Ello bello guys! I'm back! and I thank you so much for the reviews! It may not seem like much, but two critical reviews are more than enough to make me want to carry on making these, I actually got inspired to write down a second chapter, after all, who doesn't like smores?
By the way, this story is also a follow-up to my "no more forgiveness." Fanfic on my other account, which to sum it up consists in the ending of Ralph Breaks the internet being the same with the exception that he never got to rescue Vanellope in time, and shank had been the sole one to save her, if this one seems slightly ooc or just plain salty with him it's because of this, it is a slightly darker take on how she remembers her former friend.
I have no idea how many chapters I'll make, from now on It will be more of a continuation of experiences about Vanellope and those who wronged her as well as how she heals from that, of course to heal you first have to suffer, and suffer she will.
Chapter 2: Remembrance
Vanellope hummed as she munched on her smores, the scent of smoke and the grill-like environment were just perfect for her, butcher boy was telling them his tales, as per usual, while Shank and the others kept nodding at every word he said.
At one point, the previous night got brought up into the conversation.
"Huh?" Vanellope had not paid attention, not really, the marshmallowy treat had been too good, pyro really knew how to roast 'em. "whatcha worryin' for guys? I'm fine now"
"You still seem to be doing some brainstorming" Shank's eyebrow was raised. "you don't mind me sharing what happened with the others do you?"
A shrug of Vanellope's shoulders was her response.
"Nah, I trust 'em. You guys have never judged me, unlike the boneheads from my old game, or even Stinkbrain himself, the more time I spend with true friends the more I realize how toxic my old ones were."
Pyro sneered. "If anyone messes with ya we gon' flame 'em up!" the sentiment seemed to be shared by butcher boy's crack of his knuckles, which made Vanellope snicker.
"Y'know, I still like Ralph." The nine-year-old continued. "guy's a doofus and dumb as a brick, but I got some of my best memories with him"
she kicked her legs some more, pondering about the former friend that time and time again continued to shatter her trust, just like everyone before him. "which Is why I'm even visiting him once a month to begin with, instead of two weeks like in the beginning"
Shank shook her head at that.
"Funny, I got a call from him before we got here, why did you think I told you to go ahead with the others? I didn't want you to worry about him"
"Really?!" Vanellope leaped right up, eyes shining with unashamed curiosity. "whatcha hidin' me that for! What did he say!"
"He said sorry."
Vanellope's stare was blank.
"Sorry for what?" she sounded slightly frustrated now, "I told him to move on already!"
Shank merely shrugged in response "he went on a tirade about how he never meant to wreck your Kart, and almost killing you when you two came here for the first timeā¦and not saving you from the virus."
"Is that it? Geez, when you put it like that who wouldn't forgive him?" Vanellope snorted in sarcasm. "better give him a piece of my mind next time I see him, when's our visit scheduled for anyway?"
"Next Saturday." Shank supplied with some mirth. "Didn't being president help you keep track of that stuff?"
Vanellope chortled.
"Billy-boy did the paperwork stuff, I just dealt with the crummy little crumblings"
She scoffed at another reminder of the racers, she honestly felt nothing but contempt for them, why wouldn't she? They had wasted the forgiveness she granted them.
They should feel pain, maybe then they'd understand how she felt all those years, and RalphIe? She hoped he still kept her new medal for him.
After all, the "no more forgiveness." Letters plastered on it were just what he deserved.
She still enjoyed hanging out with him, occasionally, but she was fed up with his co-dependance, he was supposed to be a grown-up for fudge's sake! His childishness was adorable at first, but when it came to messing up important stuff concerning her, she just couldn't deal with it anymore.
"Ow! What was that for?"
Vanellope rubbed her arm, slightly sore from the pinch she had received.
Shank rolled her eyes in good nature. "You spaced out again, you've been doing that a lot lately"
"welp, we just ran out of mellow." Vanellope tossed the empty stick away before getting up, completely changing the subject. "how bout I get us some more?"
The others gave her a dubious look, but said nothing as she walked away.
"Yo! Ya think V is doin' good?" Pyro asked. "pup's been a weirdo lately."
"all in due time pyro!" Butcher boy interjected "Wisdom declares that boundaries of friendship should never be transpassed, isn't that right shank?"
"Spot on as ever butcher boy" Shank smiled at his quirky friend, a frown soon adorning her features. "But it's true that she's not been the same, these mood changes and insecurities plaguing her head are going to drive her mad, a nine-year-old shouldn't deal with all of this."
"How about getting her a therapist?" pyro suggested "betcha that would solve this in no time!"
Shank snorted at the idea. "I doubt it, and you know we don't have those here Pyro, besides, no offense but Vanellope would rather drown in mud that ask a stranger for help, we have to be there for her, that's all we can do."
Shank knew Vanellope hadn't left to fetch more breakfast for them, she just did not want to be there for her collection of yesterday's events.
She could only hope Vanellope would one day be able to trust them all.
And most of all, that It would not interfere with their game.
Okay, so this one is shorter than the first one, I was going to make it an epilogue and call It a day, but I'd rather it just be one short chapter instead, there's plenty of unanswered questions for everybody to ask about, I love to hear what everyone has to say as long as there's something productive to learn from it, now, without further ado, have a merry berry hollidays season and see you all soon!
