Guilty of Humanity - Insanlik Sucu - Episode 9
The very rich and the very poor sides of the Gokdemir Holdings Company heirs come face to face in an eight part series whose finale gives a glimpse of the hero and heroine coming together but leave to much to the imagination to make this story anywhere near completion. Brief summaries of each episode will bring us to the continuation that is needed to make this story complete
Episode 1
Cemal Gokdemir is the opening seen is a waiter narrating his poor existence Adana whereby he serves people throw away more than he makes just with their left over meals. His anger is ignited when the pharmacy would give the needed medication for his dieing father simply because he is short a few liras. His father dieing words to him were find your uncle and take what is rightfully yours. Sami Gokdemir a billionaire and his family make their appearance at the funeral but the snobbish looking down at the poverty stricken side of their family are embarrassed and want nothing to do with them . Cemal gets his first look at Suna Degirmenci the beautiful and good fiancé of Gokhan Gokdemir the son of Sami and Emel. When Sami tries to invite Cemal to Istanbul his family erupts in displeasure as to why he would do such a thing to embarrass them so. Cemal angrily dismisses his uncle for to little to late that with all their wealth Sami waited till the death of his brother to make himself known.
Episode 2
Cemal being on the run for a traffic accident with his friend Selim takes a bus to Istanbul to take up on his Uncles offer and escape the police that are trying to pin a murder charge on him for the death of the accident victim. At the company meeting Sami introduces Cemal as his nephew at the dismay of the rest of his family. At that meeting Camel is arrested and before he is placed into the police car he gives Suna the information that Gokhan is having an affair with his secretary . Back at Adana with get to meet Esra Gokdemir who returns very pregnant seeking forgiveness and being allowed to return home. Hulya vehemently rejects her pleases until which time Esra collapses and Hulya takes her in. The neighbors act in a heartless way by stoning the apartment forcing Huly and Esra to go to Istanbul in search of Cemal.
Episode 3
After Suna views Gokdemir and Neslihan , his secretary having sex in the bath tub, Suna breaks off her engagement to him at the family dinner where Cemal had just made his presence. She asks him
Suna: Why did you tell me and break up my existence
Cemal: You're a good person and I thought you needed to know who you are marrying
Gokhan vows to get revenge for Cemal telling on him and has his first physical confrontation with him. Cemal also is told that Esra has had a son and now they need to find a place to live. Cevher Akisik who immediately falls for Camel when he is assigned to their work area , helps him find a place in her neighborhood which is as run down as the slums in Adana. Cemal and Suna are starting to form a friendship and she drives Cemal to the hospital to see his nephew. Cevher now gets to see who her competition is and who has got Cemals attention.
Episode 4
When Cemal finds out that Selim who has been on the run from the police since Cemal turned in a voice recording of Selim admitting to the killing of the Accident victim has escaped wit Esra he becomes enraged. He beats Selim and then takes the baby away from Esra calling her an unfit mother. Suna is being forced into fitting for a wedding gown, by her mother Cavidan and Emel can't stand the pressure and walks out, walking the streets in the wedding gown when she calls Cemal to rescue her.
Episode 5
During a verbal clash with Sami, Cemal learns that he is Sami's son and angrily rejects it. He takes his anger out on his mother whom he asks to finally tell him the truth but she once again holds on to her fears. Cemal and Suna begin to get closer and both families begin to conspire to keep them apart. Gokhan shows his dark side when it is revealed that he beats up Neslihan and calls his mother to help clean up his mess since she did that before. Cemal rescues Neslihan before Emel gets to her and brings her to the hospital and charges are filed on Gokhan who is arrested. Gokhan once again blames Cemal for his troubles.
Episode 6
Cemal meets his grandmother Kadriye whom he forms a bound but naively believes that she is a caring person. To get his fathers workshop he unwittingly signs away his rights to the Gokdemier Holding Empire but also must disavow his mother, Hulya, who Kadriye hates with a passion. Suna moves out of her mothers house because they no longer are being supported by the Gokdemir must learn to live within their means. Cavidar strongly rejects the leaving the lifestyle all the worldly pleasures she has become accustomed to takes a million dollars from Gokhan with a promise to sway Suna to marry him. Selim continues to try to get Esra to marry him and convinces her to go to the court house to fill out the marriage documents which alert the police to his fake ID but correct addresss. In the police chase Selim is hit by a car and dies. Esra is devasted and she too turns her back on Hulya. In her confused state meets a woman who has set her sites on the baby to steal and sell . Cemal is alerted and saves the baby from being stolen. Cemal brings sera and the baby to stay at Suna's new apartment where Suna and Cemal have gotten even closer.
Episode 7
Hulya is devasted by the rejection of both of her children attempts suicide by fire and burns the apartment with her in it. She is rescued before she dies and this brings both Cemal and Esra back to her side. In prison Gokman meets a person Sabri who specializes in Revenge and Gokhan and he devise a plan to force Suna to marry him and thus crush Cemal's dream of a life with her. Suna agrees to marry in order to save Cemal from being blown up in front of her. She is forced to continue the charade to avoid Cemals death. Devasted she has nowhere to turn plays her part since her mother sold her out, Kadriye threaten her to end the war with Gokhan and Cemal. A devasted Cemal gives up and wants to return to Adana
Episode 8
The hopelessness for Suna and Cemal appear to become final when begins to put the pieces together as to how Suna was forced to marry Gokhan and why she did it. He crashes the Gokdemir family barbecue and threatens them all with their involvement in allowing Gokhan to do this to Suna and him. An unhinged Gokhan then hires Sabri once again to kidnap Cemal and kill him so that Suna will understand how serious he is. Sami goes to Hulya house to have her stop her sons forced aggressions on his family and comes away with the knowledge that Cemal is his son and that his mother was responsible for beating her and leaving her in the streets to die. Asaf his brother then rescued her throwing away his inheritance to be with the woman he loved. The last scenes chapter 8 finale goes as follows
Gokhan: Do you realize what you have done
Suna: What are you talking about
Gokhan: Cemal is dead by now and you killed him
Suna: What have you done….. how crazy are you
Gokhan: You are my wife and no one will ever have you
Suna: Get away from me…. Runs to the door to getaway but the door is locked
Gokhan: you didn't know how serious I was, now you will do as I say
Suna grabs a knife and threatens to kill herself if continues to get close to her. When Gokhan attempts to take the knife away from her they struggle and the knife penetrates Suna in the stomach making her fall to the ground and on the verge of dying.
A frighten Gokhan calls Sabri who has Cemal and negotiating with him, realizes that he can now be pinned to a murder , releases Cemal and brings him to where Suna lays dying. The finale scene has a Cemal sitting on the coastline with a solemn face when Suna comes from behind and gives him a kiss and the series closes with Cemal's narrative about the opening scene stating that he came to Istanbul
Cemal: I came to Istanbul to take back what is mine … Looking with a smile to Suna… and we have just started.
Episode 9
This episode begins with Suna being rushed to emergency to try to save her life and an angry Cemal informing the police that Gokhan Gokdemir is responsible for this and his kidnapping.
Police arrive at the Gokdemir Mansion with an arrest warrant for Gokhan
Sami: What is this all about
Police: We have a filed complaint for Gokhan Gokdemir for the stabbing go Suna Gokdemir and the Kidnapping and attempted murder of Cemal Gokdemir
Sami: What have you done Gokhan…. What has happened to to Suna and Cemal
Emal: Sami why are the police hear… What has happened to Gokhan
Sami: it appears that Gokhan stabbed Suna and had Cemal kidnapped with a contract to kill him
Emal : What has he done… Sami….. how can we save our son
Sami: If Suna dies,….. he dies… I will kill him with my own hands…. We made him into the monster that he is…. He needs to pay the price
Police: do you know where he is at
Sami: Emal has he contacted you… for god's sake don't lie to protect him… he stabbed Suna and left her to die….. he can no longer be protected…. Which hospital is Suna at… officer?
Emal: No he hasn't called me… Sami you're more concerned about Suna than our son… what kind of father are you
Sami: If I would have been a father to both of my sons in the beginning none of this would have happened… it is as much my fault as anyone
Police: Mrs Suna was taken to Istanbul Medical…. If your son contacts you have him turn himself in or he will be hunted down.
The Press has gotten word of the crime and are all gathered in front of the Gokdemir Mansion. Sami calls the Gokdemir Press agent to begin to do some sort of damage control since the Gokdemir name is getting hammered with bad press.
Sami: Emal, call Cavidan and inform her of Suna's injury and the hospital she is at….. we will go as a family to see Suna and how she is doing
At the hospital a very worried and crying Cemal sees them come near and his anger takes hold…
Cemal: Why are any of you hear… you did this to her… you forced her to be with that monster you call a son…..If I find him before the police, rest assured I will kill him for doing this to my beloved
Sami: Calm down son…. No one wanted this to happen
Cemal: I'm not your son…. I don't want any of you to be near her
Cavdan: She is my daughter… my baby … I need to see her
Cemal: What kind of mother are you that can sell your daughter for trinkets that they promise you….. you are worse than they are… Suna is my family and under my protection from here on out. All of you have turned a blind eye to that worthless piece of human debris that you call son and tricked and force this most precious jewel into his deranged hands without any thought what he would do.
Doctor comes out to inform the family that the surgery to mend her wounds was very successful. She has awakened and has asked to see Cemal.
Cemal: Suna my love ….. how are you…. The doctor said everything went successful and you will have a full recovery
Suna: You didn't leave me…. As angry as I made you… you still came to save me
Cemal: I was never angry at you… how could I be… I love you to much to ever be angry at you.
Suna: You still love me
Cemal: I've loved you from the first moment my eyes saw the angel that you are… I will always love you.
Suna: When he showed me the video with the bomb next you on the park bench while you were waiting for me and said that if I didn't marry him right then… you will be killed in front of me….. I couldn't bear it … you dying because of me…. I'm so sorry I put you through all of this .
Cemal: it's over we will have that fake marriage annulled and we will be free from the madness that is that family. You rest… They are out there and I told them to stay away but they still are your family…. What do you want.
Suna: Tonight I want to be left alone…. The only one I wanted to see was you…. You never let me down…. I love you so much … I will talk to them in a few days after I gathered my strength to see them.
Cemal: I will tell them… you rest and I will be here when you wake up.
Cemal tells them that she will see them in a few days after she has gained some strength back. Tonight she wants to be left alone and just rest.
Now that she is awake the police arrive to find out what actually happened and what crimes were committed.
Police: Mrs Suna can you provide the details of what has transpired so that the appropriate charges can be filed and prosecuted.
Suna : Several days ago I was contacted by a man called Levent for a job interview….. my boyfriend Cemal Gokdemir became suspicious of where he had asked to interview me and came along with me and waited outside of this apartment. While in the apartment… Gokhan Gokdemir shows up and begins showing me a video of Cemal sitting on a park bench. An old man shows up places a bag next to him and then Gokhan tells me that if I don't marry him he will kill Cemal in front of me since the bag is a bomb. When he shows me the timer is down to 5 minutes I agreed because I couldn't let Cemal die because of me. Gokhan had everything planned along with marriage license and marriage register and witnesses waiting. I continued to play along because of the continued threats to Cemal, but Cemal was persistent that I wouldn't have done this to him if it was not by force. When Cemal came to a family dinner and told everyone what Gokhan had done…. Gokhan contacted his contract killer to Kill Cemal to prove to me that Gokhan was a man of his word.
When he attempted to take his marriage privilege , I refused and he once again told me that Cemal was kidnapped and killed. I had nothing to loose so I grabbed a knife and threatened to kill myself. We got into a struggle and the knife was pushed inside of me. Gokhan seeing that I was dying left. Next person I see is Cemal who brought an ambulance to take me to the hospital.
Police: What you are saying the stabbing could be considered accidental, but forcing you into a marriage by force and the kidnapping are true and contracting for murder are true.
Suna: yes and I want to file complaint to such charges… Gokhan Gokdemir needs to pay for what he did to me and Cemal Gokdemir. He is presently waiting trial for the beating up his former girlfriend Neslihan whose baby was lost because of the beating she took by his hands. Yes commissioner , file the complaint.
Police also talk to Cemal who confirms the kidnapping of his self and provides the name of Sabri who was paid 20,000 lira to do both. Sabri was also responsible for the attempted bombing in the park that forced Suna to marry.
With Cemal not showing back at the apartment with food he went out to get… he receives a call from Cevher to find out what has happened.
Cevher: Cemal , where are you, your mother is very worried about you, especially after Mr Sami came by a threaten your mother about you staying away from them
Cemal: Put my mother on the phone…. Mother… what did Uncle Sami say to you
Hulya: he came shouting at me about controlling you and keeping you away from them… then he insulted me by saying that maybe you were not even Asif son… I told him everything in that you are his son and that his family has been lying to him all these years and that he is as much responsible for all these troubles that we have been in…. Son where are you and are you alright
Cemal: I'm at the hospital, Suna got stabbed by Gokhan and had me kidnapped and was going to have me killed when word got out that he stabbed Suna. They let me go to save Suna before she died. She has had surgery and I'm staying to make sure nothing else happens to her….. I love her to much to have anything else happen.
Hulya: You love her
Cemal: yes mother, I love her and I also know what you did with Gokhan … no more lies mother ….. if you want to remain my mother.
Cevher : Mother Hulya…. What did he say….. is he coming
Hulya: Daughter… this is not good but I cannot stop what is about to happen…. Suna was stabbed by her husband…. Cemal saved her and he is at the hospital with her… they professed their love for each other and no one will changed them.
Esra: the way they look at each other…. Cemal was never going to give her up… Cevher don't interfere with them, We know you love him but he only loves Suna ….. let them be happy … she is very good for him.
Cevher: if they have professed their love … so be it… I will no longer pursue.
Hulya: if only Sami was like his son Cemal, how much different life would have been.
Gokhan has been driving aimlessly until he decides to call his mother Emal to find a way to get him out of this mess. He knows Samie will him for what he did to Suna.
Gokhan : Mom… I need your help… I really messed up this time
Emal: Suna didn't die….. Cemal saved her and brought her to the hospital…. What possessed you to do such a thing
Gokhan: Cemal saved her and he isn't dead….. they didn't kill him
Emal: Were you trying to have Cemal killed…. Gokhan, how could you do these things
Sami hearing Gokhan's name takes the phone away from Emal
Sami: Gokhan… you hear me and hear me good…. You come back to this house and you will turn yourself in with our lawyer…. You will confess your crimes and you will do your punishment. If you remain on the loose Cemal will find you and he will kill you for what you did to Suna…. Make no mistake … he will do it … just like I would if I was him…. Be a man once in your life.
Gokhan has no more options other than running but he also knows that Sami has already frozen his accounts so their is no money to run off with. Gokhan does what his father advises and returns to the mansion. The lawyer arrives and proceeds to tell him the charges and then they go to the police station where in turns himself in… this time he will remain in jail until the trial… since he was warned.
The next day at the hospital Cemal and Suna see on the news that Gokhan has turned himself into the police and has confessed to what part he played
Cemal: that bastard still thinks he is going to get away with it
Suna: sweetheart, don't get yourself all angered up… he is in jail… this is probably the first honest thing he has ever done in his life… Please just think about us and our future
Cemal: Our future now that is something I could smile about…. I forgot to tell you now that you didn't get that fake job…. Do you want to be our official designer… we will build the business together…. Your designs are fantastic and we will make fabrics just for them.
Suna: Where did you get the money to get the workshop running
Cemal : Mahut came with a bag full of money and with that we were able to get a mortgage where we got $300,000 Lira and now we can really start up. With your designs we can make a unique name for ourselves and grow from that. Labor pool we take from the slums where jobs a scarce but desires are great. You need to just get better first…. then we will take on Istanbul
Suna: you have surprised me so much …. You will make this work
Cemal: we will make this work…. You and I together are unbreakable … we've already proven that.
Suna: talking about our future lifts my spirits, but today I have to also deal with my past… don't get mad but I called my mother and Mr Sami to let them know that if they wanted to talk to me they can.
Cemal: Do you want me here with you
Suna: yes ,we are a team , but this time you have to keep your mouth shut….. I don't want you yelling and making threats… Ok…. You promise
Cemal: I promise
Sami, Emel , Kadriye and Cavidan arrive at the hospital
Suna: I asked you here to provide an explanation as to what happened and why I did what I did. I never loved Gokhan the way I love Cemal. But I felt trapped, by my mother and by the three of you. My childhood friendship helped Gokhan get through some of his earlier problems and then your generosity towards my mother put me into a position That I needed to repay a debt. Gokhan's obsession with me was never about him loving me ...it was about him being rejected by me. He wanted what he couldn't have….. so he devised this plan to trap me with my love for Cemal. Threatening to have Cemal killed in front of me was to much to bear… I couldn't let that happen.
What disappointed me was that all of you knew Gokhan's propensity for violence , but still didn't do anything about hit. Why couldn't anyone see what was going to happen and see my misery.
Cavidan : Baby we thought that life as a Gokdemir was what you've always wanted.
Suna: Mother… Simple life with Cemal Gokdemir is all I want… but Mother your spoiled childhood maneuvers to still be a leach on Uncle Sami's money was beyond reprehensible. You're going to have to grow up on own mother….. You have a brain that knows how to cheat anyone…. You now need to learn to take car of yourself with that brain.
Sami: I've always thought of you as the daughter I never had… I kept on wishing that you could change Gokhan to be the man worthy of your affection. That was my big mistake, Gokhan needed help long ago… but we brushed it under the table so long that it remained their until he shows his ugely side. Suna, I'm so sorry you paid such a steep price. I'm thankful that Cemal didn't abandon you at least one Gokdemir has the goodness you deserve.
Suna: I'm sorry for my actions these last couple of days but I had no choice. Maybe one day we can put this behind us…. I'll remain a Gokdemir ….. if Cemal will have me once I have this marriage with Gokhan annulled as though it never happened.
Cemal: You told me to remain quite but you just proposed to me and that I can't remain quite….. you are the love of my life and of course we will marry.
Sami and Suna both smile while Cavidan, Emel and Kadriye frown , not everyone can get what they want.
