A/N: It has been a while since I posted a story about these two, but here it is. I hope you like it :)
Jade cursed herself for agreeing to this trip as soon as she stood in front of a lot of people she didn't know. After Beck and her had gotten back together he had asked her to come with him to Canada this summer and meet his family. At first she was reluctant to agree, but in the end she wanted to spend the summer with him. That was the reason why she was now in Canada about to be introduced to his family members who lived here. Beck's parents were already hugging an older man and woman and a few had already greeted Beck, but he was glued to her side and for once Jade was glad that he was so protective of her.
Beck was happy that Jade had agreed to come with him to his home country. After they got back together he didn't want to be apart from her for the summer. During their break up he had realized how much she meant to him and how much he loved her, so now he wanted for her to meet his whole family and hopefully she would come to love Canada just as much as he did. When everyone was done welcoming them he introduced Jade.
"Everyone, this is Jade, my girlfriend." He said proudly and pulled her closer to his side. The carefree and happy atmosphere changed at his words and he felt Jade tense under his arm.
From day one Jade had told him that it was a bad idea for her to meet the rest of his family, but he hadn't listened. Jade was sure that now it was even obvious to him that she had been right. She saw how they looked at her piercings and tattoo with judgmental looks and their eyes screamed of disapproval. That was just what she had been worried about. Beck had told her that they would stay with his aunt, but now the woman didn't seem so convinced anymore.
"So why don't we drive to your house now, so we can settle in." Beck's father addressed his sister.
"I don't think so." Beck's aunt protested.
"But you told me that we could stay in your house for the time we're here." Mr. Oliver said.
"Back then I didn't know Beck would date someone like her and even bring her here. My children are going to be scared of her and what would our neighbors think."
Jade had watched the exchange between the siblings quietly, but now she had enough.
"It's not like I want to be here." She said angrily and turned to Beck. "You know what, I'm out of here. This was a stupid idea. I'm taking the next plane back to L.A." With that she turned around and was about to leave, but Beck hold her back.
"My aunt doesn't mean it, right?" Beck faced the middle-aged woman, his voice sharp, but she didn't back down.
"No, I meant everything I said. Just look at her Beck, all the black clothes and make-up. I never thought you would date someone like her. Is this you rebelling once in a while?"
"No. I love her and I think she is beautiful the way she is." Beck raised his voice, something he rarely did.
An old woman looked thoughtfully at the heated exchange between her daughter and grandson. During the phone calls and video chats Beck had always spoken so lovingly about his girlfriend and now she could see that he really meant it. The girl he was so vehemently standing up for looked defensive and angry, but Mary could see behind the facade. The girl's blue eyes looked worried and even a little hurt and the old woman could tell that Jade was uncomfortable. Maybe it was time to step in.
"Beck and Jade can stay with us." She finally announced and all eyes turned to her.
"You really want someone like her in your house?" Beck's aunt asked.
"I agree with Mary, they can stay with us for the time they are here." An old man said and lay an arm around his wife.
"Are you sure that's okay?" Mr. Oliver asked his parents. When they both nodded he sighed and turned to his son. "So are you alright with this arrangement?"
"Of course." Beck said, his voice still sharp and angry. However when he spoke to his girlfriend it turned gentle. "Come on Jade let's get out of here." Not removing his arm from around her waist he led her to his grandparents car and opened the door for her. Without another word to his family he entered the car and waited for his grandparents to arrive.
When George and Mary entered the car the couple was in the middle of fighting.
"I told you that your family would hate me."
"They don't hate you." Beck tried to calm her down.
"So let me get this straight, your aunt's words were hidden compliments and the way they looked at me was friendly?" Jade's voice was harsh.
"I didn't say that." Beck nervously ran a hand through his hair. "Just give them a chance Jade. Please, for me."
"I'm only here because of you." Jade's voice got quieter.
"I know and I'm happy that you're here. It wasn't a good start I know, but I promise you that tomorrow it'll be better, alright?" Jade didn't say anything and Beck took that as an okay from her. He kissed her softly. "I love you." He told her when they pulled away.
Only now the couple seemed to realize that they weren't alone in the car anymore. The old woman was the first to break the ice while the man next to her started the car.
"I'm Beck's grandma, but you can call me Mary and this is my husband George. Beck has told us so much about you."
"Judging by the reaction I just got from the others he must have told you that I eat puppies for breakfast." Jade replied sarcastically and was surprised that her harsh words earned her a chuckle from Beck's grandpa.
"I would think that too if I were you, but Beck only told us how talented you are and that you have a fascinating personality. Meeting you now, I have to agree with him."
"So you don't think I'm beautiful?" Jade asked her boyfriend after George had said that.
"Of course I think that, you're just amazing babe."
Content with his words Jade turned back to the front where she saw Mary watching their exchange through the rearview mirror. To her surprise she could see a smile on the older woman's face and not the critical look the rest of Beck's family had given her a few minutes ago. With Beck's arm around her and two of his relatives not completely hating her at first sight, Jade felt herself relax a little.
Beck talked with his grandparents on the way to their house and she even answered when they asked her a question. When they arrived at a small house in a beautiful landscape Jade saw how George opened the car door for his wife and a few seconds later her door was opened by Beck. Slowly Jade could see where Beck had his gentlemanly manners from. Sure, she was an independent woman, but from time to time it was okay that he showed her affection this way and right now she could really use it after the first meeting with his family had gone so wrong.
"So I thought you two could stay in Beck's old room while you're here. The bed should be big enough even for two people." Mary told them after they went inside.
"You don't have a problem with us sleeping in the same bed?" Jade couldn't hide her surprise.
"Beck told us that you two almost live together in that RV of his, so why should we separate you when you're quite comfortable with being so close to each other." George agreed with his wife.
Beck smiled at his grandparents in thanks and led his girlfriend up the stairs to his old room while Jade was still trying to understand why his grandparents weren't so strict. If that had been her father's parents they probably wouldn't have let them sleep in the same room let alone in the same bed, but Jade was glad that her and Beck wouldn't be separated. Sighing she sat down on the bed after they had entered the room. So far this trip didn't go too well for her and she couldn't help but be frustrated about it. Not one to hold back her emotions in front of Beck, she voiced her thoughts immediately.
"Your family would be so much happier if you were dating Vega." Jade said sarcastically, but Beck could see the sadness in her eyes.
So far his relatives, with the exception of his grandparents, had been awful to Jade and it seemed that slowly it took a toll on her. Beck knew that his girlfriend normally didn't care what others thought of her, but she had come to Canada for him to meet his family because she knew how much they meant to him and now it was turning out like this.
"Probably." Beck shrugged and sat down next to her, before softly turning Jade's face so he could look deeply into her eye. "But I only love you and they have to deal with it."
Jade didn't say these three important words back, but the passionate kiss she gave him told him that she loved him just as much as he loved her. This vacation wasn't going too well so far, but Beck really hoped it would turn out alright and his family would accept Jade with time.
"You know, my grandparents seem to like you." Beck said after they pulled away.
"For now. I'm sure they will come to hate me just as much as your other relatives, after all we will be living with them here for a while, so they are bound to hate me."
"I don't think so." Beck reassured her and softly pulled her closer.
At first Jade thought he only said that to make her feel better, but he looked confident and now that she thought about it he might be right. When she had first met his grandparents they didn't seem so judgmental and the smiles they gave her seemed honest, she could tell which ones were fake from the numerous ones she received from her father's new wife. Was it really possible that the old couple somehow liked her? Jade shook her head, that wasn't going to happen. She was sure that as soon as they got to know her better they would just hate her like the rest of Beck's relatives.
A knock on the door interrupted the comfortable silence that had settle over the couple and a few seconds later they heard Beck's grandma called them to dinner. When they sat down at the table Jade immediately saw the cup of coffee in front of her and raised an eyebrow.
"Beck told me that you love coffee and after the day you just had I'm sure you could use one. Black with two sugars right?" Mary asked, smiling at her.
Jade only nodded and took a sip of it. If she was honest with herself she had to admit that Canadian coffee was alright.
"Not as worse as I thought it would be." She finally announced after setting the cup down.
"Careful or you'll end up liking Canada." George chuckled.
"I doubt that." Jade smirked, but despite her comment the carefree atmosphere on the table didn't disappear.
Beck had watched the exchange between his girlfriend and grandparents with a small smile on his face. Jade was wrong if she thought these two would judge her only because she loved to be sarcastic. His grandparents had always been open-minded people and so different from the rest of his family. They would give Jade a chance and not only see her dark make-up and clothes and sometimes rude attitude. Beck really hoped that with time his girlfriend would realized that she could let her walls down around his grandparents and be just like she was when he was alone with her.
"So Jade you're going to Hollywood Arts with Beck, what are your talents?" Mary asked friendly.
When Jade talked about her art Mary could see that she was just as passionate about it as Beck was. Her grandson smiled lovingly at his girlfriend when she told them about her new script and Mary could see that he was proud of her. Beck rarely showed much emotions, but with Jade he seemed genuinely happy.
They talked for a while and after dinner Jade could admit that Mary and George were alright and that she might even like them a bit. The rest of Beck's family however was like she had thought they would be. His aunt had probably a stable opinion about her already and wouldn't change it. Sighing she looked out of the bedroom window when she felt two strong arms encircle around her waist.
"What are you thinking about babe?"
"This trip..." She turned in his arms so she could look into his eyes. "...your family."
"I know it wasn't a perfect start, but they will come to love you just as much as I do." He softly stroked her cheek.
"Somehow I doubt that."
"They will come around." Beck smiled reassuringly at her and leaned down for a passionate kiss.
This night when they lay in bed together and he had Jade in his arms, Beck couldn't help but be thankful that she had agreed to come to Canada with him. He wanted her to meet his whole family and show her his home country because he was serious about their relationship and wanted her to be a full part of his family. It was probably too early to think about their future, but Beck couldn't imagine his life without her.
