Chapter 3:
Trying to rid my mind and thoughts of what had just happened, I headed to first period with Dylan. This was the only class that all three of us didn't have together, and frankly, I was happy to be away from Liam after what had just happened. I mean what had just happened? It was so confusing and the fact that he just walked away from Dylan and I without even saying anything was just disturbing. I mean who does this kid think he is?
As the teacher began giving the class directions on what to do during the class period I could feel her staring at me the whole time she was talking. On normal occasions, this wouldn't be that big of a deal because I'm not the greatest of students and I doesn't help that I've been kicked out of almost every school in New York, but something just put me on edge while she was staring at me. It could've been what had just happened with Liam, or maybe it was the fact that it wasn't even our normal first-period teacher Mrs. Castian this was a substitute teacher.
After Ms. T (I guess that's what she wanted us to call her) got through the main directions of what we should do for the rest of the class period. She sat down and just stared at me. I ignored her and pulled out the stupid assignment, sat down next to Dylan, and began to talk to him.
"So do you want to talk about what happened earlier?" I asked him, but I got no response from him. Which was unusual because there is normally nothing that we can't discuss.
A few minutes later I tried talking to him again, "Ummm… so how are you doing on your assignment?" I should've known not to ask him that question because he hadn't even gotten out a pencil instead he continued to sit still and stare at the ground.
Finally, I couldn't take it anymore and I tried one last time to get him to talk to me, "Dylan you good?" and this time I got a response.
"Mya… what was that thing? And why did it call Liam 'Lord'? Also, what is a half-blood?" I didn't know how to respond because I was wondering the same thing. Why was it so unsettling I mean half-blood seemed like the worst insult you could receive, yet somehow also the best. Everything just made my head hurt but luckily Ms. T didn't like that Dylan and I weren't doing our work.
"Mya and Dylan may I see you out in the hall… now!" She said both coldly and forcefully.
We both glanced at each other, but I tried to make light of the situation so I shrugged and smiled at Dylan, and together we headed to the door.
I expected Ms. T just to take us outside the door and scold us for not doing our work and then have us reenter the classroom and get to work, but she had other ideas. Ms. T led the two of us down the hallway far from our classroom and stopped outside a janitor closet. She opened the door and ushered us inside, but me and ADHD had other ideas.
"Sorry Ms. T but this is how kids our age and younger get kidnapped or killed, and I don't think there is room for all three of us in there." I was being completely serious but it must've sounded pretty funny because Dylan snorted a little.
Ms. T didn't think that I was funny like Dylan did though, and instead, she turned to me and said, "I don't care what you think Mya Gethern. Do what I say and it will be a lot easier for both of you in the end." I decided that the best idea was to probably listen to her and hope this little meeting would be over quickly, so I followed Dylan into the tiny closet. Let me just tell you that was probably one of the worst things I have ever done, and I've done some pretty stupid things before.
When Ms. T shut the door behind her that is when all chaos broke loose and I got blamed for blowing up a school.
She turned towards the two of us and started talking, "You know after the second Titan war I never thought that I would see a child of the sea and a child of thieves get along, but I guess there's always room to fix old grudges." Ms. T looked at both of us like we knew what she was talking about, but we just stood there staring at her. "Really, Dylan, out of the two of you I thought that you would know more considering your… past experiences."
The way she talked about Dylan's past it not only seemed like she'd met him before, and personally knew he was a… bad person. But there was no way he could be a bad person. I mean he's been my best friend almost my whole life, and he has moved from every school I've gotten kicked out of to the next one with me. So how would he know Ms. T and I don't know her? I mean she's just some substitute teacher. Before I could ask her any of the questions that I had Dylan spoke up.
"I'm sorry have we met before because I've never met you before?" By the sound of his voice, he seemed just as confused as me.
"Ah, you probably don't know me by this name Ms. T what a truly horrible name it has no power whatsoever. What if I said my name was Kelli does that bring back any memories?" right after Ms. T said her name was actually Kelli Dylan stumbled and almost hit his head on one of the shelves behind him.
"I know that name I don't know how but I know that name! Who are you? What do you want from me?" Dylan shouted at Kelli.
"Now now calm down I'll make your death quick. Too bad I can't explain how you know me, but sadly I'm hungry and I've been craving demigod blood since that run-in with Perseus Jackson." Again Dylan stumbled after Kelli said another name which again I didn't recognize. I mean where was Dylan meeting these weird people that he couldn't really remember?
Before I could get my question answered Kelli lunged at Dylan while he was still trying to recover his balance from his last stumble. Everything happened so quickly and honestly, I don't know what happened. I knew I had to protect Dylan from this… crazy lady with one goat leg and a fake bronze leg?! Where did those come from? Again with the question thing it didn't get answered.
Dylan hopped out of the way before Kelli was able to jump on top of him, and before she could lunge at him again I felt this pulling feeling at the bottom of my gut, and I felt pipes from all over the building burst. Most of the water hit Kelli and Dylan, but the bursting of all of the pipes in the building set all the students and teachers into a panic. The pressure from the blast Kelli and Dylan had received sent them both out of the closet door into the middle of the stampede of people in the hallway.
Kelli did not like being wet and to prove my point she turned to me and exploded in a body of flames.
"Look around you Mya what do you think all of these people see? Let me tell you it is not what you see instead it seems like you are trying to light a poor substitute teacher on fire!" Kelli shouted at me. I didn't have time to think I just had to distract Kelli because behind her the dazed Dylan was getting help from Liam. Even though the sight of him made my blood boil and kind of scare me I couldn't risk having Kelli turn around and attack them. Before I could send another blast of water at the vampire-like substitute Liam stepped into the middle of the commotion.
"Stop empousa! I demand you to stop! As you've been informed by your master you should know who I am! I wish you do no more harm to the girl or her friend and I demand you to leave now!" Liam spoke with a strange powerful voice I have never heard him use before, but it clearly worked on Kelli.
"Yes, my Lord as you please, but Mya just to let you know this will not be the last time we meet." With those final words, she exploded into a giant ball of flames and I passed out.
