Kate was walking down a street with a phone in her hand, "Okay Bruce, let's see what you've got for me."
Kate walked up to her door, which was cracked open. Kate kicked down the door and saw something that caused her to scream so loudly, it shook the heavens. Renee and Maggie having coffee together in her living room! Renee and Maggie were grinning at her, "Hey Kate!"
Kate tried to walk backwards, but bumped into somebody, "Kate?"
She turned around and saw Sophie Moore. She didn't say a thing, just stood there. Sophie waved her hand in front of Kate's face, "Kate? You okay?"
Renee smirked as she wrapped her arm around Sophie, "She's just screaming in her head."
"No way."
'AAAAHHHHHHHH-'
Thirty Minutes of Internal Screaming Later
Maggie was smirking as she drank some coffee, "So Kate, did you do the thing for these two?"
Kate looked away, "What thing?"
"Oh no! You know what I'm talking about."
"I've got to hear this?"
"Okay."
Some years ago
Kate was outside of Maggie's house with a radio playing El Decapito at full blast, "Take me back!"
"Not until you admit that Twilight was good!"
"The werewolf is a creep!"
Present
"Looking back, Kate was right. The werewolf was a creep."
"I told you!"
Sophie laughed, "I'm amazed that Kate actually did that trick."
"Yeah."
Kate drank some coffee, "That was an experience and I'm going to pay Bruce and all of you back for this."
Maggie smirked, "And how are you going to do that?"
Kate saw where she was sitting and smiled, "Want to have an orgy?"
Maggie spat out her coffee in shock...right into the direction of Renee and Sophie.
To be continued.
Kate Kane is a fun character, but you're better off avoiding her worse stories. This was originally gonna be a short about Alucard from Hellsing killing that vampire that raped her in that one story, but that didn't really work out for me since Kate wouldn't have been the focus here.
Let's talk about her design. I really like how her outfit uses black and red. It makes her outfit pop and really helps her stand out.
I do like it when her skin is ghostly pale. I just thought it always fit her and made her stand out more, especially in contrasting her red hair.
Though I do question how nobody put together that Kate and Batwoman are the same person from the hair color. On the chance you only know about the TV shows, in the comics, Kate's hair is naturally red.
Like I implied at the start, you should look up what stories with her are good and which ones aren't. While the only one of her stories that I personally dislike is the one with the vampire rapist, I'm sure there's some more crap somewhere.
To reference my Dick Grayson review, what is with DC and Marvel having their heroes sexually assaulted? It rarely actually means anything to their stories other than making them more 'mature.' When all it does is make them look like an edgy teenager.
It's especially jarring when Kate is one of the few LGBT+ DC characters with the vampire being Bi and one of the big stereotypes of Bi people is that we fuck everything around us. Which is...untrue.
But let's forget about that and talk about something that bothers me with Kate. I'm gonna get a bit angry here.
DC…..CAN YOU PLEASE JUST LET KATE KEEP A LOVE INTEREST?!
I get it! With Marvel and DC, they want their characters to never marry! It's more believable that someone would trade their marriage to Satan (I'MMA TALK ABOUT OMD EVENTUALLY!) than live in a happy relationship.
I will never get over how they screwed Kate over with Maggie. They SHOULD have gotten married and stayed together, but no. Gays don't sell, right DC?
It's just so hard to watch Kate fail in her relationships. I get it. Superheroes should never be happy, we need to make them as miserable as possible.
You end up feeling so bad for her when nothing really works out for her. At times, it's just kinda soul sucking to read. Especially when the book is otherwise good, like with Detective Comics Rebirth. The way that book ends is just depressing, despite the attempt to make it a happy ending. I'm convinced that the only reason it ended like it did was to uphold the status quo.
I do like how she ended up becoming Batwoman, she was attacked by some thugs and beat them up before Batman could help her. I was upset when I learned that the Bad Blood movie changed that.
I do like her military background and it speaks good about her character when she doesn't let the risk of getting kicked out stop her from being who she is.
I'm kinda mixed about her being Bruce's cousin. On one hand, it's believable that there were more to the Wayne family tree. On the other, it feels like it's there to be a 'divine right of kings' thing.
I made a deviantart post on this before that site committed seppuku that went into this, but it REALLY felt like a very convenient stretch that she and Bruce were related. I'm sure there's some comic that explains that it was all the Joker's plan to make her Batwoman or some stupid crap like that.
That's pretty much all I can think of to talk about with her. Except that I really like the idea of her being very bad at flirting. I absolutely loved that scene where she met Renee in Bad Blood and her bad flirting sold me on those two as a couple.
I hope you enjoyed this little thing, but I have a suspicion that this will be overshadowed by the Rick and Morty review coming out alongside this one. Spoilers, I don't like that show. Take Batwoman stuff instead. At least the comics can actually be self aware and I mean actually self aware.
