Chapter 6: Capturing Klotz

Fox walked around the dead meat-eater, watching the vultures eat it. The vulpine heard a crashing sound, which he realized was Klotz walking through the jungle with Krystal. Running after the gorilla, the First Mate saw him exit the jungle, approach the base of a cliff and climb up it. With no time to spare, Fox started to climb up after Klotz. The giant ape was unaware that the vulpine was following him, so he entered a fissure in the rock. When Klotz was out of sight, the First Mate continued to climb up the rock.

The fissure in which Klotz entered was an area with a pool and a waterfall. There was also a ledge that was high above. Unbeknownst to the ape, there was a serpent that was rising out of the pool. The reptile then lunged for the shore and started up the trail after the King of Corneria's Skull. Fox entered the fissure, dunking behind a rock so that Klotz didn't see him.

Klotz carefully placed Krystal on a ledge near the trail before plunging down the side of his lair to attack the snake. However, the serpent proceeded to wrap itself around the giant ape, attempting to draw him towards the pool. The gorilla fought back, trying to keep himself from being drawn into the pool. With little time to waste, he gripped rocks with his feet, locked his great arms around the snake, and bit down on it. The serpent responded by winding his coils around Klotz. The two were in a stalemate, making hideous noises as they exerted strength against each other.

The monsters were locked in a death embrace until they grew still, barely moving at all.

Back at the gate, Wolf was back with Captain Hare, the Second Mate, and the rest of the crew.

"Skipper," Wolf spoke, "I tell you this Klotz is the biggest thing on Corneria. He shook the men off that log like flies."

"All those men lost!" Peppy cried, "Incredible!"

"Fox said that he would try to signal us when he found Krystal." The lupine said.

"We'll never see either of them again." The hare groaned.

"Don't give up, Skipper." The Second Mate said, "There's a chance for McCloud."

"We'll have to wait for daylight." Wolf said, "Then we'll bridge the ravine. Where's that other case of bombs?"

"Here sir." A sailor who was a snow leopard answered.

"This monster that you saw, will he care for bombs?" Captain Hare asked.

"If we can get near enough to use them, you bet he'll care." Wolf said, "Had any trouble with the natives?"

"Yes," the hare said, "just after you left."

"What happened?" The lupine asked.

"We fired a couple volleys over their heads," the captain stated, "and they took to their huts like scared rabbits."

"Plasma's something new in their lives, huh?" The filmmaker asked.

"They're terrified." Peppy said.

"They've kept under cover ever since." The Second Mate added.

"Bill, get up on the wall and keep your eyes peeled." Wolf said to the Second Mate, " We'll start at dawn, whether we get a signal for McCloud or not."

Meanwhile, Klotz had managed to kill the snake as he staggered towards the trail. Picking up Krystal, the giant gorilla staggered towards his lair, not knowing that Fox came out from behind the rock to watch him. Klotz's lair opened out upon the mountain side at a great height. This opening was the eye of the legendary skull after which the island got its name. Klotz then sat Krystal down on a ledge that was outside the opening. The ape then let out a triumphant roar as he beat his chest in defiance, ignoring the screams of his Bride.

Upon hearing Krystal's screams, Fox cautiously moved up the trail. Klotz then took Krystal in his hand. Scared, the cobalt vixen tried to run away. Her captor let her run to the edge of the trail before catching her again, like how a cat would play with a mouse. The ape did this again, taking her up in his hand. He then stated at the captive vixen with a puzzled, interested expression while she looked at him in terror.

All of a sudden, Klotz began to rip Krystal's clothes off. The vixen screamed as her clothes were ripped apart, which alerted Fox. The First Mate hurried up the trail, knowing that he was close. Krystal was almost naked when Klotz got done stripping her. The ape looked alert and startled towards the trail. Putting his Bride down, the giant went to look down over the edge of the trail.

Klotz looked down upon the trail. Fox was below him, flattening himself into a crevice in the rocks. The ape was trying to see him, puzzled over the source of the noise that was bugging him. That was until he heard a scream. Rushing back, Klotz saw that a giant bird had seized Krystal. Catching the bird in the air, the giant freed his Bride before engaging the winged beast in a fight.

Seeing her opportunity, Krystal ran back towards the trail. That was when Fox came up over the edge of the lair. He rushed to the vixen, trying to rush her back to the trail. As the vulpine did so, Klotz finished killing the bird and turned to see the intruder. Angered that someone was trying to take his Bride away from him, the massive beast roared. He then moved towards them, looking to seize Krystal.

As it was their only means of escape, Fox saw the subterranean pool while on the inner edge of the lair. Seizing Krystal about the waist, the vulpine dived off with her, avoiding Klotz's grasp just in time. The two foxes came up, looking helpless as Klotz approached them. The gorilla then rushed down the trail, trying to reach for them. However, he missed the foxes as the dived. Before the ape could reach for them again, Fox and Krystal found themselves being sucked through the pool and being swept down to the torrents below the waterfall.

Upon being swept down the rapids, Fox and Krystal heard Klotz roaring. Looking up, the two foxes saw the massive ape coming out of the fissure and climbing down the cliff. With no time to spare, Fox pulled Krystal ashore. Helping her out, the First Mate supported the cobalt vixen. They then disappeared into the jungle, leading Klotz on a chase.

Back at the gate, Captain Hare's party was grouped about the inner side. They had lit a bonfire, about which they were grouped with their arms, including Wolf and Captain Hare. At the top of the wall, the sailors were keeping watch. One of them, a spaniel, grabbed the arm of another, a robin, and pointed as they saw Fox and Krystal coming out of the woods. As they came out of the jungle, the First Mate was carrying the cobalt vixen. The spaniel then called down to those below.

"McCloud and the lady coming up from the woods, sir." He said.

Those below sprang to their feet.

"Holy cow!" Captain Hare cried.

The rescue party ran up to Fox and Krystal.

"Give her to me." Wolf said as he took Krystal from Fox.

"Good man, Fox!" Captain Hare grasped the First Mate's hand.

Fox nearly collapsed, only for Captain Hare to half-support him. The hare then pulled a flask from his pocket.

"Here." He said.

Fox took it, staggering over to Krystal. The cobalt vixen was laying on the ground, with Wolf kneeling beside her. Fox bent over her, giving her a drink. The vixen then choked over it, pushing the flask away.

"I'm all right." Krystal said, "Oh, Fox."

She hid her face against Fox, letting out a sniffle.

"Now, now. You're safe. We'll be back on the ship in no time." Captain Hare said.

Fox was kneeling, holding Krystal in his arms.

"Wait a minute, what about Klotz?" Wolf got up.

"What about him?" Fox asked.

"We came here to make a movie," the lupine said, "but we've found something worth all the films on Corneria."

"What?!" Captain Hare couldn't believe his ears.

"We've got the bombs." The filmmaker said, "If we capture him alive -"

"You're crazy." Fox spoke, "Anyway, he's on top of a cliff where an army couldn't get at him."

"If he chooses to stay there." The gray wolf said.

Everyone looked at him.

"We've got something he wants." Wolf looked at Krystal, who shrunk in horror.

"Something he won't get again." Fox furiously said.

Klotz's roar was heard in the jungle.

"He followed us!" The vulpine cried.

Krystal screamed, Fox putting his arms around her.

Upon bursting through the jungle, Klotz saw them and beat his chest. The crew then ran for the gate. The native warriors then came out, alarmed at the sound of Klotz, and ran towards the gate with weapons. Seeing them, the sailors got their weapons out. However, the natives gestured that they meant no harm and that the gate must be closed. Some of them started to pick up the pole that was used to keep the gate shut. Before the sailors had time to ask questions, another frightful roar and drumming was heard beyond the wall, as Klotz was chasing the rescue party.

The rescue party then ran through the gate, past the natives and the sailors.

"Shut the gate!" Wolf shouted, "Shut the gate!"

"All hands on the gate!" Captain Hare shouted.

Bill blew a whistle, which caused the sailors to drop their weapons in order to push the gate closed. The native warriors pushed the big pole against the gate - some sixty of them on it. A few others stood by with weapons, shouting orders and encouragements. As soon as Klotz reached the gate, his foot got jammed in it. The ship's party tried to force the gate shut, but the ape got his arm through it. He then lifted a sailor and beat him against the gate.

The sailors at the bottom pressed against the gate frantically to keep Klotz out. The beast then dropped the sailor he had a hold of, throwing himself repeatedly against the gate. It began to wrench loose as a result. The sailors then looked horrified as they saw the hinges above tearing loose. As they tried to keep the gate shut again, Klotz threw himself at the gate again, causing it to rip loose from its hinges and crush the sixty natives on the long pole. The few surviving natives also ran with Klotz standing in the gate. Snarling and beating his chest, the huge gorilla then started after them.

Running through the village, the sailors took refuge in huts. Fox and Krystal ran behind the huts while Wolf ran in.

"The bombs!" The lupine shouted, "Who's got the bombs?!"

Klotz walked through the village, knocking huts aside while roaring. He even attacked the natives, killing some of them in the process. Fox and Krystal began to run out to the beach, trying to keep behind huts as they did so. However, Klotz saw them and began to come after them. The boats were drawn up, giving the sailors an opportunity to escape. However, Klotz was still in pursuit of Fox and Krystal.

With little time to spare, Wolf grabbed Jimmy and seized the bombs from him. He then threw a bomb, which flew over Fox's head. The bomb then exploded, enveloping Klotz in its smoke. Coughing, the massive beast collapsed, knocking Wolf aside with his hand. He struggled to reach for Fox and Krystal before collapsing. The giant was now limp, slipping into unconsciousness.

"Are you hurt?" Captain Hare asked as he approached Wolf.

"Come on," the lupine got up, "we've got him."

Everyone gathered around the unconscious Klotz, who was heaving as he breathed.

"He'll be out for hours." Wolf was exultant, "Send off to the ship for anchor-chains, Skipper. And tools."

"What are you going to do?" Captain Hare asked.

"Build a raft to float him out to the ship." The lupine stated, "Corneria will pay to see this!"

"No chains will hold that." The hare gestured towards Klotz.

"We'll give him more than chains." Wolf said in triumph, "He's always been King of his world. But we'll teach him fear! We're millionaires, boys, I'll share it with all of you. Why, in a few months, it'll be up in lights on Birdway: 'Klotz - the Eighth Wonder of Corneria!'"

Note: Yeah, things are going to go from bad to worse. Also, keep in mind that, when I finish this story, I'm going to delete Eighth Wonder of Corneria and Son of Klotz.
