A couple weeks later, Kyle had got into a new routine and was now working more full shifts with Ricky now on maternity leave and Brax due to take some time off in the next few weeks. He was preparing Lillie's travel bag, trying to find a box of spare nappies before he was late. With Brax at an appointment with Ricky, he needed to go for a meeting with the suppliers, which he was out of practice having not been to one for months.
"Hello!" Marilyn greets from the doorway
"Hey, Marilyn." Kyle smiles as he packs some nappies into the travel bag once he found them.
"Sorry, I'm a bit early." She smiles, walking straight over to Lillie. "Hello Gorgeous."
"She's all ready for you. I fed her an hour ago, she was changed 10 minutes ago and she's due her nap at around midday. I'm sure you know her new routine enough by now though." Kyle chuckles.
"Yes, you go, I've got it sorted here." Marilyn smiles. "I'll take her for a little walk near to her nap, and then we'll be next door. Just let me know when you're ready to pick her up and I'll have her ready."
"Thanks Marilyn." Kyle smiles, saying goodbye to Lillie before grabbing his work bag and leaving.
"Should we go next door and see if John has left yet?" Marilyn coos, smiling down at her. "I bet you he hasn't and then he'll be all flustered about not being on time." She chuckles, lifting the travel bag onto her shoulder before wheeling the pram out of the door, shutting it behind her.
Getting ready for the meeting with the suppliers, Kyle sighed at the state of the desk. Whilst looking for the paperwork he needed, he had made a mess of the place. He still didn't find everything he needed, so was going to have to tidy up whilst finding the rest to make sure he had everything he needed. He was just starting to tidy it all up when the door opened, revealing his older brother.
"Hey mate." Heath awkwardly smiles, shutting the door before walking in further.
"What, Heath?" Kyle huffs, feeling stressed that he didn't give himself more time to find the paperwork.
"Geez, what's got you in such a mood?" Heath asks.
"I can't find the paperwork I needed for a meeting with the suppliers." Kyle says, glancing at his watch. "Which is in 15 minutes!"
"Doesn't Brax keep it in the box files?" Heath asks, pulling one of them down from the shelf.
"Yes!" Kyle exclaims, grabbing it from his brother and pulling the rest of the files out that he needed. "Why're you here?" He asks, collecting the papers up from the desk to sort out when he got back.
"I was just letting you know that Casey extended his travels again. They're staying in Spain longer after meeting other travellers." Heath says.
"And you're not complaining about it to me again? What's changed?" Kyle scoffs.
"Didn't want to fall out with you again. I just wanted to apologise for last time." Heath says.
"It was weeks ago, it doesn't matter." Kyle says, noticing his brother hovering. "Unless there's something else?"
"I just don't want you to think I'm ungrateful for the things Brax has done for us. I'd be in prison if it wasn't for him… You would have loved growing up with us." Heath mutters.
"I said it in the heat of the moment, Heath. You were just lucky to not have been put into care homes, that Brax was willing to change his life around to look after you and Casey. I'm glad I'm here now, it's nice." Kyle lightly smiles, stacking the papers on the side of the desk.
"I hope I didn't bring anything bad up, I was just annoyed and I shouldn't have-"
"Heath, seriously it's fine. Yeah it wasn't the best time of my life but I've dealt with it. Living here actually helped, I now know that a place like that wasn't standard across all kids homes and I was just unlucky. There's no need to stress about it." Kyle says, glancing at his brother before looking back at the papers he needed to make sure he had them in the right order. "Why're you bringing this up after two weeks anyway, I know it's not because of me thinking you'd be ungrateful?"
"I just feel like you've been avoiding me since it happened and then Brax had a go at me for lying to him about it. Oh and Bianca said I'm sleeping on the couch unless I make things right with you." Heath says.
"Well one, I haven't been avoiding you, I've just picked up more hours here. And two, you deserved it for lying to Brax when you knew he would have come to me asking what happened." Kyle smirks.
"I hardly lied! I just left a few details out." Heath huffs, folding his arms defiantly. "I was manager of the gym first, then Casey decided to be a personal trainer as well and Brax just handed half of my share over like it was nothing. He needs to be treating us fairly, especially when Casey has extended his trip for the hundredth time!"
"How did I know you were going to moan again?" Kyle mutters. "Casey is enjoying his life with the girl of his dreams, why are you complaining about that? I'd have liked to visit other countries as well if I didn't have Lillie or probation rules to listen to."
"You've still got to listen to them?" Heath frowns, having thought it had ended already.
"My probation officer said Casey called him a few months ago and asked him to see if he could change it. I've now only got 2 months left until I am officially a free man." Kyle lightly smirks. "I suppose it's better than being in jail, but I'm not even allowed to leave the state without asking him first!"
"Why did Casey call him?" Heath frowns.
"I was just saying how one day I'd like to go to Italy because it's where my mum grew up, and I was born there, but I couldn't consider it because of my probation. This was before I knew about Lillie, which has changed my life around and made me broke, but it's still an option for me one day." Kyle says.
"Least Casey didn't ask him to change it to community service instead." Heath smirks. "Wouldn't neon orange have brought out your eyes?" He laughs, ruffling his bothers hair, which he knew annoyed him.
"Heath!" Kyle moans, flattening it as much as he could.
"Anyway, you know we'd look after Lillie for you if you ever decided to go. It's not like we weren't the ones to help you get her into a routine when she first came to us." Heath says.
"Yeah, but I don't think I could spend a couple weeks away from her. I might wait until she's a bit older, then take her with me. Ricky was saying it's easy to get her put onto my passport, as she's only a baby, so I've got options." Kyle says, glancing at his watch. "Right, I've got to get to that meeting, catch you later." He says, grabbing the paperwork and heading towards the office door.
"See ya." Heath says, scoffing at the sight of the desk before walking out himself.
Nearing midday, Marilyn had decided to take Lillie for a walk as it was nearing the time for her nap. She put the travel bag around the pram before lifting Lillie up and placing her in the pram. She shifted the blanket around Lillie before glancing around to make sure she had everything she would need.
"Oh, I nearly forgot about your spare baby grow in the dryer." Marilyn says, stroking Lillie's cheek with her finger. "I best go and get it before we go in case you have any little accidents on our walk."
She smiles down at Lillie before quickly heading into the hallway to grab the baby grow from the dryer. Walking back into the living room, she went to place it into the bag as she looked at the pram, her breath being taken away. It was empty - Lillie wasn't there, and the front door was now slightly ajar.
