AN: As you probably saw in the last chapter, I used many references from the show, but decided to let out some parts. Especially the part with Meredith wanting to move back to New York. I think it didn't fit my story. Anyway, here's chapter 11.
Enjoy :D
Chapter 11
The trip to the hospital was pure hell for Kate. Thank god Rick was there to drive because she couldn't do it. She tried to call her dad, but his phone was turned off. That made her even nervous. Her baby was perfectly fine, so what happened all of a sudden? When Castle got in the parking lot, she all but ran out the door to be there for Alexis, before he could find a parking spot. She spotted her dad in the waiting room, and he seemed exhausted.
"Dad! What happened?"
"Oh, Katie. We were playing and then her nose started to bleed, and she fainted. I'm so sorry, Katie. I wish I had taken better care of her."
"No, dad. This is not your fault."
"Did you come here on your own?"
"No. Rick drove. He's outside."
Like he knew Kate and Jim were talking about him, Rick came into the waiting room in a rush.
"What happened? Is she alright? Did the doctors say something?"
"No. I'm waiting for someone to tell me about Alexis's condition since I sent that text to Katie. We were playing and her mood changed in a few seconds. She was pale and then her nose started to bleed, and she fainted."
'Poor baby' Rick was about to say, but the doctor called them.
"Alexis's Beckett?"
"Yes, we are her family. I'm Kate Beckett, Alexis's mother." Kate said while holding Castle's hand. Neither of them got a chance to think about Kate considering him part of her family. Alexis was more important than that.
"What happened to my granddaughter?"
"I am Alyson Miller, the doctor responsible for Alexis's case. She suffers from mild thrombocytopenia. The platelet level is lower than we expected. This can be a temporary condition if she can get a blood transfusion. Normally, in cases of mild thrombocytopenia, we don't do the blood transfusion, but because of Alexis's age, we are a little concerned. I need to go back to do more tests, but please, ask your friends and family to come, because we need to see if the baby is compatible with one of you, and soon." And with that Doctor Miller left.
To say the three adults were shocked was an understatement. Kate started to cry while in Rick's arm, and Jim needed to take a seat.
"I can't lose her. I can't lose my baby, Rick."
"I know. She's very important to me and I'll do anything to keep her safe. Let's take a seat. I'll call my mother to come here, Montgomery too, and you can call Espo, Ryan, and Lanie."
"Thank you!"
"For what?"
"For being here, for caring about Alexis."
"Always, Kate! I care about all of you. The last thing I want is to know you're not feeling well. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to make some calls."
"Yeah, me too."
An hour later, the waiting room was full of people. Besides Kate's team, best friend and boss, and Rick's mother, there were Ann Hastings, Roz Karpowski, and LT too.
"Kate, I talked with the robbery team, and they told me they're gonna be here if the doctors can't find someone with the same blood type as Alexis."
Still in Rick's arms, Kate thanked Montgomery. She didn't care that her colleagues saw them together. She needed some comfort and Rick was very good at providing it.
A few minutes later, Rick went to the cafeteria to get something for Kate to eat, and of course, coffee.
"Hey, sweetie. How are holding it? And please don't lie to me."
"I don't want to lose her."
"And you won't. It's a good thing they found out about this now. Everything is going to be okay."
"I hope so."
"I know so. Now tell me something. When was Lanie Parish wrong?" When Kate didn't say anything, her best friend continued.
"Exactly. You can't think about that, because I'm always right." That made Kate smile.
"And it's a good thing Rick is here for you." Kate gave her 'the look'.
"What? I'm not blind, you know. Even if you didn't say it, I know you two are dating. I even tried to get you two together, but neither of you understood what I want. But I'm happy for you. Rick's good for both you and Alexis."
"He cares about Alexis so much. It's something natural for Rick to be around her like he does this every day. I thought that if I will date someone, he wouldn't care about my baby, but Rick proved to me how wrong I was. He even called at night to say 'goodnight' to her if we didn't saw each other that day. Alexis didn't go to bed until Rick called like she knew he was about to do it. Sometimes I think they have a connection because when he's coming, Alexis knows exactly when he's going to enter the apartment."
"Well, kids can feel some things."
Right then, Rick came from the cafeteria and Doctor Miller came out and was looking for Kate.
"What a great team we have here. Is everyone ready, Kate?"
All of them responded at once. Until then, Kate didn't see that the robbery team was already here. Even the mayor came with a few people.
"Alright. I can't take all of you with me, only 4 at a time. The rest of you, please wait here until me or my colleagues will come for you. Thank you! Now, who's the first team?"
Kate, Jim, Rick, and Lanie went with the doctor.
"The tests would take around 10 minutes, and we'll have the results in another 20 or 30 minutes after everyone did the tests. I asked my colleagues from the laboratory to hurry with the results."
"Thank you, doctor!" Kate and Rick said at the same time.
One hour and a half later, a nurse came to take Kate to Doctor Miller's office.
"Please Kate, take a seat."
"Is something wrong, doctor?"
"I have bad news and good news."
"Please tell me my baby is fine."
"Alexis is fine. It's about the results." Kate motioned for Doctor Miller to continue.
"Alright. So, I'll tell you the bad news first. I know you adopted Alexis, so it was possible from the start for your blood type to not be a match for Alexis's. I'm sorry, but you're not compatible."
Kate's heart clenched. Yes, she thought about this, she was aware of it. But to hear it? That broke her heart.
"So, what's the good news then?" she asked through tears.
"We find a perfect match. The two of them are 94.9 compatible."
After a few minutes, Kate came back into the waiting room.
"Rick, can we talk?"
"Sure. Is everything okay?"
"My blood doesn't match Alexis's, but they find someone."
"That's great. Who is it?"
"You. You're a perfect match."
"I don't understand. What does that mean?" Kate took a deep breath and told him.
"Rick, you're Alexis's dad. She's your daughter."
This chapter was hard for me to write because my grandfather suffered from thrombocytopenia. I tried to make it as close to reality as I could. I know that probably something is wrong with it, but I hope you'll like it.
