Chapter 7 The Spirit of Competition
It's been about a week since the whole incident of Sean's past being exposed by Lin due to the Oracle she used to bring out his early memories and since Sean and his friend Reznov fought Amon who got away. Since then the City has been on edge feeling that now having two children of gods would make Amon act out in fear.
Currently right now Korra was with the Fire ferrets training for the tournament rounds tonight.
Sean and Reznov watched from the sides.
"So let me get this straight. They turned bending into a sport called pro bending in which the game is to knock the other team off the ring?" Reznov asked Sean.
"Basically." Sean said before all three knocked each other down and laughed.
"It's been great having you at so many back-to-back practices, Korra." Mako said.
"Feels good to be back. Though Tarrlok isn't happy about me and Sean declining his offer for the task force." Korra said.
"Let him bitch and moan all he likes. He can't do anything else." Sean said making her smile.
"Hey, you joined the fire ferrets first." Bolin said.
"Okay, come on. Team Huddle time." Mako said as they huddled. "It's our first match of the tournament tonight. I know the three of us haven't been a team for very long, but even so, the fire ferrets have never been this good. Are we ready?" Mako asked.
"We're ready." Korra and Bolin said.
"Not yet you aren't." Asami said walking in.
"Hey Asami." Sean said.
"You'll need these." Asami said holding up the new gear with her father's company on them.
"These look great." Mako said impressed.
"You look great, Champ." Asami said as they rubbed noses
"Oh for the love of my uncle Loki." Reznov said disgusted.
"Ugh!" Korra gagged
"Knock it off. Do that somewhere private!" Sean yelled disgusted making them blush before laughing sheepishly.
"Sorry guys." Mako said before he and Asami left.
"Good lord." Reznov said repulsed.
"Ok that was disgusting." Korra said packing up before she, Sean and Reznov left leaving Bolin alone making him pout.
Later
Korra was helping Jinora and Ikki put some food in the feeders for the lemurs.
"So, how's it going with the tall, dreamy fire bender boy? You've been spending a lot of time together lately." Jinora teased.
"Ooh, yeah. Tellus all about the Magical romance!" Ikki said excited.
"What? Listen to you two. I'm not interested in Mako or any romantic stuff...But lets just pretend for a second I am interested in romance...what would I do?" Korra asked.
"Ooh, I just read a historical saga where the heroine fell in love with the enemy general's son who was supposed to marry the princess. You should do what she did." Jinora said.
"Tell me." Korra said excited.
"She rode her dragon into battle and burned down the entire country. Then she jumped into a volcano. It was so romantic." Jinora said. (What the hell?)
"Uh." Korra said very confused.
"No, no, No!" Ikki yelled. "The best way to win a boy's heart Is to brew a love potion of rainbows and sunsets that makes true lovers sprout wings and fly to a magical castle in the sky where they get married and eath clouds with spoons and use stars as ice cubes in their moonlight punch forever and ever and ever." Ikki said swirling around. (I cannot believe I typed that all in one sentence. Someone give this girl an award for not breathing in all that)
"The Volcano makes more sense to me now." Korra said annoyed that they didn't help at all before Peme started laughing behind them. "Oh, hey, Pema! Uh, how long were you standing there?" Korra asked awkwardly making her laugh.
"Long enough. But trust me, I know what you're going through. Years ago, I was in the exact same situation. With Tenzin." Pema said.
"Daddy was in love with someone else before you?" Ikki asked.
"That's right." Pema said.
"So what did you do?" Korra asked.
"Well, for the longest time I did nothing, I was so shy and scared of rejection. But watching my soul mate spend his life with the wrong woman became too painful. So I hung my chin out there, and confessed my love to Tenzin. And the rest is history." Pema said.
"Wow." All three said before Korra thought it over and grinned.
"So just tell Mako how you feel and..." Pema tried to say.
"For the last time. It's not Mako." Korra said annoyed.
"Then who is it?" Jinora asked making Korra smile lightly.
"It's Sean." Korra said surprising the two girls while Peme smiled. "I've always had these feelings for him since I turned 13. He's always been there for me for everything. Training, Fun. He's always kept me safe. Cheered me up when I was feeling down. It's hard not to fall for someone like that." Korra. said.
"Wow. That is so Romantic. Falling in love with your protector." Jinora said with a dreamy smile.
"Yeah." Korra said smiling.
Unknown to any of them was that Sean was listening in with a frown on his face making him sigh before walking away before seeing Tenzin.
"You look concerned." Tenzin said.
"Uh It's about Amon. I know he claims the Spirits gave him this power to take bending away...But something feels off. His Energy feels...Familiar to me for some reason." Sean said being somewhat truthful since he didn't want to talk about Korra's interest in a relationship.
"Familiar how exactly?" Tenzin asked.
"I can't explain it but I also felt the same thing from Tarrlok. Perhaps they share something in common." Sean said.
"I see." Tenzin said walking away.
Sean could only sigh knowing his relationship with Korra might be compromised because of her romantic interests in him.
Later at night
Everyone was gathering at the Pro bending Arena.
"Folks, after a year of waiting, the pro bending championship tournament is finally here!" The announcer said.
Sean sat in the stands to watch Korra and her team before they came out.
"Introducing our first team, the Future Industries Fire Ferrets"
Korra and her team waved at the crowd before she spotted him and grinned making him smile slightly.
"And their opponents, the red sands Rabbaroos."
An all female team.
"Oh this ain't gonna end well." Sean said before the match started.
"What an explosive opening volley. Both teams quickly recovery and unleash a barrage of bending. I am astonished with the level of improvement displayed here by the fire ferrets!" The Announcer said as said team dominated the other with such skill.
"HEHEHE!" Sean laughed as the female team was getting their asses handed to them.
"Is this really the best they can do?" Reznov asked unimpressed.
It didn't take too long after before the Ferrets won the match with such skill making the crowd cheer before Sean and Reznov went to greet them as they came back from the arena.
"Very impressive. You made the other team look like rookies." Reznov said.
"Thanks." Korra said before looking at Sean.
"Something on your mind?" Sean asked.
"I was...Thinking maybe we should spend some time together." Korra said shyly.
"Don't we always?" Sean asked trying to avoid this while Reznov saw the look on his face.
"Look...I was just thinking...Maybe we should consider...A relationship." Korra said.
"I...I can't." Sean said shocking her.
"Uh could you give us a minute." Reznov said dragging him outside while Korra looked depressed.
"The hell was that about? She just basically confessed her feelings for you." Reznov said in disbelief.
"I know. I already knew she was gonna do this. I overheard her talking with Pema about this before the match began." Sean said looking away.
"Then why did you reject her?" Reznov asked making him look away. "You still aren't over what happened are you?" Reznov asked.
"No. And I'm not gonna let him use someone I care about against me...Never again." Sean said making him sigh.
"Thats an excuse for yourself and you know it. You care about her more than you let on. Now go in there!" Reznov said pushing him inside but they saw only Asami and Mako.
"Wheres Korra?" Sean asked.
"She went with Bolin." Mako said making him sigh.
Meanwhile
Bolin and Korra were at small shop eating some artificial water tribe food.
"So, How do you like it?" Bolin asked.
"Mmm, It's delicious, and totally authentic. Man, I didn't realize how much I missed Water Tribe grub." Korra said.
"That's great, because this is my favorite joint. See, you love Water Tribe food, I love water Tribe food. Just another reason we are so great together." Bolin said.
"They are good noodles." Korra said slurping some in her mouth before she noticed someone looking at them. "Hey, who's that creepy guy over there that keeps leering at us?" Korra asking making him look.
"That's Tahno and the Wolf-Bats the Regining champs three years running. Don't make eye contact." Bolin said seeing the look on her face before Tahno stood up and walked to them.
"Uh-oh, here he comes. Now don't mess with this guy. He's a nasty dude." Bolin said before he approached them.
"Well, well, well. If it isn't the fire ferrets. Pro Bending's saddest excuse for a team. Tell. me, how did a couple of amateurs like luck. your way into the tournament? Especially, you, Uh-vatar." Tahno mocked making her scoff. "You know, if you'd like to learn how a real pro bends, I could give you private Lessons." Tahno said pissing her off.
"You want to go toe-to-toe with me, pretty boy?" Korra challenged to his face.
"Go for it. Your little Demon isn't here so why not." Tahno said.
"DON'T call him that." Korra said.
"Korra, don't do it. He's just trying to bait you." Bolin said before she smirked and brought her fingers to her mouth and whistled before Naga appeared in the window and roared making Tahno whimper in fear before his team ran off.
This caused both Korra and Bolin to burst out laughing.
From the outside Sean saw the whole thing and couldn't help but chuckle.
"I guess after using Spyro scare all the more stuck up white Lotus members she decided to do the same using Naga." Sean said amused before Korra sat back down before she turned around thinking someone was watching her but Sean was gone making her shrug.
Later
After having fun with Bolin, Korra went back to the Arena to win the next Match and saw Sean sitting down looking at her.
"What kind of game do you think your playing?" Sean asked confusing her.
"Uh...Pro bending. I've got a quarterfinal match." Korra said.
"No, I mean with Bolin. You got him all in a tizzy, and I know your only using him to get back at me." Sean said.
"What are you talking about? We're just having fun together. What do you care?" Korra asked.
"I see how he looks at you." Sean said before she widened her eyes.
"Wait just a second. This isn't about him. Your jealous. You do have feelings for me." Korra said grinning.
"What? Jealous? Of what? I'm suppose to protect you. Thats my job." Sean said making her smirk.
"Admit it. You care about me." Korra said.
"Not like that." Sean said denying it.
"Whenever you see Mako and Asami you want that to be us." Korra said.
"Get over yourself!" Sean said.
"I'm just being honest." Korra said fed up with his excuses.
"YOUR CRAZY!" Sean yelled.
"AND YOUR A LIAR!" Korra yelled before stomping inside.
"GRR!" Sean growled before kicking the ground making a dent. "This is all your fault." Sean said referring to someone he hated. The one who ruined his life.
Later
After Korra's team won the match she was outside leaning against the docks before Sean walked to her.
"Korra...We need to talk." Sean said.
"Save it. You made it clear you don't have those kind of feelings for me." Korra said sadly.
"No...I do." Sean said shocking her. "I just can't return them...Because of what I did." Sean said.
"Then let me be the judge of that. How am I supposed to decide if you won't tell me what happened?" Korra asked.
"I..." Sean tried to say before she kissed him before he kissed back holding her face close before they both pulled back and she smiled at him before looking back and gasped. "What?" Sean asked turning around and came face to face with Bolin who had some flowers in hand. "Uh oh." Sean said before Bolin ran off crying. "Aw man." Sean said rubbing his forehead.
"Oh no." Korra said running off after him.
"Great." Sean said annoyed.
Later
Sean watched the final match for the night before Reznov sat next to him.
"I know that look." Reznov said before seeing the Fire Ferrets come out and saw the depressed look on Bolin's face. "Let me guess. Bolin saw you and Korra in a more intimate moment and took it hard?" Reznov asked making him sigh.
"Is it that obvious?" Sean asked as the round started.
"Kinda. What happened?" Reznov asked before seeing Bolin rush to the side and vomited making them look away.
"Oh man. Bolin saw Korra kiss me and I...Kissed back. I knew he had romantic feelings for her but she didn't feel the same way. She has those feelings for me." Sean said.
"And vice versa." Reznov said making him nod.
"But she did bring up a good point. I need to tell them how my dark path started if they want to judge me fairly. It's time I stopped avoiding it and show them." Sean said before by some miracle Korra won the match for her team making everyone cheer while he smiled before going down. As he left Reznov failed to notice two people glaring at him from behind.
Korra was healing Bolin as his shoulder was injured.
"Bolin? I'm sorry about before. I didn't realize you had those sort of feelings." Korra apologized.
"Ah. It's ok. But we had fun didn't we?" Bolin asked making her smile.
"I had a great time and whoever ends up with you is gonna end up being happy her whole life. But it's just not me. You see...I've had feelings for Sean ever since I was 13. He's always trained me, Protected me, Made me smile and cheered me up when I needed it. It's hard not to fall for someone like that." Korra said before said person walked in.
"Hey Bolin...I..." Sean tried to say.
"Ah It's ok." Bolin said.
"Korra...We need to talk." Sean said getting her attention. "You said it wasn't fair that you couldn't judge if you didn't know my past." Sean said.
"Sean, you don't have to..." Korra tried to say.
"No you were right. I can't keep hiding the truth from any of you." Sean said.
"It can't be that bad. So you were a brutal Captain. You were just doing your job." Asami said.
"No. Thats not what I'm referring to." Sean said before his eyes glowed.
Flashback (Again during the narration picture Gaia's voice telling the story)
The four soon found themselves once more in Sean's memories before seeing him at the age of 15 leading a charge. Korra quickly took note that the Red Mark she had seen on him since they first met also wasn't there.
The youngest and boldest Captain in the Spartan Army. Sean had inspired fierce loyalty in his men during his 4 months as Captain. It had always been more than enough to get them through any battle until this day.
Coming into view were thousands of men.
The Barbarians of the east numbered in the thousands. And descended on the Spartans...Without Mercy.
The Barbarian King known as Alrik held a bow with an arrow before firing with such force it blew the head of the Spartan next to Sean who roared in rage.
The four watched a brutal battle worse than anything they had ever seen.
The battle lasted for hours.
The Discipline and training of the Spartan army did little to stem the tide in their favor.
As the fight continued Sean was seen fighting the Barbarian King on a mountain of bodies before being thrown on his back.
The Soldiers faced a massacre while their young captain faced the end of his carrier...And his life.
Korra held her mouth as Alrik was about to kill him.
But to Sean...Victory was worth any price...Even his soul.
As Alrik was about to go for the kill.
"ARES! Destroy my enemies...And my life...Is yours!" Sean yelled before the skies shot lightning down before the skies split apart.
"Um I don't like this." Bolin said alarmed.
Coming through the skies was None other than Ares.
Descending from Olympus he saw the makings of a god in a mere mortal.
Ares would save Sean. He would turn him into the perfect warrior. His servant on Earth.
The others saw Sean kneeling before the God of war.
Only a simple pledge of loyalty was required.
"My Life...Is yours Ares...From this day...I shall carry forth your will." Sean pledged.
And Sean's fate was sealed.
As promised Ares rescued his new disciple.
Ares hands glowed with his power before unleashing it. Bringing forth the power of a god.
One of the Barbarians screamed as he held his head before it exploded.
Another screamed as he floated in the air before being bent backwards snapping his spine.
The rest screamed as they burned to death.
Ares destroyed those who would slaughter Sean and the men who followed him.
As for Sean himself A shield and Sword would hardly fit for the new servant of the God of War.
Three harpies appeared from fire before one carried two swords they were all too familiar with.
The Blades of Chaos. Forged in the foulest depths of Hades.
Sean held out his arms before the chains became red hot before wrapping around his arms.
Once attached the Chains remained so. Chained and seared to the Flesh.
"AHHHHHH!" Sean roared in agonizing pain making Korra cover her mouth in horror.
In return...Ultimate power
Sean growled before swinging his new blades at Alrik cutting off his head.
The Rage of Ares exploded from within.
Sean growled as he looked at the headless body of his enemy before examining his new weapons and grinned.
However Sean would later learn the terrible price for such power.
End flashback
All four stepped back when his memory ended.
"Thats..." Asami tried to say.
"Yeah thats a lot to take in. Thats when my dark path started when I made that dumb choice. It would later come to haunt me for the next 300 years." Sean said.
"I don't understand. You said you hated Ares all my life." Korra said.
"This was before that hate began. I told you I was young and stupid. And that choice led me to making inhumane actions towards everyone I came across." Sean said before she held his face gently before he gently grabbed her hands.
"Like I said all I know is that isn't you anymore." Korra said.
"No. But the memories and the nightmares never end after that." Sean said before they heard the bell. "What the?" Sean asked before seeing the Wolf-Bats won and the other team was a mess.
"Ok...I'm very worried." Bolin said before something crashed into the arena making the Wolf-Bats jump in surprise.
"Now what?" Mako asked before Reznov was seen before he groaned as he sat up before two people jumped in. Two who Sean knew from Asgard.
"Magni and Modi." Sean said glaring at them.
"You know these two?" Korra asked.
"Reznov's half brothers and royal disappointments of Asgard. Thor had favored Reznov more than his oldest sons since he showed more promise and honor. These two however were cruel and vile...Just like I was but far more willingly." Sean said before jumping to his friend.
"Well, well. The Demon." Modi said.
"DO NOT call me that." Sean said taking out his blades.
Korra was quick to note that the Chains were not attached to his skin but rather his armor meaning at some point the chains came off his skin 300 years ago.
"What do you two want now?" Reznov asked fed up with them.
"The Hammer. Hand it over little brother." Modi said.
"Oh this?" Reznov asked taking out Thor's hammer Mjolnir. "Here." Reznov said tossing it to them making them growl.
"Do we look like fools to you?" Magni questioned.
"Nope just worthless idiots." Sean joked making crowd laugh which pissed them off before Sean and Reznov got serious as Modi smashed the hammer with his foot proving it was a fake before Reznov took out the real deal. "Why are you here? I doubt Thor sent you to help me." Sean said.
"We earned that fucking Hammer. And somehow he earns it just for being friends with the likes of you. A demon who slaughtered by the thousands. We could do that ourselves." Modi said.
"And that is why you didn't earn it. It's all about power with you two. Father gave me this since I chose a better path. Unlike you two." Reznov said.
"Enough of this. We'll just kill you both and become more famous than you. Demon of Sparta." Magni said making Sean growl.
(Insert Magni and Modi from God of War soundtrack)
"Oh for the love of." Sean said before Magni charged at him only for Sean to dodge before kicking him back.
Modi charged at his younger brother with the intent to kill before he dodged with ease before using his hammer to smack him away.
Korra had a worried expression on her face watching the two fight the older sons of Thor.
"Don't worry I'm sure they'll be fine." Asami said Reassuring her.
Sean roared before spinning his blades around wildly in the air as Magni blocked the strikes with his blade before Sean charged at him and punched him in the face.
"OOOH! Thats gotta hurt folks!" The Announcer yelled.
"ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS!" Reznov yelled before slamming his hammer on Modi's shield making him grunt in pain as the Vibrations messed him up.
"BROTHER SNOW BLIND!" Modi yelled before they ran to each other.
"ÓÐR BRÓÐIR BLINDR!"
"AHH!" Sean yelled being blinded by a mist and thunder.
"BACK TO BACK!" Reznov yelled.
"Leave now and live in shame!" Sean yelled.
"Oh thats funny coming from a guy who murdered by the thousands." Magni said.
"At least I have an excuse for what I did and I changed. You would do it just for fun." Sean said.
"And whats wrong with that?" Modi mocked making him growl before both were blasted by lightning making them land at the edge of the Arena.
Korra was about to jump in but her team stopped.
"Let me go!" Korra yelled.
"Korra this is way out of our league. This is their fight." Mako said.
Just as both were about to get up the two brothers about to smash their heads only for something to grab Sean and Reznov before their feet landed shocking everyone.
"What just happened?" Asami asked.
Sean shook his head before seeing a golden figure clearly female with gold wings on her back.
"Hey Julia." Sean said before she looked at them (For those who've seen Gods of Egypt picture her god form as Horus's god form when he fought Set)
"You two idiots I swear." Julia said. This was Julia. A daughter of the God Horus of Egypt.
"Yeah lecture us later. Help now." Reznov said before she dashed back down before dropping them before they drop kicked the two brothers forcing them back.
"OOOH! What a drop kick combo!" the Announcer said.
"This guy is getting on my nerves." Reznov said annoyed before slamming his Hammer into Modi who grunted in pain before Julia blasted him with Air.
Sean roared as he fought against Magni before Magni grabbed him and shoved him down with a knife at his face.
"WHERE IS IT! Wheres that Demon who slaughtered for Power!" Magni yelled making him growl before Magni spotted Korra. "Oh she looks good. After I finish with you...I think I'll play with her." Magni said...Big mistake.
(End Song. Insert Rage of Sparta from God of War 3)
Sean roared before kicking him off before grabbing his left arm tight enough to break bones making him cry out in pain before Sean ripped it off.
"AHHHH! AHHHHH!" Magni screamed in horror.
"MAGNI!" Modi yelled before Sean punched Magni down hard before grabbing the other arm and ripped it off making him scream in horror before Sean broke his legs making him yell even louder.
"THAT WAS A MISTAKE." Sean said in a deadly voice that meant death before Sean grabbed his head before ripping it off.
"NO!" Modi yelled before Sean looked at him making him tremble in fear. "Your the D-D-DEVIL!" Modi yelled before Sean dashed at him before cutting off his arms making scream in both agonizing pain and fear.
"You two have caused enough trouble." Sean said before smashing his face with his foot killing him.
(End song)
Julia sighed before she turned human. She had white skin brown eyes with glasses and brown hair...But currently her hair.
Sean and Reznov looked at her before widening their eyes.
"What?" Julia asked not seeing her hair was floating due to the electricity the brothers used before Sean snorted trying to keep his laughter down as they both looked at each other.
"BAHAHAHAHAHA!" Both yelled falling down laughing their asses off along with everyone else.
"WHAT!" Julia asked.
"WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO YOUR HAIR! IT'S FLOATING!" Reznov yelled.
"WHAT?" Julia asked before seeing her reflection in the water. "AHHHH!" Julia yelled in horror making them laugh harder.
Korra and the others couldn't help but laugh.
"YOU GUYS SUCK!" Julia yelled.
Later
"I hate you all so much." Julia said with her hair back to normal now being down to her shoulders.
"Sorry. So your Julia. Sean spoke highly about you." Korra said shaking her hand.
"I'll bet. Among the four of us I keep the idiots in check." Julia said grinning.
"Oy/Hey!" Sean and Reznov said separately making them laugh.
"Wait the four of you? But theres only three." Asami said.
"Oh he's traveling the world trying to find inner peace. He'll show up soon enough." Sean said.
As the others talked to the new member Korra took Sean away.
"You ok?" Sean asked.
"Yeah I'm fine. Listen...Whatever happened in your past is over. Thats not who you are anymore." Korra said.
"Korra I..." Sean tried to say.
"No let me talk. I don't care about what happened all those years ago. Thats in the past. This is the real you." Korra said placing hand where his heart was making him smile lightly.
"I appreciate that Korra. But you haven't heard the full story." Sean said.
"Then Tell me." Korra said.
"In time. But for now I think you'd rather be focusing on your pro bending match in a few days." Sean said since the Arena was damaged from the fight.
"Mmm fair enough. But you are gonna tell me right?" Korra asked grinning making him nod. "Good otherwise I'll beat it out of you." Korra joked making him laugh.
"Oh I'd like to see you try." Sean said placing an arm around her as they walked back to the others.
Authors Note: And another one done in less than a day. I love weekends. Now Next Chapter is the Championship match but with a major change in it and another fight between gods.
