Valerie had just hopped off of the city bus and was preparing herself for a long walk home when she felt her wrist watch buzz. Without a moments hesitation, she hurried into the closest alley where she could summon her suit.

Except... while she was dressed in red and climbing higher on her hover board, she happened to look down and notice a certain ghost boy through her visor, hanging around her bus stop invisibly.

The ghost boy she had a truce with- the ghost boy she had recently started hanging out with, who was actually, kind of, really cute.

The ghost boy who was standing there, invisible, wearing a suit (a nice one, not a hazmat suit like he usually wore), and holding a single flower.

She dropped down behind him, picking up her hover board.

"Phantom," she said, alerting him of her presence. When they were face to face, he shed his invisibility and looked away, a bit green in his cheeks. She hesitated and asked, "What are you doing?"

"Sorry, I was waiting for you but I got nervous, so..." He held out the flower, a beautiful yellow carnation, whose petals each bled into a lovely orange.

She felt hot in the face and her heart flutter as she realised what he was doing. "Danny," she said, softly.

He shook his head, working himself up to say it. "I know we're just starting to be friends and I don't want to ruin that. But I also know that in another life we were interested in eachother, and I love you in this life too. There's so much I haven't told you that you deserve to know and I want to tell you. I don't know how you're going to feel when you know but-" He stopped suddenly, realising he was rambling, but Valerie was soaking in his every word. "I think you're incredible," he said slowly, honestly, as if they were the only true words he had ever spoken. "And I want to share every day with you."

"But, you're a ghost," she said, numbly. She finally accepted the flower, preffering to look at it than at Danny, running her thumbs over the outer petals.

"Uh, um," he mumbled, becoming nervous again. "That's the thing. I'm... not."

"What?" she breathed

"I'm half ghost," he offered, knowing she knew what that meant.

Valerie read his face, scanning it over for each and every detail, her face betraying her devestation when she recognized him. "Danny?" she said. Her heart strained, knowing that it was so obvious now, fully realising all of the implications it meant. That Danny, the sweet boy she had never stopped loving, was half dead. That he was in danger every day of his life. That she used to hunt him, but he loved her anyway.

He squeezed his eyes shut. "I had so many chances to tell you but I never did. I'm so sorry, Val. I didn't mean to play with your emotions like that, I just wasn't ready."

"No, I just..." Valerie started. She persed her lips. Holding the carnation in one hand, she grabbed Danny's hand with her other. In another life, we were interested in eachother. "I think I love you in this life, too."
