Prologue: Web of Shadows

Manhattan, New York City

The darkest day in New York City has arrived. What was believed to be an infection, turned out to be an invasion. From the shadows, the city was attacked by mysterious alien creatures. Symbiotes. They spread throughout the city, infecting civilians one by one, turning them against the city they love and destroy it. Fires are everywhere. Buildings are covered in black goo. Civilians are being kidnapped by the aliens. Resistance forces can't hold out much longer. The city is nearly consumed by the darkness. How can anyone hope to defeat them?

There is one man that can seize control of New York's fate. A hero that has the power to change its destiny. A young high-schooler that was bitten by a radioactive spider that granted him amazing powers. His name is Peter Parker, the Amazing Spider-Man. And he has failed.

The depressed webslinger walks across the rooftop of a tower in silence, staring down at the floor while ignoring the chaos and destruction around. An aircraft crashes and explodes next to him. A helicopter spirals out of control after being tackled by a winged symbiote. SHIELD agents and mysterious tech-based criminals work together against the symbiote horde, only to be overwhelmed.

All hell has broken loose, and Spider-Man simply ignores it, depressed over his failure and thinking that it's all worthless. And yet, something in his mind encourages him to push forward. As he approaches the edge of the roof, he picks up the pace and jumps down into a freefall. He launches a webline to swing off from, as he starts hearing the echoing thoughts of his friends and foes inside his mind.

'You have it don't you? You know what that does to you. You know how it can CHANGE you…' said the memories of his redheaded ex-girlfriend, Mary Jane Watson.

'If that thing gets control over you, GUTTING is still an option! Got me…' said the memories of his mutant friend, Wolverine, as the webhead zips through the skies of the neighborhood and strikes several symbiotes, bouncing off of them.

'This city is going to be OURS. You just wait and see…' said the memories of his thieving ex-girlfriend, Black Cat, while Peter grabs a symbiote and throws it across the air, then knocks it down with a Web Strike.

'When this is said and done, who will the people REMEMBER as their savior…' questioned the memories of the infamous crimelord, Kingpin, while the webslinger swingkicks through a crowd of symbiotes before landing on a rooftop.

BGM-Spider-Man: Web of Shadows OST-SHIELD (Red Suit)

Spider-Man looks down at the streets and spots a SHIELD van crashing into a building, exploding upon impact. "Could she be in there? Please be alive…" He finally speaks as he is on the search for someone, praying they are still alive. He swings towards the crash site, landing next to the van and notice the hood is on fire. He quickly looks through the window, finding a SHIELD agent that died instantly from the crash, "No, it's not her. Where is she?"

Suddenly, he turns around upon hearing the snarls of mouthless white symbiotes called Walkers. The symbiotic zombies slowly walk towards Spider-Man, who glares angrily at them, "I do NOT have time for you!" He furiously attacks the horde, easily killing a symbiote with a single punch until they were all killed.

"I gotta find her! She MUST still be alive somewhere!" expressed a desperate Peter, swinging through the city until he finds his special one. He lands on a streetlight, just as he notices the back of a SHIELD aircraft had caught on fire and crashes high into the wall of a skyscraper.

Several SHIELD agents quickly rush out from the back of their crashed aircraft, finding themselves surrounded by winged symbiotes. "MOVE, MOVE, MOVE! LET'S GO!" A SHIELD agent expressed urgently while wielding their energy gun.

Another agent says, "We've got multiple targets-!" but was interrupted by the explosion of their aircraft, causing everyone but one to fall down to their deaths, while the survivor holds onto the edge of the aircraft for his very life.

'That man won't hold on much longer. Gotta hurry!' said Peter in his thoughts, web-zipping towards the wall where the vehicle crashed into and sticks onto it like a true spider. The black symbiotes known as Snatchers roar at the arachnid, crawling towards him with the intention to kill him. Spider-Man doesn't give them the chance to touch him. He slides across the wall to sweep a few, knocking them back. He fiercely spinkicks several more off the wall, then webs a few more aliens before briefly jumping off the wall and slamming himself back onto it with a powerful, crushing stomp, eliminating the webbed symbiotes. And all of that without a quip, which is very unusual for the web-slinging jokester.

Meanwhile, the SHIELD agent is losing his grip when a winged symbiote grabs him by the leg and flies him upwards, attempting to flee with its new meal. Spidey wouldn't allow that to happen. He quickly jumps off the building and shoots webs at the Vultureling, forcing it to drop the agent. Spidey quickly performs a Web-Zip to save the agent, moments before he fell to his death.

"Now where is Cage and his search party?! Where?! Is?! MJ?!" asked the desperate Spider-Man, holding the confused agent over his shoulder.

"MJ? I don't understand. Maybe…the secondary rendezvous. One Bravo-17." The wounded agent replied with an unsure answer.

"Show me!" retorted Peter, swinging the agent through the infested city.

"It's not too far from here. Just a couple blocks." said the injured agent, pointing Spider-Man towards the rendezvous point. And thanks to Spider-Man and his spectacular swinging speed, it wasn't long until they spotted the rendezvous point, "Yeah, that's it! Over there!"

BGM-Spider-Man: Web of Shadows OST-S.H.I.E.L.D. Quarantine Zone

Two SHIELD agents were standing next to their van when they were surprised seeing Spider-Man walking towards them with one of their own, who was injured. They already had a stretcher out as Spidey gently lays him down on it.

While the agents tend to their wounded, Spidey fiercely touches one of their shoulders while desperately asking them, "WHERE'S CAGE AND HIS SEARCH PARTY?!"

"Who?" The agent responds with confusion.

"The civilian volunteers! Pretty redhead, arm in a cast! AAGH, you're no help!" Peter retorts as he continues to confuse them with his words.

"Hold that APC! We got vehicles inbound!" said a nearby agent, rushing pass the distressed hero alongside a squadron of SHIELD agents.

"MJ!" Peter follows them, hoping they'll lead him to Mary Jane.

BGM-Spider-Man: Web of Shadows OST-SHIELD (Black Suit)

Spidey follows the agents to a fight between Police Officers and an incoming symbiote horde, which are entirely comprised of Walkers. SHIELD and the police shoot the symbiotes from a distance and manage to kill a few. Spider-Man jumps over their shots and kill the remaining aliens with a single web-swinging kick. But then he was caught off guard by a Snatcher tackling him into a wall. "Get off!" shouts Spidey, angrily kicking the alien off his body. He glances the battlefield and find stronger symbiotes have entered the battle, some that resemble the outworldly Creatures of Grimm. All of them are being fended off by the resistance force, but Spidey notices that the more they kill, the more they are replaced by two alien-looking pods on the walls of buildings.

'Those pods are spawning more symbiotes. Gotta destroy them all so we have a fighting chance!' said Peter, zipping towards a wall with a Symbiote Pod. He fights through the spawned symbiotes while crawling towards the pod. The sentient pod lashes tendrils from its mouth at Peter, knocking him off the wall, but from the air, the hero webstrikes the pod and kills it, bouncing back into the air. The webhead spots the second pod on another wall, using Web-Strikes to bounce off flying symbiotes until he reached the pod. The pod spits out a tendril to knock him out of the air, but Peter swiftly dodges it and destroys the pod with a powerful Web-Strike.

BGM-Shadow the Hedgehog OST-Evil Ending

With the pods destroyed, new symbiotes can't be spawned. SHIELD was then able to go all-out on the remaining symbiotes, relentlessly shooting at all of them until they were wiped out from the area. Spidey lands on a wall as he is surprised to see a lone car ramming through symbiotes o the streets. Driving the car is a fellow Avenger, Luke Cage, and in the passenger seat is Mary Jane, who appears to be safe and sound, much to Peter's great relief.

The car skids to a screeching halt, allowing Cage and MJ to walk out of it. "Let's go!" Cage gestures to the beautiful redhead.

"MJ! MJ! I was so worried!" said the frantic Peter, startling her as he lands on their car.

"You best play it cool, man." Cage points at him.

Wearing a Repulsor Gauntlet as it charges up, MJ points it at her ex-boyfriend and asks, "Is it really YOU this time?"

"C'mon, we gotta go!" Cage said to the redhead.

Peter jumps off the car while frantically expressing to her, "Look, look! I promise, I promise, I WON'T use it again!" He said, implying that he has been using something incredibly dangerous recently.

MJ glares at him, "You promise? We are WAY past that!" She rejects him, having lost her trust in him because of the dangerous item in his possession.

"We ain't got time for this." said Cage, seemingly rejecting Peter as well as he gently pushes MJ towards an aircraft that's descending onto their location.

Left heartbroken and more depressed than ever by his friends abandoning him, Spider-Man turns his head around when he senses something approaching him. It appears to be the silhouette of a mysterious woman, creepily walking towards him from the flames of a car.

MJ notices the silhouette with a shocked look, saying to Peter, "Oh no…Get away! GET AWAY!" while walking to him.

"Come ON!" said Cage, grabbing her arm and stopping her as he knows it's too dangerous to approach him and the mysterious figure.

In silent confusion, Peter looks at MJ before staring back at the mysterious silhouette. "DON'T do it! Just come with me!" MJ shouts, desperately trying to convince him to join her instead of the silhouette.

Struggling with his choices and what to choose, Spider-Man stands in utter confusion and left totally helpless when symbiote tendrils latches onto him while he screams, "WAAAAAAAAAH!" and being pulled into the living abyss.

"No! NO! NOOOOOO!" screams Mary Jane, helplessly watching her ex being consumed by the symbiotes. Peter sees the SHIELD aircraft flying MJ and Cage away to safety. It's the last thing he sees before drowning into the darkness that is the symbiotes.

KFX Here: To coincide with the upcoming "King in Black" comic event in Marvel Comics (starting in December 2020), I am remaking "Spider-Man and Cinder: Flaming Web of Light and Shadow, now renamed Spider-Man: Web of Light and Shadow. Like with previous remakes, I'm doing this to improve the writing, fix any continuity issues, add new ideas, cut out anything I've come to dislike from the original (i.e. Perfect Synchro), etc. Truly this is the darkest story in the entire United Heroes franchise.

Note: Chronologically, this story takes place about 2 months after Battle for Remnant RX (1 month after Un-Gravitified Web).
