Danny paled, as his bedroom was suddenly crowded with uninvited guests. His mother, sisters and Embers gal pals all starred at the sight of Ember wrapped around his half naked (hicky covered) body sitting on his bed.
Glares of disappointment shot from his mom. Surprise and amusement from his sisters however it was Desiree and Spectra's looks that baffled him, they looked enticed.
"So… is my house on google maps or something how'd you find me?" Danny demanded more annoyed then angry.
They had all barged into his bedroom, the house is one thing but the bed room was supposed to be sacred. "Sorry baby-pop, they more or less tagged along with me" Ember apologized.
Danny's gaze quickly fell back on the ghostly beauty seated on himself. Ember brought them here? The girl who argued about being a couple just advertised in front of her friends and most of his family, that they were together.
"Daniel, I understand that you're 17 now and living on your own but I feel this needs to be said" Maddie started but Danny quickly cut her off,
"MOM!" he snapped "time and place for that chat I don't think this is either"
With a heavy sigh (and personal objection) Danny lifted Ember from his lap before standing. This is really not how he saw this playing out when Ember jumped him.
"Danny, mom is just concerned and to be fair you've kept a fair few things from them, first Danielle and now Ember…"
"Wait a minute is the pipsqueak Phantoms daughter?" Spectra interjected with raised eye brows. "is Emy slang for mommy?"
"Penny, Kitty, Desiree lets go. Baby-pop I'll meet you at the club later seems like you may have your hands full for the evening" Ember giggled as she ushered her friends out the door leaving Danny outnumbered with his mother and sisters "ladies and gentlemen this is the woman I want a relationship with Danny muttered as he watched Ember abandon him. "okay let me have it" he groaned.
"Where do I even begin Danny! Ember McClain? Did you forget that she has tried to not only conquer the world but also kill you!? That she was an enemy for years! What exactly broke inside your head to consider her as a potential partner? And I say partner because I cannot fathom that it's just casual with you knowing I raised you better!"
Embarrassment flooded through Danny like a river breaking a damn as he buried his face in his hands. Once more he was under interrogation, twice in one day. "Mom, dial it back please. Ember was an enemy, but since the truce we got to talking and hanging out much like plenty of other ghosts, including those who work in the phantom zone, she was just angry over her death. I really like her and I thought you'd said you would try to be more understanding of my choices. Ember is an amazing person if you need a second opinion on that ask Danielle"
Outside the door Ember and her friends were sitting and listening. A deep redness had set in Embers flustered cheeks. It wasn't like she didn't know how Danny felt but it stirred her to hear him defend her against his own family. Her friends on the other hand were grinning very smugly.
"So, this thing with Phantom is a thing then?" Desiree asked with a raised eyebrow, this was a turn none of them (Except maybe Kitty) foresaw. Ember Mclain having affection for Danny Phantom. Although in truth they couldn't say it wasn't possible. Ember did have a unique taste in the opposite sex.
"No, we…we're not a couple" Ember replied. The frown on her face and ache in her core betrayed her words but Ember was choosing to stand by them. She had been hurt and hurt badly in the past and no Danny wasn't to blame by any means unfortunately he was just the one trying to fix the damage caused by someone else.
"You're not a couple? Ember if you can't see everything in front of you then you are blind sister, he's in there defending to his mother why he's with you. Hell he's happy with you according to the little one and you were pretty damn content in his arms in there stop lying to yourself and admit you two are a thing" Kitty argued crossing her arms in protest.
"Cause if you don't, one of his fan girls is likely to try and wedge herself into his heart and his bed" Desiree added. Her added remark brought a scowl to the rockers face as the image of a certain pink fan girl came to mind,
"Look at how mad she's getting" Spectra teased "stop hiding it not like any one is going to threaten or try to kill you these days, a year ago sure but not anymore Phantom's in everybody's good books, even if he is a royal pain in the ass"
"there you go Ember if Penny can say that then there's no reason…" Kitty's speech quickly died as she saw Embers eyes. She remembered Embers story, "he's not Bryan Ember Danny can make you happy, don't you deserve that?"
Ember continued to glare at Kitty. Bryan Baxter, the King of Casper high in her day; was also the jerk faced douche who caused her death. In no way what so ever was it fair that Ember was holding him against Danny but pain is a powerful master. "I know Kitty, believe me I know but what if… in the end Baby-pop realises I'm no good and…"
"I'm sorry you don't understand mom but this is my choice! If I get burned then so be it, I really like her and… when I'm with Ember I don't feel like Phantom; like the object of fame. I feel like Fenton the high school kid I feel…human. Scared and excited most of all I'm happy. Yes, Embers…complicated, but she's got a history and a tough one at that. I can't relate to hers on any level but to be fair how many people can?"
Neither Maddie nor Jazz had a proper response. Danny was speaking from his heart and they knew it. While Jazz could try to understand why Danny wanted to be with Ember she couldn't help but see the potential thesis before her, Sure ghost envy was her doctorate thesis but this, a new world of study humans and ghost dating a new genre of couples counselling. "mom" she gently spoke up "maybe we shouldn't be so quick to judge, Danny on his own Is a unique case he's half ghost too how many suitable partners would there be for him if he was just to pursue human girls? Police officers have the highest divorced rate of any profession, safe to say Danny would be categorized with them in terms of hours of demand. He's constantly swarmed where he goes, everyone treats him like an object so much so that he and Tucker can't even go to the Nasty burger without being harassed for an autograph. Whereas Ember, being Danny Phantom might have been a turn off for her right? Being a hero might be something she didn't care for. She may very well be the only girl who likes him for who he is and not what he is"
Danny smiled at Jazz with immense gratitude and pride. He could always count on Jazz for support she might not fully approve but she always supported him. "Thanks Jazz" he grinned.
"I agree with Jazz mom, Emy really seemed like a good person when I met her, aside from the times I heard their play fighting getting rough she never tried to hurt him" Danielle chimed in. as much as Danny wanted to appreciate her input, that particular bit might have just condemned him. He watched his mother's eyes suddenly go still and lifeless.
"Thank you Dani" Danny deadpanned "thank you so very much. I suppose this is part where I end up a full ghost?"
