Series 2, Episode 16 ~ House of Frauds
Breakfast was the ever-dramatic day the next day. Nina glaring across the table at Joy (until Amber pushed her arm to stop), Fabian had a book in front of him reading, and Camilla was magicking food into Alfie's mouth with soft whispers of 'Motus', Jerome keeping the supply of food on Camilla's plate so use laughing as the two managed to get a roll into Alfie's mouth, the boy chewing down on it as he stood to give Camilla a high-five which she was more than happy to give. This stopped, however, the moment a sleepy new boy came into the room, this time wearing school uniform looking around as the table fell silent as they all looked his way. The boy took in the table with a small smile as he eyed all the girls, before walking around it and taking Mick's empty seat between Amber and Mara.
"Eh," Nina decided to break the silence getting to her feet, clearly thoughts of her own first day were flooding through her mind and she knew the moment the weird awkward hellos were over with Anubis house they pretty much welcomed you with open arms... with a few exceptions. The glare Patricia was giving the new boy proved that point true. "want some OJ?" she asked.
The boy gave her a bright smile, "finally someone that speaks English!" he exclaimed dramatically causing Patricia to scoff at him though his eyes were on Nina. Holding out his glass to her, "the best thing I've heard since I've gotten here," he flirted causing Camilla to smile as she watched Fabian's flummoxed expression as he watched on unsure of how to respond.
After coughing up his muffin Fabian spoke up, "when did you get here?" he asked the boy who was sat opposite Camilla, "I got a shock when I woke up this morning and you were asleep in Mick's bed."
"I can imagine!" Patricia laughed getting a dirty look from Joy and a confused look from everyone else who hadn't witnessed the interaction the day before.
The boy sighed and decided to elaborate for all the confused faces, "Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting Yacker here," he told them all as he glanced towards Patricia who shot him a dirty look, "speaking of which who do we have here?" he looked around the table as all the girl's bar Camilla who's shoulder's where shaking from laughter at the scene chimed in with their name.
"Hey, I'm Eddie," Eddie smoothly said to them all, "nobody told me English girls were so cute..." he flirted causing them all again bar Patricia and Camilla (who was enjoying the sour face on Fabian's face more than anything else) to respond back equally as flirty.
"This is a new dynamic I can't wait to see play out..." Camilla mumbled to her brother as she took in the angry looks that had settled on the boy's faces as the saw how smitten the girls were with the new guy. Causing Patricia to laugh and smile at the girl, happy someone other than her wasn't completely falling for his idiotic charms.
"So, Eddie, what made you change schools?" Nina asked Eddie polity.
"let's see," with that he started listing things on his fingers, causing Camilla to send him a disbelieving look, some of the things he stated seemed a little far fetched but she was rather enjoying this new blood causing chaos so she wasn't going to say anything, "gotten into some fights, and then I flunked a few classes, and then my old headteacher hated me because I said his daughter was cute," Eddie dramatically rolled his eyes, "but she totally was."
"Could you have done us all a favour and gone to another school in the states!" Patricia angrily said before storming out of the room causing Eddie to laugh.
"Patricia!" Joy hissed at her best friend.
"She sure knows how to make a guy feel welcome," Eddie spoke up.
"I'll go check on her, I have extra classes first anyways so it doesn't matter if I'm late," Camilla told them all as she pushed her chair out, Eddie's eyes landing on Camilla causing him to lean forward.
"I don't think I caught your name..." he flirted with her.
Camilla smiled overly sweetly, leaning forward too, before picking up an apple from the fruit bowl, "that's because I didn't throw it." She leaned back and took a bite of her apple, "if you're that desperate to know, do some research," she told him before winking and walking out the room after Patricia.
Camilla walked into the school after her magic class to see 'Donkey Day' posters up all over. She ripped one from the wall as she wandered into the student lounge, just as Jerome sidled up to her with a bright smile that she instantly knew to suspect. "what do you think then Milly?" He asked her with a bright smile.
"Donkey day? J, I can see the scam right off!" She told him with a laugh, causing his face to fall a little. Camilla sighed knowing she'd regret the words but they came out her mouth anyway, "You won't get me to sponsor you but I'll help cheer you on."
The look the crossed Jerome's eye was one she was honestly spooked by, "Can I get you in a cheer uniform?"
"Seriously?"
"Or you can pay?"
Camilla scoffed, "I'd rather suffer in the cheerleading outfit than give you my money for a fake charity." She told the boy, who realised that she wasn't budging. Jerome led the girl into the room where Camilla sat arm of one of the chairs, watching the madness of Jerome's strange plan, what the plan was for she wasn't quite sure yet.
"So is everyone signed up for a Donkey Day challenge..." Jerome called out looking around the room until his eyes landed on Patricia a smile appearing on his face, as he approached her, turning his clipboard around so she could see the events he had planned out. "Patricia... I don't see your name down. Think of the poor disadvantaged donkeys," he told her causing Camilla to burst out laughing at Jerome's words. He was laying on the guilt a little thick.
After a push from Joy, Patricia looked down the list before pointing to something on the clipboard, "okay, sign me up for the wonky-donkey..." she told Jerome who was more than happy to write her name down, before putting the bucket he was holding in her face, "it's a fiver entrance fee please."
"Eh, what's the wonky-donkey?" Joy asked as Patricia put a fiver into the bucket. At that very moment, Alfie and Amber came into the student lounge, two of their feet tied together as if they were running the three-legged race.
"Oh, My God!" Camilla said before she could stop herself trying for the sakes of her friends not to laugh at the sight of the two struggling to walk.
"eh, that is!" Patricia commented with a smile pointing to the two as they struggled to get around the couches.
"Alfie! Baby steps!" Amber said through gritted teeth.
"Hey, you two?" Patricia called from across the room, "donkey day isn't until tomorrow!"
"We're showing everybody how it's done," Alfie told her as they finally sat down on the couch next to where Camilla was, both letting out a sigh of relief as they found themselves sat.
Camilla's laugh faded as she heard Mara behind her approaching Jerome, "Eh, since when did you become so interested in the well fair of Donkeys?" she asked him, suspicion clearly heard in her tone of voice. This caused a huge dramatic eye roll from Camilla – of course, this was a huge ploy! It was Jerome its why they all loved the boy - causing a laugh from across the room, and she looked over to see Eddie watching her with an amused expression, causing her to smile back at him.
"Ever since summer break when I was 8, I saw a donkey on the beach being ridden by a sumo wrestler." Jerome quickly retorted to Mara, his eyes wandering to Camilla who was smiling over at Eddie. His comment caused laughs from Joy and Patricia, which caused him to focus back on Mara who was looking at him eyebrows raised, "I can't get it out of my head. I promised myself, one day I would save his people..." with that he walked past her and over to Camilla, breaking her attention with Eddie as he put the bucket he was using as a collection down onto the chair she was using.
"Sumo wrestler?" Camilla asked softly with a laugh.
"I panicked." Jerome laughed back, "but I have to pay back the P.I. somehow..."
"J, I could loan you the –"
Camilla was cut off by Jerome who held a hand out to stop her, "I know Mills, but I've got to do this myself. I bought him; this is my issue." Camilla let out a sigh but nodded, she understood his reasoning.
"Hey, new boy?" Jerome asked, looking up to see Eddie still watching Camilla with an expression he didn't like seeing on his face, this blunt call from Jerome causing Eddie to push off the wall he was leaning on and wander over to the pair, "Can I put your name down for a Donkey Day challenge?"
Eddie scoffed, "what about you? I see you hassling everyone else, the only person to say no was Female Rutter here and even then, she is taking part. It seems unfair you're not doing anything yourself." Jerome looked almost perplexed someone had called him out on not taking part.
"He has got a point, Jerome," Alfie pointed out quietly but they all heard him.
"Whose side are you on?" Jerome bitterly asked his friend, who simply raised his hands up in surrendered before going back to focusing on Amber and her magazine.
Eddie seemed to know the games Jerome played and turned to him with a smile, "I'll do a Donkey Challenge if you do." He told the boy.
"Okay..." Jerome agreed.
"Excellent," Eddie interrupted before the boy could pick an easy challenge for himself, "I get to pick the challenge, Donkey Dinner!" Eddie seemed almost too pleased with himself that Camilla turned to look at Patricia an idea popping into her brain, "if you can eat 3 gallons of creamed carrot, I will personally sponsor you $100." Eddie told the boy causing Jerome's mouth to widen in shock. Eddie seemed to miss interpret it to mean Jerome thought it was too little an amount to donate and then said, "$150 then, deal?"
"Done!" Jerome instantly said shaking the boy's hand looking gobsmacked. There was only 3 other people who waved about money like that on stupid things, Alfie, Camilla and Amber (though Amber's things were important to Amber so he guessed they weren't that stupid.). With that Eddie picked up the donation bucket Jerome had placed on the armchair and handed it back to him, sitting down and looking up to Camilla who was on its arm.
"Anything past She-Rutter when it comes to names?" Camilla asked innocently, she may or may not have put the word out to her little spies and word got around quickly she was trying to outsmart Eddie. She knew it wouldn't take long for him to find it out but it was fun whilst he didn't know.
"Not yet," he laughed leaning back in the chair, "but give me some time, I have contacts you could only dream of." Even this comment caused Alfie to laugh as he and Camilla looked to one another. Camilla was practically untouchable now she was somehow in Victor's good books; nobody could beat having the caretaker on your side when it came to this school.
"Hey, Jerome!" Patricia called over from the stage, causing Eddie's head to look around at the noise, "I still don't have a partner for the Wonky-Donkey."
Camilla laughed and called out in a sing-song voice, "Oh, Trish, I think you do!" Jerome turned and saw Camilla's finger pointing to Eddie from behind him as they shared a seat and his grin widened as he realised her plan.
"It's Eddie!" Jerome told her with a laugh.
"HIM?!" Patricia called out in disgust as Eddie looked up at Camilla in surprise.
"Me?!"
"You'll bond," Jerome told them both with a smile, "see Donkey Day is bringing people together already!" Jerome's smile faded as his text tone ran and Camilla saw him look down at his iPhone. She didn't need magic powers to guess who was messaging him and why. The boy turned to Camilla and the look on his face confirmed what she was thinking, she didn't say anything however she just reached out her arms to take the clipboard from him to help get people on board whilst he talked to the P.I and hopefully got the payment dated extended until tomorrow. Jerome smiled gratefully at her before rushing out of the room.
Nina, Fabian, Amber and Camilla decided to skip last period, they were going to sneak down to the cellar and the secret tunnels before anyone else got back from school. Amber telling Camilla all the way back to the house how she was going to style the girl's hair for tomorrow as Camilla had to look extra cute if she was the official cheerleader of the day.
"What are we going to do with this?" Fabian asked as he pulled the cube out of his bag the moment they were in the house.
"We need to put it back in its place," Nina told them all, "like tonight!"
Amber nudged Camilla and pointed to the cellar door with a smile, the key was in the lock – which was extremely odd for Victor which caused Camilla to frown and look about. There was someone around and trying to get into the cellar, she was sure of it, and unless it was someone from Anubis house (which was highly unlikely) there was only one person left, but why would Vera want to sneak down to the cellar? Of course, Camilla didn't say any of this.
"There is no time like the present!" Amber smiled at them all, pointing to the cellar door where the key was, before grabbing the cube from Nina and marching to the cellar.
"No, no, no..." Fabian started to stutter.
"Amber!" Nina hissed at the girl annoyed, "Vera will be getting dinner ready any minute."
Even Camilla couldn't help but roll her eyes at that comment, walking past Amber and pushing open the cellar door, as the blonde explained, "we don't have to go in that way," turning as she heard the creak of the door Camilla doing Jazz hands as if to say ta-da!
Shouting at the two girls who slipped into the cellar Nina and Fabian followed them both. All of them slightly surprised that the cellar was empty but not letting it faze them. Just as the fake door to the study opened the booming voice of Victor was heard calling down to them, "Who's down there?!" he demanded caused the four of them to rush into the study sighing with relief as the door closed shut. Nina looking out the peephole putting a finger to her lips to keep them silent.
"He's right there!" Nina whispered as Camilla went back to her dust art of dicks waiting for Victor to get bored and go back upstairs. She really didn't understand the fear everyone had about him, but then again none of the rest of them had seen him singing to plants as she had in the Lab.
After a few moments, Nina let out a sigh of relief and turned to them all, "okay we've got to go, this is way too risky."
"Okay," Fabian whispered missing the looks passing between Amber and Camilla who clearly thought their friends were being just a little overdramatic. Nina pressed the button and the door opened again. Nina leading the creep back to the main level of the house.
"Oh no," Nina groaned lifting the cube, "I forgot to put this back." She told Fabian as Amber locked the door behind them.
"Do you want one of us to go down?" the boy offered.
Nina shook her head, "not now, its too risky,"
"We'll hide it in our room," Camilla said and the two girls knew she meant in the floorboard by her bed, with that, they split up. Amber going straight back into talking make-up and hair looks for Camilla whilst Nina looked on amused following her roommates up the stairs.
