Chapter 6: Perfect Isn't Easy

Alfred opens a door and hits a switch on the wall. "Rise and shine Miss Lily, your public awaits."

Curtains roll up to the ceiling and reveals a bed behind them. Something moves underneath the covers and a yawn is heard. Waking up is a young lady when shoulder-length gold hair. She stretches and gets up out of bed.

This is Lily. She was a rising star on a popular Japanese show, Lilymu. She left to pursue other career options and found herself in Gotham. She was taken in by Bruce and she has gotten into the modeling business for beauty pageants. She walks down to her mirror and turns on the mirror lights. She gasps at the sight of her morning face.

Girl, we've got work to do
Pass me the paint and glue

Perfect isn't easy but it's me
When one knows the world is watching
One does what one must

Some minor adjustments darling
Not for my vanity but for humanity
Each little step a pose

Sometimes, it's too much for even me

Lily started opera singing, attracting every boy around the neighborhood to see her. They did everything they can to give her attention and throwing flowers at her.

Though many covet my bone and bowl
They're barkin' up the wrong tree
You pretty pups all over the city

I have your hearts and you have my pity
Pretty is nice, but still, it's just pretty
Perfect, my dear, is me

Lily finishes singing as she reaches the bottom of the stairs. We cut to the kitchen, where Tails gets a drop of cookie batter on his nose. He rubs the batter off his nose.

Holly is cooking a treat for Tails. "Wait 'til you taste this. It's a secret recipe I just invented. Well, actually my mom helped me.

Dishes are then clattering, as the microwave dings, catching Alfred's attention, who was walking by the kitchen. "What on earth..." He notices the mess Holly has made and Holly setting a handful of bowls on the counter. "My goodness! Miss Holly! Don't you think a tin of kitty chow would have sufficed? Or whatever it is foxes eat?"

"Nonsense. He'll love this, Mister Alfred," Holly mixes the treat. She then takes a special bowl that had Lily's name on it.

"Now, young lady, I really think we should've waited until your parents..." Alfred steps on an egg, cracking it and gritting his teeth. "Eeew!" Alfred pulls out a napkin to clean the yolk off his shoe. He hears the phone ringing. "Oh, dear!" Alfred leaves to answer the phone.

Holly then speaks in a French accent, "And for ze fox, the house specialty, Oeufs a la Holly avec Cocoa Krispies," she ties a napkin around Tails' neck. She tastes the treat going, "Mmm."

Alfred calls out to Holly, offscreen, "Miss Holly, it's your parents!"

"Yeah! Wait 'til I tell 'em!" Holly gets up to leave the kitchen.

Alfred speaks to Holly's father, Bruce Wayne, on the phone. "Oh, yes, Master Bruce. I do assure you everything is absolutely hunky..." Lily walks down past Alfred and he notices her walking up. Alfred covers up the phone to tell Lily, "Miss Lily, I wouldn't go in there if I were you." Alfred goes back to Bruce. "Uh, everything's fine here."

Holly runs out of the kitchen to speak to her parents. "They're gonna be so excited." Lily walks past Holly and into the kitchen.

"Here she is now," Alfred said

Lily gasps at the sight of what she is seeing. A fox eating in the kitchen! And he was eating out of her bowl! "A fox!? What is the meaning of this? Alfred! Alfred!" Lily seethes and says through her teeth, "I guess I'll have to handle this myself." She brings her head to meet Tails. "Hello," she said in a sweet tone.

"Hello," Tails said, wiping his mouth with a napkin.

"I, um, hope you won't think me rude, but do you happen to know... out of whose bowl you're eating?" Lily asked, still in a sweet tone.

"Yours?"

Lily gasps, "Why, aren't you a clever little fox? And do you have any idea whose home this is?"

"I... thought it was Holly's."

"Well, it may be Holly's house, but everything from the doorknobs down IS MINE!" Lily screamed.

"Oh, Lily. I see you've met Tails. Isn't he cute? I've got great news. Mom and Dad just said I could keep him," Holly hugs Tails. "I'm sure you two are gonna be the best of friends."

Tails is unsure about them being best friends as he looks at Lily, who was chuckling wickedly and giving an evil smile. As she chuckled, a pair of devil horns rises up from her head and a devil's tail wags behind her.

We then shift to the exterior of a Pawn shop, where Sonic and Beast Boy catch up with Blaze, Po, and Charles. Po was pacing back and forth, Blaze was leaning against the building, and Charles was watching a show on a television on the windowsill of the Pawn Shop. "Now for $200..." said the man on TV.

Blaze sees Sonic and Beast Boy run up to them. "Where's the kid?"

"We tailed him all the way up the outskirts of the city," Sonic panted. "We never had a chance."

"Dudes, you should see this place. There's gotta be, maybe... two hundred people living there!" Beast Boy said with a hint of exaggeration in his voice.

"You guys, we can't let the kid take the heat for us," Blaze said, fearing Tails could suffer a fate worse than death.

"Yeah, man. If we don't get him, they're gonna torture that kid. I can see it happening right now!" Beast Boy gasped.

"What in Heaven's name are we waiting for?" Charles asked

"Wait, what about Spencer?" Po asked, thinking Spencer should be involved in this situation.

Pan to window of the Pawn shop, where Spencer is showing off an old pocket watch to the store owner. It falls apart, causing Fagin to grin with embarrassment. The store owner was not amused at what he saw.

"Alas, our beleaguered benefactor bearing the brunt of our futile endeavors," Charles said, once again using his Posh Boston accent.

Beast Boy rolls his eyes. "Gimme a break dude! Speak English so we can understand, Charlie!"

Charles, getting tired of hearing Beast Boy say his name "incorrectly" muttered with escalating anger, "Garfield, for the last time, its Charles, Charles," he then snaps at Beast Boy, "Charles!"

Sonic steps in between the two. "Cool it guys!" Beast Boy blows a raspberry in front of Sonic. Sonic glares at Beast Boy, who minds his own business. "Now we got work to do. First, we'll spring the kid. Then, we'll take care of the butler. All right?"

"Yeah! That's right, man! He's family! He's blood!" Beast Boy shakes his fist.

"Hear, hear!" Charles chanted, which is unusual for Charles to say something like that.

The group huddle around with Sonic explaining the plan. "Okay, guys. Our mission begins at daybreak. Po, go up to the door. Charles, you're our..." Sonic's voice fades as we leave the group with Charles giving Sonic a weird look and we shift to the living room of Holly's house.

Holly gets ready to practice her piano techniques, as she places a set of music notes on the music stand. Tails jumps next to her on the piano. Holly giggles and hugs Tails. Alfred's voice is heard offscreen, "Oh, Miss Holly, I don't hear any practicing."

"Okay Mr. Alfred," Holly said and turns to Tails. "I have to practice now." Holly begins practicing on the piano, playing a lovely tune. Tails watches her play and presses down on a key. Holly hears a discord note and sees Tails hitting a key. "Oh, you want to practice too?" Holly continued playing and started to singing.

Lily walks by the room and sees Holly and Tails, playing the piano together. She glares at them with jealousy and stomps away.

As the song plays, Holly decides to take Tails around Gotham Park. The two are having a wonderful time together. First, Holly and Tails take a small boat across the lake in the center of the park. Then the two bang sticks on the bars on the fence. An old couple see the two playing and are touched by Holly and Tails bowing to them properly.

Holly and Tails then get ice cream from an ice cream man and share a cone together. Their trip around the park ends with the two riding in a horseback carriage. The two then go to a store where Tails gets his own plate with his name on it and a necklace with a locket. The locket had an inscription on it that said, "TAILS AND HOLLY, FRIENDS 4EVER". Tails loved it so much that he hugged Holly.

Nighttime has now fallen in Gotham and Holly and Tails are getting ready for bed. The two of them get into bed and get into the covers. Tails then felt something he hadn't felt before. For the first time, he found a place he can call, "home".

"Good night Tails," Holly said before drifting off to sleep.

"Good night Holly," Tails said.

Alfred smiles at the sight, turns off the light, and closes the door.
