Chapter 21 Rebel Spirit
It's been two months since Sean and Korra got married and both were enjoying it greatly.
Since then nothing major had come up. No death fights with any of Sean's enemies. No evil Gods or monsters and no issues in the four nations.
Of course the council of Republic city was disbanded and it's first president known as Raiko. (As much as I hate this fucker I had to use him since theres no one else. But I have plans to make him miserable)
And of course Tenzin's brother Bumi retired from the united forced and moved to Air temple island much to the irritation of said brother.
Mako got a job working with the police and Asami was working on fixing her father's company from his mistakes.
As for the recent married couple.
Sean chuckled seeing Korra racing the airbending kids using air scooters with Ikki in the lead before Korra went into the avatar state to go faster before passing Bumi who waved a flag while she landed next to her husband.
"The Avatar is the winner." Bumi said as Korra's eyes stopped glowing before grinning at her husband who wrapped his arms around her.
"Do I get a prize?" Korra asked making him smirk before kissing her as she held his face before Ikki rushed to them looking annoyed much to their amusement.
"No fair! You can't go into the Avatar state to win." Ikki said making her stick her tongue out.
"You did what?" Tenzin asked walking to them.
"Nice going brat." Sean said.
"The Avatar State is not to be used as a booster rocket. You are toying with a dangerous power that you obviously do not appreciate." Tenzin said.
"Oh please." Sean said rolling his eyes.
"It's the Avatar State, And I'm the Avatar. Who appreciates more than me?" Korra asked.
"Clearly, you need more training to grasp the depths of your spiritual connections, not to mention that you're still a long way from mastering airbending." Tenzin said.
"I have mastered airbending." Korra said before demonstrating said skills. "See? Mastered." Korra said making Sean chuckle.
"Looks pretty good to me." Bumi said making Tenzin sigh.
"Is it too late for you to un-retire from the united forces?" Tenzin asked if not begged.
"The paperwork's gone through, little brother. From now on, It's 24/7 Bumi time!" Bumi said grabbing his face making him sigh.
"You've mastered your version of Airbending. Now you need to master real airbending incase another evil god shows up. You held your own against Hell walkers in Midgard pretty good and helped me against Freya. But I still have enemies out there. If you wanna help out you need to take your training even more serious." Sean said making her grin.
"Well...When you put it like that. Just train me to be like you." Korra said.
"Uh I can't do that. The kind of training you want me to put you through requires you to lose something." Sean said confusing her.
"What are you talking about?" Korra asked.
"Your humanity." Sean said making her eyes widen before sighing.
"The things Ares made you do." Korra realized.
"Sometimes humanity can hold you back in battle. Makes you hesitate." Sean said before placing his hand on her cheek. "But I can always still teach you to be a great warrior with it intact." Sean said making her smile before kissing him.
"Hopefully our visit to the air temples will help you in this training and your spiritual training as well." Tenzin said.
"It would be nice to see some new sights for a change. I don't like staying in the city since that President was elected." Sean said.
"Now that the President is in office and I'm not needed on the council I can finally relax with my family and give Korra the attention she needs." Tenzin said as she held Sean close.
"I'm more interested in this kind of attention." Korra said holding her husband making him chuckle.
"HA! Relax. I'd pay money to see that. Maybe I'll take along just to see Vacation Tenzin." Bumi said.
"Your not invited." Tenzin said.
"Before we go on your dad's study trip, we're going to have some real fun in my hometown at the glacier spirits festival. They've got rides, Games, and all kinds of friend food on sticks." Korra said making the kids cheer.
Later
The group was on a boat heading for the South Pole.
Currently Sean and Korra was leaning against Naga who slept.
"Whats with that grin?" Sean asked amused.
"I still can't believe we've been married for two months. And these have been the best days of my life since we started dating." Korra said making him smile before kissing her.
"Likewise." Sean said.
"So...When exactly did you make me immortal? On my birthday?" Korra asked curious.
"Well, technically your not immortal just yet. That gift doesn't activate until you turn 21. I figured you would want to mature out a little bit." Sean said making her grin.
"Are you hoping these grow out some more?" Korra asked cupping her breasts making him burst out laughing before kissing her.
"I couldn't care less about those. I love you for you." Sean said making her smile.
"You are so sweet." Korra said as they looked at the stars. More accurately the Dragon constellation. "Oh that reminds me. You never told me how you met Turok." Korra said making him frown.
"No I guess I didn't. Unlike with Reznov and Julia...our meeting wasn't exactly pleasant." Sean said concerning her.
"What happened?" Korra asked before his eyes glowed.
Flashback over a hundred years ago
Sean arrived at a village seeing it was completely destroyed before walking inside seeing the villagers brutally killed in the worst ways possible and saw several dead monsters as well guessing they attacked the villagers for food.
"Oh no." Sean said looking around to see if there were any survivors.
Thats when he heard the whimpering of a woman making him head to the sounds with caution.
Arriving at the source of the sound he found a little boy kneeling over a woman who was clearly dying. The boy was clearly five years old before facing him as he approached them before kneeling to the woman who was on the verge of dying.
"Protect him...Please." She begged before dying making Sean sigh before closing her eyes before looking to the boy who was covered in blood who cried before Sean offered him a hand.
"Come with me...Little brother." Sean said picking him up before they left the village.
End flashback
Korra had tears in her eyes before rubbing them away.
"I never knew Turok went through something like that." Korra said sadly.
"I took it upon myself to raise him. Took him to Olympus. The reason he acts out the way he does is because it's his way of masking the pain. It's why I let him get away with most of his nonsense. I know what he's going through." Sean said making her hold him close.
"I think you did good for him." Korra said making him nod.
"Maybe when Jinora's older she can help him heal the same way you did for me. Love can heal even the greatest wounds. For me your living proof of this." Sean said making her smile before kissing him.
Next morning
The boat made it to the Southern water Tribe docks where many were waiting for them.
"Gran-Gran!" The Airbending kids said to their grandmother who laughed.
"Oh, you've all gotten so big." Katara said before Jinora hugged her aunt Kya.
"We missed you, aunt Kya." Jinora said making her laugh.
"Oh, I missed you too." Kya said as Tenzin and Bumi walked to them. "Your father doesn't bring you around nearly enough. He's probably scared I'll beat him up like when we were kids." Kya said lightly punching his shoulder.
"I'm not scared of you...Anymore." Tenzin said making most laugh.
"I trust you two have been enjoying your marriage?" Tonraq asked his daughter who smiles holding her husband.
"You have no idea." Korra said making him smirk.
"Wow, look at all these people who came out to greet us." Bolin said.
"They aren't here for us. They're here for them." Korra said pointing at a ship heading towards them from the Northern water Tribe.
"Great." Sean said annoyed as Korra held him.
"Calm down. This is the last time you'll ever see him again." Korra said.
"It better." Sean said as Unalaq walked off along with two teenagers who were clearly twins.
"Who are the lovely ladies?" Bolin asked making Sean scoff in amusement.
"Eska and Desna. Korra's cousins...Desna is a guy by the way." Sean said making him widen his eyes.
"Uh...Which one is Desna?" Bolin asked.
"You have horrible tastes dude." Turok said making Sean chuckle before Unalaq approached them.
"Good to see you again, Avatar Korra." Unalaq said.
"Uh I wish I could say the same. Still pissed at what you tried to do." Korra said frowning at him.
"I was only looking out for your best interests. I merely believed Kruger was not suited for you due to his past." Unalaq said making Sean scoff.
"Fuck off." Sean said before Korra held.
"Easy Sean calm down." Korra said calming him down.
Soon the group went into the festival.
"It's a shame the southerners have abandoned all connections to the spirits, even during the most hallowed times." Unalaq said.
"I've always loved the glacier spirits festival. Sean would always take me here when I was a kid when the more stuck up members of the White Lotus tried to stop me." Korra said making Sean chuckle remembering that.
"This festival used to be a solemn time of fasting and meditation. Now it's just a chance to watch some rube try to stick an entire arctic hen in his mouth." Unalaq said as they watched Bolin do just that.
"What?" Bolin asked though muffled making Sean and Korra laugh a little.
"Oh Bolin." Sean said shaking his head.
"Traditions change. It's not the end of the world." Tonraq said.
"Aye. My people's culture changed after I broke off all ties with Ares into a better society." Sean said agreeing with his father in law.
"Tell that to the sailors who are being attacked by angry spirits in southern waters. Some traditions have purpose." Unalaq said.
"Wait, Spirits are attacking ships?" Korra asked making him nod.
"I'm surprised the Avatar doesn't know about that. Apparently you haven't been given all the information you need. Or perhaps your so called Husband does not want you doing your duties." Unalaq said before Sean got in his face.
"Say that again to my face." Sean said glaring at him.
"Calm down." Korra said pulling him back.
"So you claim you didn't know?" Unalaq asked.
"If I knew I would have told her and we could handle it together. I don't keep secrets like that from her. I told every vile thing I ever did during my dark past." Sean said.
"Including the murder of your entire family?" Unalaq asked pissing him off.
"Told and showed me. That was an accident. A cruel trick by Ares. Thats not who he is anymore. People do change for the better." Korra said.
"Perhaps. But regardless It would be my honor to instruct you in the spiritual ways of the Norther Water Tribe." Unalaq said.
"I wouldn't mind learning to fight spirits. Airbending is getting pretty boring." Korra said.
"Hardly." Sean said.
"Tenzin is Korra's instructor. He can give her all the teaching she needs." Tonraq said.
"Agreed." Sean said.
"So you say." Unalaq said walking forward.
"Don't I get a say?" Korra asked.
"Korra I'm asking you to trust me and don't listen to him. I don't trust him. And no it's not because he only sees the worst in me. My instincts tell me not to trust him and I trust those instincts. I don't need to tell you what happened the last time I didn't listen to them." Sean said.
"The temple." Korra said remembering.
"Exactly." Sean said.
Later
Soon everyone was in the dining hall.
"This is a wonderful feast in your honor, Uncle." Korra said.
"This is nothing. When this festival was founded, the tribal elders would commune with the spirits. People would watch the brilliant displays of light as spirits danced in the sky." Unalaq said.
"Wow. I've never seen that." Korra said.
"And that is a shame, since the Avatar is the bridge between the material world and the spirits. That is why I want so badly to teach you, to help you fulfill your destiny." Unalaq said.
"No." Sean said glaring at him. "Besides she still needs to master Airbending. And Tenzin is more than capable of teaching her." Sean said.
"Every Avatar before you traveled the world to learn. It was Tenzin, Your father and your now official Husband who kept you secluded at the south pole." Unalaq said surprising her.
"I thought Aang ordered the White Lotus to keep me down here." Korra said looking at her husband.
"I wanted you to stay close to your family since even the Avatar shouldn't be forced away from his or her family by force. I didn't want you to become detached to whats important as a human being." Sean said making her smile before he glared. "Plus theres another reason we kept you here and he knows why." Sean said glaring at him.
"I had nothing to do with that." Unalaq said.
"I don't fucking believe you nor do I fucking care." Sean said.
"What exactly are you talking about?" Korra asked.
"It..." Sean tried to say but sighed. "It doesn't matter. It's in the past and thats all that matters. All I know is he was involved somehow." Sean said glaring at Unalaq.
As they were talking Tenzin listened in.
"Looks like someone's trying to take your place as the Avatar's stick-in-the-mud Mentor." Bumi teased his little brother.
"Bumi, don't pick on Tenzin. You know he's always been sensitive." Kya teased making him glare.
"I'm not sensitive." Tenzin said making them laugh while Katara was concerned about the interaction between her children.
Later
Soon Sean and Korra were at the Festival before Sean placed cotton candy in her mouth making her giggle.
"You spoil me you know that?" Korra asked.
"Thats my job." Sean said holding her close
"So what exactly were you talking about before? What made you keep me here to train instead of traveling the world?" Korra asked.
"It...Look, You know I only keep secrets from you that don't involve my dark past to keep you safe. This is one of them. All I can tell you is that I know Unalaq was somehow involved. I couldn't prove it no matter how hard I tried but I knew. I trusted my instincts back then I trust them now and they tell me not to trust him no matter what he's offering. He's manipulative and he'll expose everyone's past just go get people to side with him." Sean said.
"Can you at least tell me what happened?" Korra asked.
"No. And not because I don't trust you which I do with my life. It's better you don't know so your not so overly worried about something thats no longer a concern." Sean said making her sigh before he kissed her making her smile.
"You will tell me one day...Right?" Korra asked.
"Of course. Just not today...Or tomorrow." Sean said knowing what she was gonna do making her burst out giggling before kissing him again.
"I am not that predicable? Am I?" Korra asked.
"You hid in the snow every time you played Hide and Seek." Sean said making her giggle before she spotted something.
"Uh oh." Korra said grinning making him turn and saw Bolin hitting on Eska.
"Oh god dude don't." Sean said chuckling.
"Those two creep me out. They smell like a Grandma's attic." Korra said making him snicker before leading her away. "Sean, Why won't you let Unalaq train me to connect to the Spirits? I get you have issues and all but if knows so much wouldn't that be a good thing?" Korra asked.
"Just because he knows so much does not mean he's a good person. Let me tell you a story. I once knew this man Midgard who was an expert in hand to hand combat and I learned a few things from him. Only Later did I realize he learned his methods from beating innocent children." Sean said shocking her. "So it shows just because they know so much does not mean they are good people." Sean said.
"What happened when you learned this?" Korra asked.
"I threw him over a cliff." Sean said.
"Of course you did." Korra said grinning.
Later that night
Sean and Korra slept in small house holding her close as he was without his armor.
Suddenly Naga woke up and started howling waking them.
"The hell?" Sean asked before they rushed outside to her.
"Quiet, Naga. You'll wake everyone up." Korra said but she continued waking everyone up.
"The fuck is with all the noise?" Reznov asked before Sean looked out seeing something appear as did Korra.
"What is that?" Korra asked as Sean summoned his blades before it dashed at them but Sean pushed Korra out the way as it smacked him into a wall making him grunt before it held his wrests making him growl.
"Get away from him!" Korra yelled using Firebending on it but it did little effect before Sean roared as he kicked it off. "What is that?" Korra asked.
"A dark spirit." Tenzin said.
Sean however summoned the blade of Artemis before slashing at it but it dodged everything Sean used before Korra and her father used water bending to contain it but it broke out and threw them away before Sean summoned the trident to use the water in the area to attack it but it just dashed at him before stabbing him in the side making him growl before throwing him into the festival grounds as he quickly stood up.
"Ok...Greek Weapons aren't having much effect." Sean said before summoning the Leviathan Axe. "Lets try this." Sean said as it charged at him before slamming his axe into the side making it roar before slamming him away into a stand.
Growling he stood up again as it tried to attack.
Only for water to start spiraling around it.
"Huh?" Sean asked before seeing Unalaq using waterbending to calm it down before the glow turned from purple to yellow before it walked away.
"Go in peace." Unalaq said as it vanished.
Sean groaned holding his side as he fell to his knees.
"Sean!" Korra yelled rushing to him helping him up before looking at her uncle. "How were you able to control that spirit when no one else could?" Korra asked.
"As your father could tell you, I have spent my life studying the spirits and learning their ways. All of this knowledge is lost in the south, but I could teach you everything I know." Unalaq said.
"Chief Unalaq, clearly you are very knowledgeable, But Korra still has much to learn about airbending, and I hope that going to the air temples will help her connect with the past avatars." Tenzin said making her sigh.
"The air temples will teach her nothing. Only I can give her the training she needs to be a complete avatar." Unalaq said making Sean growl.
"I told you no Before!" Sean yelled.
"Hey! I'm right here. Anyone wanna ask me what I think?" Korra asked
"Korra, I am telling you now he has an alternative motive behind this." Sean said.
"I'm sorry but he just saved your life when even you couldn't stop that thing. I have to do this." Korra said making him frown.
"Then you can do it without me." Sean said making her eyes widen in shock along with everyone else.
"Sean...I..." Korra tried to say.
"I have been a pawn before and fucking refuse to walk down that path again just so it could benefit someone like him. You wanna walk down that path? FINE! But I will have no part of it." Sean said walking away before facing her. "You know I thought you of all people would respect my judgment after knowing what I went through in something like this." Sean said continuing his walk making her eyes widen.
"Sean wait!" Korra yelled before he used the Travel stone and vanished shocking everyone. Korra just stood there before falling to her knees before she began to cry before her parents rushed to her.
"What did I do?" Korra asked crying as her mother held her before Tonraq glared at his brother.
"See what you've done!" Tonraq yelled.
"That was his choice to leave." Unalaq said making him glare harder before approaching him.
"THIS. Is exactly why I wanted you to stay away from her. You cause nothing but problems." Tonraq said.
"That was not my intention." Unalaq said.
"Keep telling yourself that." Tonraq said before helping his daughter up before leading her back inside.
Next morning
Tenzin and his family were getting ready to travel to the Air temples while Korra and the others stayed behind.
"I think you forgot a couple of things." Katara said with her other two children beside her with their things.
"Mother, I think I need some time alone with my family right now." Tenzin said.
"This is your family, Tenzin. When you get to be my age, you'll be thankful for the time you had with your siblings. Besides, I think it's important that you all visit your father's home together." Katara said as Bumi wrapped an arm around his shoulder.
"Come on, it'll be fun." Bumi said.
"I'm dying to see that laid-back Vacation Tenzin." Kya said.
"All right. Hop on." Tenzin said.
"Room for one more?" Turok said approaching them with Korra and the others.
"Your coming?" Tenzin asked.
"I trust my brother's judgment above all else. If he doesn't trust Unalaq I'm not staying to help." Turok said.
"Very well." Tenzin said before approaching Korra. "Any sign of him?" Tenzin asked making her shake her head no.
"I screwed up." Korra said sadly.
"Korra, I'm sure Sean just needs his space right now. Give him time and things will be back to normal for you two." Tenzin said as she hugged him.
"Take care." Korra said as he airbent Bumi on Oogi.
"Korra." Turok said approaching her. "Listen. I'm sure my brother will be back soon. He just needs some time alone since he feels angry. He trusts his instincts more than anything. If he doesn't trust Unalaq theres a reason for that. But I'm sure he'll be back for you soon. He loves you too much to hate you for something so small." Turok said making her smile lightly.
"Since when are you so wise?" Korra asked making him smirk.
"I may pull a lot of jokes but I know when to be serious and supportive." Turok said before hugging her.
"Thank you." Korra said. "Have fun." Korra said as he jumped on Oogi next to Jinora who smiled at him before they took off.
