Setting the scene: It's the end of July. The Weasleys Potters, and friends are celebrating Harry's 43rd birthday. Rose has started showing. Neville is making an announcement.
"What is it you wanted to tell us, Neville?" Harry asked.
"Well, I'm really not supposed to say this until tomorrow when they officially announce it, but as you know, McGonagall retired as Headmistress at the end of the last term."
Scorpius and Rose smiled at each other, knowing where this was going.
"Well, after an extensive interview with the Ministry, I am officially the new Headmaster of Hogwarts."
The entire room exploded in cheers and congratulations before Neville put his hands up to silence them.
"I'm not done! I have two letters here from McGonagall herself that I wanted to hand deliver to two very special individuals. Rose and Scorpius?"
The two of them went to Neville and grabbed the letters from his hand. They opened their letters at the same time, both of them catching their badges when they fell out of the envelope.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to present the Head Boy and Head Girl for the 2023 to 2024 school year, Scorpius Malfoy and Rose Weasley, soon to be Rose Malfoy."
It was a wonder their neighbors hadn't filed a noise complaint, Mufliato or not.
Hermione and Ron went to their daughter and hugged her, absolutely beaming with pride. Albus went to Scorpius and hugged him as well.
"Great job, mate."
"Couldn't have done without you. Well, you and Rose, but you're the one hugging me right now."
Albus chuckled and backed away, allowing Rose to hug her fellow Head Student.
"We did it, Scorpius," she whispered in his ear.
"Yes we did," he said as he moved in for a kiss.
"Alright, that's enough," Ron interrupted after their lips barely touched, a slight smirk on his face.
Everyone laughed when Hermione playfully smacked him upside his head.
"Honestly, Ronald, they're getting married in three weeks, lighten up a bit."
"I'll lighten up when they're both married and out of school, but not before."
"And I wouldn't have it any other way, Mr. Weasley," Scorpius replied, sporting a similar smirk.
After the party, Scorpius took Rose to the place they've been looking to buy. It was a house that Teddy recommended close to where he and Victoire were living. It looked roomy, but Scorpius knew it would shrink as they added more furniture.
He looked into each of the three bedrooms. The master one was smaller than his room in the manor, but he always thought there was too much empty space. The room across from it is what he envisioned the nursery would be. He stared into the empty room for a while until Rose wrapped her arms around him.
"What are you thinking?" she asked.
Scorpius smiled and answered, "I'm thinking...we could raise a family here."
"Really?"
"Really."
She raised herself up to kiss her fiancé when the estate agent came back.
"Well, has a decision been made?" she asked the couple.
"We'll take it," they both said at the same time.
They both stepped out of the fireplace in his bedroom. As soon as she sat on his bed, Rose lifted the charm that disguised her slight baby bump. Her mother had taught her the spell, finding it useful when she was pregnant with Rose and didn't want to deal with trashy tabloids.
"How long do you think we'll be able to keep this a secret?" Scorpius asked, "I mean, we bought a house, we're getting married...anyone can check the Ministry for marriage licenses. What do you think they'll say when they find out we're married?"
"Probably ask why they weren't invited."
Scorpius smiled slightly, twiddling his new wand. Rose had seen it and just assumed he had gotten it from Ollivander's. But she couldn't help but notice the look of sadness he was giving it as he was twiddling.
"What's wrong, Scor?"
He looks up at me just as a tear starts to fall. His voice comes out quietly and wavering.
"This...this was my mum's old wand. It just got me thinking about how much she would've loved to meet you. How much she would've loved to see her grandchild. I miss her, Rose. I miss her so much."
Rose had already wrapped her arms around him, allowing him to cry on her shoulders. She couldn't do anything but let him ride it out, joining him in the tears. She hated when he was upset. It pained her to see him so helpless. His hands wandered down to her belly, rubbing the outline of the small bump.
"I'm not ready, Rose."
When he looked into her eyes, he was surprised to find, not anger, but understanding.
"Neither am I," she replied in a whisper.
They sat there, foreheads connected, until they both shed their clothes and lie down on his bed, spooning. Scorpius was still rubbing her pregnant belly.
"I love you," Scorpius said, kissing her neck after he did.
"I love you too," came Rose's sleepy reply.
A/N: Aww. And here we have the driving force of...arguably all of my Scorpius Malfoy fics: his mother. The grief that comes with the death of a mom does not exactly go away, as I had come to find, especially when they die before all of the biggest moments in your life. Enough of personal insight of both me and the character, let's talk about some stuff for the next chapter. It will be a wedding, and it will be Rose and Scorpius's. Interesting enough, this was the chapter I had planned to up the rating (i.e. have a sex scene), but I decided against it. It wouldn't go along with the previous two, plus it makes this story more accessible to a wider audience. I make no promises on it being on the edge, but this story (and trilogy) would never be rated M. Rose and Scorpius are Head Girl and Boy, but we already knew that. They bought a house, so that's fun. And now Rose knows what Scorpius's wand really is. It's Christmas Break here in the US, so I might just yet have another chapter within the next week or two. Until then, see ya.
