Series 2, Episode 40 ~ House of Wires
Camilla awoke from her nap to see Victor was still pottering around the Lab, talking to himself and Corbierre who the man had placed on the coffee table to watch over the young protector whilst she slept. Nothing was said by the two as Camilla watched Victor gather his stuff once he noticed she was awake. As she picked up Corbierre she noticed the letters she had handed Victor were gone from it. Camilla could only hope Sibuna had had a better afternoon than her.
Thankfully Sibuna had had a better afternoon, from the excited squeal Amber gave the girl as she wandered into their bedroom. "Where have you been!?" Amber demanded grabbing Camilla arm and dragging her to the floor where the Sibuna's bar Patricia were all sat. still in school uniform so clearly, they had all just got back in from school.
"I was...Magic class?" Camilla offered causing them all to look at her disbelievingly but no one pushed the girl thankfully. "what's happened?"
"Nina found a clue!" Amber told Camilla.
"but she also had a visit from our favourite annoying spirit," Alfie added as Camilla sat down between Amber and her brother.
"What?" Camilla glanced to Nina in worry who smiled at her.
"the dollhouse had a clue and when I turned around, she was standing right behind me, it's like she knew you weren't around or something."
"So, she basically told you to hurry?" Alfie asked Nina, "right? Or else..."
"pretty much..." Nina nodded before glancing back around at them all, "but she was really angry. Angry like you wouldn't believe."
"that could be because last time we saw her, I did set her on fire. I don't know about you guys but I'd be pretty pissed if someone did that to me," Camilla offered as an explanation causing Alfie and Fabian to laugh a little.
"She said," Nina paused to think over her words, "the Raven is poised to swoop."
"And you think it means...Victor?" Fabian softly asked looking to Nina.
"Victor didn't have the amulet, Jerome did," Amber countered. Camilla believed Victor was on their side and that was enough for Amber to believe it too.
Nina sighed and shook her head, "that's what I don't understand," the American girl explained.
"Did she say anything else?" Fabian asked curiously.
"she said this ruler may be forgotten but she will not be ignored." Nina quoted from her memory causing the twins to look to one another. A forgotten Ruler? Why did that sound familiar to them somehow?
"We would get the Spirit with self-esteem issues," Alfie muttered out loud causing a laugh from Nina and Amber, causing them to miss the glances being shared between the twins.
"Forgotten Ruler -" Fabian mumbled to Camilla who nodded her head as if she understood what he was saying.
"But where do we know it?" she asked quietly, causing Fabian to groan. That was going to annoy them both until they remembered.
Nina glanced between the pair having a jumbled conversation that only the two seemed to be following 100% and decided to bring the twins back to the topic at hand, "So, found anything with the clue Fabian?" she asked causing the male to look from his sister to Nina in confusion before he computed her words.
Fabian pulled a small bit of paper from his top pocket, "it's pretty obscure," he told them all as he glanced down at the small bit of paper and read, "upon the foundation on which this house rests. Lies the solution to the spider web test. Go find the armourer and scholars hollow, the silver thread of fate you must follow."
"How very Sibuna last year," Camilla muttered the moment her brother stopped talking causing them all to smile her way.
"Armorer and scholar's Hollow..." Nina repeated.
"the library!" Alfie offered instantly.
Fabian looked at him perplexed, "how'd you figure that one out?"
"that's where the suit of armour use to be," Alfie explained as if it was the simplest thing in the world, "Armour... Armorer, right? And, I don't know, isn't Scholar just an old-style word for a massive nerd."
"And where do you find nerds?" Amber asked.
"In a library!" Camilla concluded for the girl causing the three to look at the 'Nerds' in their group.
"Okay! I like spending time in the library!" Fabian argued defensively, grabbing his sister and pulling her into mess up her hair, Camilla causing her to laugh but Amber to shriek. "that doesn't mean that I am a massive nerd. Okay."
"Whatever you say Fabby," Camilla laughed as her brother let her go, both of them smiling to one another.
"So, Fabian and I will research online, while you three go check out the library," Nina divided up the jobs with ease.
"Why am I on library duty?" Camilla asked raising her hand.
"I need to know there is someone watching their backs in case our very unfriendly spirit pops in to 'motivate' us," Nina explained with a sigh.
Camilla nodded her head and looked to the two, "I'll need to get the salt before we head off."
"We need to fix your hair and outfit before we go Camilla." Amber retorted getting to her feet and holding out a hand for the female twin.
"I don't think we have the time..." Alfie tried to argue has he got to his feet with the girls.
"Believe it or not, fashion helps with almost everything," Camilla shot Alfie a look before she allowed herself to be dragged over to her wardrobe the boy falling back on Amber's bed, waving to Nina and Fabian as they left the room, Alfie and Camilla knowing there was no point fighting Amber.
"Everyone around here loves a juicy story, so they don't have to think about their own boring lives," Camilla reassured Amber as they wandered back into Anubis house after their hunt in the library.
As the two girls wandered around the exhibition arm in arm, they had heard two girls from Geb house whispering about the Amfie break up. Camilla knew the whole break up had hurt Amber more than she really wanted to admit because now she wasn't with Alfie it was clearly the girl was falling for the cheeky boy but she didn't want them to implode like the once had so didn't know what to do.
Alfie, of course, had missed all of this so the girls made up some huge lie about someone saying Camilla's shoes were last season or something and Amber was additament they weren't. it seemed to work as he nodded when he was meant to but didn't ask any questions after that. The three of them ran upstairs just as they saw Mara come up from the attic room, "Hey Mara!" the two girls smiled waving at her before running into their bedroom.
"Move I gotta use the loo!" Alfie told her gently pushing her to one side before rushing into the girl's bathroom. Mara jumped slightly at the touch and none of them saw the papers that fell from her binder.
Patricia, now with her sight back, was sat on the floor by Nina's bed her laptop out, Fabian and Nina were pouring over books that the twins just had on Ancient Egypt and some of the books the Sibuna's had rescued before Trudy cleared the attic on the Frobisher-Smythe's. The three looked up as Amber and Camilla wandered into the room, Alfie arriving a few moments later once the two girls were settled on the carpet by Nina's bed.
"So?" Nina asked the moment Alfie closed the bedroom door. "Any luck?"
"We checked the library," Alfie said, "no Armor or armourer or sliver threads or anything. Just your normal nerd herd of dorks with books."
"We got some good gossip on the Geb house though," Camilla told Nina and Patricia with a knowing look Amber nodding her head beside her.
Patricia let out a sigh, closing her laptop and leaning her head against the bed frame, "Aren't we supposed to feel safe at school? With this spirit having death marked us I feel anything but it."
"It is rather scary," Amber admitted, causing Alfie to put an arm around her and rub her arm soothingly.
"We're Sibuna," Camilla reassured her, "we defeated Rufus last year and his manic ways we can do this too. Our goal is the Mask, and then this Spirit Bitch can bugger off and leave us alone." Patricia sent her a small smile.
"Wait!" Fabian's shout broke the sombre moment like a hot knife cutting butter. He had missed the exchange between the rest of the Sibuna's to re-read the clue again. This time he must have found something. "I think I've found something." He looked up to see all their expectant looks, waiting for him to explain, "this is all about last names and what they mean," he held up the book to show them all, "so I thought I'd look up Frobisher; it comes from an old French word Bisseor, which means 'to shine'."
"Absolutely fascinating..." Amber deadpanned looking at Fabian trying to figure out what this had to do with their current issue. Amber turned to Camilla and shook her head, "and your brother says he's not a nerd."
"Which is the last name most commonly given," Fabian kept reading, "to Armorers."
"Okay, now that is actually interesting," Patricia joked causing them all to smile.
"Thank you!" Fabian pointed to Patricia looking around at the other Sibuna's causing them to laugh.
"Row, row, row your boat gently down the Nile...Merrily, Merrily, Merrily, someone's in denial." Camilla sang causing Fabian to push her head away from the bed gently as the other Sibuna's laughed.
"So, what if I am a nerd," Fabian countered as his sister looked up at him with a grin, "there's nothing wrong with that. I was nerds like me that invented the wheel, email," he argued though no one was fighting him on his point. "Pretty much everything you can't live without," he added looking to Amber.
"I feel your pain, my friend," Alfie spoke up causing the girls to look his way, "I get hassled because I want to be a Ninja." With this Alfie started to do Ninja moves getting confused looks from them all but Amber who gave him a fond smile.
"So..." Nina brought the conversation back to the topic at hand, "the riddles about the Frobisher-Smythe's?"
"Well he was a smart scholar, wasn't he?" Alfie added.
"Plus, he was the one making the traps..." Camilla added too causing the Sibuna's to nod their heads in agreement.
"Yeah and Foundations could mean... founders," Fabian offered pointing to the word on the riddle paper. "we all know who used to live on this estate."
"The Frobisher-Smythe's," Nina sounded excited.
"Where in the doll's house did you find this paper?" Camilla asked looking at it in Fabian's hands.
"It was where the picture of them hangs in the dining room!" Nina gasped, "maybe the solution to the task is behind it?" the Sibuna's didn't need to be told twice they were all on their feet and rushing out of the room.
"Walk don't run!" Victor shouted as they all came running from the bedroom, headed towards the doors that lead downstairs.
"Sorry, Victor." They all chimed as Camilla shut the door behind them all.
"Camilla," Victor called causing the girl to pause and looked his way, her eyes squinting as she noticed papers on the ground. Papers with the symbol of Anubis on them. "How are you feeling?" Victor asked but was ignored by the girl who bent down to pick them up. Gasping as she read the title page in hieroglyphics. Her facing looking to the attic room which was slightly ajar.
"Victor, I found your missing chapter..." Camilla whispered turning the papers to show him. The man gasped and took the pages off her before following her gaze to the open door.
"She wouldn't."
"You said she found the book." Camilla countered causing the man's mouth to go into a thin line as he thought over her words. "I have to go, but think about it. The threats now this... are you sure Vera is on our side because if not your life might be in danger too." Camilla told him before backing out the room leaving her guardian to think over the words as he looked over the missing chapter in the book of Isis.
By the time Camilla skidded into the dining room, Fabian and Alfie had just pulled off the Frobisher-Smythe's painting from the wall.
"I wonder what this does?" Alfie asked looking at a thin wire on the wall.
"it's a picture wire..." Patricia offered as an explanation.
"Or... it's the silver string of fate?" Nina offered causing them all to look at her.
Fabian grinned, "Then let's follow it."
"Pull it, Alfie," Camilla nodded to him with a smile. The boy didn't need to be told twice as he gave the string a tug and all of them looked at one another with smiles as they heard the same mechanism sound that they always heard in the tunnels. Behind them, something large fell down from the ceiling.
