Chapter 6:
When the hockey game ends Sam cleans up their mess then comes back and plops on the couch.
"So…" Andy says a little nervous again. They were fine while the game was on because they had a distraction but now she was just staring at his lips and his hands and his arms…
Sam raises his eyebrows.
"So… What do you want to do now? We ate, we watched hockey…"
"Um… I dunno…"
She tucks her legs under her on the couch leaning into the arm rest.
"What would you normaly do on a Saturday?" She asks him.
Sam sighs.
"Well I've only spent 2 Saturdays here. The first one Mrs. Brenda and her 2 daughters wanted to make me feel at home so they spent basically the whole day talking to me about random things. And last Saturday I just did some Chemistry homework and worked in the garage."
"Okay two things. First, you have Chem? Who is your teacher?"
"Yes… Mr. Ash."
"I had him last semester for Chem."
"Yeah… did you pass? Maybe you can tutor me…" He said.
She wasn't sure if he was serious or not.
"I got a B. Not my favorite class in the world but I did alright."
"I might actually need help… I have my first test next week. Who knows?" He shruged.
"Okay second thing… the garage…. The wood? What are you doing?"
"Oh um… I'm good with tools, I fixed the dining tables leg. It was wobbly."
She smiled.
"So Mrs. Brenda asks you to fix things?"
"No… she doesn't ask for much at all. She just likes me to clean after myself. I willingly fix things. I guess it's a hobby. It keeps my hands busy and usually keeps me out of trouble."
Andy was considering his words.
"What kinds of things do you fix?"
"Oh I've fixed tons of stuff over the last few years. Cars, things with wood, faucets, shower heads, lights, painting, a few washers, a dryer, I tried to fix an AC unit once and I almost had it but gave up from heat exaustion and the guy actually showed me what I did wrong… I dunno… I guess a little of everything."
Andy smiles. This guy just gets sexier she thought. Which made her blush.
"What?" He asks noticing her cute blush.
"Nothing… I just that's really cool that you can do all that."
"I mean aren't guys supposed to be good with tools?" He asks.
"I guess. I dunno… my dad doesn't fix anything at our house, I've been waiting 2 months for him to call someone to fix our dishwasher."
"Hmm whats wrong with it? I haven't worked on one of those yet." He smirked.
"Oh um… I wasn't trying to get you to…"
"Relax, I know." He puts his hand on her knee.
She blushes.
"What's wrong with it?" He asks again.
"The door won't seal. So if I start it the water will leak or it will pop open and shut off."
Andy pauses and looks up.
"I actually tried duck tape." She whispered.
Sam chuckles. "Yeah how did that work?"
"Actually it worked for 1 load but then it came off."
"Well I could take a look if you want. Save your dad a call…"
She rolls her eyes.
"He probably doesn't even remember I asked." She sighs.
"Sorry." Sam says. He isn't sure about the dad talk.
"No worries. So… other than tools and fixing things what do you like to do?" She asks.
"Um… I dunno. I cook, I clean, I'm good with tools, I'm an excellent driver… that's me in a nutshell." He smiles. "What about you Andy?"
"Me? Oh um… I like sports. Basketball is my current game so practices are two times a week and usually games are on Thursdays."
"Are you on a team?"
"Yeah silly. At school. I'm actually a co-captain this year." She smiles.
"Oh wow. I'll have to go to some games."
She blushes.
"I'd like that."
"I kinda suck at basketball… I like running though. I tried out for track freshman year."
"I like running too. I was on the JV track team last year."
"Ok basketball, running… anything else?"
"Well I don't do it on a team or anything but I love swimming. Ice Skating is fun too but surprisenly the two times I've gone I got hurt."
"Oh wow. I love ice skating. I played hockey for years so its kind of necessary. How did you get hurt?"
"Well the first time was totally a fluke and not my fault. I stepped onto the ice, I was about seven and my dad was supposed to be right behind me but he wasn't so when I turned around thinking he would catch me he wasn't there and my blade stuck in the ice and I face planted directly into the wall. Blood went everywhere. It was a total mess."
"Oh my gosh! That's awful." Sam said.
"I know. And the second time was just last year. My friend Gail was with me, actually you met her. The blonde from the party?"
"Oh yeah you two are friends? I didn't get that vibe."
"Well… we've known each other since grade one. Her parents and my dad are in the same line of work. I guess lately we have been less friends and more aquaintences but mostly that's her fault, she let a guy come between us. Actually you met him too… Luke."
"Oh…"
"Yeah he was hitting on me and she thought I was… um… dating… him. I was definitely not but she got jealous."
"Anyway, Gail was with me and we decided to give it a go and a little kid dropped their bracelet on the ice and my skate got caught and I took a tumble resulting in a sprained ankle and a bruised wrist."
"Oh no, if you fall you gotta tuck and roll… no hands out on the ice." Sam said knowingly.
"Well no one told me that rule!" She giggled.
"Well maybe you and I can go and we can work on you not getting hurt." He said with a smile.
Andy bit her lower lip.
"I'd like that, Sam."
"Good. Me too."
He patted her leg.
"Okay um… what do you want to do today though?"
She tucked her lip back in and bit down.
"Um… wanna watch that movie?"
Sam looks at her.
"Okay."
They pick an action movie and get it started.
10 minutes in Andy turns around scooting her whole body closer to Sam.
She bites her lip and looks at him.
He catches her drift and slowly puts his arm on the back of the couch.
She immediately scoots her head onto his shoulder.
"I'm glad you asked me to hang out Sam."
He smiles. "I'm glad you said yes."
She leans her head up and he leans down at the perfect moment.
Their lips meet and Andy's left hand pulls him closer by his shirt.
Sam's right hand finds her hair and he is enjoying the feel of her lips on his.
He takes a bold chance and pulls her into his lap stradling him.
She smiles into his mouth and pulls back.
"Sam?"
He opens his eyes and stares at her beautiful face. His hands are on her hips feeling the soft skin under her shirt. He rubs small circles.
"Yeah?" He asks unsure if he wants to talk at this moment.
"I… uh… I like you and I like kissing but…"
"You're not ready." He says deadpan.
"Right." She says sliding carefully back to her spot.
"I wasn't trying to pressure you or anything I just…"
"Got carried away… yeah… me too." She says.
"So…" he says.
She reaches over and pulls his face to hers for another minute of kissing.
"I wasn't done kissing." She says with a grin. "I just didn't want you to think this was going somewhere… uh… else."
"Okay" He says turning for more kisses. "I've been warned."
She giggles when his hand brushes her side.
"I'm a little ticklish." She mentions.
He smirks. "Apparently."
He sits up.
"Can I ask you a personal question?"
Shes concerned by his serious tone.
"Yeah."
"Have you ever done anything?"
"Anything?"
"Um… sexual?"
Andy blushes.
"Oh um… not really. I mean just kissing."
She looks away and then back to Sam's face. "I'm not against doing more… I just never had anyone I wanted to do anything with before. And when I was 16 I had one boyfriend who I was considering it but then I told him that and it was like it was the only thing he could think of and he kept trying to touch me and I felt like it was headed to a dark place so I broke up with him and told my dad. Well… my dad went over and accused him of trying to force me and his parents made a big deal it was a whole thing. And now I've probably scared you off and you won't ever want to touch me again." She said looking down at her hands.
Sam gently lifted her jaw.
"Hey… I definitely do not scare easily. And… uh… I definitely want to touch you. Wait… no… that sounds super creepy! I'm sorry! That's not how I meant that."
Andy is laughing!
She pulls his arm around her shoulder and snuggles in close.
"Relax. I don't think you are creepy at all."
He smiles.
"Good."
"Sam… I like you okay?"
He lets out one little laugh. "Good. I like you Andy McNally."
She smiles.
"Good. I just wanted that out there."
They finish the movie cuddled together and then Andy helps Sam with his Chemistry homework.
At 6:00 Andy gets her nightly call from her father and she decides she should probably go home.
Sam drives her home and gives her a kiss goodnight.
"Sam, Thanks for a wonderful day."
"You're welcome. I would like to do it again soon."
"Well how about Monday night? I can cook us some dinner?"
Sam smiles.
"It's a date, McNally. See you on Monday."
She scrunches her nose up at being called McNally… her coach does that but it felt a little different from Sam.
"See you Monday Sam. Goodnight."
"Night."
