Comment: Anybody out there? :') I HOPE SO! Sorry for taking so long to post. This is after the scene in "Baby Talk" in which Robin asks Barney if he ever felt needed when they dated. I tried to show how Barney appreciates her taking the lead. As always, thank you for reading :')
He takes her out to breakfast after she got rid of his latest conquest. She moans about work and Becky over pancakes smothered in maple syrup, and he listens carefully (he still feels guilty after the 'carrots and peas' incident).
Robin feels much better as she finishes her coffee. She stretches her arms over her head contently, smiling almost sheepishly. "Thanks for listening."
Barney shrugs it off, though he catches the undertone in her voice. He asks her if she wants to go for a walk and she happily agrees – she loves Central Park in October (and she can avoid Ted and Becky for a little longer that way).
The waiter leaves the bill between their empty plates, and Barney moves to get his wallet.
"I got this," Robin says, placing a few bills on the table. She closes her handbag and looks up to catch him watch her. She half-expects him to make some clever comment about it, but he's just looking at her, his eyes gentle and smiling.
"Shall we?" she asks, trying to ignore the funny feeling in her stomach.
Barney nods, sitting up. "Lead the way."
They end up having ice-cream in the late autumn sunshine.
The last line also refers to the last scene in 6x06 in which we see Ted and Becky at Central Park. While he realises that her little girl attitude isn't as appealing as he thought, Barney and Robin have ice-cream "as equals"instead. Let me know what you think! :)
