Chapter 64
The EMT unit that first responded on the scene of Kyoko's accident are working double time inside the ambulance keeping her alive.
"We are losing her, you should hurry up!" One paramedic who is pumping air in the air bag said to the driver of the ambulance.
"Yes, we'll be arriving at the hospital in two minutes."
Sho who is seating at the edge of the ambulance is shocked at the sight of Kyoko with her own blood.
Reaching the hospital the waiting doctors and nurses did not waste time and immediately rushed Kyoko to the emergency room.
"Are you with her, what's her name and what is your relationship with her?" The receiving nurse asked Sho for medical record purposes.
"Her-her name is Mogami Kyoko and I am her fr-boyfriend." Sho said shaking.
"Do you know how to contact her family?"
Sho nodded and gave Saena's number.
"Here this will help you calm down." The receiving nurse said giving Sho a cold glass of water.
"How are her scans?" A doctor asked.
"There's a hematoma in her brain, she must have it from the trauma in her head."
"We must remove the hematoma immediately, prepare the operating theatre for emergency surgery!"
"Yes doctor." The nurse said rushing out of the emergency room.
"Where is Kyoko? I haven't seen her since she left running for Tsuruga-san." Moko said worriedly.
"Hey there you are!" Sawara called running towards Moko .
"Sawara san?"
"Come with me there's been an accident, Kyoko was hit by a speeding car." Sawara said looking pale.
"It can't be…" Moko trailed off surprised at the news Sawara just said.
Saena hurried to the hospital where Kyoko is, by luck she was in Tokyo that day to arrange some paperworks.
Before Saena can reach the hospital she was blocked by Himuro.
"Himuro?"
"She's my daughter isn't she?" Himuro asked holding Saena's shoulders looking into her eyes.
"Stop it, you lost your right on her the day you left me!" Saena said angrily hitting Himuro's chest.
"I tried to find you Saena…I regret what I did."
"Saena who is him?" Kuu asked who just arrived at the hospital after hearing what happened to Kyoko.
"Me I am-"
"He's Himuro my boyfriend." Saena cut Himuro off and looked at him sharply.
"Kyoko, our daughter how is she?" Kuu asked worriedly, they were just in the theatre celebrating the success of their movie and then suddenly his son said his goodbye and now Kyoko's condition is critical.
"I just arrived Kuu, Himuro come let's go inside."
Himuro kept his silence but whispered to Saena, "You will explain everything later."
Cast and crew of Sakura Love including Lory are patiently waiting in the waiting room for any updates regarding Kyoko's surgery, since they were told of what happened to Kyoko they immediately rushed to the hospital instead of staying in a hotel for their movie after party celebration. Saena stayed inside the hospital chapel praying for her daughter's life.
"I know I am a terrible mother to her, I did nothing but made her cry but I only did those things because I don't want her to suffer the same way I did. I love her and I will be a better mother for her if she will make it through this." Saena prayed and broke down into tears.
Himuro who is standing at the entrance of the chapel leaning at the door just looking at Saena silently.
"Breaking news, leading actress in the hit movie Sakura Love Mogami Kyoko got into accident early tonight minutes after the movie premier ended. Family, friends and crew of Sakura Love are patiently waiting for an update in her status in the hospital she was brought to. Fans of Mogami Kyoko are now offering prayers and lighting candles for her speedy recovery. For another breaking news, Japan's number 1 actor Tsuruga Ren flied to America after the movie premier of Sakura Love to try his acting prowess in Hollywood. Fans and colleagues are shocked at his sudden announcement at the end of his movie premier."
"Ren will be devastated after hearing this." Yashiro said burying his head in his hands.
"You should tell him as soon as possible, he's the one Kyoko needs now." Lory said looking at the door of the operating room.
"I'll go to him as soon as I finish my tasks here in Japan."
"How is Kuu reacting to this?" Lory asked in concern, his best friend Kuu must be depressed right now.
"I don't know I haven't seen him since we all came here." Yashiro answered looking up to Lory.
"Kuu, Kyoko's now out of the critical stage the operation is a success. She's being transferred now to the ICU." Yashiro said who found him at the rooftop.
"ICU why, I thought she was out of the critical stage?" Kuu said as he walks towards Yashiro.
"She's in a coma, but the doctors aren't sure yet since the anesthesia are not yet worn off of her body. They are just putting her there for precaution."
"Her mother's in there with her now." Lory said when he saw Kuu and Yashiro.
"What do you think will happen next after this? Kyoko suffered enough already."
"I know Kuu but you must keep it together for her, for your daughter."
Kuu slumps on one of the chairs outside the ICU room burying his head in his hands.
Himuro is standing outside the hospital smoking a cigarette as he remembers the conversation he had with Saena after her prayers at the chapel.
"Why did you keep her from me?"
"You hurt me with what you did Himuro, it was unforgivable." Saena said looking blankly at her hands.
"I know I hurt you but you betrayed my trust as well when you had an affair with Kuu." Himuro said with a little anger, the memories of their past together still haunts him up to this day.
"I was about to end it with him that night…but you did not give me a chance because of what you did."
"Then why are you letting our daughter suffer with your lie? Didn't you know you are hurting her and Ren like what happened with us?"
"Ren is Kuu's son, it was never my intention to lie and hurt them both but I want to take revenge on Kuu by hurting him and his son."
"You are sick Saena, and our daughter will never forgive you for what you did." Himuro said and left Saena alone.
Due to commitments in America Kuu was forced to leave the following day. Saena and Sho are vigilant in visiting Kyoko every day for two weeks already since the accident who is yet to wake up from her deep slumber.
"How is she when will she wake up?" Asked Sho to Kyoko's doctor who just finished in his daily check-up of Kyoko.
"She's getting better though I can't say when she'll wake."
"But aren't you her doctor? Why can't you answer a simple question such as when she'll wake up?" Sho snarled he's frustrated at Kyoko's slow progress and the doctor not giving enough answers.
"Stop that Sho, he's doing his job well. He's only a human being not a God." Shoko said almost pleading for Sho is already causing a scene outside the ICU room.
Sho lets go of the doctor and storms away, "Damn!"
"I'm sorry for his behavior." Shoko said bowing before the doctor.
"It's fine, I can understand his frustration." The doctor said and walked away.
Inside the private ICU room of Kyoko, Kyoko's body is connected to various machines and monitors that shows her health progress. Different tubes are also connected to her body and her head is wrapped in a bandage, even her breathing is assisted by a breathing machine.
"Please wake up daughter, please." Saena pleaded holding her daughter's hand that is not injected with tubes.
Kyoko's monitors suddenly beeped and Kyoko thrashed in her bed.
"What's happening, nurses doctors!" Saena cried and pressed the bell button to call the nurses and doctors.
"Wait, why are you all rushing inside?" Sho asked worriedly when he saw a team of nurses and doctors rushed inside Kyoko's room.
"Please stay outside for a while ma'am while we tend to your daughter." A nurse said to Saena moving her away from Kyoko.
"But, my daughter…"
Despite the nurses stopping him, Sho managed to enter Kyoko's room. Reaching inside Kyoko's room, he saw the medical team working hard on Kyoko who is having a convulsion.
"Kyoko…"
"Please stay outside and wait for further developments." The nurse pleaded with Saena and Sho.
Sho and Saena reluctantly go outside of the room.
"We are losing her doctor." A nurse who is monitoring Kyoko's status on the monitor said.
"No, we won't lose her, prepare the epinephrine shot and the defiblirator machine."
After 30 minutes that seems like a lifetime for Saena and Sho, the doctor finally went out of Kyoko's room.
"How is she?" Saena asked worriedly.
"She's stable now don't worry she is a fighter she doesn't want to go yet."
Both Sho and Saena breathed a sigh of relief with what the doctor told them.
The following day, Sho was left alone inside Kyoko's room for he asked Saena to buy food for herself for she wasn't eating properly since the accident.
"Hey Kyoko, you know I miss our banter already. It's not the same without you bickering against me. So wake up alright?" Sho said softly to Kyoko and tucked a stray strand of her hair.
Slowly Kyoko stirred from her long slumber. She squinted her eyes for it is still adjusting to the light of the room, after blinking a few times she slowly moved her fingers and said with a rasped tone of voice,
"Sho…"
"Ky-Kyoko you're finally awake." Sho said happily and held Kyoko's hand.
"My body…my head hurts…"
"I'll call the doctor…" Sho said and rushed to fetch Kyoko's doctor.
The doctor Sho fetched checked on Kyoko's all over prognosis.
"Is there anything hurting aside from your head and legs?"
"No, how long have I been in coma?"
"Two weeks, I will be checking you every now and then and there is another doctor who will check up on you, a psychiatrist to check your mental health."
"Breaking news, Mogami Kyoko is finally awake after two weeks of being in coma. For further updates regarding Mogami Kyoko, tune in to our channel."
Kyoko underwent various brain scans with her psychiatrist to check her brain for damages, after her scans she underwent a one on one consultation with her psychiatrist.
"Kyoko san, your CT scan shows that the surgery done to remove the hematoma in your brain is a success. Now I will ask you some questions or do you want us to do this for another time?" The psychiatrist asked.
"its fine I am not yet tired." Kyoko said smiling a little.
"Alright then, are there any missing gaps in your memory?" The psychiatrist asked while holding Kyoko's medical chart and a pen.
"Missing gaps?"
"Yes, like something missing in your mind."
Kyoko closed her eyes and though about it. "I don't know but there is always a shadow in my mind and every time I try to remember who that shadow is my brain hurts so much."
The psychiatrist writes about what Kyoko said in her chart, "I see, it will be best if you will not think much about it and just let the memory come back to you in its own time."
Kyoko nodded.
"How is my daughter?" Saena asked to Kyoko's psychiatrist who called for her.
"She's fine although she's suffering from selective amnesia."
"What do you mean?" Saena asked worriedly.
"There are some memory of hers she doesn't remember. This case usually happens when a person prior to an accident has a painful memory. It is best if you will not force the memory into her and let her remember it on her own."
After another month of staying in the hospital for her rehabilitation, Kyoko was finally cleared to go by the hospital after she can walk properly again. Although Sawara and Lory are adamant in allowing Kyoko to return to work again, her commitments are already demanding her talent. Sho is always with Kyoko whenever he is not busy with his work and Saena is staying with Kyoko in her apartment to take care of her, while Himuro is still her driver whose lips are tightly shut regarding his real relationship with her.
"There you are, how is your interview?" Sho asked wrapping his arm around Kyoko's shoulder.
"It's alright, the host is kind."
"That's good, you want to join me for dinner at my place?"
"Of course, I would love to." Kyoko said smiling at her boyfriend Sho.
