Guest: Thank you for reading: I'm happy you liked the Emily story from Last year, I might consider a sequel
Also, I'm still taking suggestions for more stories.
So, today's story takes place during "11 Louds A Leapin' " Takes Ronnie Anne and a character we've not seen since like season 2 or one of the graphic novels later on. and puts them together. I do kind of wish they did more with her as a character, there's a lot of characters like that in the series, oh well. Hope you enjoy!
Story 4: What Lovely Weather for A Skateboard together
Prompt/Premise: Ronnie Anne gets a new skateboard for Christmas, and possibly a new friend.
Ronnie Anne woke up early Christmas Morning to spend some time with her mom before she had to go to work. They wondered where Bobby had gotten too, he was usually the first person down for Christmas morning. Maria hugged her daughter, and they tore into presents. Ronnie Anne saw a package that looked like a familiar shape; she tore it open and it was, yes, a new skateboard.
"Mom, thank you, thank you so much," she said.
"Merry Christmas, mi hija," Maria said.
Maria got dressed, kissed her daughter, and left to her job at Royal Woods Hospital. It was quiet in the house; Ronnie Anne went to check on Bobby and found that he wasn't even in his bed. That was strange, hopefully he didn't get stuck somewhere, again. She wanted to try out her skateboard, but snow was on the ground outside.
"Maybe the community center is open; there have go to be other kids who got gifts like skateboards and stuff who would want a place to try them out," she said to herself.
She got dressed and put her coat and boots, she grabbed a backpack and put some sneakers and her skateboard stuff inside. It was a nice Christmas day, a day that just looked like Christmas with the snow on the ground, the houses decorated with decorations, and sounds of people enjoying the day, and even some carolers. The community center was open, and it looked busy. She hoped that there wouldn't be too many people using the skateboard area. It wasn't crowded.
"Let's see what you got," she said to the skateboard.
First, she went easy on it, meaning not trying a new trick just yet. She wanted to see what if it could handle the basics before going and trying something new. While she was riding, she noticed a girl walk, she was holding a bag and looking around. She was wearing a navy skirt with a gray coat on top, she had brown curly hair with an orange head band, with matching orange earrings, white socks that went almost up to her knees and navy shoes. Ronnie Anne had seen her before, she got off her skateboard to see.
"Hey, are you alright?" She asked.
"No, I was looking for room 203," the girl said in a light voice.
"Oh, I think that's on the side of the building," Ronnie Anne said.
"Thanks," she said.
"Hey, I think I know you, are you from my class, Mrs. Johnson's fifth grade?"
"Yeah, I think we are," she said.
"My name is Ronnie Anne, what's yours?"
"Christina."
"You aren't much of a talker, are you?"
"Not-not really."
"Hey! Do you want to skateboard with me; it's more fun with some else."
"No, I don't know how to skateboard, and I don't have one."
"Hmm, I can show you, if you'd like."
Christina looked around at the dips, ramps, and the rails placed around the room. It made her more nervous that before.
"I uh, got a new volleyball for Christmas, and I wanted to play with it here," she said.
"Hmm, I have an idea," Ronnie Anne said, "You stay and let me teach you how to skateboard and I'll let you teach me how to play volleyball."
"Huh, you really mean you don't know how to play volleyball?" Christina asked, she seemed less nervous.
"Nah, I learned how to skateboard and ride a bike, can play a little basketball, but never tired volleyball," Ronnie Anne replied.
"Well, it is better than trying to find someone to play with you, randomly," Christina admitted, "Okay, you can teach me."
Ronnie Anne smiled at Christina, who smiled back.
"I uh, have to change first, give me a few minutes, alright," Christina said.
"Just promise me you'll be back," Ronnie Anne said.
"Yeah, I promise," Christina replied.
Ronnie Anne went back to practicing a few moves on the rails, while she hoped that Christina would come back. She hoped she didn't come on too strong, that always worried her. When she tried to talk to a boy in her class, she instead placed a snack cake under his seat, and he sat on it. Good thing it wasn't a chocolate one. It supposed to be what she saw as a harmless prank to get attention, but it didn't work. Just then, her phone rang.
"Bobby, where have you been?" she answered, "Are you alright?"
"Yeah, what happened was, I was looking for the perfect gift for Lori, and the only thing I could think of was myself," her older brother explained. "So, I wrapped myself in a large box, and had myself shipped to Lori's place."
"You had yourself wrapped and shipped?" Ronnie Anne questioned.
"Yeah, and I waited a really long time, then I passed out, and Lori opened it this morning; I was so hungry and thirsty," he said.
"That was a dumb plan."
"Lori liked it though."
"You really should have told us."
"Yeah, yeah, I thought Lori was going to open it sooner, I had put open immediately on the box," he explained, "That means, open right now, right?"
"Yeah, it does, I'm glad you are alright."
"Me too, and Merry Christmas!"
"Merry Christmas and thanks for the gifts."
"Ah you opened gifts with out me?"
"Mom had to work; you know."
They continued their conversation, and said they'd see each other for Christmas dinner, their mother had found time to cook. Christina walked back in the room; she was holding her bag again. She had changed into a navy tank top with navy short shorts, and black and white sneakers. She had also put her hair in a ponytail held with an orange scrunchie.
"Sorry, don't want to interrupt your call," she said.
"No worries, I just finished talking to my brother," Ronnie Anne said.
"You have a brother, that's cool, I'm an only child," Christina replied.
"Yeah, he's my older brother, he's kind goofy, but I love him."
Ronnie Anne unbuckled her helmet and placed it on Christina's head, next she too of her knee and elbow pads and put them on Christina as well. Christina knew to check the helmet and buckled to make it secure around her head. Ronnie Anne rubbed her chin to think if she forgot anything.
"I think you set now, ready to learn?" She asked.
"I think so, "Christina said, her tone went soft again.
"Don't worry, I'm not going have you try any tricks," Ronnie Anne replied.
Christina let out a breath, she was going to try it. She looked at the purple and fuchsia skateboard, it was slightly menacing to her. The first she tired to do was stand on it, it moved, and she tried to grab for something, luckily Ronnie Anne was there and able to grab her. Christina leaped off and the board rolled away.
"Sorry, I was going to say, balance is the first thing you need to work on," Ronnie Anne replied.
"Okay," she replied.
"I'll show you."
Ronnie Anne stood in front of her board and positioned her left foot forward and faced right.
"There are usually two different positions, you can stand like I am, or you can do the reverse," she said.
Christina walked over to the board and copied Ronnie Anne's position. Ronnie Anne pointed at the bolts on the skateboard and told her that she should stand behind the bolts. With some practice Christina was able to stand on the skateboard and move. She wasn't going to be as skilled as Ronnie Anne was in a about an hour-long lesson, but she did get a little step into figuring it out.
"I think you had a long enough lesson, today," Ronnie Anne said.
"Was I that bad?" Christina asked.
"Huh? No, no, I'm saying that because it's been an hour," Ronnie Anne said.
"It's been an hour? I really did lose track of time," Christina said.
"Are you ready to do some volleyball?" Ronnie Anne asked.
"Sure, could you help me find room 203?" Christina asked.
"Yeah," Ronnie Anne asked.
The two girls walked to room 203, which was a gym made just for playing volleyball and any other sport that required the use of a long net. There were some teenagers playing in there, so they chose to wait on the side bleachers until they were done, if not long.
"So, do you only have the one brother?" Christina asked.
"Uh, yep, it's just me, my mom, and my brother." Ronnie Anne replied.
"So how long have you been skateboarding?"
"Since I was eight"
"Impressive."
"You are into volleyball?"
"Yep, it wasn't my choice at first, my Mom thought it would be good for since I don't have any siblings, to have a team to bond with," Christina explained, "But I do like it."
"How long have you been playing?"
"A couple years."
When Ronnie Anne was teaching Christina how to skateboard, they had something they wanted to talk about. Well, at least it gave them focus, the small talk was a hard attempt like walking a tight rope. They were quiet for a moment, Ronnie Anne looked at her phone. Her text messages were "Merry Christmas" wishes from her relatives in Great Lakes City. She laughed at a picture.
"Look Ronnie Anne, the court's open now," Christina said.
Ronnie Anne put her phone into her bag and jumped down off the bleachers. Christina grabbed her new ball from her bag and walked down to the court.
"Are you going to take off your hoodie?" Christina asked.
"Huh?" Ronnie Anne asked.
"I'm thinking it would be easier to play without a hoodie on," she added.
She shrugged and took off her purple hoodie revealing her tank top and ran over to the other side of the court.
"Playing volleyball is fairly easy, serving the ball might the hardest part; your main objective is to make sure the ball stays in the air on your side, and not get out," Christina explained.
"Got ya, show me how to serve,"Ronnie Anne replied.
Christina held the ball in her right hand and hit it with her left and let it fly over the net and Ronnie Annie missed it.
"I should have showed you how to hit back," Christina said, "I'm sorry, I never taught anybody anything before."
Maybe, Ronnie Anne was a quick learner, she seemed to get the hang of it fairly quicky. The two girls played a game of one on one volleyball for about 50 minutes, when they got tired. They walked over to a vending machine, where the brown-haired girl bought them both a bottle of water.
"That was fun, wasn't it?" Christina asked.
"Yeah, you were a good teacher," Ronnie Anne said.
"You already knew how to play didn't you?"
Ronnie Anne's eyes darted back and forth. She rubbed the back of her neck and then frowned.
"Alright, yeah, I've played before, with some cousins; I just didn't want to be alone on Christmas," she admitted.
The other girl was quiet, she saw Ronnie Anne feeling bad about herself.
"My mom had to work, my brother was in a box at his girlfriend's house; I'm not sure you noticed, but I really don't have friends, and…"
Christina reached out and put her hand on Ronnie Anne's left shoulder. She smiled.
"It's alright, I understand, we had a great time together, and would love to hang out with you again," she said.
"Really?"
"Yeah, of course, we should get to know each other, and I would love to become friends with you."
Ronnie Anne didn't know what to do so she punched, lightly, Christina's shoulder. When she realized that she did that, she was about to apologize but Christina punched her shoulder back with a smile on her face.
"I'm still working on that," Ronnie Anne said.
Then she put on her Hoodie again. Christina put checked in her bag to make sure everything was safe and in there.
"Hey Ronnie Annie, are you hungry?" she asked.
"Huh?" Ronnie Anne questioned.
Christina put her coat on and looked at her phone.
"It's almost lunchtime and if you don't have any plans, you can come over to my house," she said.
"Sure, my Mom doesn't come home 'til late and my brother and I are going to have Christmas dinner later," Ronnie Annie said, "Your parents won't mind?"
"Nah, it's less food to store, and maybe can play some video games too."
"Hey, aren't you going to change back to your other clothes?"
"No, I'm covered in sweat, and I'm going to shower at home."
"Well, I have everything, let's go."
The two girls grabbed their bags and left the community center and walked to Christina's house. During the walk they started talking about the gifts they got for Christmas as the sun shined and reflected on the fresh snow.
