Dreaming With You
Summary: Post-musical. Elphaba and Fiyero celebrate their second anniversary as husband and wife. They both have a small yet special and meaningful gift for each other.
Rating: High-ish T.
Inspiration: I usually imagine a dance or a scene in my head when I listen to my playlist. "Dreaming of You" by Selena started to play and this chapter ran through my head.
It was quiet and peaceful. The sun had just set. The lights were off, the only lighting in their home was a few candles. Both of them had today and the rest of the weekend free from work. Today had been absolutely perfect, and it was nowhere near over.
Elphaba and Fiyero were sitting on the couch together in front of the fireplace, Fiyero's arm around her shoulders while the other ran up and down her thigh, Elphaba's hands stroking his face and pulling him closer as they kissed.
Fiyero ran a finger across her stomach, making her giggle softly against the kiss. He chuckled and his grip on her tightened.
His kisses trailed to her cheek and Elphaba let out a sigh of contentment.
"Tell me," he whispered and she let her eyes close.
"Hm."
"Are you happy?"
"Extremely," she smiled, "I wouldn't trade my life for anything."
He smirked at her. "Not even being the Wizard's Grand Vizier?"
She made a gagging sound and he laughed. "But in all seriousness, no. I have everything I could ever want," he pecked her lips, "how about you my prince? Are you happy?" she gestured to the living room with her arms. "Is this better than being king in a grand castle?"
"It pales in comparison," he whispered, "Oz, you've made me happy. I'm the luckiest man alive."
He kissed her cheek and held her hand. He took a glass of wine that was sitting on the small table in front of them and handed it to her before grabbing his own.
"To two years," Elphaba smiled.
"And a lifetime." he added and they clinked their glasses.
After taking a sip, he pulled her in for another sweet kiss, tasting the grape wine from her mouth, and she hummed against his lips.
She rubbed her nose against his. "I love you, so much."
"I love you too," he kissed the corner of her mouth, "Oz, you've got me completely under your spell, I'm a fool for you. You've changed me."
Elphaba chuckled softly, adjusting the long sleeves of her dress at her wrist. "That's for sure, the scandalcious prince, actually doing good in school and being abstinent for three years," up until our wedding night, Elphaba thought with a smirk.
Fiyero blushed and laughed. "You're never gonna let me live that down, are you?"
Her smile widened and she shrugged as she caressed his cheek. "It just amazes me, that's all," her eyes were soft.
Fiyero set his glass of wine down and peppered kisses on her jaw, earning a soft sigh from her. "After you came into my life, I couldn't continue that…lifestyle. You made me want to try harder and to have kept doing…that, it felt as if I would have been unfaithful to you. I was so desperately in love with you before I knew it myself. I didn't, don't, want anyone but you," he pulled the sleeve of her dress slightly and his lips trailed to her shoulder.
"Mm," she moaned, tightening her grip on the cup of wine in her hands.
How he loved her. His world had collapsed when she hadn't come back to Shiz from her trip to the Emerald City, everyday without her had been hell. And when he'd seen her in the throne room two years later, it had taken all the strength he had within himself to not run to her and kiss her fiercely and declare his love for her.
But that was the past. Now he was blessed to go to sleep and wake beside her. Oz, was he happy.
"I have something for you," Fiyero whispered against her shoulder.
"Oh?" Elphaba set her cup of wine down and crossed her legs on the couch. "Are you gonna have me guess?"
He chuckled softly. "No, not this time," he set his glass down then pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket.
His hands shook slightly, he was nervous to read what he'd written for her. He opened his mouth but no words came.
She placed a hand to his knee and he placed his own on top. Leaning forward, he placed a lingering kiss on her lips, then began to recite her the words on the paper.
"When I'm with you I feel my heart soar.
You've fed the love my soul hungered for.
You have shown that it's real, a love that's true.
What would become of me if I didn't have you?"
His voice cracked slightly at the last line and their grip on each other tightened.
"If you're not with me, my breath leaves completely, my heart is empty.
In your arms, only by your side do I feel all is steady.
There's nothing to change, nothing to say,
If you're not with me, I'm truly deserted, my heart in distress is.
Darling how I love you; when I'm not by your side, I lose all my senses.
There's nothing to change, nothing to say,
I love you, my night and day," Fiyero exhaled, setting the paper down on his lap.
Elphaba didn't say anything. He still didn't raise his gaze to her.
"I know I'm not good at writing this kind of stuff, but I wanted to try and do something special to tell you how mu-"
She cupped his cheek and kissed him passionately. "I love it. Oz, Fiyero that was beautiful," she wiped a couple tears away from her eyes and kissed his lips again, "when did you write that?"
He kissed the last of her tears away. "When you were cooking breakfast, a of couple months ago."
She looked at him curiously. He elaborated.
"I'd woken up and you weren't in bed. I panicked slightly because you weren't in the bathroom either. When I came downstairs…Oz, you won't know the relief I felt," he exhaled.
Elphaba held his hands in hers and kissed his cheek. Even though some time had passed and the town they lived in wasn't anywhere close to the borders of the land of Oz, they still had to take precautions in order to stay safe.
It was rare that they woke up and the other wasn't in bed, she remembered having a small panic attack once or twice when she'd woken up and Fiyero wasn't beside her.
"Your hair was a mess, you were wearing my clothes. You didn't hear me behind you, I just stood there and watched you, everything in this came to my head," he gestured to the paper, "Elphaba, do you have any idea how much I love you?"
"Yes," she nodded and climbed onto his lap, burying her hands in his soft, blonde hair, "you tell me and show me everyday. How could I ever doubt that? Fiyero, I love you with all my heart and more than anything. You know that right?"
"Absolutely," he whispered. He placed a kiss on her shoulder, neck, cheek, then a firm one to her lips.
"My turn," Elphaba murmured against his lips and stood up, extending her hand to him.
Fiyero took her hand and stood up as well. She took his other hand and placed both of them on her waist. She placed hers on his chest and and leaned closer so that their foreheads were pressed together. After a couple moments of silence, leaving Fiyero wondering what exactly she had planned, Elphaba began to sing softly.
"Late at night when all the world is sleeping,
I stay up and think of you,"
She rocked them side to side.
"And I wish on a star
That somewhere you are thinking of me too.
Wonder if you ever see me, and I
Wonder if you know I'm there."
Elphaba wrapped her arms around his neck and he pulled her closer, closing his eyes and listening to her beautiful, soft voice and words.
"So I wait for the day, and the courage to say
How much I love you."
She pecked his lips.
"Yes I do
I'll be dreaming of you tonight,
'Til tomorrow, I'll be holding you tight.
And there's nowhere in the world I'd rather be
Than here in my room dreaming about you and me."
She hugged Fiyero tightly and rested her head on his shoulder for a couple seconds, feeling him dropping kisses on her hair. She looked at him again.
"Late at night when all the world is sleeping,
I stay up and think of you.
And I still can't believe
That you came up to me and said 'I love you'.
I love you too.
Now I'm dreaming with you tonight,
'Til tomorrow, and for all of our lives.
And there's nowhere in the world I'd rather be
Than here in my room dreaming with you endlessly.
With you tonight.
And there's nowhere in the world I'd rather be
Than here in my room,
I'll be dreaming of you tonight
And I'll be holding you tight.
Dreaming with you tonight."
Elphaba pressed her cheek against Fiyero's and took a deep breath before talking. "I wrote the first verse at Shiz, when having you was something I could only dream of,"
Fiyero moved his head to kiss her and she smiled as they kissed. They broke apart and he trailed his hands up and down her sides.
"The second verse I wrote after we'd made love for the first time," their wedding night. They both smiled, that night would forever be cemented in their memories and hearts. "You were asleep, I was wide awake, and all I could think of was how I had never in my wildest dreams thought you could be mine. Yet there you were; lying next to me, your arms around me; mine," she whispered.
"I always have been, I always will be," he kissed her forehead.
Elphaba gasped softly when he began to undo the buttons on the front of her dress, cool air hitting her body. He pulled the ribbon tied at her waist as he kissed her cheek then pulled her dress apart, leaving it to hang on her like an open robe, exposing that emerald figure he knew so well.
She shivered.
"Cold?"
She didn't answer him, instead she undid the buttons of Fiyero's shirt then pressed herself up against him. He moaned and wrapped his arms around her.
"Not anymore," she whispered, kissing his neck.
It was amazing how much she loved him. Fiyero was her entire world and if she lost him, there was truly nothing left.
"Bed or couch?" his voice was husky as he whispered in her ear.
She laughed and removed his shirt completely and pulled him down for a kiss. "You choose," her lips caressed his jaw while her hands ran all over his chest, "I'm busy at the moment."
He groaned and pulled her dress off, letting it pool at her feet and moved her to lay down on the couch. He climbed on top of her and kissed her tenderly, exploring her curves with his hands even though he already knew every single inch of her.
He removed the rest of his clothes and tortured her when he pulled her last article of clothing off as slow as he could. He made up for it by planting wet kisses on her stomach.
Fiyero went back to her lips and Elphaba wrapped her legs around his waist. She tugged his hair softly, loving the way he groaned into her mouth. He pulled away and kissed her forehead.
"Happy anniversary, my love."
"Happy anniversary, Yero."
With a final deep, passionate kiss, he took her.
"No, I don't!" Fiyero smacked Elphaba's thigh.
She cackled. "Oh, yes you do," she brought a hand to her mouth, "I think it's sexy though."
Fiyero smiled and shook his head. This woman.
Elphaba was sitting on the edge of the couch, a blanket pulled up to her chest and her legs on Fiyero's lap. He ran his hands across her legs underneath the blanket.
"Is there anything you want to do tomorrow?" he asked her.
Elphaba thought about it for a couple seconds. "I can't think of anything other than just being with you."
He kissed her hand, her wedding ring cool against his lips. "Well, in addition to that," he wrapped an arm around her.
"Um…we could go to the fair for a little bit; walk around, eat junk; we could watch the play at night," she sprung off ideas.
"Then come back and make love until morning," Fiyero leaned towards her.
"Sounds like a plan," Elphaba smiled and closed the gap between them.
Ah, I love them. Btw, Fiyero's poem is the translation (with tweaks here and there) of a song by Chayanne, a Puerto Rican singer, it's called "Me Enamore De Ti" (I fell in love with you). Elphaba's song (I rearranged the lyrics a little), if you missed it, is "Dreaming of You" by the late tejano singer Selena. Both super talented artists!
