Series 2, Episode 7 ~ House of Myths

The searing pain Camilla had felt in the dream was still there when she woke up the next day. The moment she woke up she glanced down at her wrist and her eyes widened. Where the spirit had grabbed her Camilla now had an Anubis jackal head tattoo on her wrist. She had been branded by a bloody spirit, twice in a week she had been forced to have a tattoo she didn't want – though the feather of Ma'at/Thoth tattoo behind her ear was subtle, more of a brand a white outline of a feather there than an actual tattoo, but it was small and if you didn't know it was there you wouldn't know – this one was black and blunt and totally not something she would have chosen!

Nina didn't seem to wake up in the same pain, in fact, the girl was still fast asleep when Camilla glanced over at the camp bed. Camilla needed to talk to her and now, she was branded and the words of the spirit were ringing through her head, 'Two lives were now on the line,' that meant Camilla had just signed herself up for death. Fun.

Throwing anything she could reach at Nina – not wanting to leave the cocoon cosiness of her bed just yet – it took three teddy bears and an actual pillow in the American's direction before she groaned and woke up, sitting up and looking to Camilla groggily. Camilla lifted her wrist to show Nina the symbol that now was emblazed there, causing Nina's hand to go to her shoulder where the spirit had touched her. Holding their breath's, the two girls watched as Nina lifted up her PJ top's sleeve to reveal the same identical mark as Camilla's. Nina rubbing away furiously at it as if it was some stick-on tattoo but both of them knew it was more. Things were getting very Sibunay around here and too quickly for Camilla's liking.

Nina made Camilla swear not to say anything to Fabian about the mark, not until she could talk to him about the dream. Camilla wasn't happy about that but as long as Nina told Fabian she'd keep quiet for now. Trying to hide her new tattoo, however, was the issue; she tried make-up but it wouldn't work so she had to resort to a few scrunchies of Ambers because she refused to walk around with a million bracelets on her wrists. Fabian found the whole thing weird of course but didn't say anything to his sister through breakfast. Camilla finally saw Fabiana in the hallways of school and meandered over to them, hearing the end of Nina's sentence.

"She was taunting us and..." Nina trailed off as Camilla came up beside her.

"She bloody branded us!" Camilla hissed too her brother, pushing the scrunchies up to show him the mark as Nina sighed and lifted her sleeve again to show him her mark too.

Fabian grabbed his sister's wrist to examine the mark closer, "What is that?" he asked the two girls.

"she said to ask the one who knows," Nina explained.

Though Camilla looked around as she heard footsteps seeing Victor at the end of the hallway, who of course made a beeline towards them – he always suspected them of being up to something. The man, however, paused as he took in the Marks on Camilla and Nina's arms and Camilla saw his eyes widen in worry before he glanced at her. Whatever the marks where they weren't a good sign. Of course, she couldn't ask Victor what they meant then and there, they both had character's they had to play in school so she wasn't surprised as his face fell back into his disapproving look.

"What is that on your arm, please?" he asked the girls, looking more to Nina who had pulled down her sleeve. Camilla knowing full well the man had seen what she had on her wrist. "roll up your sleeve," he demanded of the American girl.

Nina glanced to Camilla and Fabian before she rolled her sleeve up to show him the mark, stuttering something about it could be washed off or something, Camilla wasn't sure she was watching Victor who looked horrified, and then as he glanced to Camilla a look of worry appeared on his face again. He defiantly knew what the tattoo meant and from his expression and the words of the spirit, Camilla knew it wasn't a good thing.

"I hope for your sake that it does," Victor told the American girl, "don't let me see it again..." he told her before he turned, his hand running over his jaw as he turned back to look at them before he walked down the corridor.

"What if Victor's the one who knows?" Nina asked the twins the moment Victor was out of sight.

"It's not like we can ask him..." Fabian mumbled glancing to Camilla who nodded her head once subtly. Nina and Fabian couldn't ask him but Camilla could – the slight issue being she didn't have a magic class that day.

The serious tone was getting to Camilla who turned around to see some boys from Poppy's year. Poppy had come to her about a boy in her house Evan who had moved over from New Zealand. He was quiet and kept himself to himself, but according to the girl he was magical if you gave him a piano. She had pointed him out to Camilla during their picnic lunch at the start of the week (supposedly she had asked Evan to join them because she knew Camilla wouldn't be opposed to two little siblings, the boy said no), asking if the girl could keep an eye out on him during school as she swore he was getting picked on.

It didn't take long for Camilla to realise what Poppy said was true. The boy was lanky, with sandy brown hair, rather scruffy clothes and large glasses which he kept having to push up his nose but because his hands where always full of papers in order for him to do so he had to make some funny faces. Camilla had introduced herself to him with a smile and a white chocolate chocolate bar – she didn't like them so it be a waste if someone didn't eat it – which she was rewarded with a timid smile from the boy. Since then she had kept an eye out for him, and right now she saw him getting pushed to a locker and his sheet music going everywhere.

Fabian followed Camilla's gaze once he realised she had stopped paying attention to him and Nina. "Oh Cam..." he whispered as he realised what had distracted her. With Camilla being introduced to Evan that meant Fabian was too. He felt for the boy, he reminded him a lot of himself or what he might have been like in lower school if Camilla hadn't been abashedly herself and pulling Fabian long for the ride to force him to make friends. During the week the twins (and Poppy) would make a habit of sitting near Evan, not bothering him but just being there for him. Fabian had even had a whole conversation about music with him, causing the boy to always smile whenever he saw Camilla and Fabian and even being brave enough to say hi to them both the day before. Fabian had then gone to Mrs Andrews and said he'd apply for the big sibling program but only if he could have Evan as his sibling. He had grown fond of the quiet boy and he knew he'd be a better fit with him than Camilla would who was close to just unofficially adopting him whether he liked it or not.

"They're making fun of him, again, and no one is doing anything about it. Again." Camilla countered as she felt Fabian grab hold of her arm to stop her from charging down the hallway. "someone has to step in, and if no one else will, I will." Camilla told him as the lights in the hallway started to flicker.

Fabian glance at the scene and too his sister, the kids needed stopped yes, but they didn't need mentally scared to death like Camilla might actually do. Nina watching them with a curious gaze, she too had been told about Evan but she had only ever seen him as he passed Fabian, the twins didn't want to push too many people on him at once. It was a miracle he had let them in so fast, "Cam, I get it, it's unfair," Fabian whispered to Camilla "We'll go to Sweetie. They are like twice his size, and you're not in the right state to be dealing with this by the way." Fabian pointedly added looking to the lights causing Camilla to glare at him but take a deep breath to calm herself down. When the lights stopped flickering, Fabian let her arm go, "Going to the teachers is the best option," he tried to reason with her which caused a scoff from Camilla who simply handed her bag to Nina.

"I'm going to beat them up, I'll be right back!" with that she turned on her heel and stormed down the hall.

"Camilla no!" Fabian shouted.

Camilla turned round to him and shouted back, "Fabian, YES!"

When Camilla said she was going to beat them up she didn't really mean it, within moments of her arriving in the sea of lower school students who were laughing, she had grabbed the arm of the main boy in charge of the bulling ring and was holding it behind his back in an uncomfortable way but nothing serious. The laughter immediately stopped as they all took in the girl; everyone from their year knew who she was because along with Jerome Clark, Camilla-Anne Rutter had made quite the name for herself at the school.

"now, do you know what I hate most about bullies? They never pick on someone their own size..." she spoke to them all, with a glare. "Evan is not to be touched; you hear me? If I hear he has... well I have two Clarks and a bother who will be more than happy to help me reap revenge," Camilla smiled and looked at her little sister who was looking up at Camilla in awe, "isn't that right Popsicle?"

"oh defiantly."

Camilla let go of the boy she was holding and within seconds the crowd had disappeared, leaving Poppy and Camilla to help Evan to collect his things.

"T-T-Thank-k Y-you..." Evan stuttered clearly still shook up over the whole thing.

Camilla shrugged and messed his hair up, "your family, kiddo, we look out for one another," Poppy turned to Camilla with a surprised look and Evan's eyes widened almost excitedly. "didn't you hear? Fabian's bid to get you as a little brother was approved. I hope you're a fan of Egyptian stuff along with music because we Rutter's have a niche."

"H-h-how do y-y-you know?" Evan quietly asked, speaking in a way as if he didn't quite believe it was true.

"Because Camilla doesn't understand what private letters are, least not when it has my name on it," Fabian's voice came from behind Camilla causing her to put on a bright smile as she turned around to see her brother carrying her bag and blazer, sorting the last few bits of sheet music for Evan. "I hope you don't mind, Ev, that I asked for you to be my little brother..." Fabian told the boy as he handed back the papers to him, before shoving Camilla's stuff in her arms.

The small boy shook his head and smiled at them both, an expression of one where Christmas had come early for the boy on his face. "Come on bro, we have art class," Poppy told the boy, making sure to emphasis the word bro, looping her arm through his and leading him away from the two older teens. Camilla feeling Fabian throw an arm around her as they watched them leave. Poppy was going to be for Evan what Camilla was to Fabian when they were that age, someone who would drag him about and make sure he was included... Fabian could only hope Evan would be a better influence on Poppy than he could ever be on Camilla. He hasn't quite worked out how to stop her from flinging herself into trouble.

"I don't approve of how you handled that, but I understand why you did," Fabian whispered to Camilla as he turned them around.

"Oh, come on, that was totally the best opinion..." Camilla argued with him as they walked, "Poppy was ready to jump in and fight them herself, least my way no one got hurt and no one really got in trouble because we both know I get away with way more stuff now... thanks to Vicky." Fabian could only laugh at his sister, knowing she did speak some truth.

Fabian borrowed Camilla's village pass to go see their Uncle Abe with Nina, maybe he could help them out or clear things up a little he had helped last year when it came to the mystery. Camilla didn't go with them, she missed enough of her classes as it was with Magic classes.

"Do I want to know why the lower school is scared of me Milly?" Jerome's voice came from behind her locker door, causing a smile to creep onto Camilla's face as she closed the door a little to see Jerome looking at her expectantly.

"That depends," Camilla shrugged.

"On what?" Jerome's eyes squinted at her suspiciously.

"Well if you want to be associated with stopping the bullying of your new unofficial little brother," Camilla sweetly told him.

Jerome shook his head, "That Evan kid yeah?" Camilla nodded as she pulled her bag out the locker and shut the door.

"Though I don't think he will be getting harassed anymore," Camilla explained, "I claimed we'd prank anyone who would."

Jerome nodded with this idea, knowing if Camilla asked, he probably would go along with it, "how is he, my unofficial brother?"

"Oh he is Fabian's little brother, and with poppy being mine... unofficial family,"

"You are so weird sometimes," Jerome laughed.

"Its one of the many things you love about me J," Camilla grinned and the boy could only smile in agreement with that fact.

Alfie rounded the corner at that moment causing the two friends to burst out laughing as they saw the bags of pink feathers and pink material.

"Skipping lunch to go shopping?" Jerome asked the boy, as the two friends fell into step with him, "you've been spending way to much time with Amber."

Alfie rolled his eyes good-naturedly at the two, "I found my ride, and these are going to make it soo sweet!" he explained to them both lifting the bags causing more laughter. As they rounded the corner Jerome saw Poppy and pulled on her ponytail, causing her and the old school wooden plaque she had been looking at to clatter to the floor.

"Hey watch it Gerbil!" Poppy screamed at him.

Camilla paused to make sure Poppy was alright, before picking up the plaque and looking at it. What was so interesting on it that Poppy of all people was looking at it?

"Mr Sweet!" Poppy exclaimed as the man walked past the two girls, Camilla turning back round to put the plaque back onto the wall. The headteacher turned round to look at the two girls.

"Miss Rutter, is that a tattoo?" the headteacher asked in shock as he noticed the dark marking on her wrist as she put the plaque on the wall.

Camilla was instantly on the defence as she looked down at her wrist and covered it over with the scrunchies again, "Um... its eyeliner, Sir. I'll rub it off immediately"

Poppy laughed a little at Camilla's reaction causing Mr Sweet to focus back on her, "Yes eh... Poppy," he asked once he realised the younger girl was the one to talk to him.

"I think my dad might have gone to this school..." she said quietly, causing Camilla to raise her eyebrows in shock. "is there any way of finding out?"

"Well, remind me of his name," Mr Sweet kindly asked.

Poppy looked to the plaque and pointed to a name in it, "John, John Clark."

Mr Sweet's face darkened a little at the name, "eh... I'm not sure," he said carefully, "long before my time I expect. Now run along to class, please." He waved the two girls off causing Camilla to frown but she moved off with Poppy.

"I don't know about you Popsicle, but I think Sweetie knows more than he says." She muttered to the smaller girl as they walked.

Camilla sat down on her table just as Nina and Fabian wandering into the classroom, least they made it back from town okay. Camilla could only hope they got some information from Uncle Abe.

The look of 'how did it go?' was clear on her face and Fabian sighed, "Uncle Abe wasn't there, he is on some dig but Uncle Jasper is in town."

"You got to see Uncle Jasper?" Camilla said excitedly, her Uncle Jasper always used to sneak her sweets under the table whenever they were at boring dinners.

"Yeah, who now knows about our little tattoos thanks to Fabian," Nina mumbled causing Camilla to hit her brother gently. So much for subtly.

"Book of Isis," Nina gasped after a second and pointed to Fabian as she sat down on the table, "that's what Victor's looking for."

"Book of Isis?" Camilla felt Fabian's glance her way as they both knew she was Camilla deity.

"I overheard him saying that the secrets to the tears of gold and the elixir of life are in the book of Isis," Nina explained quietly to Fabian.

"The book of Isis?" Amber asked as she wandered past them and sat down next to Camilla on their table. "and why is Victor looking for it?" Nina and Fabian looked to one another unsure of how to answer, "I know you two snuck off somewhere at lunchtime," she told them before adding, "if you don't tell me I'm sure Camilla will."

Fabian and Nina looked to Camilla who shrugged and nodded, this was Sibuna territory and if Sibuna was involved that meant Amber needed to know too. "Amber should know... Sibuna and all that," Camilla argued to her brother and his girlfriend getting a nod from the blonde goddess beside her.

Before anyone else could say anything, Mrs Andrews came bustling into the classroom, "okay!" Mrs Andrews called from the front of the class, "places everyone pleases!" causing Amber and Camilla to gracefully hop off the table and slip into their chairs. The two girls having a silent agreement that this was not the end of the conversation with the two sat in front of them.

The rest of the school day went about slowly but uneventfully, with the only major development being the cameras came in for filming the bid. Camilla and Amber were lounging on Amber's bed looking online for clothes – why Camilla needed more clothes she didn't understand but Amber was Amber and you didn't argue with her. Nina came bursting into the room clearly having a lot on her mind causing the two to look up expectantly at the suddenly moody girl.

"Fabian and Joy came in while we were having dinner," Nina explained as she fell back on her bed. "looking really cosy..."

"Seriously?" Camilla asked getting a nod from Nina.

"Uh oh..." Amber mumbled.

Nina let out a frustrated grunt, "I hate feeling like this!" she told her roommates, "I just need to get over it! Don't I? I mean why should a cursey spirit stop me from dating."

"Oh, Nina..." Camilla groaned getting off Amber's bed to go comfort Nina, "least you have a dating life to worry about before we both die," both girls not realising what they said until Amber looked at them sharply.

"Cursey spirit?" she demanded of her friends, "I knew it!" she exclaimed launching a pillow at Camilla causing her to catch it easily and smile, "what other stuff arent you telling me?" she asked the pair as she joined them on Nina's bed. "is it to do with the cup? When it glowed that time? Or our favourite cluey old lady?"

Nina smiled sadly at Amber and shook her head at the last question, "Sarah's gone, she can't help us anymore."

As if to prove Nina wrong Sarah's doll's house decided to light up.

"Guys look!" Amber pointed to the dollhouse at stood at the end of his bed, "the dollhouse!"

Within seconds the girl's were on their feet looking at it. Clearly Sarah could help them beyond the grave. Though the smoke that was rapidly coming from the chimneys was not exactly helpful at the moment.

"Why is it doing that? Does it have batteries?" Amber asked innocently.

There was a rapid knocking at the door causing Nina and Camilla to jump, only Fabian, however, slipped in a look of shock falling onto his face as he took in the scene as much as he could with the smoke filling the room. "What is it doing?!"

Nina pulled the dollhouse back and saw an engraving on the back, "Guys look at this, this was Sarah's" she told them all with a fond smile.

"Sibuna!" Amber instantly said, looking at the other three, Camilla taking the girls hand and smiling before repeating the words.

"Sibuna..." Nina and Fabian said after a few seconds.

"Its Ten O'Clock!" Came Victor's shouts which instantly caused panic again as Nina and Amber tried to waft the smoke away from the dolls house.

"Camilla you have got to do something!" Fabian muttered.

Camilla turned to the doll's house and prayed to Isis for some magical intervention. Thankfully her Deity heard as words came to her mind, "Ascendit fumus Lucius Annaeus Seneca, Ascendit fumus Lucius Annaeus Seneca," Camilla started to mumble. Pointing her hand towards the smoke Fabian watching as the smoke started to gather in her hand like a small ball.

However, the magic wasn't going fast enough, Nina and Amber covered the dolls house as they heard Victor's footsteps approaching their room.

"Ascendit fumus Lucius Annaeus Seneca! Ascendit fumus Lucius Annaeus Seneca!" Camilla hissed as she glanced at the door.
