Chapter 25 The Sting

Asami was not happy right now. She had tried to sell her Mecha-Tanks on the South but the ship transporting it was hijacked by the North making it even more difficult to make money for her company.

So currently she and Mako were heading to Korra's house since Raiko found out about their plan.

"I don't think she or Sean are in the best mood right now." Mako said not wanting to be here.

"We need to find a new plan to help the South and..." Asami tried to say before she and Mako heard Korra crying inside. "Korra?" Asami said concerned opening the door before finding her on her couch curled up before she rushed to her.

"Korra? Whats wrong?" Asami asked before she opened her eyes showing they were red from crying so much.

"Sean's dead." Korra cried out shocking them.

"What? What happened?" Asami asked holding her close.

"We were on our way to the fire nation after Raiko found out about our plan to have Iroh help us. Then Eska and Desna attacked us but we held them back. A dark spirit came at us and I tried to calm it down but it didn't work and Sean threw me out of the way as it crashed into him dragging him under. He never came back up!" Korra cried as Asami held her while Mako had a look of guilt on his face.

"Are you sure?" Asami asked.

"I searched out there for hours. All I found was his sister's necklace." Korra said holding it in her hand.

"Oh Korra." Asami said holding her as she cried.

Thats when president Raiko and his forces barged in.

"Where is he?" Raiko asked expecting an answer.

"Wheres who?" Mako asked.

"The demon of Sparta. I have a warrant for his arrest." Raiko said making Korra glare at him.

"Your too late. He's dead and it's your fault." Asami said.

"What do you mean he's dead?" Raiko demanded.

"A dark spirit attacked him and Korra and he gave his life to save her's." Asami said holding Korra close.

"So the Demon is dead? Good. One less problem for my city." Raiko said smugly making Korra roar as she tried to firebend him but Mako held her back.

"GET OUT!" Korra roared.

"Fine. I'll just have the papers print this out saying we are finally safe." Raiko said leaving.

Next day

When the papers about Sean's death had been released Raiko expected everyone to be happy and celebrate for the words he told the editor to use.

However to his shock it had an opposite reaction and his reputation suffered greatly for it as people were now questioning if he should remain in office for his cruel and vile views of Sean's former past and insulting Korra's marriage. Even worse some important people were beginning to question his judgment and withdrew their support.

All in all Raiko's reputation had suffered a devastating blow for his arrogance. (I told you I had plans for him)

As for Korra.

She was with Asami in her home trying to get past her loss.

"Not even a full year into the marriage and I already lost him." Korra said with a cup of tea in hand.

"Korra...You don't know if Sean's actually dead. After all he's survived worse." Asami said.

"Where else could he be? I looked all over that place for hours." Korra said.

Before Asami could say more Mako walked in.

"I know I shouldn't interrupt this but one of the men who was transporting your stuff to the south came back. He's giving his statement and I thought you would like to hear it." Mako said.

"Ok." Asami said getting up with Korra.

"Maybe you should stay here and try to relax a little." Mako said.

"I...guess." Korra said sitting back down as the two left.

When they arrived at the station they were behind the viewing glass.

"Is there something you wanna tell me?" Asami asked Mako.

"What?" Mako asked confused.

"Ever since you found out what happened you have been avoiding Korra at every turn." Asami said.

"I...Just think she needs her space." Mako said quickly.

"Thats a lie and you know it. Whats going on?" Asami asked wanting an answer making him sigh.

"I'm the one who told Raiko about your plan." Mako said shocking her.

"WHAT!" Asami yelled.

"I didn't know this was gonna happen. He asked me a direct question and I couldn't risk him finding out and losing my job." Mako said.

"How did you even know!" Asami demanded to know.

"Bolin told me. Look I feel guilty enough about it as it is." Mako said.

"Mako, you need to tell her the truth." Asami said.

"Are you nuts! She'll kill me the second I tell her." Mako said.

"She's in pain because of what you did. And eventually Raiko's gonna tell her just to get at her to have the last laugh. Your gonna have to tell her. Either you do it or I will." Asami said before leaving making him sigh.

Meanwhile

"What do you mean you didn't get her!" Unalaq asked his children.

"The demon gave us enough trouble but then a dark spirit attacked and killed him." Eska said holding her side still injured.

"We tried to subdue the Avatar but in her rage she nearly killed Eska. I made a call to retreat not wanting to take chance in her current state of mind." Desna said.

"So Kruger is dead?" Unalaq said. They expected him to be pleased. "This is not good. I wanted him dead after everything was complete but now the gods may intervene in my plans now. Making things impossible if they do." Unalaq said.

"We can still capture her. She will most likely be grieving from the death of her husband." Eska said.

"No. In your current condition you are no match for her. I have something else in mind." Unalaq said pulling out an ancient scroll of Greece before opening it.

Suddenly one of his soldiers screamed in pain as his body was broken down before someone else stood in his place. Alrik the Barbarian king who Sean defeated once more not too long ago.

"Who dares to summon me?" Alrik questioned.

"I did. I have a task for you. One of which deals a blow to Kruger in Death. Capture his widow and bring her to me." Unalaq said making him laugh.

"If it strikes a blow to him then consider it done." Alrik said leaving.

"Why summon him?" Desna asked. "He already failed twice."

"But he nearly killed Kruger when he was just a Spartan Captain. And almost no one could stand against him in mortal standards. He will do just fine for the job." Unalaq said.

Meanwhile

"So whats this idea of yours?" Asami asked as she sat with Korra.

"A sting operation. I was thinking we'd set up a bait ship, take it out. into the open ocean, and capture whoever attacks it." Mako said.

"That sounds like it could work." Korra said.

"Let's do it." Asami said.

"It's not that easy. For the plan to work, we need the police, and Beifong already said no. I'd ask for Reznov and Julia but their out searching where Sean went missing." Mako said looking away as Korra looked depressed.

"We can make it work." Asami said.

"Just the two of us?" Mako asked.

"No the three of us. I'm helping too." Korra said.

"Uh...I don't think thats a good idea since..." Mako tried to say.

"Look I need to get my mind off this. Besides you've both been supportive since you found out. I need to pay you back." Korra said making Asami frown at Mako when Korra didn't see.

"Ok first we need a ship I can ask Varrick for one." Asami said.

Later

Soon a ship was filled with dummy crates.

"The ship is loaded with dummy crates we can head out." Asami said.

"Not yet we need some extra muscle." Mako said.

"So just get your brother." Korra said making him frown. "Am I missing something here?" Korra asked.

"He's become caught up in his fame for that stupid movie Varrick is making him do." Mako said.

"Oooh." Korra said seeing the problem before snickering a little.

"What?" Asami asked.

"I remember when I first met Bolin how he was trying to impress me with his skills." Korra said giggling remembering how they first met. "I also seem to recall someone being a major asshole when we first met." Korra said grinning at Mako making Asami giggle.

"Ok thats fair." Mako said making them burst out laughing while he sighed.

"So who do you wanna get? Reznov and Julia are still looking and Turok is still with Tenzin's family." Korra said.

"I really hate to say it but we are gonna have to ask the triple threats for help." Mako said shocking them.

"WHAT!" The two yelled in shock.

"Look I don't like it anymore than you do but we seriously need some help." Mako said making them sigh.

"All right lets just get this over with." Korra said.

Later

Soon enough the three and the triple threats were out at sea to where the ambushes happened.

While Mako was waiting for the ambush Korra was leaning on the railing holding both her former engagement necklace and Sean's sister's necklace before a single tear trailed down her chin.

"You ok?" Asami asked making her rub her eyes.

"No. This is all my fault. If I just listened to him when I had the chance all of this could have been avoided." Korra said.

"Korra you couldn't have possibly known this was gonna happen and Sean would tell you to stop blaming yourself for this." Asami said holding her close. "How did you two first meet anyway?" Asami asked trying to take her mind off his possible death.

Korra could only smile at that memory.

"I was four years old and I had just found out I was the Avatar. When the White Lotus first came I showed off a little since I was so excited." Korra said smiling making Asami giggle. "Then Zeus showed up saying Aang had caused great harm for leaving the airbenders. And said I needed a protector to insure history would not repeat. Thats when I met him. He was strong, Kind, Caring, Funny. He made me laugh every chance he could." Korra said giggling a little from all the events back then.

"Then something changed." Asami said.

"When I turned 13 I started having feelings for him. He trained me, Made me smile, Protected me and cheered me up when I was feeling down. I knew what my feelings were telling me. Then I saw it." Korra said.

"Saw what?" Asami asked.

"The pain in his eyes. Pain, Loss, Betrayal, Regret. I was so shocked by what I saw I realized I really didn't know him all that well when it came to his past. So I asked around but no one would say anything other than he had a complicated past. And now I know why. And I don't hate him for anything he's done. Thats not him anymore. I love him for who he is now. He's living proof even the very worst in this world can change." Korra said smiling while Asami frowned knowing she had to tell her the truth about Mako.

"Korra theres something I need to tell you." Asami said.

"What?" Korra asked before Mako motioned for them to come to him which they did.

"We've been double crossed. We have to get off this ship." Mako said leading them to a boat only to come face to face with the Triple threats.

"Going..." They never got to finish as Korra air bent them off the ship before they got into a boat and left with ease.

"What was that about?" Korra asked making Asami frown before widening her eyes.

"Oh no." Asami said.

They made it back to her warehouse and found it completely empty of everything.

"Someone knew what we were planning." Korra said before seeing Asami's defeated look.

"I'm ruined." Asami said before Korra held her.

"Asami we're gonna fix this. You two helped me when I needed some comfort. I'm gonna find who did this." Korra said about to run off as Mako closed his eyes.

"Korra, wait." Mako said stopping her. "Theres something I need to tell you right now." Mako said.

"What is it?" Korra asked.

"I was the one who told Raiko about your plan to use his troops without his permission." Mako said shocking her before glaring at him.

"What?" Korra asked in a low voice with barely restrained anger.

"He asked me if you were up to anything and Bolin told me before hand. I had to tell him since I didn't want to put my job on the line." Mako said with his head down.

"Let me get this straight. Your the reason that Sean my husband...Is dead?" Korra asked barley keeping it together.

"I am so sorry. If knew this was gonna happen I never would have told him." Mako apologized before the whole place began to shake as Korra was letting off great untamed power as she glared at him.

"Korra please. Lets just calm down." Asami said.

"You knew didn't you?" Korra asked.

"He told me yes. I told him to tell you and I was gonna tell you on the boat." Asami said as Korra closed her eyes as tears came out.

"You two still wanna be friends...Never talk to me again...Ever." Korra cried before running off.

"Korra!" Mako yelled about to go after her.

"Let her go. She's just angry. She just needs her space." Asami said sadly knowing how badly Korra was hurt and betrayed by those she loved.

Korra ran into the kennel where Spyro and Naga were at.

"Whats wrong?" Spyro asked.

"Not now. Just fly us to the Air temples. I need to be as far away as possible." Korra said wiping her tears.

"Very well." Spyro said before flying off with the two.

Korra continued to cry as she was comforted by Naga.

"Sean, I'm so sorry." Korra cried wanting her love back.

Meanwhile

Sean was on a stone table somewhere before he slowly began to open his eyes but they were blurred but still saw some people.

"He's beginning to wake up." Someone said before Sean widened his eyes.

"KORRA!" Sean yelled slashing his blades at whoever was around him before.

"Calm yourself my son." Zeus said as Sean stumbled.

"Father...I can't see." Sean said trying to get his vision restored.

"Your eyesight was damaged from the dark spirit. Give it a moment." Zeus said as Sean shook his head having some of his vision restored.

"Where am I?" Sean asked.

"On Olympus. There is a crisis that Unalaq has started. Involving the Spirit portal he tricked Korra into opening." Hades said.

"What are you talking about?" Sean asked.

"You truly are foolish." Ares said making his presence known making Sean growl.

"KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT!" Sean roared taking out his blades.

"SILENCE!" Zeus roared stopping them. "There are bigger concerns then your grudges. Put them aside for later." Zeus said.

"Fine. What's the problem?" Sean asked.

"The portals were sealed for a reason. It goes back 10,000 years when we gods of Olympus shortly began our rule and the creation of the lands Zeus created." Athena said.

"And also to the origins of the Avatar cycle." Zeus said.

"The Avatar cycle is 10,000 years old?" Sean asked surprised. He knew the Cycle was ancient but not that ancient. "Ok start at the beginning." Sean said.

"Do you recall the great evils I told you about after the great war between us and the titans?" Zeus asked.

"Of course. The evils were born after the war and had to keep them in check." Sean said.

However I realized keeping them stored inside Pandoras box was not the best solution. So I came up with something else to keep the great evils and power of light balanced. I created two powerful spirits. One of the light and one of darkness. Raava was the spirit of light and Vaatu the spirit of darkness." Zeus said.

"You created them to keep a balance between the two so neither would be stronger than the other." Sean said.

"Precisely. However Raava always kept him contained within the lands I created until a certain incident occurred. A firebender known as Wan split them when he misunderstood the situation. When they split we told him the truth. He was ashamed of his actions but vowed to make amends despite Raava's original protests. We told him where to find the other mountain lion turtles to receive the bending of the other elements." Zeus said.

"Wait a second...He was..." Sean tried to say.

"The first Avatar. With Raava's help he learned to control all four elements to defeat Vaatu. When Harmonic convergence began which is when all the planets in the solar system are perfectly aligned he merged with Raava and defeated Vaatu by sealing him inside a tree within the Spirit world. In order to prevent anyone from undoing his work he had every spirit save for a small few return to the spirit world where he became the bridge between the two worlds." Zeus said.

"I never knew the First Avatar did something that great." Sean said remembering how he said Korra would be greater than the first. He still believed that without question.

"Wan tried to bring peace to the lands but sadly man's hatred for other men prevented that and constant war took place. For decades he fought with all his being never focusing on anything else. Until he was at his end due to exhaustion and old age. However we decided the lands needed the Avatar in order to ensure peace so we used the last of the Titans magic to ensure when the Avatar dies a new one would be born with Raava's power." Poseidon said with respect.

"And thus the Avatar cycle was born and Korra's destiny to be the current one was shaped." Hades said before Sean frowned.

"Unalaq wants to unleash Vaatu...Doesn't he?" Sean asked.

"Yes and use Harmonic convergence of this era to became a dark Avatar that brings nothing but chaos. This cannot be allowed." Helios said.

"I need to get back to Korra." Sean said standing up but groaned.

"Your in no condition right now." Hera said helping him up.

"For the next couple days you'll rest until you are fully healed. The Convergence is not for another few weeks. You still have plenty of time." Zeus said.

"Fine." Sean said as Hera took him to his room.
