Chapter 30 The final Gift

It's been a week since Sean and Korra came back from Ember island and since Korra got pregnant.

Of course they hadn't told anyone just yet since they wanted to find the right moment to tell them.

"Your gonna have to tell them eventually." Sean said to Korra as they rode the ferry to the island.

"I will...Eventually. I'm mostly worried about Raiko hiring thugs to come after us since his reputation has gone down so bad. Only reason he's still in office is because he's the first president ever." Korra said grinning happy that he was in a bad position.

"Ok thats true but I doubt he would find anyone sane enough to come after you in your condition. Let alone when I'm around since I would find out who sent them and then kill him." Sean said making her grin before kissing him.

"And that is another reason you'll be a good father for protecting them." Korra said before they came to the island and got off the boat.

When they arrived at the house they saw Pema with a depressed look which was rare for her.

"Pema?" Korra asked concerned as they approached her before she faced them.

"Oh...Hey you two...I didn't think you would be here today." Pema said trying to be cheerful.

"We decided to stop by. Whats wrong? The kids aren't fighting again are they?" Sean asked making her shake her head.

"Uh no. They are just fine. It's um...Korra, you two might want to talk to Tenzin." Pema said.

"Pema, Whats going on you're scaring me." Korra said concerned.

"It's...Just go talk to him." Pema said as they went inside.

Walking inside they saw Tenzin, Kya and Bumi in the same state.

"The hell is going on?" Sean asked confused.

"Um...Korra, you might want to sit down." Tenzin said making her and her husband do that.

"Tenzin, your really scaring me. Whats going on?" Korra asked very concerned.

"Last night your father and his men found some left over traps your uncle set into place in the city before he was killed." Kya said.

"My father isn't..." Korra tried to ask in panic.

"No! No, Korra he is perfectly fine." Tenzin said assuring her making her sigh in relief. "It's...Our mother thats the problem." Tenzin said making her eyes widen.

"What happened?" Sean asked holding Korra.

"One of the traps went off exposing some rare form of poison in the air. She made sure no one got infected...But she was." Tenzin said shocking Korra.

"Is...She?" Korra tried to say.

"No...Not yet. The doctors there say due to her age she can't fight it off so well." Kya said as tears ran down her eyes.

"How long..." Sean tried to asked.

"They're not sure. But we're heading there in a few minutes. We were going to tell you but your already here." Bumi said.

Later

Oogi flew the siblings and married couple to the South Pole.

Pema and the kids stayed behind as did the others.

Sean held Korra close seeing the very concerned look she had on her face.

"Korra, try to stay calm. She might pull through this. She has survived two wars after all." Sean said comforting her.

"I don't think so this time. I know your just trying to cheer me up and I appreciate that...But I think we both know whats gonna happen." Korra said.

"You'd be surprised how much people can surprise us. Have faith. It's all we have." Sean said making her nod.

Soon enough the Sky Bison landed outside the compound before Tenzin rushed in followed by his siblings.

"Korra." Senna said hugging her daughter who hugged back before doing the same to her father.

"How is she?" Sean asked jumping down making them look down as Tonraq held his wife.

"It...Doesn't look good." Senna said sadly.

"It isn't contagious is it?" Sean asked concerned for Korra's well being and their child.

"No the doctors said there was no risk of that. But with her being at her age...It doesn't look so good." Tonraq said.

Korra quickly rushed in while Sean followed.

Sean knew how much Katara meant to Korra since she like him made sure she could enjoy her young life as a child.

Flashback 13 years ago

Korra laughed as she went penguin sledding with Sean while Katara watched laughing.

"LOOK OUT!" Sean yelled as they crashed. "Crap." Sean said as their heads poked out while Korra laughed.

"HAHAHAHA! This reminds me of when I first met Aang so many years ago." Katara laughed.

"I'll bet. My dad told me a lot of things about him before I came here. Told me he goofed off a lot during the end of the war." Sean said making her laugh.

"Yes...He brought a lot of joy to everyone." Katara said thinking of her husband.

"I'll be an even better Avatar!" Korra said proudly making them laugh before Sean picked her up.

"Well, until you master the elements Little Avatar your nowhere near his skill when he was 7 years older than you are now." Sean said making her pout while they laughed.

End Flashback

Arriving at the hut Sean saw Korra in a chair with a depressed look on her face.

Tenzin and his siblings were in Katara's room preparing final goodbyes.

Katara was like family to her. She had known her as long as she has Sean since the day she was discovered as the next Avatar. She couldn't bare to lose her so soon. Especially when she had a baby on the way. She wanted her to know her child before her death.

Sean sighed as he sat down next to her before placing his arm around her as she placed her head on his chest.

"It's gonna be ok honey." Sean said as she held him.

An hour later

Sean and Korra heard the tent to Katara's room flap open as Tenzin and his siblings walked out as they stood up.

"How is she?" Korra asked as Tenzin looked down unable to speak as Bumi put an arm around him to comfort him.

"It...It doesn't look good." Kya said trying not to crack.

"Hey wait a minute. Kruger you got god like powers maybe you can..." Bumi tried to say.

"I know how to heal battle wounds not this. I would need to be a full fledged god for that which I'm only half. And the other gods from Greek, Norse and Egypt are still recovering from the war against Vaatu since it required a great deal of power to fight and seal him away. I don't think they could help either. Sometimes...You must accept the possible outcome of those you love." Sean said regretfully.

"But..." Bumi tried to say.

"No Bumi...He's right." Tenzin said knowing they may have to accept whatever happens. "She's waiting for you Korra." Tenzin said as they left.

Korra stood in front of the door her heart ready to break.

Sean placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder.

"It's ok. I'll be back at the small house if you need me." Sean said knowing this was more for her before she went in.

Katara laid there in her bed looking so frail and week. It broke Korra's heart seeing her like this.

"Korra, It's so good to see you." Katara said though weaker than Korra had ever heard.

"Katara." Korra said walking to her and sat next to her.

"Now how are you? I hope your enjoying your marriage again now that things have finally settled down." Katara said making her smile. She remembered before Unalaq showed up again how Sean had made her feel even more special than ever before in her life. And when things got back to normal he did everything she wanted when it came to having a baby and enjoying their life.

"Yeah...You know when I was so young I never thought I was gonna end up marrying him. I always thought he was just gonna be someone important in my life...Funny how things turn out the way you least expect them when you get older." Korra said making her smile.

"I felt the same way for Aang after the hundred year war ended. We never realize how important certain people are to us until later. Life is full of mystery and so is love." Katara said making her smile. "Now I must ask are your parents expecting any grandchildren?" Katara teased making her blush. Sure she was expecting but every time she was teased about it this happened.

"Katara!" Korra said embarrassed making her laugh which turned into a cough before she calmed down.

"Sorry dear. But people are gonna be asking you real soon like they did to me. Having children is the greatest gift you can ever have in a marriage." Katara said making her smile.

"Well...Now that you asked...I am pregnant." Korra said making her smile. "Originally I was gonna wait until I was 20...But after what happened because of Unalaq. I decided to have a baby incase something does happen. In Sean's line of work...If you can actually call it work." Korra said rolling her eyes making Katara laugh lightly. "Death is to be expected. So...This way...I'll at least have something to remember him by. Although I think this will also help him stay alive even more. A bigger reason to live." Korra said making her smile.

"Let me have a look." Katara said.

"I don't think your..." Korra tried to say.

"I know when I can and can't do something. Now come here." Katara instructed making her sigh before she got closer before Katara took some water from a vase and placed it on her abdomen.

Katara smiled when she found what she was looking for.

"Their very strong." Katara said making her smile.

"Yeah I fig...Wait...They?" Korra asked making sure she heard right making her chuckle.

"Three...Two boys...And a Girl. Trust me I've done this long enough to know an early outcome." Katara said.

Korra had a look of disbelief before she smiled holding her stomach as tears came to her eyes.

"Tripplets." Korra said happy for this making Katara smile.

"Tell him when your ready." Katara said as her doctors came in before Korra hugged her.

"Aang misses you." Korra said making her smile.

"I know. He'll see me soon enough." Katara said before Korra left with tears running down her cheeks. Both in joy and sadness.

Later

Korra entered her small house she had in the south seeing Sean resting on the bed before he sat up.

"You ok?" Sean asked making her sigh before sitting next to her husband.

"Yeah...She's dying." Korra said.

"Korra...She might make it through." Sean said trying to reassure her.

"No...I know it...Mom and Dad know it...Tenzin and his siblings know it...And so do you. Your just trying to keep my spirits up. I appreciate that I really do." Korra said kissing him as he held her. "But we both know she's gonna die." Korra said sadly making him sigh.

"Look I know this might not really help but...My mother before Deimos was taken told me something when my great Grandfather passed away when I was 5." Sean said.

"What she say?" Korra asked.

"When One Life ends. A new one begins and starts his or her own journey. And this." Sean said holding her stomach. "Is our new life." Sean said making her smile before kissing him.

"That actually did help a little." Korra said before she got out of her clothes before she was only in her panties before he got out of his clothes before getting in bed as she laid on top of him.

"How you gonna hold up when it does happen?" Sean asked.

"I'll be sad...But she'll be with Aang again and everyone else from those days. And thats good enough for me." Korra said kissing him as he held her. "I love you." Korra said laying on his chest.

"I love you too." Sean said feeling a few tears hit his chest.

Late during the night Katara of the Southern Water Tribe past away peacefully in her sleep. Reunited with those she missed dearly.

1 week later

Sean was in a room looking to set up a crib. 2 days ago he and Korra came back from the Souther Water Tribe after Katara's funeral and now he was looking to set up the baby room.

"What are you doing in here?" Korra asked.

"I gotta set up the room for the baby of course." Sean said making her smile.

"Uh yeah...About that." Korra said gaining his attention.

"Something wrong? Or do you want it in our room?" Sean asked making her smile.

"Tempting but no. Theres something I didn't get the chance to tell you. Before she passed. Katara told me something." Korra said walking to her husband.

"Told you what? Whats wrong?" Sean asked.

"Nothing. It's just we're gonna need more than one crib." Korra said.

"Why would we need more than one?" Sean asked making her grin before holding his face.

"Because apparently We're having more then just one baby. We're having three in one go." Korra said surprising him.

"Wait...Are you serious?" Sean asked smiling.

"Katara examined me and told me. Two boys and one Girl." Korra said before yelping As Sean lifted her up and kissed her.

"That is without a doubt the greatest final gift she gave you." Sean said making her giggle before kissing him.

"I know. I'll miss her but she gave me something to look forward to in 9 months." Korra said holding her pregnant stomach where her sons and daughter were growing. It was the greatest gift she could ever have.

Authors Note: I know this is sad seeing Katara die but I think we can all agree she's in a better place with her husband and brother and her other friends who have passed away. Oh and uh one more thing When I get this done I know I said I would do another Legend of Korra story but I might go back to Jedi or Sith or Rider of the League and finish something I have planned for the first or finally finish the Rider of the League since I'm so close to finishing that. Only time can tell.
