Series 2, Episode 53 ~ House of Heists

Fabian came rushing back into the girl's bedroom, noticing his sister had changed out her tiger onezy into her normal pj's and was sat on the floor by Amber's feet getting her hair put it to two pleats, Amber muttering something about a hairstyle in the morning. Nina laughing at the pair as every time Camilla went to talk to her Amber forcefully moved her head back to look straight ahead.

"You won't believe it!" Fabian started slamming the door shut, before pausing as the girls all glanced his way.

"Are you okay?" Nina asked getting to her feet. Amber finishing off Camilla's hair quickly, watching as the female twin jumped up and checked on Alfie who was still sleeping soundly. Once she knew Fabian's outburst hadn't woken the boy – the last thing they needed the next day was a grumpy 9-year-old on their hands – Camilla focused on her brother and the news he had.

"hmm?" Fabian asked looking at them all confused why they had turned around to look at him.

"What's wrong?" Nina asked in a whisper, having watched Camilla look over Alfie.

Fabian gasped opening his mouth but nothing came out, clearly, he had already forgotten.

"Okay, eh," Nina focused her attention on Fabian, "try really hard. What was it?" she all but begged the boy.

Fabian let out an apologetic sigh, "I don't know," he told her, "I don't know... I do remember it was massively important," he turned to look at Amber and Camilla, glad to see the smile on Camilla's face which contrasted with the looks of annoyance that Amber and Nina were failing on hiding. At least Camilla wasn't annoyed at him for forgetting. She had his back.

"Okay, try really really hard to remember," Nina all but begged him. "What was it?"

Fabian dropped his head into his hands as nothing came to his mind. He hated letting down the team in such a huge way.

"Never mind," Nina told him comfortingly, putting a hand on his arm and rubbing it gently, Fabian giving her a grateful smile, "unless it helps us with the song of Hathor, it can't be that big a deal."

"Senkhara's been around for a zillion years, right?" Amber pipped up, causing them all to glance to her. "she might know it."

"She wants us to complete the task, maybe this time she helps us?" Camilla added having cottoned onto what the blonde was suggesting slightly before Nina and Fabian did.

"that's not actually as crazy as it sounds," Fabian pipped up, knowing that if Camilla was okay with the idea and she was the group's protector, it couldn't be all bad. Fabian looked at Nina to see her looking at him with a pointed look. "Is it? Is it?" Fabian quickly glanced away looking from Amber to Camilla trying to get one of them to back him up.

"What? No! no no!" Nina adamantly refused to even think of it as an idea. "NO!" She told them all.

Nina refused to even think about Amber's idea and the two girls knew that it take a lot more pushing. Camilla had been given the time off she had asked from Victor but that did involve her doing extra work for her classes.

So in order to do so, she needed to pick up some books from the library, but kid Alfie in a library was a chaos she could foresee and thankfully Jerome was easily talked into babysitting the boy for her while she ran over to the library.

"You are my hero," Camilla told Jerome once again with a smile, "be good for uncle J, squirt. I'll be as quick as I can."

That departing message had been over half an hour ago, and Jerome was still sat on his bed watching the young boy unsure of what he was meant to do exactly.

"So..." Jerome finally spoke up as he watched the young boy play with a giant snake toy Alfie still kept around. "your folks took Alfie to the hospital and Camilla is babysitting you till they are back?" he asked, Nina having told him as much as Jerome watched Camilla race around her room after the child to get him to put a top and socks on, both of whom were laughing wildly. In all honestly, the sight of Camilla with the boy was the reason Jerome agreed to babysitting him whilst she needed to disappear. He just couldn't say no whilst watching the sight in front of him. A small fond smile on his face as his eyes watched the laughing pair which Nina was smart enough not to mention to anyone but all the Sibuna Jamilla shippers (bar Fabian who still looked like someone had forced him to bite into a lemon whenever someone spoke about Jamilla in front of him. it wasn't because he couldn't see the potential in the couple, he just didn't think Jerome was good enough for his sister. Not yet anyway.)

"Old sports injury." Young Alfie told him with a shrug.

"what sports injury?" Jerome couldn't help but ask as Alfie had never told him about a sports injury before – and he knew about how the boy had named his fish after the seven dwarfs.

"it was a ninja neck break."

The Alfie-ness of the comment from the boy caused a smile to creep onto Jerome's face before he could stop it, "you're more like Alfie than I expected." He couldn't help but tell the boy.

"Cool right?"

Jerome laughed. Having a sibling who grew up idolising you was something he wasn't used too. Poppy never wanted to be anything like him and the twins were more than happy to show off their individuality, having someone who had Alfie of all people as an idol was something he never expected until the boy had children. "Alfie, cool? Na..." he told the boy.

Young Alfie looked at Jerome sceptically, "And you're so cool yourself?"

Jerome couldn't help but sit a little straighter at the question, "Naturally."

"Not as cool as Cam," Young Alfie told him with a knowing nod.

"Now Milly is on a different level than the rest of us, how could we compete?" Jerome laughed good-naturedly at the boy.

"Okay then, what then makes you even close to her coolness?" Alfie asked him, enjoying the slight power he had over his best friend.

Jerome thought over the question before replying, "She's called Mara... I have a hot girlfriend."

"MARA?!" Alfie couldn't help but sound a little disgusted at the words. Since Camilla's breakdown, he had come to see that his two best friends were perfect for each other, almost as if they were created for one another. However, he also forgot that's from the outside. The two also had the two biggest personalities on the planet and oh boy Amber was correct when she said that Jamilla was Endgame but it be a battle to get them there.

"Yes, Mara!" Jerome got defensive as he saw Alfie's facial expression. "Hey! And don't go paying attention to anything Alfie says because he doesn't know. I do. Alright?" Alfie couldn't help but smile a little. Oh, how he couldn't wait for the day to tell Jerome about this exact moment.

"This is so not a good idea," Nina muttered for what felt like the hundredth time causing Camilla to roll her eyes to the point her head actually fell back. She had finally succumbed to the wills of Amber and Camilla, agreeing to talk to the spirit only if Camilla was with her. The woman seemed almost cautious of the girl after the fire incident after the dance, and right now Nina was more than happy to have that caution on her side.

"Let's do this," Camilla told her with a groan, "we have done way worse and we will do way worse. She wants us to pass she will help." Camilla confidently told Nina who smiled slightly before looking around the room.

"Senkhara? Senkhara?!" Nina called out, "I need you. Senkhara?" Nina got to her feet, Camilla following her getting ready to pull the Chosen One behind her at any given second.

"OI Bitch," Camilla added causing Nina to gasp slightly at her words, "we need your help. Wanna show yourself?"

"Okay," Nina spoke looking around the room as nothing happened, knowing that Camilla's words would have gotten the spirit to show mainly due to the disrespect than anything else. She grabbed her bag and opened the bedroom door to reveal the spirit standing on the other side of it.

"time dwindles for you and your friends," Senkhara spoke her eyes flashing as she watched Camilla take a protective step in front of Nina, causing the spirit to stop where she was. "Why do you call me in such a disrespecting manner!" this caused Camilla to let out a small snort a smile creeping onto her face, "The Bond of Old may have ancient magic protecting you and your kin Protector, but that does not mean I cannot harm those you love."

Nina saw Camilla's eyes squint in anger, both of them questioning what she meant by the bond of old but both knew that right that moment wasn't the time nor the place to question what it meant. "We were just calling you," Nina told the spirit in a calm voice from behind Camilla, trying to be the one to keep the peace between the two, "because we needed to ask-"

"You forget, I am your mistress."

"You ain't no one's mistress, least of all mine - or have your forgotten who my Deity is..." Camilla threatened causing the Spirit to glare at the protector but she didn't threaten them anymore.

Nina took this as her time to talk again, "you want us to finish the task." Nina told the spirit who nodded her head at the girl, "we need to find the tune to the Song of Hathor."

"That poisonous melody."

"so you have heard of it," Camilla looked at the spirit.

"We need to find the melody," Nina explained before Camilla could put her mouth in it and the spirit would leave, "or we can finish the task."

Senkhara looked between the girls before holding out her hand, a small ball of magic appearing and within it, a trumpeting song played.

"But that's beautiful," Nina spoke in awe, Camilla having other ideas entirely but she was decent enough to keep them to herself for once, "why is it poisonous?"

Of course, Senkhara being the totally sane spirit she was didn't answer the girl's question, instead, she just screamed in the pair's faces before disappearing. The only good thing about the meeting was they now had the tune, though it did leave Camilla with a question she didn't know how to answer. What did the bloody bitch mean, "the bond of old"?

"Okay squirt, you coming for an adventure?" Jerome and Alfie looked up at the voice and both of them smiled as they saw Camilla leaning on the doorframe. The girl couldn't help her smile as Alfie bounded over to her from Jerome's bed where he and the older boy had been reading a comic book together.

"Can Jerome come too?" Alfie asked the girl taking the hand she held out and looked up at her. There was one thing Alfie remembered from his childhood was he had the puppy dog eyes nailed down, and apparently, the innocent look worked on his friends too.

Camilla let out a sigh glancing up at Jerome who was sitting up taking in the scene, "I guess I was going to show you one day," she told the boy with a smile, "today it is."

"What?" Jerome asked, clearly having missed part of the conversation.

"We are going on an adventure," Alfie turned to tell Jerome in an obvious tone.

Jerome laughed getting to his feet and taking the hand the boy was waving in his direction, clearly, he was coming with the pair at the demand of the small boy. Alfie knew he was going a little overboard but he didn't care, after the hour of Jerome talking about Mara before the boy 'got bored' Alfie needed to help his friends see themselves as a couple.

Amber couldn't help herself as she got her phone out to take photos of the three. She was walking back to Anubis house to fetch Nina when she noticed them as they walked down the grass towards the woods around the school, the two older teens swinging young Alfie in the air the three of them laughing.

"Do I want to know where we are going?" Jerome asked the girl, as she led them through the woods with a confidence that only Camilla could have.

Camilla didn't answer him, but the smile on her face was enough to have the boy curious. They eventually rounded a large tree and a small, "ta-da..." Left Camilla's mouth, causing Alfie to let out a laugh racing forward with Camilla desperate to see the magical lab that he had been told all about before bedtime the night before.

Camilla turned and almost burst out laughing as she saw Jerome's facial expression. The greenhouse's crumbling state was something she all but didn't see any more but she understood his caution on approaching though the worried look could be fear for the small child that was tugging on Camilla's arm desperate to go inside the building. "You remember how I told you about my magic classes?" Camilla told the boy softly, causing the boy to nod his head, "well... this is where they happen."

"in a broken greenhouse?"

"it's so much more," Camilla grinned, holding out her hand to him, "trust me?"

Jerome didn't think twice as she asked the question, because he trusted her. She never had to question that, he trusted her more than he trusted even himself. He was rewarded with a bright smile from the girl, who turned and led her boys to the door, Alfie excitedly pushing it open for them.

Jerome had to duck slightly to enter the greenhouse, but he was instantly welcomed by the strong smell of soil and something else he couldn't quite place, the warmth greeting him like an old friend like any greenhouse but it was the noise that was odd. There were odd soft flapping noises and a bubbling noise which then a loud childish gasp was heard causing him to look up.

The room was warmly lit thanks to the afternoon's sun, and it was clear there were unofficial sections. His eyes wandered around looking at the large plants that were to his left some of whom almost turned to see who had entered the room, one shivering excitedly as Camilla wiggled two fingers in its direction, the girl telling the boy's not to go anywhere near them as they had a very strict diet but hated it. They would try to eat their watches or glasses if they could. From there was a large 'potion' making area with bottles full of weird coloured liquids and odd objects he wasn't planning on examining anytime soon. Then came the library, the question of Camilla's weird reading being explained in an instant as he saw the pills of old grimoires there, a large oak table near it with stools all around it. The opposite corner to this library where the table sat between was a makeshift lounge area with the comfiest looking couches and armchairs he had ever seen. In the middle was a fountain that didn't seem on, next to it was a large circle drawn in chalk bar on section – almost like an entrance – where a punching dummy stood in the middle.

"This is epic," Jerome whispered in awe, as he saw Camilla lift young Alfie into her arms and wander over to the couches, not knowing what to do but to follow her.

"what do we say to Pizza?" she asked, once the boy was down. "I could try summoning some?" she offered before pulling a face and turning to a book to look something over.

"you can actually do that?" Jerome asked looking over her shoulder to see what was written on the page but not quite understanding any of it.

"in theory, though it would help a lot if you didn't stand over me like a stalker!" Camilla sassed, causing Alfie to let out a laugh from his seat.

"Sorry," Jerome raised his hands and sat down next to Alfie. The two watching the girl as she flitted around the room to try summon them pizza.

"If you have a girlfriend," Alfie spoke up in his childlike innocence, "why do you look at Camilla like that?"

"like what?" Jerome asked blinking and looking away from Camilla to glance down at the boy next to him almost forgetting they were babysitting him.

"like she's the sun..."

Jerome glanced back at Camilla and smiled slightly as the girl lifted a plate making a triumphant noise, "We're not something but we're not nothing,"

Before Alfie could ask any more questions Camilla had settled down with them, putting the plate onto the coffee table and the two boys greedily grabbed the pizza along with the girl.

"So, Mara isn't really your girlfriend, or you wouldn't be saying that about Camilla?" Alfie asked mouth full of pizza causing Jerome to look at him with wide eyes, glancing to Camilla who had summoned a magic book and seemed too engrossed in it to be paying attention.

"I had thought if she pretended for a while," Jerome spoke in a soft voice to the boy, "she might get used to the idea."

"why would she need to get used to it? Does she hate you?" Jerome rolled his eyes at Alfie's question. Alfie turned to Camilla, "Cam, do you hate Jerome?"

Camilla glanced up at the boy's question, Jerome noticing how even though she was probably mid-sentence his call caused him to get her undevoted attention a small half-smile on her face as she computed what he said, "why did he tell you I did?" Camilla teased before glancing at Jerome, "I don't hate you. I could never hate you." Something about those words being directed at him by the girl who pushed back a strand of hair with a smile before going back to her book caused a warm feeling to spread inside him, a feeling he didn't hate.

"Don't go meddling kid," Jerome told Alfie unsure of how to react to Camilla's words still and knowing the small boy was watching.

"You can't keep Mara off the internet forever," Alfie told him in a wise tone, which caused Jerome's eyebrows to raise. "what kind of relationship involves sneaking about?"

"Like its that simple..."

"Chicken!" the outburst from Alfie caused Jerome to groan, his head lolling back as the small boy got to his feet and started to pretend to be a chicken. The only small saving grace was the tinkling laugh that he knew to be Camilla's causing him to glance across at her to see her trying to hide her smile behind her book and a lazy smile crept onto Jerome's face before he focused back on the small boy.

Their afternoon had been a much-needed one, relaxed and much to Camilla's joy she had shared one more secret with her friends. They knew what she meant by her Lab now. Jerome was distracted the moment they got into Anubis house which was fine because the moment he left Camilla and Alfie they felt the house tremble a little. It didn't take much for the odd duo to know what it meant, and thankfully their Sibuna friends didn't leave them in the unknown for long as they came from the fake oven the moment the pair raced into the kitchen.

"We heard the trembles... what's happened?" Camilla asked them all in surprise.

"That ceiling isn't going to stay up much longer," Fabian muttered to his sister and Nina as Amber grabbed Alfie's hand along with Patricia to race him up to their room. This was all Camilla needed to know. They had tried to play the tune the spirit had shown them.

"I don't get it," Nina sighed, "we played it right didn't we? What are we missing?"

"Is there something else that needs to be played?" Camilla offered with a shrug.

"Wait..." Fabian spoke up, looking to Camilla as the three of them wandered into the hallway, "it's a five-note melody, right?"

Camilla looked to Nina instantly because music was not her strong point, "yeah..." Nina told Fabian unsure of what the boy was on about.

If the situation wasn't so serious Fabian would have laughed at his sister's expression, "so how come we are only playing four horns?" he asked the girls, Camilla's eyes widening as she smiled.

"We are missing an instrument!"

"Well, I think so." Fabian shrugged but his smile matched Camilla's.

"Okay, you two, what other instruments did the ancient Egyptians use?" Nina asked laughing at their enthusiasm.

"I'll go down to the library, see what I can find," Fabian told Nina.

"I'll go with Fabian, might be a good idea," Camilla added looping her arm in Fabian's as he went to protest.

"As long as one of you writes it down," Nina laughed before smiling at Fabian. Camilla reading the room and unlooping her arm, to wander over to the door to give them their space. "As long as you remember me, Fabian," Nina whispered the moment Camilla was gone.

"some things I could never forget," Fabian told her softly, before walking over to his sister and holding his arm out for her to take. Nina watching them go with a fond smile.

The twins were glad their uncle was in charge of the museum because that meant they were allowed in after hours. The two laughing at something as Fabian held open the door for Camilla, though their laughter stopped as they noticed the most obvious thing in the room. An exhibition had been broken into, and they were totally going to be blamed for it. Fabian rushed forward to look at the broken display case as Camilla glanced around the room to try to find where the CCTV cameras were.

"FABIAN... CAMILLA." The two turned to see Trudy at the door. This was not good. "what have you done?!" the woman demanded.
