Chapter 3

With that, Drago unleashed another barrage of vicious yells, this time meant to summon his Bewilderbeast, who then burst into the mountain, thundering at Smaug. The vain firedrake, upon hearing this challenger approaching, asked Drago, "Is that your pet? You think he has a speck of a chance against me, the King Under the Mountain? He will PERISH!" With that, Smaug roared back at Drago's Bewilderbeast as he charged forward into battle, declaring, "You will BURN!"

The Bewilderbeast, having arrived in the treasure chambers, responded by shooting forth a torrent of ice, but Smaug countered this attack by spewing forth his own red-hot flames. For a short period of time, it seemed as though both dragons were evenly matched, as neither fire nor ice blasts advanced. However, this changed shortly when the combatants' duel became a melee, with Smaug lunging (via his expansive wings) at Drago's Bewilderbeast from the air, knocking the large ice-breather off his feet. The fire-drake then brought his jagged teeth down onto the Bewilderbeast's neck, causing the tusked dragon to rear up onto his back legs in pain, trying to throw Smaug off, but the monstrous "King Under the Mountain" held on with his sharp claws, stabbing them into the Bewilderbeast's hide, causing the ex-Alpha Dragon even more agony as he thrashed around. Eventually, Drago's Bewilderbeast rolled over onto his side, dislodging Smaug from the former's back, but the damage had been done, as the Bewilderbeast had been significantly wounded by Smaug's vicious assault.

However, the duel continued, as Drago's Bewilderbeast repeatedly swung his curved, sharp tusk at his adversary, but Smaug dodged these attacks before swiftly leaping forward to once again stab his hooked claws into the Bewilderbeast, but seconds later, the fire-drake's foe threw Smaug off before he get a secure grip with his claws and, after butting the prideful red-scaled dragon with the stump that his left tusk once extended from, the Bewilderbeast managed to inflict a colossal hit with his right tusk before shooting forth ice that encased Smaug's hands, pinning the fire-drake to the ground as the Bewilderbeast prepared a murderous assault on his opponent. Nonetheless, Smaug, now frustrated with how difficult this fight was becoming, managed to free his hands with a burst of fire before using his wings to propel himself away in the nick of time from Drago's Bewilderbeast's charge.

While the ice-spitter was proving to be quite the worthy opponent, an inquisitive part of Smaug couldn't help but wonder why his towering opponent was taking orders from a mere human that wasn't even a fraction of his size. Therefore, as he kept himself above his stranded opponent (as Bewilderbeasts are incapable of flight) with his wings, Smaug inquired to his fellow dragon, "Why do you follow the words of a mere man? He is little more than an insect compared to you!" While Drago's Bewilderbeast was incapable of speaking in English like Smaug, he was nonetheless able to understand what the fire-drake was saying, and rumbled grimly (in the closest thing dragons had to their own language) that if he didn't do as ordered, he would face unimaginable pain from his master, gesturing with his tusk towards Drago, who could do nothing but watch what was unfolding. For all his cruelty, sadism, and narcissism, Smaug couldn't help but feel a twinge of sympathy for the abused Bewilderbeast before him after hearing the latter's response. A confused Smaug then asked, "HOW does this wretch possibly have the capacity to inflict any degree of pain upon you?!" Drago's Bewilderbeast made it clear that the barbarous human had been doing just that ever since he was a diminutive hatchling. Upon learning of this, Smaug felt a burning fury beginning to form towards Drago himself for inflicting such misery upon one of the fire-drake's kin (in that they were both dragons, despite the numerous physical differences between the two), as he shot the human warlord a look of disgust and unbridled rage…
