Rated K Family and Friends. Hurt/Comfort.

Fargo woke up and stretched comfortably as the golden sun peeked through his bedroom window shades. It was a crisp summer morning in the northwest and the sky was filled with bright blue sky and orangey pink fluffy clouds. He let out a yawn as he got out of bed. Fargo took a hot shower and got dressed in a long sleeved cotton white t-shirt, denim blue jeans, and black converse. He headed down stairs all freshened up and decided to have breakfast at Café Diem. As he stepped out if his house, he thought to himself how beautiful the day was. He then took a deep breath through his nose and sighed with a smile. Once he arrived at Cafè Diem he pulled into a spot out front and walked inside with a soft grin. He ordered a hot cup of black coffee, half an orange, and a peice of buttered toast finding a cozy spot by the window where the sun shown through warming him up nicely. Fargo went over some schematics on his tablet for a new fusion collider on that warm and calm morning. As he finished his breakfast Fargo looked at the time and decided to head to work. He got in his car and headed straight for G.D.. Allison and Nathan dropped by the sheriffs office to talk about a piece of technology that went haywire in the antimatter acceleration lab. Allison and Nathan got back in the black Cadillac S.U.V as Jack and Jo got in the jeep, all headed for Global. Fargo drove past endless sun-lit evergreen trees when he saw something strange ahead. It was a strange purpleish ring of what looked like a wave of energy eminating from G.D.. His eyes widened as he saw what it did to the trees that were blown back harshly. He didn't have time to find cover when the wave hit him and the car. Time slowed down as the car flipped up and over twice, landing upside down on the road. "Nathan what is that?", asked Allison from the passenger seat looking ahead at the wave coming towards them. Nathan jerked the car around and parked quickly behind a small gray cement structure on the right side of the road. Jack and Jo saw the strange wave and Jack for once thought it best to follow Nathans actions. They all felt it as it passed violently. They simotaneously got out of their cars and watched the wave go through the trees behind them. "I knew it! I knew something was going to happen, today was going way to well!", said Jack annoyed. "What...was that?", asked Jo to the group. "I don't know. We're lucky this thing was here though or we would all be in that ditch over there.", said Nathan. "We'd better get to G.D. and find out what caused that pulse.", said Allison. "Let's go Carter. We'll all head to Global and get some answers.", said Jo. They all headed towards G.D. in a hurry to find out what had caused the wave. As they drove down the road, Nathans heart dropped when he saw a familiar car flipped over in the distance. He looked at Allison as she conveyed as much concern as he felt. Jack and Jo did the same as they all sped up to get to the crash. There was a light blue car, upside down, windsheild and windows mostly smashed, dented peices scattered about. Allison gasped when they got closer and she saw who's car it was. "That's Fargos car.", said Nathan as he pulled over. Jacks jeep pulled up next to them as everyone got out quickly. Jo got on the radio requesting an ambulance right away and reporting the crash. They all approached slowly, afraid to see the worst. Jack got to the drivers window first and was shocked speechless. Fargo was in the drivers seat hanging upside down still buckled in. His face and neck were bloodied from shards of glass. His hair and arms hung down and his glasses laid on the windshield. His white shirt was soaked in red. Nathan came up behind Allison secretly afraid of what he was about to see. They went around to the drivers window that was shattered. Allison leaned in to check his pulse. "Is he?", Jo said tears in her eyes with fear. "He's alive.", Allison said as her shoulders dropped with relief. Nathan and the others relaxed a little, happy they still had a chance. "Ok Carter, I need you to un-buckle Fargos seat belt and I'm going to catch him. I'll make sure his head doesnt hit the ground and try to get him out on the pavement.", Nathan said calmly. "Ok on three", said Jack as he opened the drivers door. "1,2,3", counted Jack. Nathan caught Fargo and carefully pulled him out over the blood stained shards of broken glass. He laid Fargos head in his lap. The sight of Fargo was to much for any of them to comprehend. They could hear sirens in the distance and prayed for them to hurry. Fargo stirred a little and the others didn't take their eyes off of him. Nathan put a hand on Fargos head to ensure he didn't move. Fargo half opened his eyes. He let out a soft and sorrowful moan with pain, confusion and fear. "It's okay Fargo. Stay calm. Were here. Were here.", Nathan said softly as he sort of petted his head for comfort. He looked down at Fargo. His dark hair stood up haphazardly, his face was pale and somewhat dirty and was covered with scrapes and glass. Parts of his body were bent in unnatural ways and his face showed pain and fear. It was so unnatural seeing him like that. Nathan was uncharacteristically choked up at the sight of him and how he had to be suffering. Jack stood with disbelief trying to think of what to do next. Allison knelt down next to Nathan and Fargo. She used her jacket to put pressure on Fargos bleeding head wound as she desperately tried to overcome the terrifying situation. Jo watched the road waiting for the ambulance as she attempted to keep from panicking. Old swing music was playing quietly from Fargos somehow still working car radio. They had hardly noticed. Finally the ambulance arrived and medics jumped out as sirens still blared. Nathan instinctively covered Fargos ears. He thought if he had a head injury it would be painful to hear. He also figured it wouldnt help how scared Fargo must be. "What happened?", asked a paramedic. "There was some kind of pulse that came from G.D.. It must've flipped the car.", Nathan stopped there figuring they got the point. They quickly assesed Fargo while his head stayed in Starks lap with a high tech injury scanner. "Ok he's got a head wound thats losing a lot of blood, multiple abrasions from broken glass, a deep gash on his calf about 4 inches long, another gash on his upper chest on the left, 4 broken ribs, his left leg is broken in 3 places, he's got a fractured right wrist and he's lost a lot of blood. Let's get him to G.D..", said the paramedic as two of them lifted Fargo on the stretcher with Nathan and Jacks help. They then snapped back to reality when they realized they had to get to G.D.. Jack ran over to the car and grabbed Fargos glasses. They all got in the cars they arrived in and followed the ambulance. Allisons hands were shaking as she still held the jacket she used to stop the bleeding on Fargos forehead. Nathan wrapped one arm around her shoulder and she leaned in for comfort. They may not be together but they still had a special bond. Jack put a friendly hand on Jo's shoulder as she wiped her cheeks in the passenger seat. They pulled up in front of G.D. and all hopped out. Jack ran up to the entrance as he held open the door. Everyone quickly got to the elevator on their way up to the infirmary. Finally they arrived as nurses and doctors took the stretcher. They surrounded Fargo blocking their view. They were partly happy for that because of how scary he looked. They took him into surgery right away as they all sat waiting anxiously. "Well as long as were waiting, let's find out what that strange wave was. I'm sure someones looking for us so they can explain.", said Nathan feeling exhausted. "Yeah I've got 4 missed calls from a Dr. Connors. Let's head to his location.", said Allison. "He'd better have a heck of an explanation.", said Jack angrily. "Oh he'd better. I'm itching to arrest someone and this guy's at the top of my list.", Jo said in her usual determined way. They all walked to the stairs that led to the roof. There stood a frantic Dr. Connors holding and ice pack to his head while working on a large peice of technology that looked kind of like a weird triangle satellite. "Dr. Conners! You better have a good reason for this or so help me!", yelled Jack as he walked swiftly up to the man. "Carter.", Allison put a hand on his shoulder that told him to calm down. "I..I've been trying to reach you all. My anti-graviton shield here was supposed to admit a low range wave that would get rid of any residual types of negative radiation. But when I activated it...it emitted a more powerful and erratic pulse than I anticipated. It blew me against this large vent hence the ice pack. It's turned off now so don't worry I'm just trying to figure out why my calculations were incorrect. Was anything damaged? Was anyone hurt?", said the scientist. They all looked at each other. "Yes. You might know Douglas Fargo. The vehicle he was in was flipped over by the pulse. The wave dissipated when it got farther away from G.D. so otherwise there was minimal damage. Just some screwed up labs and a few minor injuries.", said Stark. "Well is he alright?", asked the doctor flustered. "You better hope so.", said Jo still upset. "Just make sure the device is shut down and I'll be back sometime this week to discuss this incident further. Goodbye Dr. Connors.", said Allison as the group walked down the stairs from which they came. They all went to the surgery observation room. Walking in they were reluctant to look at Fargo below. None of them wanted to see him like that anymore. It was unnerving to say the least. There was now an oxygen mask over his mouth, and he was pale. They watched with anxiousness and worry as the surgeon went from his head to his leg to his wrist and finishing with a few more things that needed mending like removing small shards of glass. When Fargo was moved back out to the main infirmary everyone went down there as well. Nathan saw the main surgeon and went over to him as Allison, Jack, and Jo followed. "Excuse me Dr. Soren. What is his status?", asked Nathan seriously. "Oh hello Mr. Stark. Yes, Mr. Douglas Fargo. Not very good I'm afraid. His condition is serious but stable. He suffered a lot of blood loss and many serious wounds. He sustained a severe head wound, a deep gash on his chest and calf, he also broke his leg in several places as well as four ribs and a fractured wrist. And obviously the shattered glass caused multiple cuts and scrapes, none to deep though. We just finished the surgery on his head wound, his leg, his wrist and his ribs. He's on blood transfusions and pain killers as well as sedatives. One of my nurses will do the stitches on his chest and calf now.", said the doctor. "I'll do it if you don't mind Dr. Soren.", said Allison piping in. "Of course. Excuse me Dr. Stark, Ms. Blake.", said the doctor as he walked away. Allison got the necessary supplies as she began to clean the area. Nathan sat next to her to assist. "Someone should get him some clothes.", said Nathan to Allison. Fargo was wearing only boxer shorts because of the multiple places that needed mending. "You should probably change as well Nathan.", said Allison kindly. Nathan looked down. He hadn't even noticed his white dress shirt and lap were stained with Fargos blood. "Oh...right.", he replied. "How are you holding up Allie?", asked Nathan as Allison stitched up the gash. She shrugged. "I just can't believe this happened. It's so hard seeing him like this. At the crash it was so hard to look at him. I've never felt so out of control you know.", said Allison looking at Fargo. "And how are you?.", asked Allison sweetly as she moved to the wound on his chest. "Better than Fargo.", he replied with a soft smile. Jack returned from a call with Henry as Jo and him pulled up a couple chairs next to Fargo across from Nathan and Allison. They finished the stitches and Allison grabbed a clean white shirt and pants from a nearby shelf. Jo helped her put them on as they avoided wires, tubes, and injuries. His torso was tightly bound in white cloth and there was a bandage on the upper left of his chest. There was also a bandage above his right eyebrow and his lower right calf. His whole left leg from top to bottom was thickly wrapped as well as his right wrist. "His color is coming back a little.", said Jo as they all looked at Fargo. "He looks miserable.", Jack chuckled. They all laughed a little, wondering why that was funny. There were tubes in his nose and his head sunk deep into his pillow. His dark black hair was all ruffled up standing out against the pure white pillow and his mouth was slightly open. Fargos left hand rested on his torso and his leg was slightly elevated. He looked at least a little better then he had at the crash sight though. His wounds were cleaned and bandaged. They were all a lot less worried now that he was in the infirmary and stable, all taken care of by the best doctors probably in the world. Thirty minutes passed as none of them could think of much to say or do. Henry walked in bringing five cups of vinspresso. He held back a gasp when he saw Fargo and just kind of held his mouth open as he stopped at the head of the bed. He ran a hand down his face as he to pulled up a chair. "Hey guys. How's he doin'?", said Henry still looking at Fargo shocked. "Well he's stable but not exactly out of the woods obviously. He shouldnt even be alive.", said Nathan. "Yeah but he is. And it looks like he's gonna stay that way.", added Allison with a sweet smile. "That's good to hear. When do you think he'll wake up?", asked Henry. "I'd guess in a day or so. He looks pretty exhausted not to mention he's on sedatives and pain killers.", replied Allison. "Well in that case maybe everyone should get some rest.", said Henry quietly. As everyone left Nathan couldn't get himself to leave. He just sat in the chair making sure nothing happened. Nathan stayed through the night not falling asleep once. He looked at his tablet most of the time, going over emails and project updates. Every couple minutes he looked up at Fargo too see him in the same position. Sleeping deeply, head sunk into the pillow and his chest rising and falling. Eventually the morning came. Nathan thought before the others came to G.D. he would sneak home for a few winks of sleep. Later that day they all got things done, constantly worrying about Fargo. He was yet to wake up and they were all deeply concerned. At around 6:00pm, G.D. was nearly empty except for a few scientists and a meeting in the conference room. Jack, Henry, Allison, Nathan, and Jo were having a meeting addressing the problem with the device in the antimatter acceleration lab. "Dr. Kessler and his team were finally able to shut the device off. That lab will start reconstruction tommorow. Most of the equipment was melted by the particle rays.", said Henry. "It will be loaded onto a secure transport vehicle in about an hour.", said Nathan. They all nodded indicating the wrap up of the meeting. Instead of getting up they all stayed seated. "I haven't gotten away to see Fargo today. Does anyone know how he's doing?", asked Allison. They shook their heads. "I think I'm being selfish.", said Jo. "What do you mean?", replied Henry. "I just...didn't want to have to see him. I didn't know if I could bear it again.", said Jo. "I felt the same way to tell you the truth. I mean I've spent time in medicine and certainly seen things like that before but...I don't know. I think that was hard for all of us to experience.", said Allison solemnly. "Let's all go together then?", said Jack. Everyone nodded. When they arrived in sickbay they were shocked to see Fargo awake looking up at the ceiling. "Fargo!?", said Jack surprised. "You're...awake!", said Henry happily surprised as well. Fargo didn't move but looked over with just his eyes. He smiled a little and nodded best he could. As they started to walk towards him the doctor stepped in front of them. "Excuse me. I want to let you all know that he's incredibky weak right now. His body is extremely exhausted and in a lot of pain. Just...take it easy. And keep it short please.", the head doctor said in a whisper. They walked over slowly and quietly. Fargos eyes were half open and were red and watery. "Hey.", Jo said putting a hand on his arm. "What happened?", said Fargo hourse and quiet as he looked at her tired. "There was a pulse that came from Dr. Connors anti-graviton sheild. It was strong enough to flip your car over probably a couple times.", said Nathan. "We found you shortly after and you're going to be fine.", said Jack trying his best to be comforting. Fargo just responded with a nod and a smile. They looked at each other with worry and sympathy. "Get some rest. We'll be right here.", said Allison soothingly as she kissed him on the forehead. Fargo closed his eyes and the others left. All except Nathan once again. Nathan was surprised to find himself a little choked up. He stayed through the night making sure if Fargo woke up again that he would be there to console him. Over the next week Fargo was in the same condition. His body was still very weak and healing slowly. One night his friends all gathered in chairs by his bedside. An hour went by as they talked quietly. Fargo woke up to his friends talking and the wirring and beeping of monitors. Jack and Nathan were arguing over something in hushed tones as Jo and Henry played rummy. Fargo chuckled at that and they looked over at him with confusion. "Fargo?", said Allison smirking a little. "How are you?", asked Henry with sympathy. "I'm okay.", Fargo said still smiling as he looked up. He looked pretty much the same as he had a week ago. There were tubes in his nostrils, i.v's, bandages everywhere, there wasn't an inch on his body without a scrape or a bruise, he was pale and looked more exhausted than one thought possible. "The stars are so beautiful. Its a clear night.", he said. The others looked up towards the window in the ceiling. "Yeah. They are.", Allison said with a smile. "I think tommorows going to be another beautiful morning.", he said quietly and weakly. Fargo let his eyelids fall once again as his friends watched him drift off to sleep. "He's gonna be just fine.", said Jack to the others. A couple days passed as the recovery started to take place. Nathan walked into an almost empty infirmary except for Fargo and a few nurses. It was late but Fargo was awake. "The leviton field generator test was today. It went well, general Mansfield was impressed.", said Nathan. "I'm sorry I missed it. I'll get the next one though.", Fargo replied in a hourse and quiet voice. Fargo was looking somewhat better and a lot less weak. That gave Nathan some relief. He sat quietly next to the bed as he looked at a tablet. A nurse walked over to check his blood pressure and temperature. "When do you think I'll be able to leave?", asked Fargo towards the nurse. She gave him a sweet smile. "You wanna go? We've gotten so used to having you here.", she said sweetly. Fargo chuckled. "You should be able to go home in a week or so. Or we could send you home in a wheelchair with an i.v. if you promise to stay in bed and if you have someone to help you out.", she continued. "I don't think that will be a problem. Allison and I and the others would be glad to help in any way.", said Nathan. Normally Fargo would be a little embarrassed that he needed help but right now he just felt grateful. He was relieved to be able to go home and excited to sleep in his own bed again. "That sounds great, thank you.", said Fargo sincerely to the nurse. "Ok well if your going home tonight then you better get some rest so you can build up some strength.", she said kindly. He greedily closed his eyes happy to be able to go back to sleep. He woke up to the nurse saying his name. "Sheriff Carter is on his way to help you home. Do you think you can sit up?", said the nurse. Fargo nodded as his shaking arms pushed him up into a sitting position. The nurse gave him a big smile. "Good! Now lets swing your legs over the side of the bed.", she said as Jack walked in. Fargo did so slowly. "Hi sheriff.", Fargo said with a smile as he focused most of his energy on moving his legs over the side of the bed. "Hey Fargo! Glad to see you going home.", Jack said with a smile. "You and me both.", Fargo said tired but happy. "Ok let's get in the chair now. It will probably hurt quite a bit so we'll do it quickly.", said the nurse. Fargo nodded to show he understood. The kind nurse grabbed his right arm as he used his shaky left hand to grab the edge of the bed. She lifted as he pushed off with a painful expression. He reached the chair and sighed with relief. "Oh I brought your glasses.", Jack said handing them to Fargo. "Oh great, thanks. Where did you find them?", asked Fargo as he put them on. "Uh...at the uh crash.", Jack said a little afraid to talk about it. Before leaving the infirmary Jack pulled the nurse aside. "Are you sure he's, you know, okay. I mean is he gonna be okay at home?", he asked a little worried. "Well me or another nurse will be by once a day to check his vitals and injuries. I wish we didn't have to use the wheelchair since it tends to hurt ones dignity a little. But even if he had the stength to walk, both his legs have different injuries that are far from healing. Also, I want to make sure someone besides us will be checking on him as well.", the nurse replied. "I will stop by personally once a day with deputy Lupo. And I'm sure he has a couple of people that would like to make sure he's ok and help take care of him.", he said quietly. The nurse nodded with a smile as they walked back towards Fargo who was nodding off. "Come on Fargo let's get you to your own bed. Then I can get home to the game and a cold beer.", Jack said as he wheeled Fargo through the hallway. Fargo chuckled at that and tried hard to keep his eyes open. Jack went on about the NBL game from the previous week as they headed for the front doors of G.D. though Fargo was to tired to listen. He figured he should be listening but sleep was pulling him in. He also figured people were staring but he didn't really care. The people of Global Dynamics have seen a lot and have been through a lot so he figured it probably wasn't that big of a deal to them. Fargo opened his eyes when he felt the warm summer night air on his bare arms. They approached Jacks car when him and the nurse helped Fargo into the passenger seat. Fargo hadn't even noticed that the nurse had walked along side them pushing his i.v.. Fargo was unsuccessful at holding back a painful grunt. Both Jack and the nurse muttered a guilty apology. "It's not your fault.", Fargo said feeling bad that they felt guilty when they were just trying to help. Luckily the stand that held the i.v. was collapsable so they could fit it in the front seat. Fargo tried to stay awake during the car ride home by talking to Jack but it was just so hard. His whole body felt so weak all the time and he felt so exhausted. He was relieved to see his house come into view and was proud of himself for not nodding off once during the drive. They pulled into the driveway and Jack got out going around to the passenger door. "You do have your key right?", said Jack as he helped Fargo into the wheelchair, which was difficult because of the tubes that led to his nostrils and the i.v. that led to his arm. "Actually theres a pin pad on the wall next to the door. The code is 3-18-51.", said Fargo as they approached the front door. "Why? Is that the number of times you watched Star Trek Next Generation or something?", Jack said with a chuckle as he punched it in. "No actually it's my mothers birthday.", he replied as they went inside. "So how are we going to get upstairs?", asked Jack. Fargo laughed tiredly. "I have no idea.", he replied. "Oh wait a second.", Fargo said as he slowly typed something into the screen on the left arm of the high tech wheel chair. "This has a hover system. Let's see if I can enable it, then I can just float up.", Fargo said happily. "I'm not even shocked anymore. Floating wheel chairs. Whats next?", said Jack humorously. Fargo chuckled weakly. "And...there we go. Do you mind following me with that?", asked Fargo tiredly as he pointed to the stand. Jack nodded and they went up the stairs and to the bedroom with ease. Fargos shaky hand reached for the doornob and they went straight to the bed. Jack helped Fargo onto the bed slowly but not painlessly. Fargo put both his hands on the bed as he stopped and caught his breath. "You alright?", said Jack a little worried. "Just a little dizzy. Don't worry.", Fargo said as he slowly brought his legs up on the bed which was certainly not an easy task. Jack would've helped him but he didn't want to chance hurting Fargos pride at all. He figured he was probably a little embarrassed already from the help he needed, anyone would be. Jack started to walk towards the door when he turned around. "What are you gonna do if you have to...you know. Go to the bathroom or something?", asked Jack curious. "Huh. I hadn't thought of that. I guess I'll just figure something out.", Fargo replied with a soft smile. "Night Fargo.", Jack said to Fargo who had already shut his eyes. He smiled as he left the room. Secretly he was worried though. On the car ride home he wondered what Fargo would do if something was wrong or if he needed some water. Or what if he didn't have the strength to get in the wheelchair to go to the bathroom or something. Or what if his medication ran out and he was in a lot of pain. He thought of these things as he tried not to worry. He knew if there was anything he needed Fargo would call. He's a smart guy and is pretty good at figuring out how to accomplish something difficult. Jack's shoulders dropped a little with relief when he thought of that. As Fargo drifted off to sleep he was so happy to be in his warm bed. Even though he was in pain pretty much all over his body, he felt quite comfortable. More comfortable than he'd felt in a little while and he was greatful for it. Jack met Allison, Nathan, Henry, and Jo at Cafè Diem that night. "Well, Fargos sleeping happily in his own bed.", said Jack as he pulled up a chair. "I'm glad. It's good for him to be in his own home.", said Jo before taking a sip of hot tea. Jack talked to them earlier about who would be visiting and when. Nathan and Allison would go there in the morning to check on him and bring him some breakfast. Jack and Jo would stop by to bring him lunch later and Henry around dinner time. When morning came, Nathan and Allison punched in the code at Fargos front door which they'd gotten from Jack. They found their way up to the bedroom and knocked before opening the door. There Fargo layed in his bed under the smooth white sheets. The tubes in his nostrils, the i.v. in his arm, the multiple bandages and bindings, the bruises and scrapes, and the pale exhausted look on his face remained. His arms layed over the sheets and his ruffled up hair stuck to his forehead. Nathan walked over to Fargo with a concerned look as he put his hand to Fargos forehead. "He's burning up.", said Nathan looking at Allison worried. "Hmm. Well the nurse is coming in half an hour, let's stay with him until then and see if we can get him to eat something. His head wound is probably causing the fever. Or it could be an infection from one of his wounds or even just the toll his body has been through.", Allison said as she sat on the edge of the bed and checked his pulse, breathing, heart rate, and temperature. Nathan lightly shook Fargo as he said his name. "Fargo?", he said aloud. He began to stir and after a few seconds he cracked open his weary eyes. "Morning Fargo. Hungry?", asked Nathan. It took Fargo a minute to answer. His shaky arms tried to push himself up a little, (really just his left arm since his right wrist was still fractured). "Not really to be honest.", he replied. "Why is it so hot in here?", he asked his voice sounding hourse. "You have a fever. I'm not sure why yet but the nurse is coming by soon. Here try and eat. Vincent made hot potato soup.", Allison said as she smiled sweetly. Fargo was surprised she remembered it was his favorite. "Wow thanks.", he said happy that they brought the only food he could think of eating right now. They talked and laughed for a while about work and things happening around town as Fargo ate slowly. Fifteen minutes went by when Fargo fell asleep while Allison was telling a funny story about something that happened in the acidic biology lab with some explosive goo. "I'll try not to take that as an insult.", Allison said as her and Nathan chuckled. "He's just exhausted. How's his temperature?", asked Nathan. Allison put the back of her hand to Fargos forehead and looked at Nathan with furrowed brows. "It's risen a lot. The nurse should be here any minute though. Can you get a cold rag from the bathroom?", said Allison as she removed the sheets from on top of Fargo. Luckily the bathroom was right there and Nathan returned in a matter of seconds with a cold wet rag. Allison dabbed it on his forehead, neck, and chest. Even though his temperature was rising Fargo was shivering harshly. Allison and Nathan were both relieved to hear the front door open and shut. The nurse walked into the bedroom as Allison began to let her know of Fargos condition. "He's been burning up since we got here.", she said calmly. The nurse had a large medical case with her as she checked Fargos vitals and injuries. She looked towards them with a serious expression. "It's an infection. The gash on his chest isn't healing as quickly as it should and it allowed an infection to arise.", said the nurse as she began to replace the bandages. "With the overwhelming toll taken on his body it's going to take a little longer than normal for him to combat the infection. He'll need to be monitored until the infection heals. I'll start him on antibiotics now. Let's just hope we don't have to get him back to G.D..", she continued. Half an hour passed and he only got worse. They tried using a high tech cooling blanket and more cold rags, but this infection was persistent. "What else can we do?", said Allison worried. "What about a cold bath?", suggested Nathan. "That could work. We have to be careful of his injuries when taking him though and he will probably be in a lot of pain to. Not to mention confused.", said the nurse. "If this doesnt get his temperature to drop then we should take him to G.D..", continued the nurse. Allison ran the bath in the bathroom next to them. She winced at how cold it was and the thought of Fargo being immersed in it. But it was their only choice. Nathan came up behind her laying down a towel and putting one on the counter for when they took him out. He put a warm hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry. I won't let anything happen to him. And neither will you.", he said calmly. Allison nodded and smiled. They both went back in the bedroom after the cold water finished filling the tub. "Ready?", said the nurse. They both nodded. "Maybe it will be easier if I just carry him there.", said Nathan. "That's a good idea.", she said as she gathered a few things to bring to the bathroom. Nathan picked him up feeling the immense heat radiating off Fargos body. He walked carefully to the bathroom as Allison and the nurse followed. Nathan placed Fargo (who was in a white t-shirt and blue boxer shorts) into the freezing water making sure his head remained above the water level of course. Allison and Nathan stayed back a little as the nurse monitored Fargos temperature over the next couple minutes. "It's coming down thank goodness. Let's leave him in there for two more minutes and then take him out. It will probably be awhile till his fever breaks but at least we've got it under control now.", said the nurse as they all relaxed a little. After a couple minutes the nurse decided it was time to take him out. Nathan carefully lifted him out and put him on the towel on the floor. He wrapped the fresh towel around Fargo and carried him to the bedroom. Fargo shivered and Nathan felt bad that he couldn't warm him up. He set him down on the bed as Allison came over and dried him off a little more. Over the next hour, the nurse replaced the i.v., small tubes, bandages, wraps, etc., as his fever slowly fell and the infection began to heal. It was calm for a while up until right before his fever broke. His face conveyed suffering as he quietly moaned feverishly in pain. They were relieved when his fever broke and they were able to cover him up with warm blankets. The infection was healing well as the antibiotics did their job. Allison and Nathan both had things to be doing at Global but they didn't care right now. Some things were more important and they didn't give it a second thought. Half an hour passed when Fargo began to stir. He cracked open his weary eyes and took a deep breath through his nose, then sighed through his nostrils. "Hi Fargo. How are you feeling?", asked Allison who felt overwhelmed with worry and empathy. "It was so strange. It felt like the whole world was on fire. Yet, I was cold at the same time and couldn't stop shivering.", said an exhausted Fargo. Allison pushed back a tear. "Well your fever was quite high. It's dropped considerably though, so close your eyes and get some more rest. He did as she said and was happy to go back to sleep. All three of them stayed the rest of the day to watch over Fargo. He slept peacefully and showed good improvement which was more than relieving for Allison and Nathan. Weeks went by as he healed slowly. It took months before he could walk again. It wasn't to long after that he was able to return to work which he was incredibly excited to do. There were places on his body that still caused him pain and it was sometimes hard to stand up straight.
