Chapter 27 A new Spiritual age
Sean, Korra and Jinora stood in the Spirit world.
"Wow." Korra said amazed.
"I remember my first time here when Athena put me in that drug induced coma. It feels good to be back." Sean said touching a flower before it turned into a spirit making him chuckle.
"The spirits are so much more beautiful in their own world than they are at home." Jinora said following it.
"Hey." Sean said following her.
"Hold on." Korra said as they chased her.
Only for Korra to step into a hole.
"Hey watch where you're goin', you giant clod." A spirit annoyed.
"Whoops sorry." Korra said.
"This is a residential area in case you hadn't noticed. Who do you think you are stomping through here like that?"
"I'm the Avatar." Korra said crossing her arms grinning before another came out.
"The Avatar." He sniffed her which made her uncomfortable. "Not impressed."
"Oh fuck off." Sean said getting annoyed.
"We're trying to find the spirit portals? I opened one..." Korra tried to say before another came out the ground.
"I heard Unalaq did that."
"No he tricked Korra into doing that." Sean said as another came out.
"Well, if you opened it, how come don't know where it is, huh?"
"That was at the South pole in our world." Korra said getting annoyed before more shwoed up.
"I don't trust her!"
"Get out of our world!"
"We don't need you."
"You don't belong here!"
"Get away from me!" Korra yelled trying to bend but to her shock nothing happened.
"Oh shit." Sean said realizing because they didn't come through the portals their abilities didn't work.
"Did you guys see that? She tried to bend at us."
"KNOCK IT OFF!" Sean yelled.
"Wait a minute I know who this guy is. He's the Demon of Sparta."
Only for Sean to grab him by the neck and started strangling him.
"Do NOT call me that." Sean said pissed off.
"Why not you basically killed your own family." Sean growled in rage about to snap his neck when the others attacked them.
"GET OFF!" Korra yelled before Jinora saw this.
"Guys calm down. Your energies are making it worse." Jinora said rushing to them before they started swirling.
"OH SHIT!" Sean yelled as they went underground before appearing in water before swimming to each other.
Only for Korra to scream seeing a large monster coming at them before swallowing them.
The three surfaced in a river.
"I fucking hate this place now!" Sean yelled before they got separated.
"Sean! Jinora!" Korra yelled before she fell making her scream before she gently laid on her back before sitting up. "Sean? Jinora?" Korra asked seeing dark spirits making her widen her eyes before running away. "Sean?" Korra called out but came face to face with another dark spirit and ran off.
"Sean!" Korra yelled out before sobbing was heard from a child before it was revealed Korra reverted to the age when she and Sean first met. "Sean." Korra sobbed.
Sean growled as he tore through a forest looking for Korra and Jinora.
"KORRA! JINORA!" Sean yelled but got nothing making him growl before he came face to face with people from his past.
"Demon of Sparta!"
"STOP CALLING ME THAT!" Sean yelled slashing them but they just regenerated.
"You are nothing but a cold blooded killer like Ares wanted."
"DO YOU REMEMBER THAT DAY SPARTAN!"
"I KNOW WHO YOU ARE! I WOULD RATHER DIE THAN BE SAVED BY YOU!"
"MURDERER!"
"CHILD KILLER!"
"SLAVE OF ARES!"
"AHHHHH!" Sean roared in rage slashing through everyone from his past.
Jinora was the only one who was in a good place.
"Guys! Where are you?" Jinora called out but got nothing. "Hello? I'm lost." Jinora said before a creature cooed making her look seeing one of the spirits she met before the three arrived. "Furry-Foot." Jinora said rushing to him seeing he was even bigger. "You're so big here." Jinora said. "I don't suppose you know where Sean and Korra are, do you?" Jinora asked "We were supposed to go find the spirit portals but I don't know how to find anything down here." Jinora said before he picked her up and carried her somewhere.
Thats when they came to some large palace
"Wait...I know this place. Grandpa Aang came here. It's wan Shi Tong's spirit library." Jinora realized.
Meanwhile
Korra continued to cry as she laid next to a tree before hearing a hawk screech making her widen her eyes before swatting something away.
"GET AWAY!" Korra cried out before she opened her eyes seeing it was a small harmless spirit who she now injured before approaching it. "I'm sorry. You scared me." Korra apologized before they heard giggling as someone approached them.
"You remind me of my daughter when she was scared of small things."
"Wait...I know you." Korra said making her smile.
"Of course you do. It would be kinda rude not to know your mother-in-law."
"Lysandra." Korra said looking at Sean's mother who smiled at her.
"Hello Korra." Lysandra said helping her up before leading her out of the forest.
"How are you here?" Korra asked making her smile.
"People who now live in Elysium which is for pure souls can travel to here from time to time." Lysandra said before the light was seen. "And maybe some company from someone wise can help you." Lysandra said before they saw several spirits celebrating with someone from Avatar Aang's past.
"Iroh?" Korra asked seeing The famous Dragon of the West.
"Korra. You've come just in time for a tea party." Iroh said as the two sat down. "Help yourself to some spirit cakes. They won't make you gain any weight. Of course, you won't lose any, either." Iroh said patting his large stomach. (I found this funny since he went through constant hours of training in jail to shape up and he went right back to his large self)
"This part of the spirit world isn't so scary." Korra said.
"It didn't use to be like this until Unalaq showed up." Lysandra said making her look down. "Whats wrong?"
"It's my fault he's here." Korra said depressed.
"No. This happened long before you opened the portal. He's been planning this for years." Lysandra said before grabbing a tea pot but Korra recognized it.
"Hey thats mine!" Korra said making Iroh chuckle.
"That's right. It was yours long, long ago. When you were Avatar Wan, you used it to carry the light spirit Raava around until the two of you became one. It's my favorite thing I've found here. You know, when you make tea in it, you can still taste a little light in every drop." Iroh said pouring her some tea as she drank it and smiled.
Meanwhile
Sean panted in exhaustion after countless attempts to rid himself of the people of his past nothing worked.
"The blood of thousands are on your hands!
"YOU WERE GIVEN EVERYTHING!"
"DIE SPARTAN!"
"MONSTER!"
Sean couldn't take it anymore and collapsed to his knees ready to break.
"Big brother?"
Sean widened his eyes before looking up seeing his little sister Calliope.
"Calliope?" Sean asked as she smiled at him before he broke down crying. "I am so sorry." Sean cried in regret of his actions that led to her death.
He was surprised when she pulled him into a hug.
"Its ok. We still love you." Calliope said as he cried holding her.
Meanwhile
Jinora and her spirit friend flew into the library Wan Shi Tong's library before they landed.
"Wow. I could just stay in here forever, reading." Jinora said.
Thats when Wong Shi Tong arrived and landed in front of her.
"The last human who said that is still here." Tong said looking at the dead corpse of a man who clearly died decades ago. (Really? He's in the same spot as we last saw him?)
"Professor Zei." Jinora said.
"I see that you have some knowledge of the past, so you should know that humans are no longer allowed in my library." Tong said.
"Not even ones who have gods for friends?" Jinora asked trying to tempt him.
"Hmm? And what gods are you referring to?" Tong asked curious.
"Greek, Norse and Egyptian. And I know Zeus created my home lands using the Titan Magic after the Great War." Jinora said.
"Do you now? I'm curious as to how you know this and how your friends with Gods." Tong said.
"Sean told me since he's Zeus's son." Jinora said making his eyes widen.
"YOUR FRIENDS WITH THE DEMON OF SPARTA!" Tong asked.
"Don't call him that!" Jinora said.
"HMPH! Fine. Personally I think that thing is better off dead. Look around if you wish but keep that thing out of my library." Tong said flying away. (Just for the record I knew right away Tong was allied with Unalaq since it only made perfect sense)
"What a jerk. No wonder Gran-Gran spoke so low about him." Jinora said annoyed.
Meanwhile
"They say that the game of Pai Sho was invented by spirits, Although some of them don't seem to grasp it very well." Iroh said playing with one who looked like a flower.
"Just hold on. I'm thinking."
"You said that an hour ago." Lysandra said making Korra giggle before frowning. "Something wrong?" Lysandra asked.
"Why did you seal Sean's memories about Deimos?" Korra asked making her frown before sighing as she held her close.
"Korra...Some parents make horrible choices when it comes to protecting their kids. When Deimos was taken by Ares Sean would go out every night looking for him and come back a complete mess. I knew he would end up hurting himself or worse if I didn't do something. So I asked the Oracle of Sparta to block his memories of his brother." Lysandra said in regret.
"But he became angry and violent." Korra said.
"I know. When I learned Deimos was alive the damage had already been done. The son I knew who was always kind and caring to everyone became angry, Violent and resentful towards everyone in the family save his sister. His protective instincts for her is what kept him in check." Lysandra said.
"Korra, Even the best of parents can make horrible choices when it comes to loss and fear. For example Sean's friend Baldur's mother was once very kind and caring to all but then she became fearful of her son's death and gave him the curse you were told about. While she did it for the right reasons her fear made her think it was a gift no matter how much he begged for it to be taken away. When Sean broke the curse she snapped and became what you first witnessed a year ago." Iroh said making her look down not even considering that.
"My son did a lot of horrible things because of what I did. Those sins are mine because I let my fear of losing another son make me do something I have regretted every singly day of my life until my death by his hands. Despite what happened I was proud of him when he abandoned Ares and went on to make amends for all his horrible deeds." Lysandra said.
"But your the one who made him walk down that path." Korra said making her nod.
"I know. And not a day went by that I wished I could take it all back during those days. Everything he's always regretted for 300 years was my fault. But even the worst of humanity deserves a second chance. Let me show you something." Lysandra said leading her to a pond before it started showing memories of when Korra and Sean first met.
"Thats when we first me." Korra said making her smile.
"Yes. For 14 years you have given him the best years of his life. He protected you with all his being. You grew to love him over the years and accepted him for what he did. Helped him heal the wounds of his past. You made him back to his old self. The son I knew." Lysandra said making her smile before Korra suddenly turned back to her current age.
"If you could change what you did even if it meant we might not ever meet...Would you?" Korra asked.
"No. Cause some people are destined to be together." Lysandra said making her smile before seeing her marriage and a small tear ran down her eyes.
"Love can heal even the most broken of souls Korra. And you have done that for him for 14 years." Iroh said making Korra smile before getting serious.
"I need to find him." Korra said.
"The best place you can look is up there at the dragon-bird nest at the top of Hai Riyo Peak." Iroh said pointing to the way before handing her the dragon-bird she injured. "Take him as well so he may find his friends as well." Iroh said making her smile holding him close before running off.
Meanwhile
Sean and his sister Calliope sat on a fallen tree talking.
"I am so sorry for happened all those centuries ago." Sean said with his head down.
"It wasn't your fault. I know you would never hurt us." Calliope said.
"How can you forgive me so easily for what I did?" Sean asked not understanding.
"Because your my big brother. What other reason do I need?" Calliope asked making him smile lightly before holding her close.
"Not a day goes by where I don't miss you and mom. Every day." Sean said.
"I know. We miss you too. But you have someone else now." Calliope said.
"Korra." Sean said making her nod.
"You deserve each other. She's good to you." Calliope said making him smile.
"You two would have gotten along instantly if you ever actually met." Sean said making her laugh before he stood up. "Speaking of whom I need to find her." Sean said.
"Bye." Calliope said before vanishing.
"Goodbye Calliope." Sean said before running off to find his wife and Jinora.
Meanwhile
Jinora was looking fro a map to the spirit portals.
"Ugh! It's not here either." Jinora said frustrated.
Thats when one of the spirit dogs grabbed one book and brought it to her.
"Thank you." Jinora said opening it and began to read it. "The Tree of time. Thats where Avatar Wan imprisoned Vaatu. The Elders believed as long as the portals are closed during the harmonic convergence, Vaatu will remain imprisoned and the battle between good and evil will not be fought again. But if both portals are opened, Spirit energy is amplified greatly. During the harmonic convergence, this energy will be great enough to allow Vaatu to break free from his bonds, and the material world will again risk being consumed by darkness." Jinora read. "We have to warn Sean and Korra." Jinora said.
"Leaving so soon?" Unalaq said shocking her. "When Wan Shi Tong told me he had a visitor, I had to see it with my own eyes. I can't believe Tenzin sent his daughter here instead of coming himself. What kind of a father is he?" Unalaq mocked.
"Better than you. Wan Shi Tong, how can you be helping him?" Jinora asked.
"Unalaq has proven to be a true friend to the spirits, unlike the Avatar who married the Demon of Sparta. Can't imagine anyone falling in love with that thing." Tong said disgusted. (I really hope if theres a third series of this his whole library burns!)
"Why would you wanna help Vaatu escape? He'll destroy everything." Jinora said.
"Oh like how Kruger nearly destroyed his whole country when he served Ares? I'm doing the world a favor." Unalaq said as Jinora's spirit friend became a dark spirit shocking her.
Meanwhile
Korra made her way up the mountain to bring her spirit friend to his nest.
As she climbed she suddenly lost her balance.
"WHOA!" Korra yelled before someone caught her.
"Careful now." Sean said making her smile.
"Sean." Korra said before kissing him as he held her. "By the way...Your mom says she's proud of you." Korra said making him smile.
"So I wasn't the only one who met a my family here. I had a nice chat with Calliope." Sean said holding her close as she smiled.
"Come on. The sooner we get this done. The sooner we can close the portal and find Jinora." Korra said as Sean jumped up the mountain before reaching the top.
When Korra put the dragon-bird hatchling in the nest they all merged and became one larger Dragon-Bird making them smile before it lowered its head down before they got on.
"Lets go." Sean said as they flew off.
Soon they arrived at the harmonic site before they landed by the portal Korra opened.
"How unexpected." Vaatu said as they appeared before him. "When Unalaq told me about this Demon...I had not expected it to be you Achilles Kruger." Vaatu said.
"How do you know of the name my father picked out for me? Thats not the name I was given." Sean said.
"No? The only logical answer is Ares has interfered with the timeline. I can't say it's unexpected. Your destiny interferes with everything he represents. Still clearly his efforts to change the timeline to his benefit has been for nothing. Your destiny remains the same as it was." Vaatu said.
"Whatever. Your not gonna destroy the world. When Harmonic convergence is over you can spend eternity in Hel." Korra said making him laugh.
"I see. You intend to send me to the realm of the dead so I cannot conquer Earth. A brilliant idea I must admit...But one small problem in it." Vaatu said.
"And that would be?" Sean asked before Jinora screamed making them turn and saw Unalaq with Jinora using some dark Water bending arts making him growl.
"You cowardly mother...!" Sean tried to say.
"I can't believe I ever trusted you. You claim Sean's a demon but your the one who wants to destroy the whole world. Your nothing but a hypocrite!" Korra yelled.
"Heres the difference between me and him. I'm doing a world a favor. Destroying the world to make way for a new one. One with spiritual enlightenment. And people like both of you will not exist. Especially you...Demon of Sparta." Unalaq said pissing Sean off.
"Don't underestimate him Unalaq. Ares may have altered his history but the outcome will remain the same if you underestimate him." Vaatu said.
"What are you talking about?" Unalaq asked.
"I'm afraid I can't say. Raava and I are forbidden by ancient magic from speaking of those with destinies like his." Vaatu said.
"It doesn't matter I suppose. Now, Korra will open the other portal...Or Jinora's soul will be destroyed." Unalaq said making her glare before looking down.
"Ok..." Korra said defeated as Sean held her.
"I am going to kill you for this." Sean said.
"Just like you killed your own family?" Unalaq mocked making him glare.
Korra walked to the portal before she opened it up.
"Let her go." Sean said glaring at him.
"No." Unalaq said before attacking them with water bending. "You should have come through the portal!" Unalaq yelled as Jinora was carried away.
"JINORA!" Korra yelled before Sean took a hit for her making him groan in pain before Unalaq tried to destroy his soul.
Only for the Dragon-Bird to attack him forcing him back before they escaped.
"I'll see you soon, Raava. And not even he of all people will save you from me." Vaatu said.
Sean and Korra gasped as they were back in their physical bodies.
"Whoa what happened?" Turok asked rushing to his brother.
"FUCK!" Sean yelled rushing to Jinora trying to wake her up.
"What happened?" Tenzin asked concerned.
"Unalaq was waiting for us. He took Jinora's soul somewhere. We'll get her back. We had to open the other portal to save her." Sean said as Tenzin looked terrified.
"Her soul can't stay out of her body for long. The longer it does..." Tenzin tried to say before Turok cut his palm.
"Whoa Turok wait a minute!" Sean said.
"Move!" Turok said pushing him aside before drawing a seal on her forehead in his blood before it glowed.
"This will keep her physical body alive until we can return her soul to her body." Turok said making Tenzin sigh in relief.
"Tenzin that power comes with a price." Sean said.
"What are you talking about?" Tenzin asked.
"The seal draws the caster's life energy to keep that person alive. If we don't find Jinora's soul before his life energy runs out...He'll die instead." Sean said shocking him.
"Why would he do that?" Tenzin asked.
"Because he cares about her the same way I do for Korra. Some bonds are so strong...Your willing to put your life on the line for them." Sean said as Turok picked Jinora up.
"We're gonna get her back before that happens...I promise." Korra said to her husband who nods.
Meanwhile
"Now that both portals are open the Gods will not let this stand. They'll send their armies to stop us." Unalaq said.
"In which case you will need a bigger one to combat that." Vaatu said before summoning a scroll for him.
"What is this?" Unalaq asked.
"A once in a lifetime deal. This scroll will grant you an army of the dead fully revived. However you must pick this army wisely for it only works once." Vaatu said making him grin.
"I know the perfect army to combat them. The entire Persian empire Kruger killed over 200 years ago." Unalaq said. "And a few others he's recently killed." Unalaq said grinning.
