"No, you can't become a hero."
Those words broke the spirit of Midoriya Izuku. His idol, his last hope, his only chance of becoming a hero said no to his dream.
"It's too dangerous to do hero work without a quirk. Regardless, you can still become a policeman or firefighter. They might not get as much attention as being a pro hero, but they are still admirable heroes," All Might said as he walked to the door.
"Sometimes, it's better to dream realistically," he said before he disappeared behind the door.
Izuku stood there, motionless. His idol denied him of being a hero just because he was quirkless. He slowly walked towards the edge of the building, looking over the scenery with tears running down his face.
'You knew it all along, didn't you, Izuku? You tried to believe in doing something you can't do,' Izuku climbed over the railing. 'Kacchan's right. I'm sorry Mom. I hope you'll be happy now that I'm gone.' And with that, Izuku let himself fall off the ledge. But before he managed to hit the ground and become a pancake, he was roughly grabbed by his uniform as the figure jumped around and landed in a nearby alleyway. The savior put Izuku on the ground in a not-so-gently manner that left him gasping for air.
"H-huh?!" Izuku looked at himself and roamed his hands over his body. No injuries were on him except for the bruise he got from Kacchan earlier. He looked at his savior and heard her foot tapping rapidly in impatience.
"What the hell was that for?! Trying to jump off buildings like that. Are you trying to kill yourself for Kami's sake?" His savior was a 5'2" woman with tanned skin wearing a sleeveless white leotard with purple trimmings, showing her muscular arms and legs. She also had purple thigh-high boots and the shoes were shaped like rabbit's feet. Though, the most noticeable features about her were her long white hair and a pair of white rabbit ears on her head. This was…
"Y-you're the Rabbit Hero: Mirko! You're currently in 12th place on the charts." Izuku was about to go on a mutter spree when he was whacked on the head by the said hero.
"Brat! I'm not here to listen to your ramble. Now answer me, what were you thinking?! Jumping from a tall building like that. What are you? Trying to strengthen your quirk or something?" she huffed. When Izuku heard the term 'quirk', he deflated, causing the rabbit hero to raise her eyebrow.
"Mirko-san," he started quietly. "I don't have a quirk," he muttered, but the heroine managed to hear with her acute sense of hearing.
"Quirkless huh," she wondered. She walked around Izuku, inspecting, and prodding him with her finger. "So kid, what do you want to be?" she suddenly asked.
"W-What?" he stammered at the question.
"What do you want to be in the future, kid? You're the first quirkless person I've ever seen and I wanna know," she pressed on.
"I-I don't know… You'll think it's impossible. E-Even All Might said so," tears were streaming down his face as he remembered what transpired earlier.
"No dream is impossible if you have the will," she smirked. "Do you think I was born strong? I have a rabbit quirk for Kami's sake. Others say I'm supposed to be cute and cuddly. Well look at me now, I'm badass and kicking villains' butts. Now, what's your dream kid?"
"I-I…" He steeled himself as he looked into the heroine's eyes. "I want to be a hero! I want to save everyone with a smile, just like All Might," he shouted.
She smirked and gave him a hard pat on the back, "That's the spirit! As long as you train hard, you can become a hero! Don't listen to what others say. As long as you do the work and have the drive, nothing is impossible." Izuku was crying from the declaration. He can become a hero. Someone believed him. Inside him, something cracked. Like a dam, something began flowing out of the crack as it began to unknowingly give Izuku power. Before he got to thank Mirko, an explosion occurred. Mirko's ears stood straight as she locked on to the sound.
"Sorry kid, but I gotta go. You can see me beat that villain's ass later," she winked as she hopped off to the destination. Izuku wasn't able to reply but seeing his smile was a message well received in her eyes. Izuku tried to follow her to the site to no avail. She was too fast for him. He just followed the noise and ran as fast as he could. What he never noticed though was his pace was a lot faster than what he could have achieved before. Once he arrived, he saw a crowd around the area and pushed through it. Once he got to the front, it was a terrifying sight.
There was the sludge villain from before, causing havoc using explosions. Mirko was on the scene, trying to find a way to defeat him.
"What are the other heroes doing? Mirko is the only one trying to fight that thing!"
"The others can't get to the villain because he has a hostage in his hands. Mirko is the only one fast enough that can get to the boy and save him."
As Mirko charged in and managed to grab the hostage's shirt, the sludge villain acted quicker than anyone could see. He immediately latched on to the heroine's arm and with that, trapped her. She was about to use her strength to pull back but her legs were also ensnared by the slime. She tried to get herself free, but it only caused her to get deeper within the sludge villain's body.
"Ha! Look at what we have here, two meat suits for me to use. One is a hero and the other has a strong quirk. You can't stop me now," the villain bragged. Izuku looked on and was surprised to see Kacchan as the hostage. He then looked at Mirko and noticed her looking at him. She gave him a sad smile as she tried to free her way to no avail as if saying 'I can't win, I'm sorry.'
Seeing Kacchan's look of horror, pleading for help, and Mirko's sorrowful smile as her ears drooped, Izuku ran. His legs moved before he could react. Once he got to his senses, he noticed himself running to the villain. As he ran, he looked around and found a mochi mallet on top of the debris. He grabbed it and removed his backpack to give him more speed. Determined to save them both, he ran as if his life depended on it. Inside, the cracks were becoming wider as the pressure was strong. It gave him a power boost unlike never before. With one swift dash, he was already in front of the villain, mallet in mid-swing before the sentient sludge could react. He screamed his loudest as the mallet swung in the direction of the villain's eyes. It did not hit him; however, a gust of wind formed after he swung, hitting the eyes and dispersing the torsos of both the hostages. Putting the mallet in his mouth, he grabbed both of them by the arms and jumped back, pulling them from the sludge's grasp. They were almost free when the villain recovered.
"Argh! You almost made me lose my meat suits. Instead of taking you three, you will die!" The villain was about to shoot tendrils at the trio as Mirko readied a punch to the eye. Before both of them could attack, they were stopped by a shout.
"I am here!" All Might shouted. "Thank you, my boy. You have taught me what it means to be a hero!" He pulled back his fist.
"Oh no," the villain paled.
"Texas Smash!" All Might punched, creating a large gust of wind that dispersed the villain.
"Whoa! All Might defeated him," a citizen said as a drop of water fell on his nose. He looked up to see a sudden downpour of rain.
"All Might changed the weather in a single punch!" another said.
Soon after, Mirko and Kacchan were medically attended. The heroes praised him for his valiant effort in staying alive and punished Izuku for being so reckless. Mirko, who had enough of the others' stupidity, marched on to Death Arms and Kamui Woods and whacked them both on the head.
"You guys are stupid, you know that?!" Death Arms was about to answer but stopped at her glare. "A kid did your work for you. He was a hero more than you could ever be. What were you doing, praising the kid who made your jobs harder? If it wasn't for this kid, we would already be dead by the time you gotta help us and you're thanking him by getting angry? What a showoff. I'll take this kid and if any of you follow me, you get a one-way trip to the hospital." She glared at the ashamed heroes one more time before grabbing Izuku by the back of his uniform and jumped.
They were already far off from the crowd when they arrived on an empty rooftop. This time, she set Izuku down gently. Izuku looked at her in confusion as she faced the railing, leaning on it as she surveyed the other buildings.
"Thank you," she muttered.
"I-I'm sorry?" he asked.
"I said thank you, you idiot!" she said louder, still not facing him as her ears drooped.
"A-Ah! No, I should thank you for trying to save Kacchan," he bowed repeatedly. She looked at him with her ears straight up. She smirked as she looked at him.
"You would make a fine hero one day," she said. Before Izuku could respond, the dam inside him broke, and something swarmed through it with strong pressure, overloading his body. He hunched over in pain as it was getting stronger and stronger.
"Kid, what's wrong?" she was alarmed and already by his side.
"I… I don't know," he gasped before the pain reached its peak and he screamed.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
