Chapter 1: Once Upon a Time in Gotham City

Scene fades in to an incredibly large city. Skyscrapers trying to reach the sky with streets full of traffic. This is Gotham City, New Jersey.

Now it's always once upon a time, in Gotham City
It's a big old, bad old, tough old town, it's true
But beginnings are contagious there
They're always setting stages there
They're always turning pages there for you

Ain't it great the way it all begins in Gotham City
Right away, you're making time, and making friends
No one cares where you were yesterday
If they pick you out, you're on your way
To a once upon a time that never ends

Down in a certain part of the city, there was an adoption going on. Someone was giving away animals for adoption. There were all kinds of animals in a large box, a few puppies, kittens, rabbits, and a two-tailed fox. One boy walks up and picks up one of the puppies. A little girl walks up to the box and picks up a kitten. She giggles and hugs the kitten. The animals were jumping with excitement, hoping someone would pick them. We focus on the two tailed fox. This is Tails and he's going to play an important role!

So Tails, don't be shy
Get out there and go and try
Believin' that you're the guy
They're dying to see
'Cause a dream's no crime
Not once upon a time
Once upon a time in Gotham City

One by one, the animals were picked until it was just the fox and a kitten. The kitten is taken away by someone as the fox watches them leave. He is hoping that someone would come and adopt him. But no one did as a sunny day turns into a rainy night.

If it's always once upon a time in Gotham City
Why does nightfall leave you feeling so alone
How could any one stay starry-eyed
When it's raining cats and dogs outside
And the rain has said "now you're on your own"

The fox tries his best to get someone's attention to take him, maybe even adopt him, as being the last one, the sign above the box said, "ADOPTION FOR FREE". But the rain has made the box so wet, it fell apart and was being carried away in the rainwater with the fox to a sewer. Luckily, the fox was able to escape and finds himself wandering down the streets of Gotham City. After trying to find some shelter, he walks down an alley where he comes across two vicious dogs, looking for food!

So Tails don't be scared
Though yesterday no one cared
They're getting your place prepared
Where you want to be
Keep your dream alive
Dreaming is still how the strong survive
Once upon a time in Gotham City

The fox runs away from the dogs towards a fence. Using his two tails, his flies over the fence and manages to get away from the dogs, who hit the fence and bark at him angrily. The fox slows down and takes shelter underneath a parked eighteen wheeler. After a few lightning blasts, the fox calms down and starts feeling a bit tired.

Keep your dream alive
Dreaming is still how the strong survive
Once upon a time in Gotham City

Keep your dream alive
Dreaming is still how the strong survive
Once upon a time in New York City

After getting into a comfortable position, the fox closes his eyes and begins to fall asleep.

And it's always once upon a time, in New York City
