Series 2, Episode 24 ~ House of Deceit
Nina came bursting into the hall and suddenly everything clicked into place for Camilla as everything did for Nina too. The tears forming in her eyes as she backed out of the room, as Camilla rushing over to Fabian and pushing Joy away and ripping off the mask. Joy nor Fabian ever never seeing Camilla as angry as she was, and everyone who knew about Camilla's powers looked her way as the lights in the school building started to flicker.
"Cam..." Jerome's voice came from behind her quietly and he touched her shoulder causing the flickering lights to stop as she looked his way. "Nina needs you, don't take your anger out here..." Camilla knew he didn't understand the gravity of the situation but Jerome knew that Camilla right now was dangerous to them all. He also knew her loyalty to her friends.
Camilla glanced back between Fabian and Joy, "Have I mentioned; I hate you both?!" she said bitterly before she rushed from the room after Nina. Thankfully Fabian hadn't seemed to compute what was going on and had yet to move. Almost in shock that he hadn't kissed Nina and then that Camilla had just screamed at him.
"What's happened!" Amber said as Camilla rushed from the room, "Nina just came out crying..."
Camilla took a deep breath trying to steady her emotions, "Fabian just kissed Joy..."
"NO!"
"Give me 5 I'll go find her," Camilla told Amber, "but stall Fabian, Nina won't want to see him after that." Amber nodded her head and moved to one side to let Camilla run after Nina. Her heels echoing off the halls as the smaller twin ran after her Chosen One.
Amber squared her shoulders and the angry look on her face appearing when Fabian burst into the hallway clearly looking for Nina. "YOU!" She said angrily the moment she saw him.
"You talked to Nina?"
"No, I talk to Camilla." Amber corrected.
"Ah, shit..." Fabian mumbled if Amber was angry because of what Camilla said he knew Camilla would be a hundred times worse. What he didn't expect was the hard slap Amber gave him. "It was an accident!" Fabian countered.
"Fell on Joy's lips did you!" Amber screamed.
"No... I-I," Fabian stuttered trying to explain what happened, "I can explain everything I just need to talk to Nina..." He went to move down the hall but Amber stepped in his way expertly.
"she's not at the house..." Amber said instantly, "she's in there, with Camilla." Amber pointed to the bathroom and Fabian went to enter but Amber once again blocked his way with a disgusted expression on her face. "You are not going in the girl's toilets, Fabian Jonathan Rutter! Not now not ever!" Fabian's expression crumpled as he ran a hand through his hair in worry. Amber stood her ground however crossing her arms as she stood guard like a beautiful Cerberus guarding hell.
Camilla gasped as she all but kicked open the door to Anubis house, she could taste the horrible metal taste in the back of her throat and knew if she was going to run any further she'd end up coughing up blood, "God I'm unfit..." she gasped to herself as she glanced around trying to think where would Nina go. One place came to mind but Nina wouldn't be so stupid to go down to the tunnels... after the dreams after everything.
The toaster popped in the kitchen and Camilla's head turned at the sound. The girl rushing up the hall expecting to see an upset Nina in the kitchen but she didn't. Camilla walked into the room carefully looking around until she rounded the island and saw the one thing, she had been hoping she wouldn't. The fake oven door was open. Nina had gone down into the tunnels alone.
"Oh, shit..." Camilla grumbled angrily as she grabbed the salt shaker before she got to her knees and crawled through the passage, making sure to kick the rock Amber had placed by its entrance into place so when the door shut over it wouldn't lock and a person just needed to push on it open. She had a funny feeling Amber wouldn't last long before her worry about Nina gave in and she and Fabian came running.
Camilla just had to make sure she saved Nina before then, as well as hopefully teaching the spirit a lesson about going after her chosen one. Camilla was angry and she needed to take that anger out on someone and she really hoped the spirit would be around so she could take it out on her.
Fabian was leaning against the wall with his eyes shut as Amber still guarding the girl's toilets as if her life depended on it. "Amber look I've really, really messed up," Fabian said hearing his voice crack as he tried to fight back tears. "I need to talk to her... them, it's not just about the..." he paused, "Kiss..." the word came out his mouth with so much venom that even Amber was surprised by it, "I'm worried Nina is in danger. Everything from the dream... it came true!"
Amber frowned at him talking sharply in response to his begging, "except you didn't kiss Nina. She's in no danger of being hurt, at least not from the spirit."
Fabian's shoulders sank as he stood looking Amber in the eye, "Look I kissed a girl, in the same dress and the same mask." Amber's tough demeanour broke for a second but Fabian didn't see, "in the dream and in real life. It came true!" Fabian paused to sigh trying to control his emotions and lean against the wall once again, "Look, I'm just glad she's in there with Camilla, and not anywhere near the house..."
"Well..." Amber couldn't help but say before she looked at Fabian, "they're not behind this door."
Fabian's eyes widened as he looked at Amber, "What?"
"I didn't know Nina was in danger!" Amber shouted, "there's no real reason to panic, Camilla's with her and plus Nina has no reason to go down to the tunnels on her own its not like she worked out how..." Amber paused her eyes widening in realisation.
"what?" Fabian asked again even more desperately.
"Just before the..." Amber paused and Fabian nodded understanding what Amber was insinuating, "she was on her way to tell us she had worked out how to cross the chasm."
If Amber thought Fabian looked heartbroken and emotional before it was nothing compared to how he looked now.
"Camilla's with her thought," Amber tried to reassure him, though it was clear that Amber wasn't quite sure Camilla had reached Nina in time.
"We've got to go," Fabian mumbled before he ran down the corridor, Amber looking at the dance for all of a second before following on behind him. Some things were just more important than a high school dance.
Nina reached the chasm, gulping nervously as she looked around. She knew she was looking for some kind of crocodile something, she had seen it before she was sure of it. She glanced back as she thought she heard something in the tunnels after her but shook her head, knowing it was just her imagination.
"Watch the timepiece!" the voice of the spirit came causing her to turn abruptly and lean back causing her to scream until someone grabbed her arm in a warm, strong comforting grip.
"I hope you don't think you were getting out of our relationship that easily Nim when I said I'm your protector for life I meant life."
Nina glanced to the side as she heard the familiar female voice and saw the smiling face of her protector, who pulled her back from the edge with ease and in heels – something Camilla would like noted by all thank you very much.
"AHHH!" Came the angry wale of the spirit who decided to show her ugly looking face rising from the pit.
Nina went to step forward but was pushed behind Camilla with a hiss of, "Let me keep you safe, please!" Nina gulped but nodded letting Camilla take over in this situation. Camilla turned to face the spirit with a glare, "you chose the wrong bloody night to mess with me,"
"Ah, the little Protector with limit power thinks she can back talk me." The spirit let out a laugh that caused the hairs on Nina's neck to stand up in fear but all Camilla did was calmly open the salt shaker lid as she waited for the woman to stop talking.
Camilla poured the salt into her hand and looked up at the woman, "Bitch, shut the hell up." With that making sure she channelled all her anger from everything that had happened that night Camilla threw the salt into the air at the spirit, yelling, "Phasmatus Lgnitium Dos Ex Salvo!"
Nina let out a gasp as the salt all burst into flames at it hit the spirit causing her to shriek in pain and dissipate before them, leaving a panting Camilla in the wake.
After a moment Camilla turned to Nina, before pulling the girl into her arms.
Nina was safe. That's all that mattered.
Nina clung to Camilla and muttered a soft "thank you," finally understanding what Sarah meant in her last letter to her. 'Don't underestimate your Protector, they have a job let them do it.'.
The two girls broke apart as an out of breath Fabian and Amber rounded the corner of the tunnels. "Your safe!" Amber exclaimed rushing to her friends and hugging them both.
"Camilla saved me," Nina told her with a smile.
"I'm the Chosen One's Protector nice to meet you," Camilla told her happy they where now at the point they could joke around.
Amber pulled Nina into another hug muttering about how worried she was, as Camilla turned to look at Fabian who took a quick intake of breath under her gaze, Camilla send him a small smile and held out her hand to join them by the chasm. It was all that was needed for the twins in that current moment to tell Fabian that Camilla wasn't mad at him, annoyed yes but truly and utterly mad no she wasn't. Fabian took her hand and gave it a squeeze.
Nina's smile dropped the moment Fabian stepped into the tunnel of the chasm. "Nina is safe for now," Amber commented as Fabian stood next to Camilla, "but for how much longer?" Nina glanced to Camilla in worry only to get a confident smile back. Camila may not 100% believe it but Nina didn't need to know that – even if Fabian saw right through Camilla's smile.
"Amber said you came up with a way to get across?" Fabian spoke up after a second, his nervous stutter in place.
"You did?" Camilla asked excitedly.
"Yeah, look" Nina nodded before looking to the back of the tunnel where there was an odd bit of wood sticking out the wall.
"What?" Amber asked unsure of what she was looking at.
"Sobek..." Camilla murmured in awe as she finally saw the crocodile shape causing Fabian to gasp as he too saw it.
"Do you see the crocodile," Nina asked Amber having guessed from the twin's murmurs they saw what she saw. "we have our bridge."
"There must be a button, or a lever or something to get it down," Fabian said in a tone which was slightly too excited about the prospect.
"Oh yeah, maybe there's a manual with a troubleshooting section!" Nina sarcastically commented causing Amber and Camilla to share uneasy looks. If this was what they were going to have to deal with they knew they weren't going to have a fun time on this quest and needed to solve it ASAP.
Nina glanced between Camilla's legs where a small light could be seen, "what's that?" she pointed causing Camilla to crouch as Nina wandered over.
"it looks like a crocodile jaw." Fabian murmured as he took in the picture from where he stood next to Amber on the opposite side of the wall.
Nina glanced to the pillar they wanted down back to the wall art then up at Camilla. "Seriously?" the girl asked knowing what Nina was asking of her.
"You are the protector..." Nina trailed off.
Camilla sending the girl a dirty look before she reached into the hole, causing the 'jaws' of the crocodile to shut around her arm. Camilla let out a squeal of pain and Fabian rushed forward at the noise gently pushing Nina aside to see if he could help Camilla.
Camilla shut her eyes as she felt around the hole, her hand finding some kind of lever and with a grunt she pulled it towards her causing the jaws around her arm to lift and the Crocodile pillar Nina had pointed out to fall down by their feet.
"WOAH!" Amber gasped in awe as Camilla extracted her arm and rubbed at where the jaws had clamped around it before she took Fabian's hand as he helped her to her feet. All four of the Sibuna's looked down at the great crocodile pillar in awe, both twins muttering the same prayer to Sobek in unison as they took in the sight, but Nina and Amber couldn't hear the exact words. They had gotten somewhere, though the next challenge was trying to get the beam across.
