Disclaimer: I do not own Pokemon or any of its characters. I only own Charlotte Shable and anyone else that doesn't seem familiar. Any of the story line that doesn't seem familiar, I most likely do not own.
AN: If you read any of my other stories, I'm working on updating those. I'm having major writer's block as its been so long since I've updated. I'm going to try my best to update them as soon as possible though.
In this fanfic, Ash ages. He's about 19, and it's around the Diamond and Pearl era. Brock is around 25 and Dawn is 10.
Ash, Brock, and Dawn were traveling from Sandgem Town to Jubilife City. They were making small conversation as they walked through the forest.
"Oh, I can't wait to get to Jubilife City! I'm so ready to compete!" Dawn excitedly exclaimed.
"We should be there within the next few days," Brock responded as he looked at his map.
Suddenly, the bushes and undergrowth to the right of the path in the forest shook. This caused the trio to stop and look on cautiously. Before anyone could say anything, a pokemon jumped onto the path. It was blue and black with bits of yellow on its body.
"Look! A Shinx!" Dawn cooed.
"Awesome!" Ash raised his Pokedex to register it into his database.
"Shinx, the Flash Pokemon. When it senses danger, the hairs on its body light up and it runs away, leaving its opponent dazed." Ash's Pokedex informed.
"Aw, it's so cute! I'm going to catch it!" Dawn announced, "Piplup! Come on out!"
"Be careful, electric types are stronger against water types," Brock warned.
"We'll be fine. Right Piplup?"
"Piplup!"
The Shinx tilted its head in curiosity to the travelers.
"Piplup! Use Bubble Beam!" Dawn commanded.
Piplup followed through with the attack and hit the Shinx dead on.
"Yes!"
Before Dawn could throw a Pokeball to catch it, the Pokemon burst out crying.
"Oh. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you cry." Dawn apologized.
"Shinx? Shinx!" the trio heard a voice call from the forest.
The Shinx cried louder, causing rustling to come from the undergrowth again. A teenaged girl stepped out of the forest onto the path. She had long red hair and bright green eyes with gold flecks. Her skin was pale, and she was quite short. Only reaching about five feet tall. The Shinx saw the girl and bolted over to her, still crying. The girl scooped up the Pokemon and started to soothe it.
"It's okay. Calm down, you're okay." she kissed the top of its head.
"Shi, Shinx." the Pokemon curled up tighter into the girl's arms.
"Oh, I'm sorry. Is that your Shinx?" Dawn asked.
The girl looked up startled, just now realizing that there were other humans there.
"Oh, uh. Yes. Yes, she is. I hatched her from an egg just the other day. She's still learning. She likes to wander." the girl explained, "Sorry if she gave you any trouble."
"No trouble at all!" Brock announced, "She was hatched yesterday?"
"The day before, but yeah."
"She's so attached to you! It's amazing!"
The girl chuckled softly, "Well thank you. It's hardly amazing I assure you. I haven't seen many new faces out here in a while."
"Out here? Have you been traveling through the forest for long?" Ash questioned, slightly suspicious of the new face.
"Well, not exactly. I'm here in the forest with a research team. We've been documenting Pokemon in their natural habitats for some time now."
"Oh, that's so cool!" Dawn exclaimed, "My name's Dawn! This is Ash and Brock. We're heading towards Jubilife City!"
"Where are my manners? I'm sorry, my name is Charlotte. But please, call me Lottie. Charlotte is what my parents call me."
"It's nice to meet you, Lottie! I know it's a lot to ask, but could I see your research station? I'm curious to see what you and your team are doing. I'm a Pokemon breeder, I'm trying to learn as much as I can." Brock asked.
"It's no trouble at all! It's a bit of a trek, but it's through the forest back the way I came if you're really interested."
"I think it'd be really cool! What about you Ash?" Dawn agreed.
"You're right, it would be cool. Let's do it!" Ash nodded.
"Well alright. Let's head this way then." Lottie turned and lead the way through the undergrowth into the forest.
Brock continuously asked Lottie as many questions as he could as she lead the way through the forest. Lottie answered them the best she could, all while still holding a, now sleeping, Shinx. Lottie slowed to a stop, causing her new companions to stop as well.
"Why'd we stop?" Dawn asked, confused.
"Well, I know there are some Ariados nests throughout here. I need one of my Pokemon to help me make sure we don't cross any of their paths." Lottie shifted Shinx to one side and pulled out a Pokeball from her belt, "Misdreavus! I choose you!"
"Wow! A Misdreavus!"
Dawn pulled out her Pokedex to document it, "Misdreavus, the Screech Pokemon. Misdreavus loves being mischievous by pulling people's hair and shocking them." Dawn's Pokedex informed.
"How'd you get one?" Ash asked excitedly.
"He was being a jerk and messing with me. Pulling my hair, playing dumb pranks, annoying my other Pokemon. I guess it was his way of saying he liked me." Lottie explained, "Misdreavus, can you lead the way back to the research camp?"
"Misdreavus!"
With the ghost Pokemon as their guide, the group of four continued their walk to the research site.
"Ash, Brock, Dawn, welcome to the Pokemon Research Field Team Camp."
There were three simultaneous noises of awe. The Camp had multiple tents set up and there were tables with equipment strewn about. A few people milled about with their Pokemon by their sides.
"This is so cool!" Brock spoke first.
"It's not much, but it's home for now," Lottie responded.
"For now?" Dawn tilted her head to the side, "Where are you from?"
"Snowpoint City. It's where I got my first Pokemon."
"How many do you have?" Ash asked.
"Six. I have a full team that I've been developing over the past few years."
"Oh, can we see them? Please?" Dawn bounced up and down a bit in excitement.
"Sure you can."
Lottie put down Shinx before grabbing four Pokeballs from her belt, "Alright guys, come on out!"
"Vaporeon!"
"Ponyta!"
"Glaceon!"
"Snover!"
"Woah. That's so cool!" Ash pulled out his Pokedex.
"Vaporeon, the Bubble Jet Pokemon, and an evolved form of Eevee. Vaporeon is made up of molecules similar to water, which allow it to melt and vanish."
"Ponyta, a Fire Horse Pokemon. Its mane is made of intense flames."
"Glaceon, the Fresh Snow Pokémon and an evolved form of Eevee. Glaceon can freeze the fur on its body, and make it stick out like sharp needles."
"Snover, the Frost Tree Pokémon. Snover live mainly on snowy mountains with little human contact but are known to approach people out of curiosity."
"Woah! You have so many Eevee Evolutions!" Dawn awed.
"I only have two. These six are my loyal team. Glaceon was my first Pokemon. I raised her from an Eevee. She evolved while I still lived in Snowpoint City." Lottie explained, "Snover was next. He was the first Pokemon I caught. Glaceon and I found him when we began our journey out of the city. The others all have their own stories."
"It's always nice to have stories with your Pokemon." Brock agreed.
"I agree. Well, would you like a tour?"
"Would we ever!"
