Chapter 44 What matters most
Korra looked to the statue of her husband with a frown
Was she angry that her husband lied to her about where he went? Yes.
But she understood his reasons. His whole life since that day at the temple he had always solved problems by himself and got the results he needed. He always fought alone since that day so no one would ever get caught in the middle.
But now things were different. Without his warrior spirit his was an easy target for anyone even weak fighters. And he was an even easier target for Ares. While Zeus had nearly beat him within an inch of his life for what happened 3 years ago and give him a final warning she knew he couldn't resist an opportunity to finally kill him when he couldn't fight.
"Korra?" Tenzin said approaching her making her sigh.
"I can't stay. I need to find him." Korra said.
"Listen I understand what your going through but..." Tenzin tried to say.
"No you don't understand. I knew there was something wrong when he said he was coming here and I let him go anyway. I have to find him. He's an easy target without his warrior spirit." Korra said.
"Believe me I do understand. And we will find him. But right now you need to stay here. A lot of people feel safer with you here right now because Kuvira's military is growing greatly. Her tactics are...Similar to his when he was a Spartan Captain minus the killing part." Tenzin said.
"Tenzin I can't lose him again. Things were perfect for the last 2 and a half years. I knew I shouldn't have let him go." Korra said.
"We can never think about the past Korra. Something clearly drove him to reclaim what he had lost. Jinora, Ikki and Meelo will find him I promise." Tenzin said making her sigh.
"Ok." Korra said.
"Where is Daddy?" Katara asked peeking around the corner making her mother smile before walking to her and crouched down.
"Your father...He needed to get back something he lost shortly after you and your brothers were born. He'll be back." Korra said.
"I don't care I hate him." Katara said shocking her mother.
"Sweetheart you don't actually mean that." Korra said.
"I hate him and I hope he never comes back." Katara said before running off making her sigh.
"I didn't realize she took his departure the hardest." Tenzin said.
"They were almost joined at the hip. She never left his side unless to play with her brothers. This is why I want him back. I understand completely why he left and lied about where he was going. But I can't lose him again a second time." Korra said.
"I promise we will find him." Tenzin said.
Meanwhile
Sean sighed as he rubbed his face.
"So let me get this straight. You lost your warrior spirit. How did that happen?" Toph asked.
"I thought you knew everything." Sean said.
"I heard mostly rumors and stories. The most common was you almost died but didn't." Toph said.
"Well that part isn't wrong. I did almost die...They just make it sound less complicated than it is." Sean said.
"So you almost died big whoop. I almost died a few timed during the hundred year war. You don't see me crying about it." Toph said about to drink some tea had Sean not swatted it out of her hand.
"I DIDN'T ALMOST DIE! I DID DIE!" Sean roared shocking her.
"Wait what? If you actually did Die how you are you alive?" Toph asked making him sigh before placing his hand on a wall.
"My best friend a dragon named Spyro...He had many unique and powerful abilities. One of those abilities was to bring someone back from the dead if it was for a short time. But it comes at a price. A life for a life. He gave up his life to bring me back so I could live for my family." Sean said.
"And you repay him by leaving them." Toph said making him glare.
"Don't act like you fucking care. You weren't even at Katara's funeral like Zuko was." Sean said before yelling in pain as she earth bended him down on the ground.
"Now listen here punkass. I may not have been there but I cared. I'm just not good with those kind of things and Katara would agree. Hell the only reason I went to Aang's funeral was for her sake. And even though I don't see my kids as much as I used to I still can keep a close eye on them here. I'm more connected than I was in my prime." Toph said making him sigh.
"Sorry. I just...Feel so fucking lost. My whole life all I've ever done is fight." Sean said.
"For yourself not for others though in the past." Toph said surprising him. "Don't look so surprised. I know your legends and the dumb shit you did in your younger years. Drunk with power. Until that day in the temple that was turning point but you still fought only for yourself but just not for the same reasons anymore." Toph said.
"You surprise me for a blind old lady." Sean said before yelling again as she earth bended him making him groan in annoyance. "And I thought my brother was annoying." Sean said.
"HA! I actually would have liked to hear his jokes about you. Probably funny as hell." Toph said.
"They are not." Sean said annoyed. "Most of the time anyway." Sean said.
"Hmph. Anyway I'll tell you this. If I was in your shoes and lost something like some dumb warrior spirit...I would appriciate what I do have and stay with it." Toph said.
"You think I didn't want to? I was happy for over 2 years raising my kids with my wife. For a time I didn't even care that wasn't the once proud warrior I had been for 300 years nearly almost 400." Sean said.
"So what changed?" Toph asked.
"I had a nightmare two days before I left about them dying and I did nothing because I couldn't fight anymore." Sean said before getting earthbended again. "WILL YOU STOP THAT!" Sean yelled before seeing her grin.
"Well lets see if I can't help get it back." Toph said.
"Oh boy." Sean said before running off.
"RUN ALL YOU LIKE MUSCLE HEAD!" Toph said chasing him.
"FUCK!" Sean yelled.
Meanwhile
Korra laughed seeing her boys playing in the water before Junior water bended Atreus away. Like they're mother they were pure water benders.
"They seem to be having fun." Turok said sitting next to her.
"HAHAHA! Even away from the South their still in their element." Korra laughed.
"So...You wanna talk about it? My brother?" Turok asked making her sigh.
"I understand why he left I just wished he trusted me to tell me where he was going." Korra said.
"He does. But he's done everything alone most of his life even when he had me, Reznov and Julia. He takes everyones burdens as his own and solves them on his own. At least before he met you and the others." Turok said.
"What was he like before we met?" Korra asked making him chuckle.
"Before or after finding me?" Turok asked making her smile.
"Both." Korra said.
"Well...Before he found me Hera said he was pretty distant from people he didn't know. Didn't want them getting caught in the middle of anything to do with him. Felt it was best not knowing many people for their safety. When we met he always helped me overcome what happened to my village. Always had my back. No matter how much I annoyed him." Turok said making her giggle. "Hell I haven't performed since Spyro gave up his life. Just didn't feel it anymore." Turok said.
"Really?" Korra asked.
"I guess certain situations make you grow out of certain habits. Jinora tried to convince me to do a few shows since she enjoyed them but...Well I just didn't feel it anymore." Turok said.
"Hmm. You think he's gonna be ok?" Korra asked concerned for her husband.
"He's survived Death before and a lot of near calls in the past. He'll be fine. Besides maybe someone is watching after him." Turok said.
Meanwhile
"AHHH!" Sean sighed annoyed as he rested against a tree. "That woman is nuts. No wonder she was Chief of Police for a while." Sean said before he heard some strange noises coming from further in the swamp making him frown before moving further in.
When he did however he widened his eyes seeing Amon when he took Korra's bending away and how he was helpless to stop him.
"I told you I would destroy you." Amon said.
Growling Sean then turned around seeing Vaatu being sealed away as Korra held his dying body before coughing up blood.
"I'm so sorry. It's all my fault." Korra sobbed
Turning around he saw Deimos walk out of the room before facing a crying Korra.
"Korra?" Deimos said getting her attention before he placed his hand where his heart was." Take mine." Deimos said shocking her.
Growing concerned he turned around seeing him fight his inner demon before stabbing himself to kill it to save his new family before the Demon exploded.
"AHHHH!" Sean yelled as he fell to his knees breathing heavily.
"Let me guess?" Toph said behind him. "Saw some of your worst memories?" Toph asked.
"The hell is this place?" Sean asked getting his breathing under control.
"This swamp has a way of showing us things we need to see or things we need to let go of. In your case your worst experiences." Toph said as they sat down.
"Mostly my enemies and my brother giving up his heart for me. I moved past these things those." Sean said holding his head.
"Clearly you haven't. Like I said this swamp shows us things. I already know about the bastards you faced. But did you ever consider you might have learned something from them?" Toph asked making him scoff.
"From those fuckers? One hurt my wife and took her bending. I almost took my own life if she hadn't stopped me and I had to show her my past. I was amazed she didn't hate me for killing my entire family." Sean said.
"You didn't kill them Ares did. You were just nothing but a pawn to him. Let me tell you something about the people you faced. What did Amon want? Equality for all by taking everyone's bending away. Unalaq? He wanted to bring back the spirits but your wife was the one who did that by not closing the portals since Vaatu was imprisoned. And Zaheer and the Red Lotus believed in Freedom." Toph said.
"Yeah and the first two nearly killed me while the last one I had to kill myself to kill my Demon. Where you going with this?" Sean asked.
"The problem was, those guys were totally out of balance, and they took their ideologies too far." Toph said.
"True. But I got over these fights since...They later led to some great things." Sean said.
"Exactly." Toph said making him look at her. "After Amon was killed you revealed your past to Korra and she still loved you regardless of all the terrible things you did and Aang gave her bending back before you two confessed how you two felt. After Unalaq and Vaatu were defeated you two later decided to have a family of your own. And Zaheer? You decided to spend all your time with your family not caring of your warrior spirit." Toph said making him nod.
"Yeah." Sean said with a small smile.
"You need to accept what happened in the past and let go. Come with me. Theres something I want you to do." Toph said.
Toph had led him to a giant tree that likes of which he had never seen.
"Damn." Sean said impressed. (It's Ironic Toph is in the same place where Aang would later learn he was gonna meet Toph)
"The Roots of the Banyangrove tree spread out for miles in every direction, connecting this whole swamp." Toph said.
"Wait...Now I know why this whole place looked so damn familiar. This is where Aang found out he was gonna meet you at a later date." Sean said remembering the stories Athena told him.
"Oh yeah thats right." Toph said.
"SEAN!"
Sean widened his eyes before turning to see Jinora, Ikki and Meelo who he hadn't seen in three yeas.
"Guys?" Sean asked in surprise before they ran to him and hugged him making him laugh holding them. "Oh my god look at you three." Sean said amazed. "How the hell did you even find me?" Sean asked.
"Together." They said before Toph coughed to get their attention.
"Oh right. This is Meelo, Jinora, And Ikki. Basically Aang and Katara's grandkids." Sean said.
"Your grandpa was a real pain in my butt." Toph said.
"Wait...Cranky, Old, Blind...You must be Toph." Meelo said making her chuckle.
"I like this one." Toph said.
"You would." Sean said.
"What happened to your right eye?" Jinora asked seeing the scar.
"Oh...I tried everything to regain what I lost...Nothing worked." Sean said
"Korra doesn't care. She wants you home she misses you. Junior, Atreus and Katara miss you too." Jinora said making him sigh looking down.
"You need to decide now. Is your warrior spirit more important or your family." Toph said.
"Them...Without question." Sean said.
"Then get the hell out of my swamp." Toph said making his eyes twitch.
"Anything to get the hell away from you. I'd rather participate in one of Turok's comedy routines." Sean said as they got on the Bison. "By the way I'll tell Lin and Suyin you said hello in your own way!" Sean yelled before she launched a piece of earth at his face. "OW! YOU DUMB BITCH!" Sean yelled making her laugh.
"The Avatar picked well." Toph said.
Later
Korra smiled as she watched her kids play.
"Junior don't be so rough." Korra said.
"Yes, mommy." Junior said before she spotted Jinora's sky bison making her smile before running to it.
When she saw them getting off she saw Sean jump off.
"Sean?" Korra asked before he sighed and faced her making her eyes widen seeing the scar before she slowly walked to him. "Oh honey." Korra said trailing her hand on it.
"Nothing worked...I failed." Sean said before she held his face.
"I don't care." Korra said before holding him close. "I missed you so much." Korra said making him let out a breath as he held her.
"I'm sorry. I thought I could do this alone." Sean said before she held his face.
"I forgive you. I always will." Korra said before kissing him. "I love you." Korra said.
"I love you too." Sean said before he heard the kids playing making him smile before walking to them as Junior used water bending to freeze Atreus and Katara.
"I win." Junior said.
"I don't think thats exactly fair boy." Sean said making them face him before the two were unfrozen.
"DADDY!" Junior and Atreus yelled as they rushed to him making him laugh as he held his sons while Katara stayed where she was.
"My god look at you boys. Your growing so big." Sean said before looking at his daughter and let them go and walked to her. "Katara." Sean said before she stepped away from him making him frown. "Sweetheart?" Sean asked before she ran away making Junior and Atreus run after her making him sigh before facing his wife who looked down.
Minutes later
"She's just...upset. She doesn't understand why you left." Korra said.
"I don't blame her. I failed her as a father." Sean said in regret before she held him.
"Don't say that. You didn't fail her. She just needs some time alone. You two were almost inseparable back then. She'll forgive you soon enough. I promise." Korra said before kissing him as he kissed back before holding her face before pulling back before grinning at him. "By the way...Since it's been six months since I last saw you..." Korra trailed off making him laugh.
"I honestly thought you would think less of Sex after they were born." Sean said making her giggle.
"Hey I could always hold out for at least a few weeks before I needed some private attention mister. And you so owe me for these last six months." Korra said poking him in the chest making him roll his eyes before they got up.
"Pema can you keep an eye on the kids while we're gone?" Korra asked making her giggle.
"Of course." Pema said as they left.
Arriving back at their old home Sean smiled placing his hand on the couch.
"I missed this place." Sean said before she held him.
"So did I. I wished we could have raised the kids here but after so much happened and because of Raiko. I knew going back to the south was the right call." Korra said making him nod before holding her hair. "What?" Korra asked making him smirk.
"I think you looked better with longer hair." Sean said making her laugh before she kissed him.
"Well I can grow it back after that CHARMING Prince Wu is on the throne and we can finally move back in since Raiko's term will finally end after Wu takes over the Earth Kingdom" Korra said. She had met the prince and the little bastard tried to flirt with her despite telling him she was happily married and what did he say?
"I won't tell if you don't." Wu's words echoed in her head.
Her response? She earth bended him into a wall and threatened to cut off what made him a man. That scared the hell out of him and never came near her again.
"Less talking." Sean said kissing her making her moan as she removed his clothing before he did the same to hers.
Once both removed of their clothes Korra laughed as Sean kissed her neck.
"I missed you so much." Korra said making him smile.
"So did I. Not a day went by where you didn't enter my mind or the kids." Sean said making her smile before kissing him lovingly before he lined himself up before thrusting into her making her moan as she held his face before grinning at him before flipping him on his back.
"Why don't you just enjoy the view." Korra said making him smile as she bounced on top of him and moaned before feeling his hands on her hips making her smile. "Again this is your favorite part of me." Korra said.
"Oh stop with that bullshit." Sean said making her laugh.
Korra started to bounce faster on her husband moaning softly before leaning down to kiss him as he held her face.
That was when she yelped when he changed positions to her hands and knees making her giggle before he thrusted into her making her moan loudly as he reached forward to grab her breasts making her whine softly.
"I really missed this." Sean said pulling her up and kissed her neck making her smile softly before kissing him.
"So did I." Korra said.
After 15 minutes of this Korra gasped feeling her climax approaching as she gripped the sheets before moaning loudly as she came before feeling him come inside her making her whimper before she collapsed making him chuckle before picking her up and pulled the sheets over them.
Korra looked at her husband with loving eyes as she held his face.
"I love you." Korra said making him smile before kissing her.
"I love you too Korra. And I'm never leaving you again. I promise." Sean said making her smile as she buried her face into his chest.
"Good...Cause if you do I'm gonna kick your ass big time." Korra said making him chuckle before they dozed off for little before they would head back to pick up the kids.
