"Mommy!" The scream came from somewhere Chell couldn't see, but one thing was for sure, it was a scream of terror. somehow Chell felt completely calm amidst the chaos. Her father, Mr. Johnson, had died a few months prior, but she still wanted to come to "bring your daughter to work day" since she was always allowed in Aperture anyway. she'd brought a project too, a potato battery, something she thought would be cool and unique, apparently everyone else thought so too.
People lay on the ground everywhere. a man, choking, lay at her feet and a woman in front of her was slumped against the wall. her own lungs seemed to be filled with this mysterious neurotoxin and her throat tightened. she really couldn't breathe.
she ducked inside the Aperture Science Medical Department where they took people apart, shoved science in them and put them back together again. there should be oxygen masks somewhere. right? wrong. of course not, aperture didn't care if the patient died.
Chell wheezed, her lungs yearning for air, she needed to breathe. The girl ran, though it was illogical, why would you run when there was little air? she stumbled a few steps, choking as she fell against the wall.
"help!" she gasped out though she knew there was no hope, no one was going to help her. no one. she was as good as dead. and then she saw it, the Cryopod. untested, but still online. Chell clawed her way forward, inching slowly. she hacked up a blob of saliva and spat it on the ground beside her. She reached the edge of the pod and used the very last of her strength to heave herself into it and pull the top down over her. that was it. she was safe. fresh air was pumped into the pod and she breathed in a deep breath, filling her lungs. A smile crossed her lips and thena fine mist poured through the vents, a shiver ran up her spine, and she fell asleep.
