hours looking for Margo and showing photos of her daughter to anyone who walked past, but no one seemed to have seen Margo. "Excuse me, ma'am," she asked desperately. "Have you seen my daughter?". No answer. "Hey, excuse me, sir," she went on. "Have you seen my daughter'? Still no one responded, everyone just waked past uninterested.

Meanwhile, Margo had found the biggest the Christmas tree in Nathan Phillips Square. It was almost midnight. Christmas was here for another year. Margo prayed ''If I can't see all of my family, can I at least see my mom? I'll never ask for anything again as long as I live, I just want my mom''. Just then Lucy approached and thought she could see her daughter in the distance.

''Margo?'' she shouted. Margo thought she heard her mom's voice. ''Wow that worked fast!'' she thought. Lucy ran up to Margo and gave her the biggest hug as she'd done last year. ''Oh Margo'' she said. With tears of joy running down her cheeks, Margo felt she could never let go and stay like this forever.

''Mom. I'm sorry I messed up!'' she sniffled. Lucy picked up Margo, still hugging her tight. ''Shhhh Margo'' she said softly, ''Don't cry, Momma's here now''. Lucy stroked Margo's hair comfortingly. Margo blinked back her tears and said, ''Merry Christmas Mom!''.

"Merry Christmas, my baby girl," said Lucy, trying not to cry herself so she could be strong for her daughter. ''Now let's go'' said Lucy as she carried Margo away. ''Mom how did you know where to find me?'' Margo asked. ''I knew how much Christmas trees meant to you'' replied Lucy, ''And this is the biggest one here!''.

''Where's everyone else?'' Margo asked. ''At the Chelsea Hotel. They didn't like palm trees either'' Lucy explained. Lucy carried Margo to the Chelsea Hotel where the rest of the family were waiting. "MARGO!'' cried Gru as Lucy handed her over to him to hold. ''Dad!'' Margo said, ''I missed you all so much!''. ''We missed you too honey'' said Gru.

Margo and her family slept in late on Christmas morning. Despite being the youngest, Agnes was the first to wake up. ''Wake up, it's Christmas!'' she shouted. Margo, Edith and the minions ran after her up the stairs to the suite where a Christmas tree surrounded by a truckload of presents from Mr Turner as a reward for Margo for saving his Disney Store lay all round.

''Cool!'' said Edith delightedly. ''Mom! Dad!'' Margo shouted, ''You gotta see this!''. Gru and Lucy came into the suite. ''Gosh!'' said an amazed Gru. "Yikes on a stick!" said Lucy. Dru caught up with them. He was so amazed and excited he hugged Gru and Lucy very tightly and picked them up and jumped about.

Agnes and the minions started to open the presents like mad, but Edith made them stop. She wanted to say something. ''Everyone calm down!'' she shouted.

The others looked at her. ''If Margo hadn't messed up in the first place'' Edith told the others, ''Then we wouldn't be here in this huge hotel room with a truckload of free presents. Margo's mistake worked out for the best and made me the happiest little girl this Christmas, so it's only fair Margo opens the first present''.

Edith handed Margo a big present, ''Merry Christmas Margo'' she smiled. "Merry Christmas, Edith," Margo replied with a smile. ''Now let's dig in!'' Edith said. Margo started to open the present Edith had given her. But as the rest of the family opened their presents, She slipped away to get dressed. She wanted to go and find Alex.

To Margo's luck, she found Alex in Queens Park with his friends waiting while the circus train was being loaded up. ''Merry Christmas Alex'' she said running up to him. Alex was surprised to see her again. ''Margo?'' he said, ''Merry Christmas. Have you got your family back yet?''. ''Yes'' said Margo, ''They flew from Tampa to find me!''.

''They found out you were here then?'' asked Alex. Margo nodded. ''I got something for you'' she said placing a turtledove in his paw. ''What is this?'' asked Alex, ''What does it do?''. ''It's a turtledove'' Margo explained, ''It's a symbol of friendship. You have one. I have one. As long as we each have a turtledove, we'll be friends forever''. ''Oh thank you Margo!'' said Alex.

He picked up Margo and embraced her. Back in the Chelsea Hotel, one of the bellmen knocked on the door of the suite to where the Gru family were staying.

Kevin the minion answered it. ''Mrs Gru's room service bill sir'' said the bellman handing him a piece of paper. Kevin spoke in Minionese. ''Merry Christmas'' said the bellman and left. Kevin unfolded the bill and looked at it. Edith came over. ''Hey Kevin'' she said, ''What's that you've got?''. Kevin showed her the bill. Edith read all that was on it and the cost. It totalled $567.50. ''Uh, oh. Uh, Dad? Dad!'' Edith said running over to Gru and handing him the bill. ''What is it Edith?'' Gru asked.

''Margo's been having room service when she was alone'' said Edith, ''Look how much there is too pay!''. Alex and Margo were enjoying a peaceful moment together. Suddenly, Margo heard her dad yell so loudly she could hear him from across the park. ''MARGO!'' he thundered, ''YOU SPENT $567 ON ROOM SERVICE?!''. "Oops!" Margo groaned knowing that she was in trouble once again.
