Note: This story happens at the same Australian Summer as the episode "Christmas Swim", sometime after it, making Bluey be 7 and Bingo be 5.

Bandit was driving the car with his daughters sitting on the back. As he was driving, he asked them:

"So, are you ready to spend the weekend with grandad Bob?"

"Yes!" Bluey exclaimed. "I love our annual weekends at his cabin by the lake. At all the two times I went there, it was a lot of fun."

"You can bet on that" Bandit replied. "Oh, I remember how I used to love those weekends when I was a kid…"

He then noticed that Bingo was very quiet.

"How about you, Bingo? Aren't you excited? It's your first weekend with grandad Bob."

"I am, but… I'm a little nervous" Bingo replied. "What if I don't like it?"

"Oh, don't worry, squirt" Bandit said. "Grandad will make sure this weekend is as awesome as it can be. I can ensure you that."

They stopped at the park of the dock and, when the girls got out of the car with their backpacks on, they run to the dock, where a fishing boat was moored. Bob was there, wearing a captain hat, but seeing his granddaughters coming, he got out as they run towards him, calling:

"Grandad!"

"Oh, there're my little sweet pies!" Bob replied, while kneeling and getting a big hug from Bluey and Bingo. "Are you ready for your weekend at the lake?"

"Yeah, the lake!" the two little girls shouted, excited.

Bob: THIS EPISODE OF BLUEY IS CALLED "THE LAKE"

As Bandit arrived, Bob had already put the girls' backpacks on the boat and was now putting the life jackets on them.

"Hey, dad" Bandit greeted.

"Oh, hey son!" Bob replied, going for a hug to his son. "How are you?"

"You mean right now or after you take these little daredevils away for an entire weekend?" Bandit joked, causing Bob to laugh.

"Always a joker, hein, Bandy?" Bob asked, turning to his granddaughters. "He takes that from me, you know?"

The girls released some giggling.

"All righty then, the girls are all yours, dad" Bandit said. "Gotta go."

When he was about to leave, Bob said:

"Wait, Bandit… Are you sure you don't want to come? It would be a great weekend… just you, me and the girls. The only thing that could make it perfect was if your brothers were here, but…"

"Sorry, dad, but I have a lot of work to finish" Bandit replied, as he moved away. "And with these two out of the house, it's my chance to have a head start."

"Okay, then…" Bob replied, looking disappointed. "Bye…"

Bob saw Bandit getting to car, get in there and then go away. Bluey and Bingo saw that Bob was keeping looking to where their dad's car was and the former called:

"Grandad, are you okay?"

Wakening to reality, he rushed to say:

"Yes, of course I am. Okay, let's get this weekend at the lake started. Now, before you get on deck, what is that a good sailor must do at all times?"

Despite Bingo wasn't sure what to answer, Bluey did and so she said:

"Listen to the captain."

"Exactly" Bob replied. "So, whatever happens, you must always listen to me… no matter what. It's the best way to avoid accidents."

"Yes, grandad" Bluey and Bingo said at the same time.

"Yes, captain grandad" Bob corrected.

The girls giggled and then said, while saluting:

"Yes, captain grandad."

"All right, let's do this. You can now get on board."

"Hurray!"

After they all got on board, Bob, in the cockpit, said to his granddaughters:

"Okay, girls, we're about to set off. Remain on your places, hold on tight and don't lean in too much… I'm talking directly to you, Bluey."

"Yes, captain grandad" Bluey replied.

"All right, here we go!" Bob exclaimed, pulling the level and causing the boat to move through the water.

As they moved, the girls looked as the boat sailed through the lake. Bluey was loving it, as she felt the breeze passing through her fur with her tong out. Bingo, however, couldn't help but feeling a little uncomfortable, especially because of the strange movements she was feeling. Carefully, she got up and went to the cockpit, calling, while pulling Bob's tail to get his attention:

"Grandad?"

"Yes, Bingo?" he asked, while steering the boat.

"How long will we be here?"

"Well, it's still sometime until we get to the cabin by the lake" he replied. "And I was thinking we could have stops to admire the sights and have some fishing time."

"Oh…" Bingo said, disappointed.

Bob noticed that and, stopping the engine of the boat for a bit, he kneeled before Bingo and told her:

"Look, I know the first time on a boat can be a little… scary. I felt the same the way on my first time on a boat."

"But, grandad, you're a ship captain" Bingo said.

"Yes, I am, but I was also a little pup like you" Bob told. "Look, just try to relax and admire what's around you. There's a reason why I take this route to the cabin."

"Why?" Bingo asked.

"Bingo, come see this!" Bluey called.

Bingo went outside the cockpit, got up to the seat and look to what Bluey was seeing and she gasped for what she saw. Swimming at some distance of the boat was…

"Platypus!" the two girls exclaimed, as they saw the strange semi-aquatic mammal swimming by.

"I didn't know there were platypuses here" Bingo said.

"There are" Bluey told. "They have nests nearby. And that's not the only animals living here."

As Bluey said that, Bingo heard a chuckling sound and she saw something flying over them that were…

"Kookaburras!" Bingo exclaimed.

"Yeah, there's a lot of them flying around" Bluey replied.

And so the two sisters started looking around for more animals, Bob got out of the cockpit, holding a camera, and took a picture of the two girls looking for animals, taking the photo and shaking it to develop the photo. Approaching them putting his arms around his granddaughters shoulders, he asked Bingo:

"So, are you ready to give this trip by the lake a chance, Bingo?"

She took some seconds to think of an answer, but then the young Red Heeler replied:

"Yes, I am."

"Perfect, so let's get going" Bob said, while heading towards the cockpit. "There's still a lot to see and we still have to fish something for dinner."

With that, Bob pulled the level of the engine and they started moving forward, now with Bingo more confident regarding that trip.
