Chapter 15:
"What was that?" I shouted at Dylan when we were a few blocks away from where we had seen Hermes.
"Why are you defending them, Mya? After everything they've put us through, why are you defending them?" Dylan asked.
"Because I have some common sense!" I scuffed, "I'm going to constantly be compared to Percy for the rest of my life because technically I'm his sister, and if I make one mistake I'll be considered as 'not good enough!"
"Well, you may be some big shot like Percy, but at least you're not a reborn enemy! Do you see the way people look at me! They pity me or they're scared of me! I've done nothing wrong in fact I've been pretty close to perfect my whole life and I get repaid by my… a god claiming me and saying 'Hey I would've helped you with your abusive mother but I got busy! Also, I'm proud that you were able to survive that now here's your next challenge!'" He shouted at me.
"He didn't tell me he was proud of you!" I regretted that as soon as I said it.
"What did you say?" Dylan spat.
"That night he visited camp he didn't say anything about you. He gave me my gifts and left. I made it up. I told you he was proud of you when you asked because I didn't want to hurt you." I told him softly.
Dylan began to fume and I knew he was going to explode on me.
Liam placed his hand on Dylan's shoulder, "It's not worth it." Liam whispered.
"You're right." Dylan sighed, "She's not worth my breath. Have fun with your quest, Mya." They both walked away together, and when they rounded a corner I realized that I was now on my own.
…
'I have to get to New Rome.' I thought, 'But I have no way to get there.'
I walked down the sidewalk right outside the Empire State Building thinking of a way to get to California.
I got a cab and asked the driver to take me to The Battery. I figured the closer to the ocean I got the better chance I had of getting help from my father.
After a short taxi ride, I arrived at the battery. As soon as the taxi drove away I became uneasy. I looked around and saw nothing. Just for extra precaution, I allowed my armor to appear and summoned my trident. Chiron had explained the Mist very quickly to me before I left camp, and from what I understood it would more or less hide my armor and weapons from mortals. Knowing that I made my way through the park towards the water.
Every time the wind picked up even a little bit I jumped thinking Eros was there. He never started talking to me but you can't figure out if you're being stalked by an invisible man if you can't… well see him.
Finally, I reached the water before I lowered myself to the surface I checked my surroundings one last time. That's when I saw her. Kelli or Ms. T stood across the park staring at me. I tried the best I could to act like I hadn't seen her but a small smile spread across her face every time I looked back at her.
Kelli began to walk towards me and I began to freak out. 'I should just kill her!' one side of me thought. 'You're not strong enough! If you can't keep your friends by your side how will you be able to defeat her?' the other side of me countered. I looked behind me and saw her getting closer. I turned toward the water and the wind picked up. Everyone in the park began to rush around probably trying to get away from the water and find shelter.
I looked at the water trying to make my mind up as quickly as I could. Again the wind shifted, "Trust your gut!" Annabeth's voice was lost in the wind.
"You should be terrified of whoever was able to get love on their side of the war because they have to have power to control my domain and me!" I looked back behind me as Eros' voice was also lost in the wind. Kelli kept getting closer to me and her smile kept getting bigger. I was sure she could tell how terrified I was.
"Why are you defending them, Mya? After everything they've put us through, why are you defending them?" Dylan's voice was gone with the wind, and I fell to my knees. The wind didn't seem to affect Kelli at all.
"You really thought I wouldn't find you, Mya? You're weak without your one friend, and now that you've been claimed by Poseidon it will feel great to ill you to get back at your brother!" Kelli shouted over the wind. I tried to force myself up but the wind held me down.
"Stop hiding behind Eros, Kelli! Fight me for real!" I shouted at the monster.
"Let me think about it. No," she told me. I continued to struggle against the wind. That's when it came to me if I couldn't get to my feet I could get lower to the ground, and hopefully get to the water.
"So where are your friends?" Kelli snarled while glancing around her nervously. 'She doesn't know they left me!' I thought excitedly.
"Wouldn't you like to know?" I laughed. That wasn't the answer that she wanted because she began to kick me. If you have never been kicked by a fake bronze leg I wouldn't recommend it, but with each kick, she knocked me a little bit closer to the water.
"Where… are… they?" between each word Kelli paused to kick me. I stalled before answering her mostly because of the pain that was shooting through my body, but also because I noticed how close to the water I was.
"The question you should be asking is why was I kicking the demigod closer to her father's domain?" Kelii's smile disappeared as I rolled off the ledge into the water.
I appeared but this time with a few thousand gallons to share with the monster. I stood on top of a giant wave that loomed over Kelli. The wind didn't affect me or it has disappeared completely, but I wasn't sure. I held my trident in my hand and my armor was activated. A green trident glowed on the front of my chest piece.
Kelli turned to run but her bronze leg failed her with a quick escape. I used the water to pick her up and bring her towards me.
"I don't know what you did to Percy, but I promise you if you ever get anywhere near another demigod I will hunt you down and send you to Tartarus in an even worse way than I'm going to now." I snarled. Kelli tried to escape with her fiery explosion, but the water extinguished the flames. I stuck my trident right into the top of her head and she exploded into dust.
Still standing on top of my giant wave I looked around. I could hear and noticed the wind wasn't as strong as it was before.
"Eros I know you're still out there watching me! Tell whoever you're working for they're up for a challenge in this war! I'm a daughter of Poseidon and I will not step down from any fight that comes my way!" I shouted at the empty park. The wind finally came to a complete stop and I knew Eros was gone.
I lowered myself to the water's surface and used the current to propel myself toward the Upper Bay.
When I reached the Atlantic Ocean I could feel that all of my energy was almost gone. I sent out a call for help, hoping anything would come and help take me to New Rome. Off in the distance, I could see a pod of dolphins approaching me. They got close enough to me and I could hear them speaking.
"Daughter of Poseidon how can we help you?" I heard their voices ringing in my head.
"I need help getting to New Rome," I told them.
"We can get you as close as Huston," they told me.
"That will do," I agreed.
After we got situated and one of them let me ride on their back so I could rest we were off. Now I know most people can't fall asleep on the back of a dolphin while mostly underwater, but I am not most people. So that's exactly what I did.
…
I appeared at Camp Half-Blood. I was on top of Half-Blood Hill, and I didn't see anything out of the ordinary so I guessed that Luke would be joining me.
"Hey, Mya," Luke said when he appeared. I smiled kindly.
I looked at him. He was dressed in all white. His clothes seemed to be made out of pure cotton and they looked comfy. Then I looked behind him and saw the large pine tree holding it's ground and doing it's job protecting camp. 'Just like Thalia protected her friends,' I thought. My smile faded from my face.
"Something wrong?" He looked at me concerned.
"No, I was just thinking," he nodded.
"So how's the quest?" Luke asked me after a few moments of awkward silence.
"Well, to be honest not that great," he studied my face as I talked. "I mean both of my… partners left me, and I'm being stalked by the god of love."
"Eros," Luke said softly, "He's a powerful god."
"Yeah," my voice sounded like a squeak.
We both looked down at camp. I didn't see anyone in the valley, and it seemed too quiet.
"You're wondering why it's quiet aren't you?" I nodded. "I like to allow my spirit to come here, but with no one around. It just helps me think, and let out the little amount of anger I still hold on the inside." Luke's face began to become cold like he was thinking of something terrible.
"What about Thalia?" I said in a whisper.
"What about her? She's alive and a hunter." A huge weight lifted from my shoulders all this time I thought she was dead that dream just must've been fake or something.
"She was dead though," Luke told me.
"How-"
"Kronos made me poison her tree so Percy would go and get the Golden Fleece. Kronos knew it would do more than it was supposed to, and he wanted to have another possible demigod to favor him for the Great Prophecy. But Thalia joined the hunters the winter after she came back." Luke told me. I saw a flash of sorrow glint in his eyes but it disappeared quickly.
"Do you blame yourself for getting her killed, and then trying to kill her after she came back?" I asked him.
He looked at the pine tree behind him and I saw a small smile appear on his face as if he was thinking of something from the past.
"Thalia and I have been on some crazy adventures and together we became Annabeth's first true family. Together we had gotten that knife Annabeth carries around. And I promised…. But it doesn't matter now does it?" I didn't answer him. "I suppose you're getting close to your destination. Good luck, Mya."
I woke up and saw a faded line on the horizon.
"Huston, daughter of Poseidon," one of the dolphins told me. I nodded knowing that I was going to have to continue my journey on my own.
Fairyn~ I'm sorry I just thought it was a perfect ending. Luckily this isn't much a cliffhanger.
Please review and if you want PM me if you have any questions about shifting I can give you some tips considering the fact that I've done it a lot now.
