Series 2, Episode 4 ~ House of Blackmail

Camilla and Amber were in agreement as Amber fixed Camilla's hair before going down to breakfast. If Nina's gran was going to stay with them for a while, then the two girls were going to have to invest in a lot of concealer. Yes, last year involved a lot of sneaking out at night but they at least got some sleep, with the snoring freight train that was Nina's nan asleep, the girls might get no sleep at all.

Thankfully Camilla's truest love in the world was waiting for her as she sleepily wandered into the kitchen, a mug of tea in her seat with a Fabian next to it reading an update of their Uncle Abe's dig in Dahshur. "You are my favourite person in the world," Camilla muttered as she slipped into her seat next to Fabian taking the tea in both hands and taking a sip.

"That bad a night?" Fabian asked.

"I'm surprised you didn't hear the snoring?" Camilla countered.

"Mick sleeps to music..." Fabian shrugged though he had heard the snoring of Nina's Gran as he snuck past their bedroom the night before.

Nina was the next into the dining room looking extremely confused as she settled next in the seat next to Fabian sending the sleepy Camilla who was using her brother's shoulder as a head lean reading the email on the iPad with him. Nina would never say it to the twins but she was a little jealous of their bond, they always had someone to turn to no matter what. Sometimes she wished she had a sibling, though she was sure the two would be the first two to tell her everything they hated about having a sibling. "Cam?" Nina asked as she wandered through to the kitchen to help Trudy set the table.

"Hmmm?" came the sleepy response from Camilla.

"Why does Alfie's apologies to you involve the Skeleton from the Biology lab?"

"He puts on a voice and..." Camilla seemed to have fully computed the question as she sat up and looked at Nina as she wandered back through with a bowl of croissants, "wait... he didn't try to apologise to Amber with it did he?"

Nina shook her head with a smile, "I managed to talk him out of it."

Camilla let out a breath of relief, good the last thing that would give him a chance was the apology dance Alfie made up.

Camilla was at her locker when Victor came racing through the corridors of the school, nodding as he passed her before heading to Mr Sweets office. Camilla frowned, she hadn't seen Victor this excited... well ever. Camilla quickly closed her locker and snuck into the girl's toilets, she wanted to know what made him so happy.

"Motus..." she whispered the one and only spell she knew off the top of her head and the only spell in her grimoire, feeling a small build of wind around her fingers which she pushed towards the loose tile that let you spy into Sweeties office, after making sure she was alone in the bathroom, grinning as it fell off the wall with a slight clatter. Putting her eye to the peephole she looked, suppressing a laugh as the shock of Victor barging into the office caused Mr Sweet to drop his biscuit into his tea.

"Oh, Victor!" the man actually sounded a little heartbroken as he looked down at the teacup, before raising the half of his biscuit that was still in his hand towards the man as if that would magically help.

"The commission for ancient treasures and artefacts." Victor started causing Camilla to cock her head as she recognised the name from somewhere, "the man in charge is a friend of yours is he not?" Victor asked the man.

"Gustav Ziestack is more of an old college," Mr Sweet argued, "The Rutter twins probably have a better relationship with him than I do,"

It took everything in Camilla not to audibly groan as she heard Gustav Ziestack's name. the man was fine, but she found him a little pompous which was no fault of his own. He had one of the largest and most detailed collections of Artifacts in the UK and her family had added a lot to his Egyptian collection. The girl had sat through too many of his fancy dinners as he and his investors tried to win over the Rutters so they could be the ones to show off their finds – why Camilla and Fabian had to go to the fancy schmoozy parties she'd never understand. Ziestack recently took the Rutter's on as one of the lead investors for the Egyptian section of his collection because half of it was their finds anyway – the joys of having a large family who had similar hobbies.

"why do you ask?" Mr Sweets question brought Camilla back to the focus at hand. Victor placed a bit of parchment down on the headteacher's desk rather forcefully as Sweetie licked the chocolate off his fingers before looking at the parchment. "Secure the exhibition. Find the book of Isis." Mr Sweet read from the paper, causing another frown to appear on Camilla's face. Why would Victor need a book from their Deity? "an anonymous note?" Sweetie asked but was ignored by Victor.

"Your friend Gustav is looking for a venue to host the Treasures of Egypt exhibition," Victor explained, "Call him and convince him to host it here! We can use the Twins if necessary, to persuade him!"

"What?!" Sweetie asked sounding disapproving.

"Secure the exhibition! Find the book of Isis!" Victor pointed to the words on the parchment.

"Victor I want nothing more to do with this!" Sweetie argued.

"Call him!" Victor demanded holding the phone out to the headteacher. "I need that book." He added softly.

Camilla didn't need to see anything more; she quickly pushed the tile back onto the wall and slipped from the bathroom. The thing that was causing Camilla the most confusion was she had never heard of the Treasures of Egypt exhibition, something about it felt very wrong but she didn't really understand why.

Thankfully class provided a great distraction, Fabian and Nina whispering to one another as they walked towards it. "Fabian!" Camilla called causing not only them but other students to turn around as she raced towards them, "none of you are called Fabian, what the hell?" she muttered to students as she passed until she reached her brother, "I need to pick your brain about something!"

"Yeah what do you need my help with?" Fabian asked as they rounded the corner to Mrs Andrew's class, all of them stopping talking as they saw Jerome standing a little way into the room holding a picture close to his chest.

"Is that a photo?" Mick asked the boy, his arm around Mara who was looking at Jerome strangely.

"what photo?" Jerome asked trying to pull off innocence but failing.

"Well, the one your holding and I'm pointing too!" Mick joked, causing Fabian to laugh as the trio moved into the room Camilla staying back as she watched the situation with a slight smirk.

"This is a picture of my girlfriend!" Jerome quickly said looking to Mick.

"you have a girlfriend?" Mara said sounding almost jealous as Alfie and Mick laughed at the boy's comment.

Camilla frowned at Mara's comment, the girl was taken she had no reason to be jealous, "yeah, I..." Jerome looked to Camilla as something clicked in his head and he dramatically turned to Mara again, "she dumped me like a shoe," Camilla couldn't fight the smirk that appeared on her face and the head shake as she realised Jerome's fake story. "I can't stand the sight of her..." with that he tore the photo in half and Camilla decided to play along, mainly because the look on Mara's face was one she was more than happy to see. The girl wasn't happy without Mick and Camilla had to deal with that drama all last year, now she has the boy she wants another. Oh girl, grow up!

"Oh, ouch Jerry boy, I hope that isn't a picture of me," Camilla spoke up from the doorway of the classroom as she walked in and over to the boy who was stood by her desk causing all heads to turn her way and laughs to ring out all round. Jerome sent Camilla a grateful smile as conversion moved past Jerome's weird outburst. The thing that caused her the most joy was the glare sent her way by Mara – clearly, their little stunt last year of fake dating got to the girl and Camilla didn't hate the idea she had gotten under Mara's skin.

Alfie and Jerome settled in their seats behind Amber and Camilla and Camilla turned to look at them with a smile.

"How did you know I was lying?" Jerome instantly hissed to the girl.

"When you lie, you look the person in the eye J, want to tell me the truth?" Camilla asked causing the boy to let out a sigh.

"I have a feeling you'll find out sooner than I would like," Jerome honestly told his friends as he ran his hands through his hair in worry. "Why did you play along?"

"Meh, what's life without a little fun?" Camilla shrugged causing Alfie to laugh and Jerome to smile brightly at Camilla. No matter what she always seemed to be on his side, he didn't understand what he had done to deserve her, but he wasn't going to complain about it. Life with Camilla by your side was never boring and she would always find the best in you, something very few people could 100% claim about themselves.

Mrs Andrew's class went on and on to the point Camilla almost forgot about her question to Fabian about the Treasures of Egypt exhibition she had never heard off. Alfie and Jerome escorted Camilla arm in arm out of the classroom to see a crowd of people looking at a photo of Jerome in a dames costume from some panto a few years ago, circling them all was a girl who was handing out more and more pictures of baby Jerome, Camilla getting at least three from her – all of which she instantly put into her bag so Jerome wouldn't take them. "Here we have my brother, Jerome, sitting on his potty!"

Camilla couldn't help herself as she let out a rather loud exclaimed of, "This might be my new favourite day ever... A mini Clark, thank you Ra!" of course the only person to fully understand her was Fabian but the rest of Anubis house who she and Alfie had buddied up with all chuckled.

"Poppy!" Jerome screamed as he took in the scene.

"Oh, hi Gerbil, do you remember the time you dressed up as a girl?" she asked innocently.

"They made me do it!" Jerome pointedly told Alfie and Camilla at first before he directed his shouts to the rest of the year, "they made me do it. It was a school play!" Camilla was smiling but she wasn't laughing she was watching the siblings with a confused gaze. She got what she and Fabian had was unique to them but the Dynamic between Poppy and Jerome seemed off... as if Poppy was shouting for any attention from a bother who either didn't know how to be a big brother or didn't want to acknowledge his sister. It means this was the first they were all hearing of Poppy and Alfie and Camilla spent 80% of their lives with Jerome.

"Why didn't you tell us you had a little sister?" Camilla asked softly but Jerome heard her, she knew he would.

"That's because I refuse to acknowledge she exists!" Jerome hissed towards Camilla, who watched as Poppy's face fell for a slight second before her makes of indifference it seemed both Clarks had perfected appeared. From behind her she felt Fabian grab her hand and squeeze it, it was a small reminder but one she needed that no matter how much this dynamic hurt her she wasn't in it. She had a big brother who did acknowledge she existed.

It was in that moment Jerome saw the emotions flit across Camilla's face before one of determination appeared and he knew whatever was happening between he and Poppy was about to change forever or so help Camilla's determination it was. Instead of mulling over what he saw on Camilla's face, he turned to his sister, "take it down now!"

"No chance!" Poppy argued but she forgot the number one rule of being a little sister... never let your brother get his hands on your bag. Poppy went to move off and Jerome caught her bag, so it stayed with him as she walked away. "Get off!"

Unsurprising to the Rutter's, Fabian leaning his chin on Camilla's shoulder as many a flashback of them having very similar arguments but in the lower school came to all the Anubis house residents. Jerome started to search through her bag for something important too her, "Do the crime, do the time!" he argued as he took her phone and handed her back her bag.

"Jerome!" Mara tried to shout at him, "why do you have to be so mean?"

"Oh, you can clearly tell someone is an only child" Camilla spoke pretending to talk to Alfie and Fabian before she turned to Mara with her arms crossed, Fabian seeing the ring on her hand flash dangerously as Mara's comments started to flare Camilla's temper, "this is just character building that happens with siblings Mara, butt out," Camilla hissed, Fabian grabbing her hand and pulling her back as she went to step forward. Jerome pointed to Camilla in an agreement kind of way and even Fabian had to side with Camilla on this one with a nod of his head and a shrug. As an only child what Mara thought was mean was really just tame in the case of siblings. Siblings knew exactly what buttons to press and how to press them, taking Poppy's phone was very tame considering she had just handed out Jerome's baby pictures.

Fabian and Camilla were close but that just meant they were vicious when it came to arguing with one another to the point it turned nasty. This particularly happened in the summer hols. 3 months with only the other as company led to a lot of squabbles when they were younger and as they got older their 'paybacks' just got more creative – especially when the other archaeologist's on the dig were more than happy to help; this summer they managed to sneak a goat into Camilla's bedroom which caused chaos in there. The goat then became the mascot to the dig ad by the time the twins left there was a weekly competition for whoever could take the best selfie with Gary the Goat would win a chocolate bar.

"What is going on here?!" Mr Sweet shouted as he left his classroom to see a gaggle of students in the hallway. "haven't any of you got classes to go too?"

After taking Poppy's phone Jerome ripped the photo of him dressed as a Panto dame off the wall and stalked off down the hallway, indicating to the crowd around them that the show was over. Camilla turned and saw the look Alfie was giving her, if anyone could talk to Jerome right now it would be Camilla. Camilla let out a sigh at Alfie before turning and running after Jerome, expertly weaving her way around students following him as he walked into the student lounge area.

She didn't say anything as she sat herself down next to him, turning her body towards his as she watched him, knowing he had to be the first to talk. Jerome knew she was there, Camilla didn't try to hide it, but he appreciated she didn't bombard him with questions. After a moment he reached out and took her hand, the on with her ring on it, it had become an almost calming habit last year to play with her fingers and the ring and he had clearly not broken the habit this year.

"I didn't mean what I said..." Jerome spoke softly knowing Camilla was listening, "that I didn't want to acknowledge Poppy existed... it's just I've built a reputation of who I am here, and when I'm at home with her..."

"You are someone else?" Camilla offered.

"Kind of..." Jerome sighed glancing too the girl to see if she thought he was being stupid. Camilla, however, knew what he meant and didn't think that at all.

"You resort back to default mode around her," Camilla explained softly, "and the Jerome she knows isn't exactly the one we all know?"

"Exactly..." Jerome smiled at the girl glad she followed his thought process. "I'm not good at being a big brother, I know that I just... I don't want other people here to know it." He whispered looking down at her hand once again, "you and Fabian, your guy's friendship and bond... I'm in awe of it and I wish me and Pops could have something like that."

Camilla sent him a sad smile and shook her head at his statement, "Not all siblings are like me and Fabian, it's the downfall of being twins, J," she told him with a smile "you just need to work on it with her, being the big brother is hard, I know I don't take Fabian's life easy." This caused Jerome to snort, though a smile grew on his face – that was the understatement of the year, Camilla made no one who cared about her's life.

"Will you help me? Be a better sibling to her?" Jerome asked after a moments silence between them.

Camilla placed her other hand on Jerome's and smiled, "like you even had to ask, though I still am in total agreement you did the right thing with the phone. If Fabian shared our baby photos about I'd have done something way worse."

This caused a genuine laugh to come from Jerome, one of those throw your head back genuine ones and with that, he pulled Camilla's legs over his lap and the two got to talking, just about anything and everything. Both having realised they hadn't really spoken since term started so an update on their summers was needed, Jerome loving the fact the Rutter's dig adopted a goat and called it Gary.

"God! By the time we were packing to leave they were all threatening to feed people to Gary if they stole each other's pens and shoes..." Camilla laughed as Jerome looked through the photos of her, Fabian and this goat by the pyramids.

"Can I send me this?" he asked turning her phone around to show her and the goat together. Camilla was looking at someone off-screen (probably Fabian), a red neckerchief around her neck, a white spaghetti strap top on with one of Fabian's blue and white flannel shirts hanging off the shoulder closest to the camera, her sable fedora hat falling off her head, eyes squinting as she laughed as the goat – which had a matching neckerchief on licked her cheek.

"Sure why?" Camilla shrugged as she watched Jerome text himself the picture.

"It's going to be your contacts picture," Jerome explained, "a lovely picture of Milly and Gary whenever you call." He laughed causing Camilla to laugh along with him.

"You're not showing him the goat pictures, are you?" Fabian asked as he and Nina wandered in heading over to the tea and coffee station.

"Of course, I am!" Camilla told her brother before sending him a pouty face causing a sigh as he turned to make a cup of tea for Camilla, smiling as he saw her look towards Jerome victoriously.

"Goat what Goat?" Patricia asked as she slumped back in a chair across the room.

"Didn't you get updated on the new Rutter?" Jerome teased as Fabian handed Camilla her tea before going back to Nina. "They adopted a Goat while on a dig."

"His name is Gary..." Fabian and Camilla spoke as one causing laughs all round.

Amber had missed the entire conversation as she was looking in a mirror at her face. The red splotches had died down a lot so it could be passed off as she had gone a bit heavy on the blush that was all. "Are you sure I'm looking better?" Amber asked around at the Anubis house.

"Of course..." Nina nodded to the girl.

"Yes!" Mara and Fabian said loudly. Mara having sent Camilla glares since the moment she sat down with Mick; Camilla shrugged it off as the girl being annoyed Camilla told her off again loudly in front of their peers.

"How many more times?" Patricia groaned.

Thankfully a distraction came in the form of an out of breath Alfie racing into the room, "Trudy clearing out the attic!" he informed them all.

"What?" Nina asked sharply.

"I just saw her junking out the old dollhouse..." Alfie explained.

"No!" Amber got to her feet instantly. "I was going to ask for that!" Camilla had never seen Amber move for fast in her life, and in heels too? The girl was impressive. Within seconds of her screaming the blonde was out the door, clearly off to try to save her dolls house. Camilla saw Nina and Fabian whispering to one another, and Camilla knew it was the cup of Ankh related but before she could try deciphering what they were saying Alfie knelt down behind the couch she and Jerome were on.

"Camilla, I need Amber advice." He said looking too her.

"Never a good sentence," Jerome mumbled causing Camilla to hit him good-naturedly before turning to Alfie.

"I actually stole back the doll's house to give her it as a gift? Do you think that's a boyfriend approved gift?" he asked softly.

"You're tricking her into thinking it's gone so you can claim you stole it back?" Camilla summarised causing a smile to appear on his face, and Camilla to nod. "she will love it."

"Are you sure it will work though?" Alfie asked sounding paranoid, which Camilla understood... none of his gifts thus far had gone down well, but from what she hard-learned from Amber someone 'stealing her a dollhouse' hadn't been done before gift wise. Alfie was going to be fine.

"I've lived with the girl for a year, it will work," Camilla reassured him. Alfie smiled and threw himself into the seat next to them as Jerome showed him the goat pictures.

Camilla missed Victor and Mr Sweet sowing Gustav around the school, she and Jerome had left to go grab snacks for everyone from the vending machines and by the time they were going to come back they had overheard them all questioning why he kept Poppy a secret. Camilla knew going back to study hall was a bad idea so took the boys hand and dragged him out the school to the playing field where the too had a chocolate feast under one of the trees laughing at a game going on. Fabian was quick to inform her however of the collector's visit as they settled down on one of the couches in the living room.

"Who would have thought we'd be seeing Gustav Ziestack in school, least we arent having to dress up for one of his fancy parties," Fabian muttered as he watched Camilla's eyes light up as if remembering something.

"Oh yes!" She pointed too Fabian, "have you ever heard of his Treasures of Egypt exhibition? I know of his pharaohs of old one, and his Tut one but this I've never heard off."

Fabian frowned a little as if trying to remember if he had heard it, "I don't recall him saying anything, but he was talking about a new exhibition last party of his – I don't think you'd remember that was the party you got drunk on Champagne by accident and thought you could walk on water," the dismissive last comment caused Camilla to smile, she did remember parts of that party. "maybe this is the new one he was talking about then?"

"Maybe..." she mumbled.

"Do I want to know why?" Fabian asked softly.

"If the information becomes relevant then I'll tell you," Camilla smiled at him, "we don't want to worry Nina and I know you'll tell her," this caused Fabian to splutter a little because they both knew it wasn't exactly true. If Camilla asked him to keep a secret he would up until the time if her life was in danger he would spill.

"What are you laughing at Cam?" Nina's voice came from the dining-room door, the twins looking round to see a smiling Nina looking at them.

"Nothing... just reminiscing with Fabian about our favourite times with Gustav Ziestack," Camilla told her as she got up from the couch, it was their turn to lay the table for dinner, "did you know I once got soo drunk at one of his parties that I thought I could walk on water? Or the time that Fabian was too tired one party he fell asleep under the buffet table and we actually left without him! I mean he was like 4 but still... " she told Nina as she wandered over too her. Fabian literally facepalming as his sister walked away.
