Hailey walks into work the next morning, a pep in her step that has no business being there, and can't help but grin when she sees Jay already at his desk. She settles into hers, noting the way his eyes follow her movements, and smiles again when he sends her a smirk.

"Someone's in a good mood this morning. This place can't be exciting to return to."

His tone is teasing and she rolls her eyes at him.

"Someone's here extra early."

She counters, raising her brow in question. Hailey notes a faint pinkness tint his cheeks and her heart picks up pace almost instantly.

"Um yeah, sleepless night…"

He mumbles and the change in his voice peaks her interest.

"Bad dreams?"

She pushes carefully, aware that he does in fact suffer from the occasional night terror due to his PTSD.

"Not exactly…"

He trails off and when he slowly meets her eyes there's a darkness swirling behind them that causes her breath to catch in her chest. A darkness that she had never seen in them before, one that had nothing to do with trauma or bad dreams but something else entirely. She gulps loudly and her cheeks burn as the realization of what he was hinting at hits her.

"How did you sleep?"

His voice is almost husky and she struggles to get her brain to focus on anything else. Another hard swallow and a deep breath before she can reply to him.

"Um, I was up kinda late."

She tries to shrug it off but the thoughts that clouded her head last night come rushing to the forefront once again. Thoughts of him and the feelings she held in secret. Luckily she had forced herself to sleep before her mind could wander any farther down that path but now that he was in front of her this morning there was no stopping the mental image.

"Why's that?"

Jay asks quietly and she wishes they would get interrupted before she had to continue this conversation. It seemed innocent enough but she was struggling on her end and it was going to be the death of her.

"Just couldn't fall asleep."

She shrugs again and his eyes study her movements. There's a slight smirk on his face that is making this conversation that much harder and she wants to be anywhere but here at this moment.

"Busy mind? Thoughts keeping you awake?"

He pushes and she wants to melt into the ground. The way he's continuing this conversation makes her feel like he knows exactly what was keeping her awake and she's not sure how to feel about that. Luckily Kim chooses that moment to come into the bullpen and let them know they caught a case. Hailey lets out a silent sigh of relief and is beyond grateful for the distraction a case will provide. It doesn't stop her from taking one last glance towards Jay and feeling her face ignite when she catches the way he's staring at her.

The case itself is pretty straightforward but it's still busy work that keeps her mind occupied for the most part. A lull in the day finds Hailey in the break room brewing a pot of coffee as her late night is finally catching up with her. She hovers in front of the pot, lost in thought as she listens to the sound of the coffee sputtering out of the machine, and doesn't notice when Jay comes into the room until it's too late. He's behind her now and his arm stretches beside her as he reaches into the cupboard for a mug of his own. He's not touching her but with his proximity he might as well be. She freezes slightly and watches his arm from the corner of her eye, waiting for him to step back. But the only available mug is at the very top and even Jay has to stretch up to reach it, causing his chest to brush against her back slightly. Hailey jumps at the contact as if she had just been burned and Jay's other hand comes to rest on her shoulder. His hand lingers there for a second before he's gone and she's free to turn around. Except the look on his face makes her wish she hadn't as she's met with another smirk.

"Jumpy?"

He teases, wiggling his brows slightly as he continues to smirk. She doesn't answer him in the hopes he'll just let it go, but of course he doesn't.

"Sorry about your long night, I hear a lack of sleep can affect your reactions."

His tone is deeper this time and she struggles to form a response.

"Not your fault."

She mumbles, eyes darting anywhere but his. When she finally does look his way another bolt of heat shoots through her.

"No?"

He challenges and she almost drops the mug in her hand. What the hell was this? Surely he couldn't know what he was doing to her but it certainly seemed like it. She manages to shake her head slowly before noticing the coffee is finally done. He pours them each a cup and then she heads back out to her desk, letting out a breath she didn't know she was holding. The rest of the day moves quickly and Hailey is finally able to go home. She wastes no time grabbing her things from the locker room before bolting out the door and walking quickly until she's in the safety of her car. She lets out a breath, clenching her hands a few times as the nerves from the day start to catch up with her. Her phone dings with a text and she glances down to read an invite to Molly's in their group text. She politely turns them down, citing being too tired and that she was going to just go home and sleep. Hailey know's Jay is in the same group and she hopes that he will give her some time alone tonight. Not that she wants to be alone, not truly. But being with him seems far more problematic.

Once home, Hailey settles onto the couch and digs into the take-out Chinese she picked up on her way. After she's done eating, she heads upstairs and decides to draw herself a bath, even going the extra mile of lighting candles and adding some bubble bath to the water. She sinks into the heat and lets her body melt away the tension from today. Although she quickly realizes the tension she's been left with from today is not something hot water alone will relieve. Still, she does her best to relax and when the water starts to cool she climbs out, slipping into a set of pjs and heading to bed. She absent-mindedly scrolls through her phone until she feels a familiar ache behind her eyes, signaling it's time to sleep. Hailey fades away quickly as sleep overcomes her.

His lips on her skin ignite a fire that burns so hot she feels like she's going to explode. The feel of his hands caressing her body, exploring parts of her that no one has taken the time to before, finding the spots that would make her come undone...it was almost too much. Almost. She arches into him, moaning when his hand finds the spot she's been craving him the most and he does it so expertly she knows this won't last long. His mouth is on hers again, drawing her lower lip between his teeth and letting it drag back out, causing another moan to rise from her chest. His fingers pull her closer and closer to the edge, she can feel her body trembling under his touch, can feel the need for release reaching a peak...her body flashes hot before all the heat pools into her lower abdomen and she's about to explode…

Hailey sits up in bed, breathless and disoriented. The room is dark and cold, a stark contrast to the dream she was just living in. Her body is coated in a layer of sweat and her hair clings to her neck. She catches her breath slowly, processing what had just happened. It makes her anger at herself, not that she hadn't ever considered it before, but for her mind to just wander there completely...it felt like she was crossing a line. With an annoyed huff of air, she collapses back onto her bed, feeling her heart still racing as she continues to settle back down and hopes that sleep will find her once again. Except it doesn't find her and she can't settle down. Her body is too on edge to fall back asleep, to primed after her dream to just fully relax again and the tension she felt before is now tripled. She tries to push the thoughts away, the temptation to give herself a little relief, but it's no use. Her own hand finds where Jay's imaginatory one just was and she's not surprised to find just how realistic her dream was. Her eyes flutter close and for just this moment she lets the dream filter back into her mind, wishing it was more than her own doing that was pulling her over the edge. Only a few minutes later she's breathless once again, feeling her heart pound in her chest as she feels sleep finally tugging her away.
