Chapter 36 Old wounds
Korra moaned as she woke up from her bed before finding an arm wrapped around her making her smile as she turned over and faced her husband who was still asleep before snuggling into his chest.
"Morning." Sean said making her smile as she kissed him.
"Morning." Korra said before placing their hands on her stomach before feeling a kick making her giggle. "One of them is gonna be a little pro bender when they get older." Korra said making him chuckle before holding her close.
Soon they got dressed and headed to the dining hall.
"Hey, Has anyone seeing Chief Beifong?" Mako asked.
"Give her some space. Some grudges are difficult to let go. I definitely will never let go of what Ares tricked me into doing 300 years ago." Sean said.
"Thats...Kinda different though." Korra said.
"True." Sean said.
"So Korra tell me have you ever Metelbended before?" Suyin asked.
"Um...No...I was mostly focused on my airbending training with Tenzin. Then came the spirit bending and then well...This." Korra said holding her stomach.
"Well that shouldn't be a problem. Metal bending could help you out in the long run. I can teach you." Suyin said.
"In my condition?" Korra asked.
"I still did it when I had my kids. Besides whats the harm?" Suyin asked.
"Well?" Korra asked Sean.
"It might be useful so I think you should at least try. As long as it doesn't strain you." Sean said.
"Ok I'm in." Korra said excited to learn something new.
"You should try it too." Opal said to Bolin making him choke on his food.
"Uh, Nah, I'm more of an Earth guy." Bolin said.
"Translation. He's afraid to try." Mimir said making some laugh.
"Dude give it a shot." Sean said before everything metal started to pull away...Including Sean's Armor and swords. "OH SHIT!" Sean yelled getting pulled into some kind of metal person.
"What the?" Mimir asked.
The helmet came off revealing Varrick.
"It worked! Zhu-Li, Mark it down." Varrick said excited.
"Varrick." Sean said incredibly annoyed.
"Oh dear." Mimir said alarmed.
"Oops." Varrick said before turning it off. And Sean started beating him to a pulp making everyone laugh.
"I AM GOING TO KILL YOU!" Sean roared.
"Ok honey lets go." Korra said pulling him away as he seethed in rage.
"That was not funny." Sean said pulling a knife out of his arm.
"Calm down." Korra said using Water bending to heal him. "If it was anyone else you would laugh." Korra said snickering making him roll his eyes.
"Whatever. How that madman is alive with all the crap he does is beyond me." Sean said.
Meanwhile
Zaheer and the others were in the abandoned parts of Republic City in a house.
"Seems like you made quite a stir on Air Temple island. The Cops are swarming the city looking for us." P'li said.
"You still wanna try to take out the president? We already took out the Chiefs of the northern water tribe." Ghazan said.
"No and that was different. He'll have to wait. We leave now." Zaheer said as they were about to leave when a fire appeared before them.
"That is not me." P'li said before the image of Ares appeared.
"The God of War." Zaheer said.
"It a pleasure to meet you Zaheer. Your group is rather famous for nearly bringing down my former disciple." Ares said.
"Your the one who trained Kruger?" Ming-Hua said pissed off.
"I was the first. Until he broke off all ties with me." Ares said.
"Because you tricked him into murdering his entire family in that temple." Zaheer said shocking the others.
"So you know." Ares said calmly.
"Reznov told me his early history. The inhumane acts you made him do. While those willingly I can assume you made him do the one thing he would never do no matter how much power it granted him." Zaheer said.
"I was trying to make him a great warrior so nothing would hold him back." Ares said.
"Clearly that didn't work." P'li said.
"Oh no it did just not the way I had hoped. But this isn't about what happened in the past. I am here to help you." Ares said.
"Why would we accept your help when your former slave put us away for 15 years and took off my arms!" Ming-Hua yelled.
"Think back. You had the numbers and the skill to capture Korra from the White Lotus so many years ago. Your plan was perfect...Except one thing you did not anticipate." Ares said.
"Kruger." Ghazan said.
"Exactly. And you didn't actually come close to beating him. He held back by 90% of his true power. He always holds back greatly when fighting mortals and he underestimated you all. This time he won't hold back since he and the Avatar are expecting triplets. You will not even get close to her. And Athena will send him visions of your arrival just like last time ruining the element of surprise." Ares said.
"What are you trying to say?" Zaheer asked.
"Let me help you. I know how to defeat him and you can get the Avatar for whatever your goals are." Ares said making Zaheer frown.
"We will...Consider it." Zaheer said as Ares vanished.
"Why didn't you take up on his offer?" P'li said.
"Because I don't a trust a god who tricked his student into murdering his entire family for his own gains. He's up to something." Zaheer said.
"But if he can help I say we take it." Ming-Hua said.
"If we have no choice. If Kruger's powers are as great as Ares says...We will consider his offer." Zaheer said before they left.
Meanwhile
Sean, Korra and Suyin arrived outside seeing several meteorites on display.
"These meteorites are perfect for beginning metelbenders." Suyin said taking a small piece before demonstrating her abilities.
"Impressive. So what happened with your mother? Clearly she wasn't happy about what happened between you and your sister." Sean said.
"We hashed things out pretty good when she first came to visit all those years ago. I think she mostly left because she wanted to be alone." Suyin said. "What was your mother like?" Suyin asked making him frown.
"It's...Complicated. She blocked his memories of his brother Deimos since Ares kidnaped him and he would go out every night looking for him. One day she had enough and had the Oracle block his memories." Korra said.
"I understood what she was doing but it had negative results. I became violent and angry towards everyone in the family except my sister." Sean said.
"No parent is perfect. If there ever was life would be rather boring." Suyin said making them chuckle.
Thats when Korra started concentrating on the metal.
"Try to focus on the fine pieces of Earth within the metal." Suyin said as Sean placed his hands on her shoulders before slowly but surely she started metal bending making her grin.
"And my wife is now the first metal bending Avatar." Sean said making her grin before kissing him.
Later
Korra was back in her room as she used water bending on her stomach and smiled.
"You keep doing that every single day." Sean said making her giggle.
"Like I said my mom did this to me when I was inside her. It only make sense that I do the same for them. It definitely makes me calm." Korra said as he sat down next to her.
"How are you holding up?" Sean asked making her sigh before placing the water back in the face.
"I'm terrified. I was hoping that nothing bad would happen to us as we waited. But it's never that easy for us." Korra said holding her stomach.
"I know. I never dreamed those four would ever get loose. Wish I had just finished them off but I knew your uncle was involved in it and I needed them to tell me." Sean said.
"How exactly did you know he was involved?" Korra asked.
"They knew exactly where you were. The only ones besides your parents and the White Lotus who knew was him. We all agreed to keep your identity a secret until you were in your teen years. He showed up a week prior to train you but I said no. I knew right from the beginning there was something off about him. And I was right." Sean said making her nod before holding him.
"Whatever happens I know you'll keep us safe." Korra said.
"Yeah." Sean said holding her.
"Can I ask exactly what happened out there? I could feel the ground shake that day." Korra said
"Whats to tell? I fought them and won. Got injured pretty bad since I didn't realize they were so skilled." Sean said.
"Thats what I mean. You never said what they could do." Korra said.
"Oh. Well...As I said Zaheer was a none bender at the time. He was skilled with a blade though."
"And now he's an Airbender." Korra said.
"Yes. Ming-Hua was a powerful water bender. I took her arms off and she made new ones made of water." Sean said surprising her.
"Wait she could still bend without arms?" Korra asked surprised.
"Yeah I was surprised by that and got slashed in the back. Then theres Ghazan who surprisingly while an Earth Bender is also a Lava Bender." Sean said.
"How can he bend Lave?" Korra asked.
"He could superheat rocks into Lava and he was good at it. Did some serious damage to me. And finally P'li." Sean said.
"Let me guess. She's a Fire bender." Korra asked seeing the Pattern.
"That and combustion Bender. She can create explosions with her mind. She did the most damage to me." Sean said.
"Now I see why your so concerned." Korra said seeing the true threat.
"I'm not letting them take this away from me." Sean said holding her close. "I will not lose what I have now." Sean said making her nod as she just enjoyed the peace and quiet.
Meanwhile
Bolin whistled as he grabbed some metal meteorite before trying to metal bend it.
Of course he was clearly having issues if his annoyed look was any indication.
"Hey, Bolin." Opal said startling him.
"Opal! Oh. Wow. You really know how to sneak up on someone." Bolin said with the metal behind him.
"What are you doing?" Opal asked.
"Oh, nothing, you know, just...Thinking about my body and mustaches that I might have in the future." Bolin said trying to put it back but dropped it.
"Your acting weird again." Opal said.
"Sorry. I wasn't really thinking about all my mustaches. I'm just frustrated. I've been trying to metal bend, and I can't figure it out. Don't tell anyone, okay?" Bolin asked.
"Why not?" Opal asked.
"Because it's embarrassing. This isn't the first time I've tried. I mean, I've been wanting to metalbend ever since I heard about Toph. Your grandmother is my biggest hero." Bolin said.
"My mom grew up learning from Toph. Just go train with her. Stop being so scared." Opal said.
"You know what? Maybe I am scared, but what about you? I know you want to go to the Northern Air Temple to train with Tenzin, but you haven't done it because your afraid too." Bolin said.
"You know what? You're right. I don't want to leave my family and disappoint my mom." Opal said.
Later
Suyin was giving Korra some more lessons but made sure she didn't over do it.
"You're doing real good Korra. In a few years you could be as good as me and Lin." Suyin praised making her grin.
"Well, I wouldn't go there." Korra said before the ground started shaking as Sean dashed to his wife but saw it was Lin who looked like hell.
"Lin? The hell is wrong with you?" Sean asked making sure he was placed in front of his wife who looked concerned.
"Su, it's time we talk." Lin said looking angry.
"After 30 years, you're finally ready to talk?" Suyin asked.
"When we were in Mom's office that day, you could have taken responsibility for what you did, but instead you stayed quiet and let mom throw her whole career away." Lin said.
"Mom didn't throw her career away. She retired the next year. She was a hero." Suyin said.
"You think she wanted to retire? She was so guilt-ridden about what she did to protect you, she didn't feel worthy of her badge." Lin said.
"Look, I admit that I was not a perfect kid and I've made some mistakes in the past, but.." Suyin tried to say but Lin just scoffed.
"You made some mistakes?" Lin questioned.
"Lin, Mom and I already talked about this years ago and worked things out. If you had gotten together with us like we'd asked, you would know that I'm a different person now. I've been a different person for a long time." Suyin said.
"You think just because you live in a big, fancy house and have a chef who cooks you fancy food that you're a different person? Maybe you can fool everyone else, but you can't fool me." Lin said and Suyin looked hurt by that remark.
"Ok thats enough." Sean said. "I don't whats gotten into you but..." Sean tried to say before she earth bent him into the wall making Korra widen her eyes before rushing to her husband who shook it off. "Ok...I was not expecting that." Sean said shrugging it off like nothing happened.
"This is gonna get ugly isn't it?" Korra asked.
"Yup." Sean said picking her up before jumping away to a safe distance.
"You know what Lin? You're the one who hasn't changed. You're still a bitter loner who only cares about herself. No wonder Tenzin ended things with you years ago." Suyin said.
"Uh oh." Sean said before the two of them started fighting.
"Uh...Aren't you gonna stop them?" Korra asked concerned.
"Honestly no. I think siblings bond better when they fight and make up later. Granted me and my sister never once fought for obvious reasons but the theory makes sense I guess." Sean said as Lin was thrown into a wall.
"You got it out of your system?" Suyin asked.
"Not quite yet!" Lin said as they were about to continue when Opal used her airbending to blow them back.
"What are you two doing? You're sisters! Why would you want to hurt each other?" Opal asked before Lin started to collapse had Sean not dashed to her.
"Lin?" Sean said concerned.
Next day
"See what did I tell ya?" Sean said seeing Lin and Suyin getting along making Korra smile.
"I guess sibling fights have more positive outcomes than negative. At least outside my family." Korra saiid remembering how her uncle had beaten her father and took pride in it.
"Lets not bring in the devil in this good moment." Sean said making her giggle.
"Good point." Korra said holding him close.
Meanwhile
Zaheer and his group were outside of Republic City as they searched for the Avatar.
"We should've grabbed one of those cops. Maybe they know something about where Kruger and his wife are hiding." Ming-Hua said.
"Don't be stupid. Kruger wouldn't trust just anyone with their location. Only certain people would know." Ghazan said.
"It doesn't matter. We'll find them. It's only a matter of time." P'li said before Zaheer's eyes opened up from meditation.
"She's with the Metal clan...And so is he." Zaheer said.
"Finally." Ming-Hua said excited to have some payback.
Authors Note: Next chapter is the one we've all been waiting for. Sean fights Zaheer and his group once more. But this time we see his true power to protect Korra and they're unborn children. I was gonna do the airbending episode but decided against it. I know this wasn't as exciting as the last Chapter but this one never really felt exciting to me you know?
