Chapter 2: What about Marvin's eyes?
Two years had passed since Marvin's birth and Aladdin's kingdom was thriving as Christmas was coming and Aladdin's workers were working on making gifts for all of the citizens, including toys for the children. Z9 and Tyranhee had decided to take Marvin to view the toy factory as a special treat. Skippy, a 7-year-old white bunny, was pushing his turtle friend Toby of the same age across the snowy path at top speed whilst ringing a small but loud bell. Gumball, a 12-year-old blue cat and his fish step-brother Darwin (10) were having a snowball fight whilst their young sister Anais (4) was making snow angels with her stuffed donkey, Daisy. Babs, Shirley, Mary and Fife (16) were jumping around the snow and putting up flyers for their ultimate light show where they would be making their lights appear in the shapes of animals for one night only.
Z9 and Tyranhee smiled at the wonderful sight of children playing as their now 2-year-old son, Marvin, was running around in the snow firing a plastic gun into the air. "Boom! Boom! Boom!" He yelled, firing the pistol in all directions as Tyranhee's eyes filled up with cuteness. Marvin was dressed in a red woolly jumper with Saturn pictured on it; a small helmet much like this father's, but with a propeller coming out of it, instead of a brush; red tracksuit bottoms and green galoshes with rocket ships on either side. Marvin tripped over and landed in the snow, using his small and tubby gloved hands to break his fall. "What this mummy?" He asked, picking up the cold, powdery substance in his gloved hand.
"That is snow Marvin." Answered Tyranhee touching the melting snow in Marvin's hand.
"Snow?"
"That's right snow."
Marvin grinned and jumped up and down around the snow drifts, picking up snow and throwing it into the air, letting it fall onto his helmet and jumper. "Snow! Snow! Snow!" He laughed gleefully in his high-pitched toddler voice, his eyes glowing red with joy.
Z9 dodged a chunk of snow thrown by his son and turned to his wife. "Tyranhee, he's at it again." He groaned.
"And the problem is?" Asked Tyranhee, thinking the issue was the Z9 had just missed having snow thrown at him by a two-year-old and he just needed to be told to get a grip.
"Eyes are not supposed to glow."
"Says who?"
"Hey Z9 wait up!" Called a voice from the distance.
Z9 looked up to see Doctor Felicia, Lord Shen and Scar walking towards them in a group. "Oh no not now." He sighed, calling Marvin over and getting him to stand behind his legs until Scar, Felicia and Shen had moved on.
"Greetings Z9." Hissed Scar as he approached the tall and muscly martian.
"Greetings Scar, Felicia and Shen."
"So where is the little one, me and my friends have been dying to meet him?" Inquired Felicia
"Well uh…" Z9 began.
"Z9, are you humiliated by your own son?" Tyranhee asked offended and angry.
Z9 sighed and moved to his left, exposing his son. "Come on out Marvin." Marvin looked up at the three villains, feeling slightly nervous. "Marvin these are my friends: Scar, Felicia, and Shen." Z9 introduced, pointing to each villain as he introduced them.
"Snow." Marvin squeaked as Shen and Scar awed.
Felicia started thumping his cane into the ground for Marvin to run around. "He's a fast one." He smiled, before jumping back in pure shock, leading to Scar and Shen to stare down at Marvin and his glowing eyes in disbelief.
"Look at that!" Scar gasped.
Other characters from all around, gasping and whispering in wonder, fear and concern at what was going on with the baby martian's eyes. Z9 noticed the crowd and was drawn to take action. "It is just an allergy!" He yelled at the crowd, causing them to disperse. He then turned to his wife and whispered, "let's take him home."
Tyranhee then knelt down and picked Marvin up in her arms. "Come on Marvin, time to go home."
"But mommy toy place, toy place!" He yelled panicked, remembering that he had been promised to visit Aladdin's factory.
Tyranhee did not know what to do, she did promise her son a trip to the factory. "Ok, toy place it is." She sighed walking Marvin away from the crowd and on route to the toy factory.
Z9 quickly caught up to them as Tyranhee put Marvin back down to run around in the snow. "I swear I will personally thump and shoot the next person who makes a crack about my son's eyes!" Z9 stormed furiously.
"He's beautiful not odd, and perfect the way he is." Agreed Tyranhee as she watched Marvin run around in the snow.
"You're absolutely right." Agreed Z9. The martian then started to sing (yes, it is a musical):
Z9:
Look at my little guy, isn't he a cutie? This bouncing baby boy of mine and his name is Marvin.
He's quite a strapping martian and it's very plain dear he has your grace and style.
Tyranhee:
But he has his daddy's smile.
Z9:
Wait till he's old enough to play in the toon games. Then one day he'll help deliver gifts with Aladdin every Christmas Eve.
Suddenly Felicia, Scar and Shen popped out from a set of trees and started to join in on the song, teasing and taunting Marvin.
Felicia, Scar and Shen:
Oh, but, what about, what about, what about his gleaming eyes?
Tyranhee:
They have a healthy shine!
Felicia:
Yeah, they absolutely glow!
Scar and Shen:
What about, what about, what about his demon eyes?
Z9 and Tyranhee furiously walked away from the three villains and took Marvin into a nearby candy store and brought him a round, spiral, purple and yellow lolly pop.
Tyranhee:
Look at my little guy with his angelic grin. So cuddly and snuggly he's sharper than a pin. He's such a special martian; here's your lolly pop dear.
Tyranhee handed Marvin the lolly which he immediately dug into after jumping around her feet for it.
Tyranhee:
Don't you want to pinch his cheek, he's exquisitely unique.
Z9:
Our son is so endearing, but one thing that I'm fearing. When we start to school him, the kids may ridicule him.
Tyranhee:
Perhaps they'll ignore it, maybe learn to adore it. He has that certain spark.
A little three-year-old girl called Angelica Pickles skipped down the street and pointed at Marvin's eyes.
Angelica:
I bet those eyes glow in the dark.
Z9 immediately towered over the little blond girl with anger in his eyes. Tyranhee had to pull Z9 away and show him three fingers to remind Z9 that this little girl was only a year older than his own son. Suddenly Shen, Scar and Felicia were blocking the Martian's path again.
Scar, Felicia and Shen:
Put a cover on it! Wear a lampshade upon it! Forgive us for finding Marvin's eyes are simply blinding.
Other characters soon decided to join in the song.
Other characters:
Oh then what about, what about, what about his demon eyes?
Tyranhee:
They are a little pink
Z9:
He'll grow out of it, I think.
The other characters started to circle Marvin like a circus attraction, Marvin began to become worried and scared.
Other characters:
What about, what about, what about when Marvin grows? Will his eyes grow any dimmer, or will they start to shimmer? What about, what about, what about his demon, ever gleaming, neon shining eyes.
Yes, what about(x4)
Yes, what about Marvin's shiny eyes?
Marvin ran out of the crowd with great difficulty and then slid and tripped in the snow, still keeping grip of his half eaten and sticky lolly before climbing up and running behind his mother's legs to the other toons' laughter. Tyranhee and Z9 were annoyed and insulted by the other character's behaviour. They could tolerate three-year-old Angelica, but grown adults who should know better, this was a different story. The thing that hurt the most was that the toons called their baby son's eyes "demon".
Z9 leaped forward in fury, forcing the snow to give way beneath his armer, startling the other characters. "Enough! The show is over! Go home now, the lot of you! Shame on you, picking on a 2-year-old boy like that!" He scolded and then lead away his wife and son; only continuing on his journey for the sake of his son.
As the Martians walked off into the distance Z9 heard the sniggering of Scar behind him as the rest of the characters stood there stunned that they had been disciplined by General Z9. Z9 turned around, causing a whisp in the wind and gave Scar a fierce glare. The glare was something that Scar had never seen Z9 do in the many years they knew each other; it gave Scar a fright which shut him up.
Z9 then picked Marvin up and took him back to the candy store for a new lolly pop and a chocolate bar before continuing to the toy factory.
